Rules and Guidelines for Polls

Recommended Posts

Welcome to Polls! This is a section to host your own polls for whatever reason that may come to you.

I. Global YCM Rules
As always, the global YCM rules apply here.

II. Spam & Content
Short, non-constructive comments or general spam (such as a sole reaction image) should be avoided here. Generally, make sure your posts are at least 1-2 full sentences (this should amount to about 15 or so words), or we may consider it spam.

You all are free to post reaction images, but make sure you fill the word requirement.

Shouldn't be difficult to write a proper sentence.

I dislike this change.

It's polls. You shouldn't need to introduce an 'advanced clause' telling people how to vocally vote. This isn't somewhere that needs the constructive criticism element. It's a place that is, by and large, meant for fun. You can argue the same for RPs/CC, but the difference is that those need constructive input.

This just discourages you from being silly when, let's face it, Polls is just Misc. for voting with a very slightly higher standard. I shouldn't need to write everything to say I voted for Gangrel when I can just post YourMotherWasAContest.jpg and laugh it up with people that get it.

EDIT: Whoops, wrong thread. Guess I'll c/p.

I'm perfectly fine with this.

As said MANY times in that thread, if you really don't want to explain, then just vote in the poll and be done with it.

1-2 sentences is still easy enough to write; that's why it was chosen.

Most of us are able to do it, and indeed already followed this guideline before it was made official.

---

Basically, just cut out the 2-3 word "(option) gmv" votes and that's it.

I don't get the issue.

Barely anyone posts that, and it's not even that bad when they do.

It doesn't matter if you have a standard, but there is a genuine argument to not have that imposed. Just ban the GMV posts as they are if that's what you want, don't enable post count in the name of 'quality' posts in a poll.

This rule is stupid, who even cares?

What's wrong with just saying "I vote for X" essentially?

And you don't follow the rule either.

If you want people to follow your rules that you lay out, you yourself you should be a good example.

You know, instead of just being the literal representative of that phrase "Do as I say, not as I do."

Then report the post. Simple.

Anyway, I do think the rules could be simplified into

No "X gmv posts"

No "Just a picture" posts

Or, you know, the basic rules for Spam that the entire site beyond Misc sections are supposed to follow.

Just for the record, the rule was basically implemented to cut down on 2-3 word posts.

That, and solely reaction images.

Whatever Neph had quoted technically followed the 1-2 sentence thing and did not contain just a reaction image.

There was a reason for voting in that case, except that said reason was not specified.

It's fine to just say "(x) gets my vote due to reason", but just not something like "option gmv" and then leave.

The proposed changes are fine, but just note that the post that was linked to was in the boundaries of acceptable things.
