FILE 01: TRAP

BGM: Welcome to the Earth

"At conception, there were infinite possibilities; limitless outcomes diverging from a single instance where, once, all was whole."

The year is 2220 A.D.. Humanity has abandoned its earthly shackles and taken flight to live in paradise amongst the clouds. However, those left behind  on the surface wage violent rebellion in order to bring about a new world order. In the midst of this upheaval, brave warriors take to the skies, waves of flowing destiny washing over their gleaming steeds.

Like distant thunder, the roar of numerous jet engines filled the skies as the Albatross made its descent toward the mountains below, the carrier's massive wingspan casting a wedge-shaped shadow on the bleak, lifeless landscape below. Once, there had been beautiful fields of green and white covering these peaks, but these days they lay barren and brown, like harsh, foreboding spikes. In contrast to these peaks, not a single cloud dared to show itself in the skies, and far off in the distance what appeared to be three stars hovered in the blue. These ‘stars’ were Shells, the home of what some would describe as the better half of the human race, the intense sunlight reflecting off of their gleaming metal surfaces, flickering with the exhaust of the massive ST drive-powered engines that kept the floating cities in flight and on course.

From his seat in the observation lounge, Leo Vega could gaze out for miles at the landscape below. Normally, this would make him ecstatic, the poet in him taking in the majesty and awe of seeing Mother Earth from so close from a distance. Instead, he sat slouched, his head resting on his hand, as he stared blankly out into wild blue yonder. Things were grim, to say the least, and as he looked down with disgust at the dark grey TRAP uniform he was wearing, the events of the previous two weeks came flooding back to him.

It seemed to him that everything had happened in mere minutes. The letter notifying him of Lauren's disappearance, the draft officer, the physical. Before he knew it Leo had been whisked away from his normal civilian life and thrusted into his current predicament. No choice. No freedom. Just the seat that only he could fill. He hadn't even gotten a chance to say goodbye, not that there were many people for him to say goodbye to, but it was all too sudden. What did he know about piloting a Synchro Frame? He could barely understand how to drive a car, much less operate a Frame using his mind. He shook his head suddenly, having ran through this train of thought seemingly endless times now. There was no use in running through it  all yet again. All he could really do now was wait.

---

"You're sure you got the runway aligned, right?"

Gavin Decker impatiently tapped his foot on the tarmac as he spoke through a megaphone, the hydraulics below the underground runway slowly raising it up as the blast doors above his head opened to the sunlight. As usual, the runway made its ascent without a hitch, the Albatross above aligning its flight path with the now visible landing strip. Behind him, TRAP's hangar was alive with busy technicians prepping to unload the massive plane as soon as it landed, as well as other crew members waiting to get a glimpse of TRAP's newest member and his repaired Synchro Frame.

"Wonderful. At least they won't have to make another pass around and we can close up quick." He ran his hand through his smooth brown hair, glancing around to make sure nothing else was out of place on the runway before making his way back toward the hangar proper. Around him, the techs were hard at work prepping dollys and forklifts to unload the supplies that the Albatross was sure to be carrying to stock the base. Roughly 40 yards away were TRAP's frames, all lined up neatly in their stalls. Some were being serviced, their innards showing where armor plating had been removed. Conspicuously, one stall was empty, having previously housed Lauren Vega's Canis. That machine had been sent back to the Shell where it had been manufactured for an overhaul and extensive repairs after having been shot down and recovered two weeks ago, and it too was now on board the Albatross along with its new pilot. Gavin made his way onto a raised catwalk in the hangar and spoke through his megaphone.

"Two-time it everyone, the 'Tross is landing and I don't wanna have to spend the whole day unloading these supplies! We've gotta get that whole plane unloaded as fast as possible in case we get orders to sortie. Can't have it blocking the catapult for very long, ya hear?!"

---

It was apparent now that the mountains were rapidly getting closer, and Leo watched disinterestedly as the the runway came into view below. At the sight of this, he stood up, gathering a few duffel bags, a backpack, and a guitar case from the chairs near him, and made his way out of the observation lounge, moving toward the Albatross's own onboard runway. The force of the massive aircraft touching down on the tarmac almost knocked him off his feet, but thankfully he was able to grab onto the lounge's doorway to balance himself, and he stood there until the Albatross came to a complete stop.

Outside, several ramps lowered from the aftmost point on the Albatross's lowest runway, allowing TRAP’s technicians access to its open-air hangar and the supplies within, and within minutes the plane too was abuzz with activity as the unit's lifeblood was unloaded from the massive carrier. Amidst the commotion, Leo began making his way toward the end of the carrier, looking a bit lost as he tried in vain to figure out who might be his commanding officer. Not that he'd ever ask for help, that'd be too embarrassing, and he didn't want to look like an idiot on his first day.

As things were being made ready to accept the new arrival and the return of an old friend to its companions, one of the stalls in which TRAP's frames were stored had activity going on in it which might normally have seemed suspicious.  Two young men, obviously pilots by the look of the flight suits and helmets they wore, of the same height and build were performing preparations that were normally reserved for the few minutes before a mission was commenced: ensuring the reactor was in proper working order, making certain that the triple-barreled cannon slung under its left arm was fitted with a fresh drum of ammo, filling the racks in the missile launchers with high-explosive micro-missiles, and making certain its blade was ready to go.  The busily worked about the only entirely black frame utilized by that most elite collection of pilots, the XA1 Drachenrand, while the rest of those in the hangar were too busy getting ready for the Albatross' arrival to notice them.  It helped that the consoles which normally locked the Frame in place and prevented access to its combat systems had been broken into and unlocked with the use of a code which the pilots were not supposed to know.

"Are you sure about this, Johan?"  One asked the other as he finished locking the ammo drum into place on that frame and turned his attention up to the open cockpit where his brother was busy running those pre-flight checks which did not require being connected to the AMS module, "I mean, normally I'm the one coming up with crazy ideas."

"It's too late for either of us to back out now," Johan answered as his brother, Heinreich, shot him a wry grin he did not need to see to be aware of.  So far they'd managed to avoid suspicion, but they needed to act quickly now that the runway was raised and the hangar door was open.  "Climb on up, we're ready to go."

"You mean you're ready to go," Heinreich corrected his twin, before making his way up into the cockpit and sliding into his seat.  For the most part the interior looked like any other combat frame: a set of joysticks on either side of the pilot's chair for primary functional control as well as the usual setup of glowing consoles giving the pilot tactical information about their surroundings.  However, the similarities ended there as the myriad other controls normally requiring manual input were absent and instead replaced by an assembly atop the pilot's chair that connected into the helmet and from there to the Allegorical Manipulation System which allowed for finer manipulation directly controlled by the pilot's thoughts.  The Drachenrand differed in that directly across from where Heinreich now sat, his brother sat in an identical setup.  As the second of the mostly experimental Frame's pilots settled into his seat, the cockpit closed around them.  "Now we're ready to go."  He stated, and this time made sure his brother saw that smile of his before he connected his oxygen mask to the helmet he wore.

"Right," Johan acknowledged before connecting his mask in the same manner, "we'll be going for a manual launch.  Only system I couldn't get an access code for was the launch catapult."  Johan didn't need to hear his brother scoffing at that, and he had a pretty fair idea of what he was about to suggest.  "And before you say anything, if I'd let YOU try to get them then Kommandant Schwarzchild would already know what we were planning.  You're not exactly subtle, Brother."

"Well, at least I could've gotten the codes and we would've saved some time."  That was all Heinreich could say in response to the truth Johan spoke.  Of course, he was fairly quickly no longer merely himself.  A certain unique piece of equipment, the Twin AMS Module, on the Drachenrand had just been activated and their minds were linked to each other and to the machine.  The two ceased to think separately, and were very quickly setting about the steps to power up their frame.

Inside the hangar, those working on the frames and preparing to unload the supplies and such that the Albatross was carrying into the base were given something of a rude startle.  The Drachenrand came alight, its optics and several other indicator lights across its form glowing red as it rose from its stowed position and began making its way forward.  It weaved easily in and out of the way of those at work, an easy task as they quickly cleared a path to avoid being crushed by the nearly fifteen meter tall machine, and made its way to the near end of the Runway.  Up above, the pilots could see the 'Tross touching down and so they waited until it came to a stop near the Hangar.  Those that had rushed out to access the supplies it held within were soon left startled as the Drachenrand moved again, getting up to a brisk pace as it took care to make its way around behind the transport before turning to face those likely watching it.  Its blade was drawn from where it locked to a hard-point on it's back, and brought up to its face in a salute before returned to its locked position.

"Engaging Sensor Disruption System," the two pilots spoke in unison out of habit as they engaged the suite of components which made their Frame nearly invisible to sensors, even with its thrusters active.  Just as this was finished, they turned and sprinted down the runway while their thrusters warmed up.  It did not take long for the Drachenrand to reach its maximum attainable ground velocity, and this was maintained until they reached the end of the runway where three streams of plasma from the Siedrich Thrusters on its back came to light and, with the assistance of a jump, propelled them into the air a short ways before they dipped down into the valley.  Their destination was a spot that had become infamous among the members of TRAP, the spot of the engagement where Lauren Vega had been shot down.  So long as they could remain within the mountains, the pair intended to use the natural lay of the land to prevent visual confirmation of their presence and so that is exactly what they did.  They hung tight against the mountainside as they ducked and dove about on their way, making certain to avoid the populated areas within as well as anything suspicious that showed on their sensors.

"You think they'll be upset with us?"  One part asked the other, in relation to what exactly it was that they were doing at that moment.  The other was silent for a moment before he answered, and both knew what it had considered.

"Almost certainly," the other began his answer, "but if we can find anything, anything at all, that was missed when they investigated Lauren's-"

"Lau-Lau."

"Lau-Lau's crash," the other continued, somewhat happier for being reminded of their friend's nickname, or perhaps she was more of a sister, "then I'm certain this will all be worth it."

"And will we?"  One asked the other.

"We're going to try."  The other answered.  Inside the cockpit, two fists lifted from their sticks and pounded together for a brief moment before the brothers returned to the task at hand.  There was someone they believed to be depending upon them, and they did not intend to let her down.

A new day dawned upon TRAP's underground base, though one inside it couldn't really tell if it wasn't for the clocks inside the place. The base felt somewhat tenser than usual, following the incident that occurred not too long ago, though Atelier was an exception for it. Even though she shed a tear upon the return of Lauren's SF the other day, the fact that she was classified as "Missing" instead of "Killed in Action" gave a slight glint of hope for her, at least enough to not interrupt her task for the day. Indeed, Atelier held some degree of admiration for Lauren, and was visibly distraught upon seeing her get shot down. However, as she was ordered to hold her position, all she could do is watch helplessly as Canis plummets down to the ground.

Nevertheless, that was the past, and Atelier has been given new directives for today. Namely, to welcome Albatross back to base and guide an individual named "Leo Vega", who she can only presume is related to Lauren in some manner. Dressed in her lieutenant's uniform, she silently walked through TRAP's base, observing its occupants and how they go about, just like every other day, hoping to pick up on their daily activities and integrating it into her own, in a process to be "More human", as Mira would put it. As she walked through the area where Frames are kept, she noticed two familiar figures climbing aboard Dracherand. Even though their helmets obscured their faces, Atelier could tell that the two was Johan and Heinreich. While at first suspicious as to why they would get into Dracherand without an official order for a sortie, she decided to ignore it, thinking that they are sent off on a secret mission she hasn't been briefed about. After all, it's not her job to keep track of what everyone's doing.

---

Always one to be on time, Atelier arrived on TRAP's hangar before the rest of TRAP did, although there were already several workers and technicians on standby. Atelier spent the next few minutes or so until Albatross's arrival by standing idly, not bothering to chat it up with the tech crew already there. Even though some of the crew who noticed her arrival tried to greet her, she merely nodded in acknowledgement, without as much as a single "Hello." Several minutes later, Albatross finally began landing, filling the hangar with huge gusts of wind.

The gusts of wind soon ended, and the big bird landed fully. The crew started to scramble as soon as Gavin made the orders, and suddenly the silent hangar became abuzz with activity and noise. Amidst the commotion, Atelier stood perfectly still and waited for a blonde-haired boy to appear from the plane. She didn't know for what reason Leo was sent to TRAP, and she most certainly didn't know what do after welcoming him to TRAP's base. Before she could have a chance to sort out her words, the blonde kid she was waiting for suddenly appeared on the carrier, looking a bit lost.

Instinctively, she moved closer towards Leo, who, on closer inspection, doesn't appear to be a boy at all, and instead is much taller than she is. "Welcome to TRAP, Mr... Leo Vega, I presume?"  Atelier greeted him, while looking on a small tablet on her hand that houses Leo's details, to make sure she didn't get the wrong person. "I am Atelier Holyfield. ...Should I help carry your luggage?" Because she's not used to talking with strangers, let alone talking in general, she let out a rather awkward pause between introducing herself and offering to carry his bags. Although her face doesn't show it, she knew she messed up and felt "embarrassed".

“Wait, what?

The Drachenrand has sortied out without permission?

Tch.”

For the first phone call of the day, that’s not exactly what Adelheid had in mind as a good way to start her day. Aeolia hopefully was still asleep this time, since if the news did get to her, she couldn’t even imagine how much paperwork would be needed for her to finish when that wench reported this misbehavior of the two to her superiors, with additional seasonings to screw her up even further. Though, maybe she could just order the two to finish any necessary paperwork that they would need-

Ah, that thought about paperwork reminded her that today was supposedly the day when Lauren’s little brother join her team. Adel was definitely not a fan of the decision from the higher ups to enlist that greenhorn brat as Lauren’s replacement instead of retooling the AMS system on the Frame so a professional soldier could use it.

Or heck, put it into rest to honor Lauren’s memories. Her loss was a huge blow to her and her team, even more that she would admit, but unlike others, Adelheid immediately treated her as being dead. Not going to let herself cling to that fragile, fake hope that she was still alive, and thought that even if she did, more likely than not she’s on the enemy’s side now, though she had avoided saying this possibility to the others, to not further demoralize them. And this made her realize something.

“Uh..are you there, commander?”

“Right. Been thinking, and I think I know where the two are going right now

When it’s necessary, try ordering a pilot to haul their collective asses from…"

An awkward silence.

"…yeah, you know where, or someplace nearby.

And tell Gavin that the two are his this time. Too busy to slap them myself today.”

Without waiting for an answer, Adel closed the phone call immediately. The twins were pretty close to Lauren, as far as she knew. She was like a big sister towards the two of them, and the two were understandably still in denial about her loss. But joyriding’s still joyriding, and they would be punished for it.

With that done, now back to the greenhorn brat once again. Having looked at his files, Adel couldn’t help but frown with the fact that this boy had no experience whatsoever in piloting, which would be a pain, especially on the team. Unless he had a surprisingly wonderful piloting capability talent, she believed that he wouldn’t last long. Not that she’d let that happen, if only to honor Lauren. She’d probably try her best to persuade Aeolia to propose to the higher ups so he could get transferred to another place, or even returned into civilian life, instead of dying a meaningless death here. War’s not a place for kids anyway.

Sighing, Adel picked up her phone once again, and started to dial Gavin’s number.

“Hey, second banana.

Listen up, you probably have heard this from one of the mechanics down there, but Drachen’s got used for joyriding by its pilots. Please handle them for my sake.

And also, if you see the blonde brat that was supposed to replace Lauren, direct him to my office, fast.

Can’t wait forever for his newbie ass to come over here, and I can’t afford to waste my time more and more, especially for a replacement goldfish.”

3PlD1Dt.png

Much to Adelheid’s chagrin if she knew it, Aeolia was already awake, though she hadn’t left her quarters yet, busy with a phonecall from one of her colleagues.

Knowing her, this would last 2-3 hours, shortest.

"Well, we're trying to tell you, Mr. Jiyuu...the modification idea you have to your Raiju Frame won't exactly work. It's too complicated to add rail-cannons onto the Flight Unit in its given state...the odds of it actually working out the way you were hoping is very low."

This wasn't a good morning for Akira so far, as he started at the holo-projection of the Frame specialists he had on his desk in his own room. He had his hands rubbing his temples as he exhaled gruffly. "You...are a bunch of idiots. I've checked the damn numbers, and the way I have it...it does work!" he said, glaring at the projection as he began to raise his voice. "How hard is it for you figure this out?"

"Well, when we looked into it...we saw design flaws and with the way the Raiju Frame works, it won't.."

"GAH! I don't have time to be lectured by morons like you!" he grumbled, as he cut the transmission, standing up as he tossed his blazer on, walking out the room. What do they know? They didn't question my numbers and designs when I suggested the Flight Unit. Akira thought, as he headed down the base's halls. Though he probably knew one reason why they didn't want to use the designs ideas: the big boss...Adelheid. He and her...well, have had their "constructive differences" between each other...(and that's putting it in the nice way). Nevertheless...he knew he'd get a call from someone soon...

Just then, his phone went off, as he reached into his pocket and tossed his phone in the air and answered it on the way down. "Took you long enough to get to me, Yuki."

"Yeah well, you put me through a lot of crap as of today, Akira-san." the voice on the other end sighed. Yuki - a Frame Specialist who actually was able to put up with Akira's attitude and nature. Because of this, Akira actually held the young man in high respects... "Regardless, it seems the other Specialists are being under order by the boss herself on not allowing you add the rail-cannons to the flight unit. No exact reasons yet..."

"Of course...she always has it out for me..." Akira rolled his eyes as he shook his head.

"Though to be perfectly honest, you did have it coming when you disobeyed her direct order last mission and engaged the target fully...not only that you did call her a bi-"

"Yeah, yeah...chat with you later." he quickly hung up the phone, as he cut Yuki off, heading to check on the status on his Frame: the SFS-71X Raiju.

Melissa, Private Quarters, TRAP Headquarters

If they hadn't heard it this morning, which they had, all of TRAP HQ could hear it now.  Though changing from the usual "First Call", in the wee hours of the morning, the trumpet played a more exciting, and a bit unusual song.  She didn't talk about it, but this tune derived directly from her mother's older music, and was a favorite.  Her window was wide open, and Melissa could feel the approach of the Albatross.  She greeted it with a lively, upbeat call, as an assistant knocked at her door.  Having to barge in, her assistant, Johnathan, placed a hand on her shoulder.  She heard him enter, even over the sound of the trumpet.  He was a tall, slender young boy.  Brown, matted hair, dark black eyes, and horn rimmed glasses.  He was a bit green on TRAP HQ, but he knew Melissa well.  She ended her tune, and placed her trumpet at her side, getting to her feet.  She slid the trumpet case under her bedside table, before shaking Johnathan's hand.

"The Albatross will be arriving shortly, Miss Melissa," he said smiling.  She could feel the still new, but caring concern in his voice.  She both disliked and appreciated it.  Even after this time on TRAP Base, when Melissa was finally learning her way around, Johnathan still took to her like a sibling.  Melissa rolled her arm, stretching, and dropped to her hands and knees, starting a push-up routine.  She'd often done it before Johnathan would arrive, but she wanted to "reassure" him a bit.  He was taken aback, almost bumping into the metallic door behind him.  "Alright," she said pushing into number twenty-three.  Twenty-four, twenty-five, and onward to fifty, before she finally stood back up.  "I'll be out in a moment.  In the meantime, could you brief me on the day?"  John nodded, before quickly catching himself and saying, "yes ma'am.  The tech's will be unloading the Albatross over the course of the day, in hurried fashion of course.  We've got--oh."

 Johnathan paused as he read up on a 'Leo Vega'.  He knew this was a touchy subject for Melissa, even now.  "We appear to have a relative of the late Lauren Vega coming aboard.  He's an untrained pilot from the looks of it."

Lauren was putting on her pilot's jacket, when she stopped, and turned back towards the window.  Another Vega, huh?  She smiled silently, out of view of Johnathan's eyes.  It would be difficult, taking on this assignment.  She had someone new to protect now.  She had failed to protect Lauren, but she wouldn't fail again.  She could still feel the heartache of--no.  She wouldn't tread on the path of remembrance.  To a brighter future, she had to look.  She finally slipped her arms completely into the jacket, she turned back to Johnathan.  "Well, that won't be too difficult I hope," she said jokingly.   Johnathan stepped to the side as Melissa approached the automatic sliding door and took a step out, turning to her left.  Making her way to the tarmac, Johnathan followed closely behind.  Melissa stopped for a moment, raising a finger, and turning around.  She gently plucked Johnathan on the nose.  "I thought I told you to call me Melissa?  None of this 'Miss' stuff, 'kay?"  He blushed, laughing a little.  "O-of course Melissa.  My apologies."  They resumed their walk to the tarmac, greeting other crew members as they went.

"Good evening Melissa!"

"Hey there!" she would call back.

"How are ya, M?"

"Doing well!"

"Sleep well, Melissa?"

"Like a baby!"

She was one of the less blunt pilots, and most approachable by far.  Melissa was, in a way, the base mother.  She could hear the clangs, hustles, bustles, and rustles of the crew around her now.  They had entered the Frame Housing.  She passed by Saviour, sliding a gentle hand over it's polished ankle.  Tech's were busy at work, and though she would go over their work later, she knew they were reliable.  "Take care of my guy, hear?" she called to the tech's aboard Saviour.  "Will do, ma'am!"  Before they knew it, Melissa and Johnathan were standing behind Altelier, who was taking in the day's work, and greeting a newbie.  "Run off now, John.  I can take it from here," she whispered.  He nodded, and disappeared to join the crew preparing to unload the Albatross.  That's when she smelled a new scent.  Someone different was here.  Melissa approached silently, hugging Altelier from behind, as she addressed this new person.

"Welcome to TRAP, Mr... Leo Vega, I presume?"

Ah, he was here.  Melissa smiled, and took the opportunity to save Altelier from the awkward moment that proceeded.  "I'm Melissa Juniper, Human Relations.  We'll see to it that you're familiar with your surroundings before we get you into anything hectic.  But just in case, you should have ready state of mind."

OST - CHANGE!!!!

3PlD1Dt.png

TRAP - Unspecified Hall
"Shucks, where did Atel-run go?" Grumbling, a girl that couldn't be older than twenty or so was pacing around. Suddenly standing up straight, she realized what day it was. "The newbie's coming today!" Given Atelier, and how she was essentially nearly a servant of TRAP, she figured that her friend must've gone to greet him. The only place that Atelier could've been right now was the hangar, and with a dash, she took off.

TRAP - Hangar
"ATEL-RUN!" Sounds of someone shouting across the hangar while running could be heard, getting louder quickly. Just a few seconds later, the bright-blue haired girl of that voice could be seen leaping towards Atelier with her arms extended. Tackling her friend with the hug and almost swinging her off her feet, Mira grinned widely as she landed. Looking around, she noticed Melissa, and then some girly looking kid that couldn't have been older than eighteen or so. Realizing the kid must be the newbie and extending her hand, she instantly greeted him, speaking in a rapid-fire pace. "My name's Mira, I'm one of TRAP's snipers! Atel-run here's the other main one! Heard you're the little bro of Lau, but I'm not gonna lose to you! She smiled to let the newbie know she was playing around.

Looking to Atelier, she continued. "Atel-run, let's show him around together~! Don't just leave me here by myself, it's boring!

"Oh, they're off," said Feng, just walking in as the Drachenrand took off. He gave the twins a wide wave, although they had already flown too far off into the distance to catch it. The long-haired youth stood there for a moment longer, watching the Frame slowly disappear on the horizon, before finally deciding to register the presence of an unfamiliar face in the TRAP base. "Hey, newbie. Don't go joyriding like those two, I got a court-martial for it before, and that is a real hassle." Feng turned and walked over to where Atelier, Melissa and Mira had already gathered. He reached out his hand for the new guy to shake. "Li, Feng Li," he said, sizing Leo up.

The boy wasn't anything special, at least at first glance. He had soft, effeminate features and large eyes like someone much younger, which didn't at all help his overall shy demeanour. Feng even felt that if he stared too intently, the boy would cower at his glare and shy away from him. Nevertheless, this was the little brother of Lauren Vega, after all. If anything, he had the genes of an ace pilot and blessed with talent Feng could respect. He softened his expression a little and let on a light smile. "Welcome to TRAP, Leo."

The Drachenrand skirted mountains, dove into valleys, and occasionally dove into a ravine to avoid being seen by those who would have done the pilots harm or else traced their course back to TRAP's headquarters.  Unfortunately there was a problem which the pilots would have to face sooner rather than later.  The mountains were growing smaller, the valleys shallower, and a quick look up from between the stony peaks revealed that the land before them was flattening out.  Rolling foothills, once covered with trees and grass, slowly gave way to dusty plains stretching out as far as the eye could see with only the occasional dip or rise in the lay of the land to change things.  Furthermore, there was the occasional city visible even from here which the two would need to avoid.

"What are we going to do?"  One part asked, searching for anything that could give them cover.

"We'll have to stick to higher altitudes,"  The other answered, running a quick scan of the area around them.  "There's a weather system not more than twenty five kilometers ahead."  He gestured up and ahead of them towards the large formation of clouds covering the skies.

"That's only a temporary solution."  The one protested, gesturing to a part of their Frame's display showing the readout from long-ranged scanners.  "It's blowing towards us, and doesn't stretch all the way to the coast."

"Then we just take cover in it while we can and figure the rest out from there,"  the other began, gesturing to the same readout, "and there's at least a little cloud cover following it.  So we should be able to reach the coast unseen."

"I hope you're right."

As the two finished their conversation, their Frame turned towards the skies and rocketed upwards.  There was only so much cover around, and so they might have been spotted by someone on their way up but between their speed and rapidly increasing altitude they'd be little more than a tiny black speck on the sky.  Soon enough, that black speck vanished into the remnants of a thunderstorm and continued on their way.  It was several tense minutes as they passed through it, and ultimately emerged on the other side well above the clouds trailing in the storm's wake.  A sigh of relief was had as they chose to skirt just above the clouds, occasionally dodging left or right as an opening through which they might be seen formed.  Still, they did manage to reach what had once been the coast of France over the course of the ensuing hours, during which the two conversed about the one for whom they were risking their necks.  One commented on her shapely form, the other mentioned how she'd been one of a few he'd been comfortable around, and both were in agreement that they sorely missed her.  The one was even surprised to find that the other had toyed with the idea of asking her out, and the ensuing teasing was sure to last them to their destination.

 "Welcome to TRAP, Mr... Leo Vega, I presume?"

Leo looked up from the deck of the Albatross to see a slim, white-haired woman standing before him. She looked... disinterested, for lack of a better word, and the awkward, practically stunted manner she'd addressed him in didn't help either. Weirder still, she simply stood there, wearing the same blank expression on her face for the entire duration of Leo's thought process, and then as he was just about to begin responding to her, she began speaking again, interrupting him at such a time that only Leo was aware that he was being interrupted at all, to his chagrin.

"I am Atelier Holyfield. ...Should I help carry your luggage?"

"At least she's being helpful." Leo dropped one of his duffel bags rather unceremoniously as he turned to respond to Atelier, but before he could do so another woman appeared from behind her, and she too spoke to him.

 "I'm Melissa Juniper, Human Relations.  We'll see to it that you're familiar with your surroundings before we get you into anything hectic.  But just in case, you should have ready state of mind."

"Uhh, yeah... Thanks." Leo wasn't quite sure how to address either of them, nor was he very eager to converse with anyone more than he needed to. At the very least they seemed nice enough.

"ATEL-RUN!"

Before Leo could get more than his one sentence out, however, a third girl came running at the group, happily embracing Atelier as she nearly collided with her. This was enough to break Leo's disinterested stare, as he looked on with a stunned, confused expression. No sooner had she arrived than this third girl introduced herself as well, smiling as she did so.

"My name's Mira, I'm one of TRAP's snipers! Atel-run here's the other main one! Heard you're the little bro of Lau, but I'm not gonna lose to you!

The mention of his sister's name brought a bit of a pained expression to Leo's face, though he quickly hid it and decided to put up a more of a friendly facade, his face brightening a bit. He spoke with rushed sentences, slurring his words slightly due to both nervousness and his attempt to appear at ease.

"It's uhh nice to meet all of you." He ran his free hand through his hair as he spoke. "I guess this means you're all my squadmates, right?" he trailed of with a small nervous laugh, not really knowing what to say. thankfully, another voice entered the conversation. Leo turned to see a young man walking toward him as a Synchro Frame ascended above the Albatross's runway and took off into the sky above behind him.

"Hey, newbie. Don't go joyriding like those two, I got a court-martial for it before, and that is a real hassle." The young man, who introduced himself as Feng Li, gestured to the frame that had just taken off as he spoke, indicating that for some reason it had taken off without permission." "Welcome to TRAP, Leo."

Leo nodded in agreement, pausing for a second before turning to speak to all four of the pilots who had come to greet him, a bashful grin on his face. "So... would you guys mind helping me with my bags?"

---

“Hey, second banana."

Second Banana. That was a new one. Gavin let out an almost inaudible laugh. Adelheid usually didn't get very inventive with her... 'nicknames' for her second in command. Usually, this sort of teasing was an indicator of one of her rare cheerful moods, but her tone of voice told Gavin that the opposite was the case. "What's the matter, chief?"

Listen up, you probably have heard this from one of the mechanics down there, but Drachen’s got used for joyriding by its---"

The rest of her sentence was rendered inaudible by the ignition of the Drachenrand's Siedrich thrusters some twenty yards away, Gavin's face contorting into an expression that was decidedly less than amused. He watched the frame ascend and fly over the horizon before putting his walkie back to his ear. His response was dripping with facetiousness.

"You don't say. Would have never guessed the twins would pull s*** like this." He paused for a moment, shook his head, and groaned a bit before continuing. "Yeah, I'll take care of Tweedledee and Tweedledum when they get back."

"And also, if you see the blonde brat that was supposed to replace Lauren, direct him to my office, fast. Can’t wait forever for his newbie ass to come over here, and I can’t afford to waste my time more and more, especially for a replacement goldfish.”

"Replacement goldfish?" Adelheid's choice of terminology was rather odd. "Anyway, I'll be sure to grab him for you when I see him. Try and keep Aeolia from finding out about the twins though, would ya? I really don't wanna deal with more paperwork today."

With that, Gavin hung up, reluctantly making his way toward the frames on the far side of the hangar. As he did so, he noticed Akira Jiyuu, one of his immediate subordinates, admiring his frame. Typical for Akira, but at present as many hands as possible were needed to get the Albatross unloaded in time, and as such Gavin felt it necessary to get his attention.

"Akira! Get your ass over to the 'Tross and give the techs a hand unloading the gear! The hell are you standing around for?!"

---

About fifteen minutes later, Leo Vega stood outside the door of Adelheid Schwartschild's office, waiting to be called in as she was apparently busy with paperwork of some sort. He'd been in the middle of unpacking his things when one of the technicians on hand had informed him that the commanding officer wanted a word with him. Though he'd been given a rather warm welcome so far, he certainly didn't feel at home, and from what little he'd heard about his new CO from his sister, Leo was sure that this introduction was not meant to go smoothly.

“Gosh, it felt like a week or longer already.

Where the hell is that boy?”

Adel slouched on her comfy chair as she slowly got more and more irritated by the wait for the newbie pilot. While it definitely had not reached a week yet, only several tens or so minutes, but it was still pretty irritatingly boring to Adel. Too much of her time was wasted by doing nothing as she-

Oh, a knock on the door, Adel guessed that it's the boy without looking at the video feed.

Before she could say that the door was not locked, the person behind it kicked the door wide open, and much to Adel’s horror and annoyance, the inquisitor known as Aeolia was there, her face was red with anger.

“Uh…good morning?”

 3PlD1Dt.png

Before

“Yeah, yeah. It’s going pretty well, really. I’ll send it down there soon enough.

But sorry, I should end this call now.

Call me later, ok~?”

As the voice on the other side of the line went silent, replaced with a beep, Aeolia turned off her own communication device, and decided to try going for a walk and probably conduct her daily inquiry of the team.

The loss of Lauren not long ago definitely still had an impact on everyone, and this was probably the reason why the higher ups didn’t assign them towards any important missions lately, only routine patrols and other minor things. Still, Aeolia believed that they had become too lax after the unfortunate incident, and she’s pretty much concerned about their ability to carry out operations when they’re still shaken like this.

Also, despite her not saying much on the matter, Aeolia actually objected the notion to recruit Lauren’s brother to pilot her Frame, though due to her mainly selfish reason (she had shown her interest to mess around with the Frame), she didn’t bother to say her objection, knowing that it would just be overruled.

Speaking of him, she noticed that the boy had just arrived on the base. Aeolia just sighed as he saw the girls of the team greeted him. Feng, Melissa, Atelier, and Mira. Decided to not bother them just yet, she walked away unnoticed, and started to inspect other places. Noticing that there’s some sort of ruckus near the hangar, she turned around and went to inspect it.

Two minutes after she went there, she blitzed away as fast as she could, her face was red with fury.

“Ugh, that damn irresponsible CO….”

3PlD1Dt.png

“Wait, what? What do you mean by that?”

“Go fix your own damn mess.”

“That’s not my fault! They left because of their own insistence!”

“If you’re not slacking around here and actually go around overseeing your underlings, this sort of idiocy shouldn’t have happened!”

“Can’t you also do that? Instead of well….indulging in hours long phonecalls?

Hypocrite.”

“That’s not my freaking job here. I’m here just to critique you and threaten you with my reports to your superiors.”

“….”

“Basically, if this ends up becoming a even bigger mess, I’ll-“

The two’s bickering was interrupted when one of them noticed from the live camera feed that the newbie had arrived at the front of the office’s door.

“So…? What do you want me to do now?”

“Go greet him for now, I guess. I could’ve greeted him in your place, but eh, once again, that’s not in my job description.

Don’t forget that the twins are still running around out there with their stolen-”

“It’s theirs.”

“It belongs to SAF, not them. Even if it’s still customized completely for their use, it still belongs to the SAF, and that means they stole it for their own selfish purposes.

But go open the door now. The boy must’ve been tired after waiting so long for you to open the door.”

“Tch, whatever you say…”

Sighing, Adel lazily opened the automatic door with the remote on her comfy chair.

“Welcome into TRAP, greenhorn.

Here, come inside. I will keep this welcome and briefing short because of a certain problem that has happened just now.”

Merriment and reminiscence faded away with a few last teases from one to the others they neared their ultimate destination.  Perhaps unfortunately and simultaneously fortunately, the spot to which they ultimately descended from the sky was bare both of clouds and any sort of cover on the ground.  Of course there was little reason for any, save them, for where they set down was little more than a graveyard at this point.  A cloud of dust, thrown up by the thrusters on their frame, obscured vision of them for a time and also hid the field from them.

The two had come to rest somewhere in the Scottish Highlands.  Grand, rocky hills stood about them and they were in the midst of a shallow valley set between two of the more imposing pieces of land around them.  Windswept and void of vegetation they were, bare rock left exposed in places while fine black dirt lay upon the ground where it had once been held down by grass.  All about where they now stood were the broken husks of combat frames, strewn around like soldiers fallen on the field of battle.  More than a few of them bore the distinctive mark of the Drachenrand's blade, and many others bore burns from plasma or the distinctive puncture marks of Gauss and Rail weapons.   Most of the frames were partially buried in the fine dirt, for the strong winds in that region must have blown it about while nature sought to give those laying there a proper grave.

The black frame remained mostly silent as it strode through the wreckage, showing little care for the Terra Firma frames upon which they trod or those decaying pilots within.  Most of their superstructures were still sound enough for them to support the Drach, albeit with a great deal of deformation of the armor plating.  Eventually, the pilots found themselves standing at a familiar spot.  The Canis' crash site, thoroughly dug up by the retrieval team to recover all that could be found, looked very much like a crater now that all was said and done.  Inside the cockpit, the pilots nodded silently to each other and set about the laborious process of scanning the ground with both optics and sensor arrays to see if they could find even the slightest hint that might show where Lau-Lau had gone.

Akira was admiring his Frame at the moment, as he was trying to figure out where those rail-cannons...though to others...he was apparently standing around.

"Akira! Get your ass over to the 'Tross and give the techs a hand unloading the gear! The hell are you standing around for?!"

And there it went... Akira heard the nagging voice of Gavin as he sighed, before turning around on his heel and saluted Gavin...with his middle fingers. "Yes sir!" he said in the most chipper tone he could muster, before he walked off, knowing good and well he probably upset Gavin as well. Oh well, another person tossed in the fire of hating him...

He made his way to the Albatross and started helping the Techs out, and by help...it meant Akira only encouraging the Techs and telling them they were doing a great job. Once or twice he picked up a bag to unload the Albatross, but the rest...all support.

“Welcome into TRAP, greenhorn.

Here, come inside. I will keep this welcome and briefing short because of a certain problem that has happened just now.”

Leo gulped inaudibly before making his way into the office’s doorway, stopping for a moment within it to get a look at the interior, as well as his commanding officer who was seated at her desk, a rather obvious look of annoyance on her face. She looked surprisingly young, much different from Leo’s mental image of her, which based on his sister’s description, somewhat resembled an angry nun. To Leo’s surprise, there was a second woman in the room as well, who, if it was possible, wore an even more sour look on her face. Unlike Adelheid though, this sour face seemed… almost natural for her, as if it was the expression she most commonly wore.

“Something the matter, chief?” Leo asked, directing his question at Adelheid, trying to play down the fact that he was surprised at the presence of a second individual.

“Well, as you might have known-”

“Some idiots took an important piece of our technology out for a joyride.” The second woman didn’t even let Adelheid finish her sentence.

“Yeah,” Adelheid sighed, “that is the situation that we’re having right now. But it shouldn’t concern you much.” It was clear that she did not appreciate the second woman’s presence there. To avoid getting more sharp glares from either of them, Leo decided to stay quiet, and kept his curiosity about the second woman’s identity to himself for now..

“You are Leo Vega, Lauren’s younger brother, is that true?”

“Yeah, that’s me.”

“From your file, it seems like you have little to no combat or piloting experience. Tch, what a pain. I’ll assign some of the senior pilots here to train you personally. Don’t disappoint them by performing horribly. The battlefield’s not a place to mess around, so I really hope you can be serious about your training. But for now…

Catch!”

Without Leo expecting it, Adelheid threw something straight at his direction. Leo attempted to catch it, managing to get one hand on the object before fumbling, bouncing it between his hands for a second or two before finally managing to get a grip on it.

“It’s the keycard to your sister’s room. Now go get some rest. I’ll give you the schedule for your training and further briefing later.” It was fairly clear to Leo that Adelheid did not appreciate his presence for some reason.

“Oh, and one more thing.” Another object was thrown by Adelheid to Leo’s direction, although this time he managed to catch it with little difficulty.

“That there is the TRAP handbook, containing the rules and regulations in this place, among other things. Make sure you read it and understand it well, else you will be in for some seriously nasty things. Now scram, I’m really busy here.”

“Sure. I’ll do that.” Leo made his way out of the room rather quickly, much preferring to get his things out of the hallway and into his room to being glared at.

---

“Hey, you see that Rob?”

“See what?”

“Thought i saw something… over there! Its a frame. Sensors aren’t picking it up… strange.”

“Can you make out the model?”

“No… never seen one like this before… let me check the computer.” The Myrmidon’s onboard computer ran the feed from its camera through its database, comparing the image to all of the frames it had on record, eventually finding a match to combat footage of the Drachenrand from a previous engagement with TRAP. Its pilot, Dex read what little information the database provided and relayed it to his wingman, Rob, in his own Myrmidon flying roughly 1000 feet away above and behind the Drachenrand’s flight path. “Its a SAF SF, from the looks of it. But what’s it doing all the way out here?”

“Don’t they usually show up with friends Dex?”

“Yeah. Better report it in and bug out. I don’t wanna get caught by that thing with just two Myrmidons.”

“Right. Keep a beat on him while i call it in.” It took Rob less than a second to key in his mothership’s radio frequency, bringing its comms officer online. “Chief, spotted what looks like one of those gnarly SAF bandits all by his lonesome in area IS10. Confirmed a visual detection but he’s not showing up on the instruments. I think he’s trying to be sneaky, the bastard. He might have some friends in the area, any chance of us getting some backup? ”

“Roger that.” The communications officer, a young woman in her late 20’s turned to her commanding officer. “Sir, Dex and Rob have spotted what appears to be a SAF Synchro Frame in area IS10’s Airspace. They’re requesting support before they engage. There may be more of them in the area.” The commanding officer, a woman just slightly older than the communications officer, thought about the request for several seconds, before coming with an answer. “I see. Alright then, though I doubt we can reach the place in time since we still need to finish the engine maintenance of the ship. Ira, contact the Dublin base now, and request some help from there. We’ll go there immediately while we can, but we’ll need them to hold the SAF Frame there before we arrive. Do you copy?”

“Yes, sir.”

---

“What the hell were they thinking anyway, sending a completely inexperienced boy to my team?

It’s like they have forgotten that this is supposed to be an elite team, not a ragtag bunch of clowns in giant mechs.” Adelheid complained to herself as her glare was still fixed at Leo as he left her office hastily.

“Well, he’s certainly far from anyone I’d entrust even a combat frame to, but I don’t think he’ll be much of a headache for you, rookieness aside.

So, what now? The twins are still out there, you know?”

“Tch, I’ll go get them, if that’s fine with you, of course.”

“Ehh...well, I guess there’s no other choice. Don’t waste too much time, and pull them over back here as fast as you can.”

“If you say so, milady.” Adelheid said mockingly, but after it was responded by a sharp glare from Aeolia, she decided to just leave her office, and go straight to the hangar, where her Frame was stored.

---

Lauren’s room was much more immaculate than Leo expected it to be, her belongings having already been cleaned out in preparation for Leo’s arrival.  It felt as empty as it looked, the light, pale blue walls and floor immaculate and clean, the bed made neatly. Had he not been informed, Leo would never have known that this room was once inhabited at all. Unfortunately, the emptiness complimented his dreary mood rather nicely, and as he brought his bags inside, he couldn’t help but succumb to the feeling of dread that seemed to wash over him. It was much the same as eight years ago, only this time Lauren wasn’t there to comfort him. He was entirely alone; no one was there to notice this time.

Admittedly, Leo knew on some level he wasn’t handling his sister’s loss well, but he’d be damned before he let any of these people know it. He wasn’t weak, after all. Besides, he didn’t need anyone to look after him, and judging by the less-than-warm welcome he’d received from his new commanding officer, nobody was particularly looking forward to showing him the ropes, either. Leo guessed that, once the novelty of his arrival had worn off, the rest of his teammates would behave in much the same way. After all, what the hell did he know about piloting a frame, much less filling in the void left by his older sister, which even Leo could tell was gaping. To put it bluntly, his being here was entirely pointless, and both he and everyone else on base knew it to be true. All he could do now was wait to die on some stupid mission, the significance of which he was likely never to understand nor have much of an impact on.

These thoughts continued to swirl through Leo’s head as he unpacked his things, carefully standing his guitar case up in a stable corner and not-as-carefully putting his clothes and belongings in their proper places. When all was said and done, his new room looked much the same as it had when he began, save a few extraneous objects that were now strewn about, though inside the confines of the various containers now resided a mess that would surely spill out in due time, causing the place to look and feel like it was inhabited by a teenage boy. Before Leo could settle down and begin to read the surely riveting volume that his new CO had so kindly chucked at his head, however, he heard a knock at his door.

“What do you want?!” He called through, an audible tone of annoyance and frustration in his voice.

---

“So to what do I owe the honor of her highness gracing us with her lovely presence?’ Gavin asked jokingly as he spied Adelheid making her way toward the row of frames in the hangar.

“I can hear you, so please stop calling me that. Also, that freeloading complainer, well,  you-know-who asked me to pull the twins back here. Probably because my Frame’s speed, or something. And not to mention, I’m a bit bored.”

Gavin chuckled. “I wouldn’t be talking to you if you couldn’t hear me, now would I Adel.” He rushed through pronouncing his pet name for her, hoping she wouldn’t get stuck on it this time. “You sure you’re gonna be ok going by yourself? Might be a good idea to take one of us with you you know. Especially if you’re headed where I think you’re headed.”

“When my frame can go three times the speed of your other frames, I don’t think any helps for now is necessary. And really, I need to go there as fast as I can, the chance for the twins to get themselves into trouble is becoming bigger and bigger with each second.”

“Just saying, might be a good idea to take Feng with you or something. You’d get there in plenty of time without needing to burn out Avalon’s jets, you know. Either way, I’ll get the rest of the kids on standby in case you need us. Its not like Slacker over there is doing anything useful right now anyway.” He pointed to Akira, whom he hadn’t yet called out on his failure to follow orders.

“Taking that brat along with me? Naah, no support. And I guess you should do that.” After finishing her sentence, Adelheid immediately continue her way towards her frame. “Oh, and one more thing before I leave.”

“And that is?”

“I think you should talk with the new pilot, and arrange a training schedule or something. We need him to catch up fast, and really, I think he’s too intimidated by my presence right now. You could probably handle him better than me.”

“Kid’s got a long way to go if he’s intimidated by someone as adorable as you, you know. Anyway, i’ll go check up on him. You stay safe now, alright?”

“Of course I will.”

With that, Gavin nonchalantly made his way toward the interior of TRAP’s base, making sure to turn on the Frame catapult for Adelheid’s Avalon before he left. Afterward, he made his way through the Base’s mess hall and into the crew quarters, counting the numbers on the automatic sliding doors until he came to the number he knew marked Lauren’s room. He’d been down here plenty of times before, though it pained him a bit to remind himself that she was no longer among them. Still, it was best to put that aside for now. He was sure the last thing this kid needed was to be reminded about his big sister. After a deep breath, Gavin knocked on the door.

“What do you want?!”

“Figured I’d introduce myself, kid. Mind if I come in?”

“Do what you want.”

Gavin opened the door and was greeted with a glare from Leo, who was lazily sitting on his new bed, TRAP manual in hand.

“You know nobody with half a brain reads that, right?” The joke brought just a hint of a smile to Leo’s face, though it was violently suppressed immediately in order to continue maintaining the glare.

“Don’t suppose you’d be another one of my squadmates?”

“As a matter of fact, kid, I’m your new boss. CO put me in charge of you, and when she’s not around I’m in charge of this little pack of misfits.”

“That so? Didn’t know this job came with a babysitter. Must suck to have to watch a kid like me huh? What’d you do to piss her off I wonder?” Leo’s voice was dripping with contempt, and it was pretty obvious that he was in no mood to talk to anyone, or was at least putting up a front so as to appear to not be in the mood to speak.

“You can drop the tough guy act, kid. Around here its liable to get you corrected, and believe me, that’s not fun.” Gavin’s tone was stern, but by no means unapproachable. It was blatantly obvious that the kid was hurting. “Anyway, name’s Gavin. Gavin Decker. If you’re all unpacked you should come with me, we might need you to fly today if you can handle it.”

“If I can handle it? Since when was this optional?” Leo’s glare softened a bit, though he himself didn’t notice his facade failing. “Yeah, sure. And stop calling me “kid”, will ya? My name is Leo.”

Gavin flashed a smile. “If you behave, kiddo. C’mon, gotta show you your new frame. You kids like to play with giant robots, right?”

“Real funny.” Grumbling, Leo followed Gavin out of his room, and the pair made their way down the hall, but not before stopping off at the base’s Command and control room, which at the moment was vacant save for one of the operators.

“Hey Pam, gotta use the PA. Addy made it out ok I gather?”

“She’d kill you if she heard you call her that, Gavin. Yeah she’s on her way northwest now. Here let me fire up the PA for you.”

“Thanks.” Gavin gave her a wink as he walked up to the microphone. “All pilots report to your stations. I repeat, all pilots report to your stations. I want the lot of you on standby five minutes ago, got it?” Gavins voice, metallic and booming, echoed throughout the base, audible to every living soul within. He turned back to Leo. “I think that might be my favorite part of the job.”

---

“I have to admit, this chair is more comfortable than I first thought. No wonder Adelheid seemed to enjoy idling here while doing nothing.”

The only person inside of Adelheid’s office now was Aeolia, who seemed to take quite a liking on the CO’s chair, rocking on it as she waited for any news regarding the twins from Adelheid. She actually had little to no intention to report today’s incident to her superiors, mainly due to the paperworks and the headache those induced her with. Not to mention, being able to collect more performance and combat data about the Drachenrand was a pretty nice deal too. And she definitely did not goad Adelheid to pick up the twins so she could collect the data from her Frame too. That didn’t mean that she appreciate the twin’s action at all, she’s just not as concerned about it as she appeared to be.

But now, she’d just enjoy her time relaxing on the CO’s comfy seat, while pondering whether she should request another similar seat to be sent to the base for her own use.

---

“Ugh, at times I can’t help but think the anti-radar coating of the Drachenrand is more trouble than its worth.”

Adelheid continued to look for the twins near what she presumed to be the site of the battle where they lost Lauren. The anti-radar coating on Drachenrand really make it unnecessarily hard for her to just pinpoint their location, beat some sense towards them, and then haul them back to the base.

After several minutes of not finding any signs of the two, Adelheid decided to take a look to her Frame’s radar just to see whether there’s any enemy around there or not.

“Wait, what?”

Her radar detected what seemed to be several Frames somewhere dangerously near to her current position, and apparently they were heading towards somewhere. Without any SAF ground operation base nor Shells around, safe to say that those Frames definitely belonged to the Terra Firma, and more likely than not, the twins had been spotted by them.

“Give me a goddamn break, can’t you all?” Adel grumbled as she started to establish a connection with the base to relay the news to them.

---

“Say what now?”

Gavin was sitting in the Canis’s pilot seat, teaching Leo to calibrate some of its instruments, when Adelheid’s communique rang out in his earpiece. “Son of a b****. Well, I guess it can’t really be helped now, can it?” He turned to Leo. “You’re gonna get a crash course in flying today, kid. Chief wants all of us out there to cover the Drachenrand. Looks like Terra Firma got a beat on it.”

“The what?”

“That black SF that took off when you got here. Seems its pilots wanted to take it for a spin and like idiots they got caught by Terra Firma’s recon patrols. You know how to make this guy move at least, right?”

“I can shoot, too.”

“Good enough for me. Just stay back and out of the action and you should be ok today. Doesn’t look like anything serious. But you gotta do what I say up there, alright?”

“Yeah, sure.” Le nodded, though he wasn’t really intent on listening to anything this clown had to say. Gavin made his way out of the cockpit and down the catwalk toward his own machine while Leo sat down in the Canis’s seat, turning the machine on. Outside, he could hear the combat alert siren sounding, signaling to all of TRAP’s pilot’s that it was time to sortie.

BGM: Operation

“Main system: Activating Combat Mode. SFS-09X Canis System active. Good Morning.” The Canis’s computer spoke in a reassuring female voice, and Leo couldn’t help but smile just a little. The startup message was obviously something Lauren had programmed in herself, and Leo was reminded of a happier time when his sister had shown him the interior of her old CF, during one of his rare visits to her previous unit. A similar message had playing in that machine, too. Leo got on the radio as the Canis’s optics picked up the other frames starting up as well. “Uhhh… Leo here… I uhh.. I’m ready to go, sir.”

“Good, you managed to start it by yourself. Just stick to me and you’ll be ok, got it?’ Gavin’s voice echoed back over the comm channel as the Hailstorm stepped out in front of the Canis, its head giving Leo a nod of approval. Gavin then turned to the rest of the team’s frames, speaking to the unit as a whole. “Listen up kids! Adelheid and the Twins ran into some trouble up north, and it’s our job to go bail them out. Nothing too heavy, but we can’t have our people getting outnumbered. Standard two-team formation. In light of our fearless leader’s absence, I want Melissa taking the lead on team two. Akira, Kid, Atelier, you’re with me. Feng, Mira, you two follow Mel until we link up with the twins and the Avalon. My squad will lead and engage any hostiles while you three provide cover for the twins and Adelheid. Team two will bug out first while we cover you, then we’ll make our own exit. Everyone clear?”

With that, Gavin motioned his frame to the catapult, stepping onto its footlocks while he waited for the rest of the team to follow behind. “This is Gavin, Hailstorm is launching!” The catapult’s hydraulics sent the machine rocketing forward as its thrusters ignited, sending it airborne at high speed as soon as it was free of the track. Knowing his subordinates would catch up to his slower machine, Gavin accelerated Northwest on a vector toward the airspace in which Adelheid and the twins were currently flying.

"Picking up movement," one of the Drachenrand's pilots said to the other.  They hadn't spoken much since they'd started searching, mainly because they'd become more and more frustrated as things went on.  There was nothing, absolutely NOTHING that could give them any idea of what had happened to Lau-Lau around the crash site.  No tracks, not that they expected to find any, no discarded pieces of clothing, nothing.  For what must have been at least twenty minutes since they'd started searching across a steadily wider and wider area there hadn't been a damned thing they could find anywhere.  The ground for quite a ways around the crash site had been covered in the Drachenrand's footprints, such that the pattern may well have been visible from quite high above them.  Still, as their sensors began sounding off warnings of enemy frames closing in they took their focus off of it.

"How many signatures?"  The other asked, even as they turned away from the site of their search and set off through the highlands on foot.  It didn't take long for them to hit their maximum speed that way, but even as fast as they were leaving the enemies were still gaining on them, making it obvious they were being pursued from the air.

"Looks like approximately 30,"  the first one answered as they got their thrusters warmed up to the point that they would be able to take flight relatively soon.  "We need to get in the air as quickly as-"  He was cut off by the sound of relatively low-caliber rounds impacting the Drachenrand's frame.  The fire was quickly returned with a howling burst of rounds from the GGC, pummeling the bulky combat frame that had fired upon them sufficiently that it was forced to retreat outside of the range of engagement.  It wasn't long after that, under a hail of fire from all sides but the front, that the Drachenrand took to the skies and set about their retreat.  Or at least the pilots would have retreated, were it not for another signature that came into view on their sensors.

"The Avalon?"  The other mused, before sighing as they changed course from a direct retreat and angled south-east towards what had once been the shore bordering the English Channel.  "I didn't think the Kommandant would come after us."  The Drachenrand reduced its air speed, just enough so that it was hovering on the edge of the range of the enemies' weapons as it led them away.  If their commander was there, the rest of the team couldn't have been far behind.  On the subject of Adelheid, she would find herself shortly receiving a communication from the Drachenrand.

"Hiiii mooooom~" the twins voices rang out in sing-song unison over the communications, almost as if the two of them didn't realize just how much shit they were in with her, "sorry we didn't tell you we were leaving."

Melissa was quiet for a moment, as Leo initially spoke with Altelier, before they were both bombarded by Mira.  She tackled them both to the ground, introducing herself in the chaos.  Shortly after, Feng cooly entered the room, also welcoming Leo.  It was fitting that Leo had met them this way.  He would come to understand that they were all human, despite appearances.  With introductions said and done, Leo was whisked away to Aldeheid's office.  Likely for first duties and the like, but it was all necessary.  Melissa found herself now waiting for a duo of brother's to show up unannounced, and jokingly toy with the new comer.  But then she realized, they weren't here.  She patiently listened for any sign of Johan or Heinreich, but she couldn't make anything out of the hustle and bustle in the hangar.  Finally, she spoke up.  "Has anyone seen Johan or Heinrei--" but she was cut off by the sound of alarms.  Enemies in the area?  What were the Terrans up to?  She was answered, as Gavin's voice boomed over comms.  He had jumped into his Hailstorm, as the hangar was cleared for his take off.

Seemed clear enough.  Melissa sprang into action, her heart pounding.  What were they--wait, up North?  The only thing that was of importance north of HQ was Lauren's crash site.  They were looking for something.  Melissa sprinted over to the Saviour, where tech's were scrambling to get out of her way.  She climbed the ladder to the cockpit and sealed the door overhead.  She placed the Visual Feedback Module helmet over her head, where her nerves and brainwaves were synchronized with the visual feedback from Saviour.  The machine greeted her with a moan, almost like that of a manatee.  Soothing and nurturing, the Saviour's inner lights lit up, gold and white in color.  Melissa felt a brief cold blast of air wash over her, sealing the door above her head.  Now, able to see Saviour's status, she gave it a quick once over.  "Hull status, one hundred percent.  Saviour Shield, intact.  Wilson Cloak, threaded.  Arc cannons, ready."

After Gavin launched, Melissa stepped onto the runway, and called to Feng and Mira over comms.  "On me!" she said with urgency.  She felt pressured.  As Saviour was loaded into the catapault, Melissa felt her mind wavering.  She had wanted to tell him, but she felt it was unprofessional.  Melissa found herself conflicted.  If she didn't tell him, and he was killed, she didn't know what she would do.  She shook her head, grasping the situation firmly, assessing her assignment.  The twins were in danger.  Johan was in danger.  She placed her blade over her shield and lowered the head of Saviour.

"Saviour!  Launch!" she cried.  Thrusters ablaze, Saviour burst from the hangar, taking the lead and awaiting the rest of team two.  Melissa adjusted her speed and took to the sky as she pressed north.  Blazing past canyon after canyon, she searched for signs of the Drachenrand.  At last, she picked up a friendly beacon, the ping raising her spirits.  Shield in front, Melissa weaved out of the clouds and closer to ground level, where she finally caught up to the twins.  Almost instantly, her radar picked up what seemed like dozens of hostiles.  "What did they do!?" she said aloud in her cockpit.  The enemy was everywhere, but very spread out.  It would be difficult to fight in close range while surrounded by so many enemy machines.  A light clicked in Melissa's head, as she regained her composure.

"Update to primary directive:  Secure Drachenrand safety at all costs.  Secondary objective(s):  eliminate enemy units, guide Avalon to secure location.  Okay," she whispered to herself.  She pushed her thrusters to their maximum and swooped in to the Drachenrand, taking up a defensive position in front of it.  She brought her shield up, absorbing fire.  "Status.  Small, standard rounds lacking penetration.  Threat level mild.  Okay."  Finally she turned her head to the Drachenrand, in an attempt to assess damage taken by the frame.  Damage was very minor.  The surrounding units must have been averagely equipped.  She could safely assume that the Drachenrand could sustain fairly well without her help.  She turned her attention to the Avalon, and flew towards it's deck.  Taking post there, she prepared to fend off the many Terra Firma in quick succession.

“Good grief, I really had to bail them out of this, huh?

Tch, fucking brats, they’ll oh so going to get their punishment when this is all over.”

Both of its rifles ready in its hand, Avalon charged along the battlefield, still trying to pinpoint the exact location of the Drachenrand without being spotted by some of the opposing Combat Frames, mostly by imitating their movement speed to fool their supposed outdated sensor and radar system and by not going inside their unit’s supposed visual range. Adel had quite the experience in facing up these Myrmidon mass-produced Frames, and she should be able to-

“Shit.”

-screw things up magnificently. Due to her being too focused on finding the Drachenrand, Adel accidentally let herself got spotted by a Myrmidon, and when she realized it, bullets already starting to rain upon the Avalon. She quickly moved her frame out of her way, and immediately sped itself up in fighter jet mode to create more distance between herself and her attacker. Adel knew that with one unit spotting her, it wouldn’t take long for the others to be informed of her presence here, especially with how eye-catching her frame’s coloring was.

As she tried to find a good position for her to snipe off the inevitable incoming attackers, Adel noticed an odd black frame was standing on the ground around several hundred meters from her position. Realizing what it was, Adelheid changed her direction mid-air, and went straight towards the black frame, as she was having a mixed emotion regarding on finding the Drachenrand. As she closed in towards it, Avalon’s communication system received a transmission from the Drach.

“Gee, I wonder what they will say now.”

“Hiiii mooooom-“

Booting on Alter System.exe

Anti-Synchro Mode, activated.

“The fuck did you say?”

Adel was definitely not amused hearing that from the twins, enough for her to delete the twin’s wave data from her Frame, and the cut the signal immediately before they could even finish their sentence. But before she could actually respond to the twins by punching the Drachenrand straight in the face, her sensors detected several enemy units were attempting to close in to try taking the two of them out. Not amused by this, the Avalon blitzed away on its fighter jet mode as the enemies started to open fire on it, and without wasting even a second, turned around to face the opposing frames, guns and missile launchers ready to fire.

“Alter Missiles, launch!”

Around eight black-red colored missiles was fired at once towards the opponent by the Avalon, as it charged forward, the plasma sabers from its hands was active on the jet’s front. The missiles managed to hit two of the attackers, but one managed to dodge it, and Adel’s attention was turned towards it Her target, realizing what Adel was trying to do, tried to get away from her while they kept firing at her, but Avalon was too fast for it. The Fighter jet rammed straight at the poor frame, the plasma saber directly frying the targeted cockpit, but before she actually crashed into the opposing frame, the Avalon formed its leg to kick the frame away to the ground, while also using it as leverage for her to change her direction mid-air, and she went straight towards one of the incoming reinforcement frame. But as her target thought that Adel would try to do the same trick to it, the Avalon instead turned upwards towards the sky just around 20 meters before impact, while the frame tried to dodge her. Once she was in a good enough altitude, the Avalon turned into its Frame Mode, and aimed its two Caliburns towards the opposing frames below.

“Twin Plasma Buster, fire!”

Avalon fired both of its rifles at once, and the plasma rounds immediately devastated the frame that she targeted. Immediately afterwards, Avalon reestablished her communication with the Drachenrand, just as Adel decided to turn off the Alter/System.

“You two are already problematic enough for me.

Stop idling around and help me here as I try to fix your mess now, or else...”

"Yeah, she's pissed."  One of the pilots said to the other after realizing that their commander had shut off communications with them.  As expected, she'd at first moved towards them in a way that would have suggested hostility but had quickly broken off the "attack" when she'd started taking fire.  Of course the chaos the arrival of a reinforcing frame caused in the enemy ranks was used to the Twins' advantage, and while Adel busied herself with the grunts the two of them decided it was time to stop bugging out.  Not that such would have been apparent to an onlooker, as they quickly put one of the many large hills in that area between them and the majority of the enemy formation to the end of breaking visual contact.  Now, they just had to wait.

---

"How the hell did we miss this one?!"  The squadron commander, a man not much older than the twins, shouted at his pilots as he tried to organize them again.  He was still reeling from having been forced to back off after attacking that black frame, the damage to his Myrmidon enough that risking another engagement with it was foolhardy, and now had to deal with the arrival of another frame to get his soldiers together.  "Defensive positions!  Don't let it catch you out!"  It was a testament to the training of his men that they were able to form a defensive formation which allowed all of them to draw lines of fire on their enemy without potentially harming each other.  The young Lieutenant smiled to himself as the squadron under his command-

"Lieutenant!"  The voice of one of the sergeants blared in his ear,  "that black frame, sir.  It's gone!"

"What do you mean go-" he began, before looking where it had been just a moment ago and seeing that sure enough their original target was not where it had been a moment ago.  He cursed aloud, and sent two of his four high-explosive missiles on a course towards the Avalon, as did a fair number of his pilots while they tried to take it down with volume of fire.

"VISUAL CONTACT!  200 ME-"  The communication from one of the rear pilots went dead, and the Lieutenant turned just in time to see why.

---

The Mark 2 Energized Combat Blade left the unfortunate target of the Twins' aggression little more than two smoldering chunks, which were separated by the explosion of the Myrmidon's Tesla Reactor mere moments later as the black frame rocketed into the midst of the enemy formation.  Many of the frames about tried to scatter, but many were not fast enough to avoid it.  That plasma-conducting blade struck down another two of the enemy frames before it found itself buried in the cockpit of the Myrmidon that had attempted to engage it earlier.  The weapon was withdrawn from their foe with both of the black frame's hands, allowing the now slain lieutenant to go out of control and crash into the side of one of the hills.  It was shortly after this that the two of them decided to finally respond to that message they'd been sent over the resumed communications.

"Well..." the twins began as they set back on their now relentless pursuit of the frames they'd disrupted.  Sure, their armor was getting pockmarked by shots from the enemy's Gauss Rifles, but it wasn't anything the Drach wasn't designed to handle.  Not to mention a few carefully aimed shots from those micro missiles they were carrying did a fair bit to disarm one or two of the frames about them.  "We were just going to retreat and return to base, but with your arrival on the scene, KoMOMdant, we might as well finish these guys off."  Their sentence was punctuated by the distinctive howling of their GGC as they fired at the back of one of the retreating frames and managed to puncture the armor and get through to the fuel tanks.  That Myrmidon rather quickly became a ball of fire, which must have contained a screaming pilot attempting to get the thing under control with one engine and get the fire out.  Still, though neither of them would have admitted it, the odds at current were not what they would call favorable.

As expected of Atelier, she barely reacted at all when Mira suddenly hugged her. She just casually picked up Leo's bags and showed him the way to Adel's office, ignoring Mira completely and only gave Melissa and Feng a slight nod to acknowledge their presence, before signing at Leo to follow her. Once Leo enters Adel's office, she carried his bags to Lauren's room and dropped it off there, returning back to the hangar just before Leo finishes his brief meeting with his new boss. She had nothing else to do for the rest of day, besides maybe giving Leo a shakedown of TRAP and its activities, so she retreated back to the lounge to write a report on Leo's arrival to TRAP's bigwigs. Just as she was about to click the "Send" button, she heard Gavin's voice boom over the comms.

"...Odd." She calmly remarked. Adel and the twins aren't exactly known for being the weak link of the group, so hearing that they're in a tough spot surprised Atelier slightly. Still, she's a professional soldier, and she's expected to be ready to sortie at any time. Despite everyone around her rushing to their stations in a somewhat panicked state, Atel remained calm and made sure to put down the tablet she was holding gently as to not damage it. The location and actual specifics of the mission didn't matter to her. For Atel, it's a mission like every other. Get out there, and shoot everything that's not an ally. Simple as that. As she loaded herself into Gungnir, its crew scrambled to make sure it's ready for take off.

"AMS linked, stabilizing connection... Connection stable. System check, 100% operational. 'Gungnir' ready to launch." Atel said, in an almost robotic tone, repeating the same line she's repeated at least a hundred times before. Gungnir's devillish railgun is then lowered onto its arms as the crew disconnects the white mech from its computers. After everyone safe for Mira has launched, Atel lines her mech up with the runway and fires the thrusters. "Gungnir, taking off..." With a somewhat unenthusiastic tone in her voice, Gungnir took to the skies and trailed behind Hailstorm and Raijuu.

---

Upon arriving on the battlefield, or at least close enough to it, Atelier activates Gungnir's heat tracking device and picks up three Myrmidons close to Avalon and Dracherand's position unaware of her presence. Gungnir's onboard computers began making calculations as well as showing possible shots for Atel to take, rendered in smooth 3D animations. However, Atel only paid attention to the numbers. She already knows how to take a shot, and 99% of the time, hers is better than the recommendations Gungnir makes. She patiently waited for the enemies to get in position, with Gungnir's fingers lightly pressing against the gun's trigger. All she had to do was wait until the enemy lines up in a straight line, and boom. Three more families left without a father.

The chance came sooner than later, as the Myrmidons lined up as they crossed over each other in order to get in a position to attack Dracherand from above. The brief, split-second window was more than enough for Atel, who pressed the trigger at the exact moment to ensure all three would be destroyed. Gungnir's projectile flew out of the barrel at an incredible speed, hitting its targets within a few miliseconds despite Atel being several hundred away from them. The bullet pierced the first Myrmidon's through the back, destroying the majority of its torso. Then it did the same for the second one. Dracherand itself is fine, though, as the bullet didn't have enough momentum to pierce through the third Myrmidon, and therefore hitting Dracherand. The three Myrmidons fell out of the sky, leaving behind magnificent shower of metal over Dracherand. "...." Despite a very successful attack, Atel didn't seem impressed, much less celebrate her shot. With a bored look on her face, she calmly moved Gungnir over to a new sniping position to repeat what she just did.

TRAP - Hangar

Despite having faced Atelier's emotionless response multitudes of times, Mira pouted slightly - although only half serious, before breaking into a wide smile again. Running to catch up to her friend, who had already started heading for the commander's office, she was walking along. The drop off of the newbie and the return was boring, so she decided to just walk around the complex when Gavin's deafeningly loud voice started to shout over the intercoms. Listening carefully, she wondered why the twins were even out, before realizing they probably went on a joyride. Oh damn, Chief's gonna have their heads. She giggled for the slightest moment, before her expression turned eerily calm. TRAP was being called into battle, and she would most likely kill a large number of people directly, and TRAP would clean up the rest, but she had absolutely no emotion to the idea or action of killing. What would excite her though would be almost in a way, competing with other TRAP members for kills. Cracking a smile again, she quickly maneuvered to her most prized possession - the Skyblaze - before strapping in.

A few miles from the crash site

Flicking on the Modified Sensor Disruption system when she was still a few miles from the crash site itself, she landed, just making sure not to do so too roughly - at this range, anything less than too obvious of a landing would probably manage to pass undetected. Laying down behind the cover of several trees for a little more cover, the namesake plasma cannon of the Skyblaze unfolded. Looking through the scope in combination with the mecha's screen to search for targets, she noticed three Myrmidons suddenly being obliterated, and immediately recognized it as Atelier's work, with no other attacker that could cause that damage in range. Not willing to fall behind, Mira tracked down a target of her own. The massive sniper cannon began to charge up rapidly, with a pleasant whirring sound. As the plasma began to gather, the sound turned into a hissing sound, the plasma burning intensely.

Crash Site

Steve was shivering slightly inside his Myrmidon. The odds seemed hopeless, and new TRAP soldiers who were infamous as the elite of SAF kept flowing in. He didn't want to die, and he couldn't get himself to fight. His friend Bert's voice suddenly burst through his comms system.

"Stevie, whatcha doin'? Gonna piss your pants? If you scared, just thinka it this way: You don't fight, we have less of a chance. We lose here, we all die, and TF is gonna be screwed over too, at least for a bit. If ya do fight, we have more of a chance of winning? Sure, they might have a bunch of really strong boy toys, but we just need to be careful and divert them until reinforcements come. Come on, let's go fight together! Watch how I do it!"

Gulping, the Steve steeled himself to fight. There were two immediate problems, and then another threat that he recognized. The black mech and its friend were the two immediate issues, but there seemed to be another, sniping from afar, who had just taken down three with a single shot. Bert started to weave around in the air, trying to make it harder for anyone to hit him. Unloading a hailstorm of bullets in the general direction of the Drachenrand. Deciding to show off a bit for his more passive buddy, Bert yelled a taunt, all over the comms, so that Steve could hear everything, while he watched.

"Eat this, baby!"

Bert's mech moved to grasp a large grenade in an attempt to take down the Drachenrand, but a blinding light from the corner of his eyes made him pause momentarily.

"What on Terra Fir-"

3PlD1Dt.png

Steve had resolved himself to fight, and he was about to follow his friend in his heroic battle against the black Frame, but crumpled in horror, screaming, as he watched a horrific turn of events unfold in front of his very eyes. Just as Bert was about to devastate the opposing Frame with a deadly grenade, what seemed to be a massive beam of light had pierced through the air with incredible speed. Before Steve could even realize what happened, his friend's entire mecha was enveloped by the whitish-blue lance, being completely obliterated in the span of what must have been a part of a second. There was absolutely nothing left of his friend, not even ash. The spear of fire had erased his friend from existence, leaving only a steaming crater in the ground. This was different from the other sniper-style blast from before. Different angles, and different blast types. Horror dawned on his face as he realized what it meant. Both of the ruthless snipers of TRAP had made it to the scene.

3PlD1Dt.png

Mira's Location

Mira cheered quietly. The whole experience was novel every time. Even if she didn't feel anything from the action of killing itself, the raw destruction and power of life and death she held in her hands felt amazing. This perfect kill boosting her competitive spirit, her eyes went wide, her smile turning disturbingly wide. Skimming over the ground as she relocated to a new spot, she searched for another set of targets.

"Targets acquired."

3PlD1Dt.png

Crash Site

Steve could only watch in horror as the spear of heaven continued to dish out its divine punishment. Friends and acquaintances were being wiped out, and he just sunk into a state of shock, wondering when he would die next. Almost praying to be annihilated, just so the suffering and terror would come to an end, he blacked out, his mecha falling facedown into the muddy ground.

3PlD1Dt.png

Mira's Location

After having eliminated her list of targets, she exhaled silently. She wondered if anyone discovered where she was camping for the last few kills, but almost entertained the possibility. As if fate itself heard her, a squad of three or so Myrmidons flew at her in a spearhead formation.

Interesting… Maybe I can try this attack out.

Aiming at the one that was furthest left for her, she pulled the trigger, but at the same time, swung the cannon to her right. The key behind this conceptually planned attack would be by utilizing the "burst" that the Skyblaze used for its traditional lance-like beam. A single beam couldn't extend that far, so by shooting off three to four blasts in a very small window of time, she could extend the strike to be longer. In this case, by swinging the gun, she hoped each individual would "spray out" to hit the three targets. Worst case scenario, she could just retreat with the backup weaponry and her speed.

She squealed slightly in joy when it had worked, but growled when it was less optimal then she would have wished for. While the first one was almost entirely obliterated, the remaining two blasts had just barely made it. The second blast had veered upwards but was still on target enough it vaporized the head of the mecha, killing the pilot instantly. The third was the uncertain result though, with the blast having punctured the mecha straight through its center when Mira had tried to account for the veer upwards by slamming the gun back down, which resulted in the off-aim strike. It would still be enough to render the enemy completely useless and probably kill the pilot by the drop alone, but the missed definite kill angered her a great deal. Calling to the rest of the TRAP squadron over the communications system, she spoke with a quiet and calm tone, just barely concealing the murderous undertone.

"Let's obliterate all of them, shall we?"

"We were just going to retreat and return to base, but with your arrival on the scene, KoMOMdant, we might as well finish these guys off."

“….You two are intentionally making me angry, aren’t you?”

Adelheid was definitely less than amused with the twin’s new nickname for her, but her irritation towards the two was short-lived, as she realized that she was still in a dangerous situation, and she could just deal with them later in the base.

And then, she noticed them. The rest of the TRAP has managed to catch up with the two, and now they were already starting to do their own thing to handle the incoming grunts. Noticing the Savior closing in towards her current position, Adel immediately tried to establish a connection with Melissa.

"Melissa, you there?

Just cover Drachenrand for now. That will be more effective. And besides, sooner or later the twins will probably pull something stupid or too dangerous, so they'll definitely need you around to keep their asses intact."

---

“Ira, what is the current status of the ship’s engine?”

The commander of the battleship “Ceres”, a young woman called Annerheim, was seemingly looking calm as she waited for her communications officer’s answer, though some traces of both anxiety and eagerness could be seen on her expression.

“The maintenance is not completely finished yet, sir.”

“…”

It has been around twenty minutes after Dex and Rob’s report of an enemy Synchro Frame, and from what she could gather, the situation there was getting worse and worse, especially after the SAF’s reinforcement arrived. Those pilots from the Dublin base definitely would not stand any chance of survival at this rate.

“Ira, order the crew to stop the maintenance work and get ready to launch the ship.

We don’t have much time left.”

“Are you sure, sir?”

“This is an order. Just carry it out.

Also, order the pilots to get ready, we’ll need them more likely than not.

Understood?”

“Yes, sir.”

As Ira returned to her post to start contacting the engine crew and the pilots, a young, black haired boy (?) approached Annerheim.

“So, Captain, this seems to be that certain fabled SAF group consisting entirely of powerful Synchro units, huh?

They seems too disorganized to be called an elite team.”

“Don’t underestimate them. I believe you have seen the recording of their battles, and it is clear from those that these individuals are skilled pilots.”

“Yeah, though, they looked like a ragtag bunch more than an elite team still. Also, I like how the white Synchro Frame with the big cannon looks really similar to your Nyx, captain. It’s like as if one is based from the other or something.”

“Enough of the chatter, Saria. Return to the hangar and start your preparation. We are going to sortie soon.”

“Ah, don’t be so tense like that, Captain. I’m just really intrigued about them, nothing big.

But alright, I’ll go now. Hopefully everyone will survive this sortie.”

---

“…I don’t know why, but I’m getting really anxious about the fact that I’ll meet face to face with that team. Probably because they’ll be quite the challenge for me to overcome?” Nisaria thought as he changed his attire into a pilot suit. He’s not exactly a fan of his uniform on the ship, which, for a reason unknown to him, seems to be more fitting to be used by a girl, not a boy, but thankfully it didn’t come with a skirt. Though, since everyone seemed to be quite amused by it, he kept wearing that uniform. That’s not really an issue for him still; he’s conscious enough about the fact that he’s pretty feminine looking and sounding for a boy.

“Quite the bad day for us to engage them, still. Some of the pilots are away due being needed somewhere else, and the ship’s not even supposed to do anything today. Probably Captain will just resort to long range assault tactics to drive them away.

Engaging all of them at the same time could very well be suicidal, even for me or the Captain. But, if she ordered me to do that, guess I’ll do what she ordered.”

He climbed into his Frame’s cockpit after doing a quick overview about the frame’s status, and once he’s inside, he booted up the mech’s operating system.

Project Star of Hope, XSF-005KY Stellarion, Activated

May the light of the skies above be your wings, o child of the stars.

The stern, yet calm tone ringing from his frame’s OS really reminds him of his sister. Back when Mr.White, his “father”, gave the machine to him, he was given the choice of choosing the OS’s voice, and he chose this one. But, that was simply a thing of the past. He needed to focus on his current mission, otherwise he’d get shot down. After making sure that Stellarion was ready to launch, Saria turned on its communication device, and connected it to Ceres’s control room.

“This is unit-01, the White Devil

Ready to launch anytime now.”

Thankfully Akira finished helping unloading the Albatross, only to hear Gavin's voice through the comm channel, as he sighed. Though actually, this time he was alright with him speaking this time...

“All pilots report to your stations. I repeat, all pilots report to your stations. I want the lot of you on standby five minutes ago, got it?”

Akira grinned as he made his way through the scrambling pilots as he took out his cell phone once again, pressing a few buttons in a combination. He smirked as on the screen, a small holographic projection was seen. "SFS-71X Raiju...Access Code: Azure." he said, as he made his way to the Frame bay.

Voice Recognition: Akira Jiyuu! Access Code: Status....APPROVED! SFS-71X Raiju Frame online!

As he walked in, he saw his Synchro Frame light up as it began to power up and the cockpit opened. "Finally some action I can take all this frustration out on!" he grinned, as he made his way into the Frame's cockpit, finally locking himself in.

"SFS-71X Raiju and Akira...damn ready to go!" Akira said simply over the comm. "Oh and by the way newbie...just stay out of my way and you'll be fine."

Then the moment he was waiting for...the Frames were launching out now. First with Hailstorm, then Savior, Gungnir, Skyblaze...

OST - Speed Star

"Akira Jiyuu!! Raiju!! IKUZO!!!"

With this, the Raiju was launched as the Flight Unit activated and he took off right after Gavin and the others. And when he caught up to them, he really caught up to them. "Yell at me later, Gav...I'm taking point!" he said quickly, as he flipped Gavin off, and quickly cut comm ties as he flew ahead, as he smirked. "Raiju...prepare for assault!"

OST - Samurai Edge

Akira went all out on the controls, as now he had bogeys firing at him and even chasing him. Perfect, just what he wanted... He maneuvered as quick as he could as he finally had the Raiju turn around quickly and unsheath the twin katanas: Kusunagi and Masamune. "BEGONE!!!" he said as he put full-throttle on the thrusters and the Flight Unit, as he flew quickly and began to sever the arms and legs and even cannons and blasters that the other mechs had against him.

"That's right...the fall before my feet!!" Akira laughed as he was swinging the katanas in the Frame's hands, as he flew off towards the next group.

Feng had lagged behind the other TRAP pilots, but not out of lack of practice for being one of the newer members.

He stood in the hangar, unmoving and alone, while the rest of them, even the newbie, had launched. Facing his still figure square on was the piece of art that was the SFS-72X Wukong, his custom and personally designed Synchro Frame. But, staring up to it's majestic stature, his pride and joy now seemed quite cold to him. A conflicted feeling towards it had grown with each past outing of the TRAP squadron, and he felt, today, it was going to grow again. Despite this, by habit, his eyes wandered over the Frame's sleek, dramatic design - to each of the rotating joints and torso, and then to the gold armour plates that adorned its shoulders, before his gaze finally rested on the white simian face-mask. Through the round eyeholes, the Frame's red oculi stared back at him. Inhuman, menacing, this was the machine that was letting him - no, making him kill. This was a machine whose sole purpose was killing.

At the same time, the machine represented everything Feng relished in. Power, supremacy, glory, exaltedness. It was built in the likeness of the Qitian Dasheng, the Great Sage Equal to the Heavens. He would become one with it and he would dominated the battlefield. Each swing of his plasma staff bisected another fool who thought to challenge him, and his adrenaline-fuelled feelings ran wild when he piloted it. This was something that would always be fresh, always exciting.

The allure of destroying the enemy was irresistible... but who was he to delight in taking human lives?

He gave up his train of thought, and climbed up to the cockpit before Aeolia would notice him on the holocams, and rebuke him for being dawdling around. It was time to focus on the task at hand, and Feng settled very comfortably into his pilot's seat while the AMS helmet lowered itself snugly onto his head. Without wasting a second further, the Wukong flew out of the hangar.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was later than he thought, as he came to the destruction of the battlefield. Ruined Frames already littered the ground, and at the sight of these, Feng's blood began to pump. With a quick scan of his surroundings, the Wukong zipped forwards, towards a cluster of three Combat Frames that had lingered too long in one spot. With a few well timed whirls of his plasma staff, he blocked the oncoming bullet rounds while consuming the least possible amount of energy. Then with a burst of speed, he closed in on the farthest of them, impaling the Frame on his staff. Just as the other two began to turn and react, the rotating torso set into motion and the Wukong's upper body did a 360 spin, the plasma staff extending to its full extent to catch both Frames in its path. Without hesitation, he turned, and bounded forwards to his next prey, only to find the SFS-71X Raiju steal it away in front of him.
Broken from his rhythm, he paused and those long antennae on the Wukong's head danced as they caught all forms of signals, pinpointing their origins through triangulation.
"Melissa, you there?
Just cover Drachenrand for now. That will be more effective. And besides, sooner or later the twins will probably pull something stupid or too dangerous, so they'll definitely need you around to keep their asses intact."
"Understood," she radioed back.  Melissa left the Aldnoah, shield first.  She flew quickly, and with some slight adjustments to her thrusters, darted past the Wukong and shot up towards the Drachenrand.  With fire coming in from every direction, there was no time to continue a fight.  Drawing the Wilson Cloak, Melissa covered the Drachenrand's back, and took point.  "Come on!  Let's get the heck away from here!" she called to the twins.  Slicing through enemy machines, Melissa took the brunt of incoming fire with just her shield.  Any Arc shots would be absorbed by the Wilson Cloak, and heavier fire would be calculate for.  There were many hostiles, but the charge progressed slowly.  Melissa had to hope that Altelier was posted somewhere, and could provide additional covering fire.  Just as her mind wavered, Melissa snapped back to catch a heavy explosive round directly in the center of her shield, causing her to brace herself.  The blast forced her back several meters, and before the dust settled, three more were headed her way. Judging by her backwards momentum, the rate of fire, and the point of impact, the enemy firing these rounds was south of her, likely coming from the valley.  This was inconvenient, because that was the direction they were headed.  However, now that she knew where the shots were coming from, Melissa could adjust her shield to better absorb the rounds, and maybe slice a few of them in half before impact.
The fire had ceased for just a moment, long enough for Melissa to spot two enemy frames in the valley.  One with a large launcher on it's shoulder, and the other bracing the launcher behind.  As the rockets went off, Melissa dashed in, ducking one and slicing it from it's rear.
"She dodged it!?" One of the units called.
A volley of three rounds exploded towards her, and Melissa angled her shield downwards, but raised it up higher.  This allowed her to better absorb the blasts, and keep the explosion's momentum away from herself and the Drachenrand.
"Reload!  Reload!!"
Too late.  Melissa had caught them now.  She stuffed her blade in the barrel, and used her shield to bash in the chest of the first enemy frame, exposing it's core.  Melissa then fired two arc rounds directly into the unit's core, causing a meltdown.  Lastly, she drew her blade back from the barrel, and stuffed it through the cores of both frames at one time, sticking them together.  She then kicked the two locked frames down the valley, into the river below, where they exploded together.  "Guess I'll have to replace that," she said staring at her now empty holster for her blade.  "Let's go.  It's gonna be a long flight."
"Well, things've certainly improved."  One pilot said to the other as the entire rest of TRAP came seemingly out of the woodwork to help  them out of their current predicament.
“….You two are intentionally making me angry, aren't you?”
"Well, I guess we'd better stop pushing our luck with her for right now,"  The other commented, only a few moments before the two of them received some very direct support in the form of the Saviour coming along to help them soak up some of the enemy's fire.  That was a less than ideal situation to be sure, they both agreed on that, but at the same time it was better than the situation they had been in for the preceding several minutes.  All the same, one of them found himself worried.
"Alright, this is as good a time as any for us to bug out,"  came the communication from the Drachenrand as its pilots turned the frame away from the fight.  The fire that had been focused on them had long since been drawn away by the other members of the unit, and between the fire coming from the Skyblaze and Gungir, and the closer range support provided by the Wukong and Raiju along with the Saviour the targets close in to them were disappearing fast.  With what was, at the very least, the first wave of enemies quickly turning to a small collection of survivors under the combined assault of the entire force, it was a simple matter to slip away.  Turning back towards the English Channel and the coast beyond it, that nearly solid black frame rocketed away on streams of super-heated plasma.  The pilots assumed that with their withdrawal the rest of TRAP would leave, after all there wasn't any other reason for the rest of them to come out so far from HQ other than to retrieve them.
"Komomdant Schwarzchild," the pilots said in unison, clearly something of a compromise between the minds of the two, "We trust that you don't think we came out all this way for no reason.  If you'll listen to us, we have a report to give you on what we've found.  Something more than what those verzögert they sent out to retrieve the Canis came up with.  Just a thought, assuming you're not too pissed to deal with us when we get back."  The twins just left that comment hanging in the air as they retreated at a good bit below their maximum airspeed, waiting for the rest of TRAP to follow after them before they got up to speed.  Didn't want to be leaving their allies behind after all.
