The Discardians, monsters you can't draw?! [31/31 cards]

So, this was another odd little idea I had awhile ago. Basically, the Discardians are monsters who just get sent right to the graveyard the moment you draw them (Doesn't matter if it's your draw phase or from another card's effect!), but have effects that activate when they're discarded, while they're in the graveyard, or in some cases just when they're summoned if you can get them into your hand via other effects (Or just having them in your hand at the start). I'm not quite sure where to go with their effects beyond that, most likely something focused on summoning Rank-3 Xyzs? At the moment there's no spells or traps in the set, though I may add some later on down the road. Feedback on the current balance of the set and suggestions for what to do with their gimmick/make them better always appreciated!

[Spoiler=The Dark Discardians]

NOTE: The Dark Discardians are sort of a side-archetype of the Discardians. Unlike the others, which are Light Warriors/Spellcasters with a focus on Rank 3 Xyzs, these are Dark Fiends with a focus on Synchros (Though they can also set up more Xyzs as well.) Hopefully they aren't too unbalanced, since they were more of an experiment in other play styles the Discardians could use. So if there are any major problems with them, whether they're too powerful or too useless, please let me know so I can make appropriate revisions :)

DISC-026 Dark Discardian Reaper

DISC-027 Dark Discardian Spirit

1 "Discardian" Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
This card can only be Synchro Summoned. Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Dark Discardian" monster from your Graveyard, then search your deck or Graveyard for 1 "Discardian" Spell or Trap and add it to your hand. If you do, this card's level becomes 3.

When this card is sent to the Graveyard by its own effect, you can place 1 "Dark Discardian" monster except "Dark Discardian Vampire" from your graveyard face-up on top of your deck. DISC-029 Dark Discardian Executioner

This card can only be Synchro Summoned. Once per turn, you can pay 1000 Life Points to activate one of the following effects:
- Send 1 Rank 3 or lower Xyz monster from your Extra Deck to your Graveyard. Draw 1 card.

DISC-031 Dark Discardian Princess

3 level 4 DARK Monsters
This card can also be Xyz Summoned using a "Discardian" Xyz Monster as its material (Xyz materials attached to that Monster become this card's Xyz materials as well). Once per turn: You can detach 2 Xyz materials from this card to send 1 "Discardian" Monster from your deck to the Graveyard, and treat it as if it were sent to the Graveyard by its own effect. When a "Dark Discardian" Monster is sent to the Graveyard during your Draw Phase, you can negate its effects and attach it to this card as an Xyz material instead.

Wow, such an interesting idea. I actually think it would be fun in practice as well. Though on problem with the deck is the absence of any spell or trap support, as I imagine you could make some interesting ones. Especially concerning a full graveyard.

Individual cards:

Knight would probably be stronger if the deck was not fifty fifty of warriors and spellcasters but I understand why.

Librarian's ability to set up combos actually seems pretty vital to the deck. The ability to chose which one you'll discard next turn is pretty powerful, or to bypass that and add to the hand. Probably the main card to run.

Breaker seems just a little to powerful. As long as you already have a discardian in the grave he's a pretty quick summon for an 1800 monster with pierce. Though, I could be wrong.

Clockwork seems helpful for bouncing back cards of whoms timing for drawing was wrong.

Swordswoman seems a little hard to pull off. Both because of the discard when drawn and that she requires you to discard.

Trickster is the same.

Samurai seems like he needs another clause. Like 'if this card was special summoned by its effect banish it when it leaves the field.' Just because it's an infinitely recyclable monster.

Elf is simple but I like it.

Summoner is pretty useful for setting up and XYZ summon.

Princess feels like she needs a cost to attach them, either that or require more to banish. Especially seeing as it can banish turn one.

Wow, think that's the quickest one of my sets has gotten a review! Thanks for the swift reply :)

Breaker was meant to make up for the lack of real offensive power in the set, since there aren't many that would be much of a threat once they're actually on the field. Would lowering his ATK balance out with his effect, possibly? Swordswoman and Trickster are mostly meant to play off the Discardians that summon or add to your hand, like Librarian and Summoner. Though maybe giving them some extra effects when they're discarded will help make them more useful? Really good point about Samurai, I must've overlooked that. I'll add some sort of clause to it to prevent it just coming back every turn soon then! As for Princess, my intention was her cost was that she negates the effect of your Discardians you draw to attach them, giving up a potentially useful effect for a material. Would it balance her more if I increased her to a 3-mat instead, either for the effect cost or how many you need to summon her?

Spells and Traps are most likely on the way as well (Once I find some art for them :P), so they won't lack support forever.

The only problem is the inclusion of pierce. I feel that if he were even lowered to 1700 he'd be better balanced. Yes some hitting effect even if it doesn't do too much like gaining 500 life points would work great. Also I didn't notice she prevented them from going off on their own so that's my fault, she's actually pretty well balanced. Especially seeing as she has no natural defenses or anything else to defend her. Also the quick reply was because I was refreshing the multiple cards section to see if someone else critiqued my cards.

This set's quickly getting much bigger than I intended... But, 4 new cards today! A new Xyz to add some extra draw power, as well as the set's first Spells/Traps! Discardian Dragon and all the main deck monsters after Summoner were added yesterday but not yet commented on as well, so they could all use some feedback too :)

EDIT: Added another new card, "Discardian Substitution". I'd especially like feedback on this card right now, particularly the wording and whether it should have some sort of cost. The idea is to use the Discardians in your graveyard to bring out your Rank 3s, being both a way to easily bring out the Discardian Xyzs, as well as providing a loophole to summon Rank 3s with more specific requirements (Like if they require a specific type, attribute, or even monsters from a whole other archetype). So for example you could have a Rank 3 that requires three fairy types or something, so you can use Substitution to use 3 level 3 Discardians in your graveyard as Xyz materials for it instead. Does that make sense, and does the card's current lore convey that clearly?

Substitution is way to powerful. Especially with how quickly they discard, not to mention it enables some other rank 3 xyz monsters a huge boost in power the type that they shouldn't have. Such as an Acid Golemn that lasts even longer or a Leviathan with 3000 attack points that can still attack directly. Nobility also seems a little off? no idea how to explain it but it seems weird to me is all.

I figured as much. What sort of cost would you suggest to balance it out then? I imagine it would need to be really high if it's that big of an effect, but I'm not sure what would be a fitting drawback. Maybe halving your life points, or having to skip your draw phases to keep it on the field? Though the latter might be too high of a cost considering the theme of the archetype.

As for Nobility, the idea is that when one of the Discardian Xyzs activates their effect, rather than sending their material to the graveyard you can put it on top of your deck. So lets say you used Discardian Librarian as one of the level 3s required for Discardian Dragon. Then if you use Dragon's effect while Nobility is on the field, instead of sending Librarian to the graveyard when she's detached, she can go on top of your deck to recycle her effect. I guess the wording was a bit iffy on that too, hopefully this clears up what I was going for with that card. I also meant for it to only allow you to pick one to send to the top of your deck, in the case of the Xys that detach 2 for their effects like Princess and Gambler.

also i think i know what your trying to do with executioner. One turn send an xyz, next turn summon it, but that would not work. If an Extra Deck monster is in the grave but was never properly summoned (sent there from Extra Deck, special summoned (other than by regular means) from Extra Deck, summon was negated), then it cannot be special summoned by any eff.

Darn, didn't know that ruling existed :( Would there be any better way to achieve the intended effect or a loophole around that rule? Like possibly banishing instead of to the graveyard?

EDIT: Or actually, what about the first effect being something like "Special Summon 1 Rank 3 or lower Xyz monster from your Extra Deck. It cannot attack and its effects are negated. Send that card to your Graveyard during the End Phase of this turn"? Then it's going from the field to the graveyard rather than extra to graveyard, but also gives the added utility of possibly being able to use it for a tribute for something as well.

Advice: 1.make them all toons

2. nerf discardian swordswoman

3.base some of them off famous monsters (ex: discardian Blue eyes (eff idea : when this card is drawn (except duringyour first draw phase)send this card to the graveyard. when this card is sent to the graveyard by another "discardian" monsters effect, summon one "blue-eyes white dragon" from your deck.))

over all pritty good though, and i would love to watch them develop.

How would being Toons benefit them? I understand it fitting with their visual design, but what would being toons add to the set's play style?

Which part of Swordswoman needs to be nerfed, and why only Swordswoman and not her counterpart Trickster? It would definitely help to know what and why it's somewhat overpowered so I could fix it accordingly :)

The third part is an interesting idea, though I may pass on it since they wouldn't see much use in a full-on Discardian deck. They'd make some good support for decks focused on the monsters they're based on (Such as your suggestion of Blue Eyes), though I'd just prefer they stick to their focus on Rank-3s and supporting each other.

it is true I based the "toon" off the visuals. and about swordswoman i didn't see that it was only when summoned (if it was once per turn it would need to be nerfed). I came up with another idea. what if you had spell crds with the discardian when-this-card-is-drawn-send-it-to-the-graveyard effect? it would match nicely. also having some cards that allow you to summon level 3 monsters from your graveyard?

Gotta say, I love most of your posts, but this takes the friggin' cake. It combines relatively easy summon conditions (which I love) a unique gimmick that can't be abused to beat literally everything (SHADDOLLS!!!) and it reminds me of Lightsworns (which I run). All in all, a neat little set.

Really LOVE this idea. An extremely unique archetype with a unique gimmick. If this was a real archetype, I would play it.

Also, The card art is AWESOME. Did you make it? if so, awesome. if not, who?

The sources of the artwork are all listed underneath each card's posted text, in the small italic font. Sadly I'm not quite talented enough to draw the artwork myself, so I just find things on deviantart or similar sites to fit my needs :P
