Utopia: Seven Days [OOC]

Opening: Feel so Good

Ending: Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru ni

Utopia, by definition a paradise, a perfect place, but ironically derives its name from Greek meaning "no place". Such a place cannot exist, or can it? On a snowy New Year's Eve, an invitation falls from the sky inviting you to "Utopia". Of course, such an invitation cannot be believed, but you cannot help but keep the invitation regardless. Then, at midnight exactly, the invitation glows and you are whisked away to another world. A beautiful fantasy world of games and eternal happiness, with all sorts of impossible wonders. You are given seven days by the Queen of Utopia to decide whether you want to leave or stay here forever.

This is a short, psychological RP. You will play someone who is suffering or has suffered greatly living in our modern world, as that is the prerequisite to acceptance into Utopia. Ideally, you still have something lingering regrets or obligations left in our world that prevents you from completely accepting a happy life in Utopia. The RP has a number of possible directions it can go depending on the interests of the accepted RPers. I personally imagine this RP to be sweet and emotional. The RP will only run for a relatively short duration, with a number of possible endings to the seven days spent in Utopia.
I have final say regarding everything in this roleplay and I may edit the rules as I please. Advanced Clause applies in this RP, no godmodding, powerplaying or metagaming; you need 4 lines of text in each IC post; no expying or copy-pasting characters without modifying them for this RP first.

This RP is Limited Acceptance. I will be accepting 3 invitees to Utopia and one potential inhabitant of Utopia. The Acceptance process will actually be quite unique, I'll be breaking some rules for this but I have one of the RP mods' permission. You will submit an app with only the basic information, an appearance section and a short background section, then I'll put the IC up and you'll make an opening post describing the events leading up to being whisked to Utopia. I will accept the people who characterize their characters the best in the opening post. Those people will finish up their app and are officially accepted into the RP while I will delete the other posts (they still can be recovered).

Please discuss with me if you wish to apply as a Utopia resident.

This RP takes place in modern day. You can come from anywhere. Because Utopia is separated from Earth's flow of time, you all arrive at the same time regardless of timezones. You also can all magically speak English, because that is the most prominent language in the world and thus Utopia adjusts to that. Also because it's more convenient for this RP.

More information to be added about Utopia.

I don't really care about how you style your application, though please use spoilers when appropriate. I will be making my fancy through the roof but you don't have to follow my lead (Although, Raine, I certainly will be disappointed if you don't). Feel free to ask me for help on anything, including coding and stuff.

Preliminary Application Must Include:
Name: (This is modern day so don't be an idiot and make some stupid unrealistic name)
Age: (You are a human. Unless you want to apply for the Utopia resident, then talk to me first)
Gender: (If you are going to be transgender, non-binary, or anything else, I expect you can play it appropriately)
Appearance: (Either include a picture with your character's height and weight as well as any differences from the picture, or include 5 lines of description)
Background: (Basically, who is your character in the modern world? A CEO? Schoolgirl? Also include nationality. You may include some back story if you wish, but I don't need it)

You may add other sections except DO NOT INCLUDE A PERSONALITY SECTION YET. This is just for the exercise of characterizing your character in your opening post. After the opening post, in the full application, you may include a personality section.
The Girl Who Forgot to Look Back

Name: Harumi Hoshimiya (星宮 春海 lit. Hoshimiya Harumi)
Nicknames: [acronym="What other people usually nickname her as."]Umi (海 lit. "Sea")[/acronym] or [acronym="Will detail later, but essentially only for those she feels close to, and in that case, she'd offer to the person saying that they could call her by this name instead."]Sango (春海 lit. "Coral")[/acronym]
Age: 13 and a half!
Gender: Female
Height: [acronym="~5.05 feet"]154 cm[/acronym]
Weight: [acronym="Roughly 101 pounds"]46 kg[/acronym]

[acronym="Personality left blank at host's request for now."]"..."[/acronym]

Born in a small coastal village on one of Japan's many islands, Harumi grew up with the oceans quite literally. Despite not having seen the modern-day technological advances that the rest of the country went through, she was still happy, taking pleasure from just living a calm and normal life. Her daily life consisted of a plain routine of eating breakfast with her family - usually consisting of some sort of seafood caught that morning - before going out for her normal walk along the water's edge. It was a simple life, but a pleasant one without hardships. With her insant love of all things water-related from a young age, she pursued various activities such as learning to swim, dive around and explore the shallow banks around the edge, and occasionally some more adventurous goals such as surfing (although they usually ended up with her crashing into the water - not that it put her down though). All in all, over the years, she ended up looking into various different niches, such as collecting all the kinds of shells she could find, or building different kinds of small sandcastles.

Unfortunately, as the years passed, the things which had brightened her childhood so much no longer glowed so strongly. Combined with news of fascinating things in the outside world coming in, with even simple technological advances sounding like magic to her, Harumi's heart began to turn. A desire to leave the world which she had grown up began to burn when she took a good look around for the first time in a long while, and realized just how much of a small world it was. However, given that they were on an island far from the large dominating land masses composing the most advanced parts of Japan, it was nothing more than a pipe dream. Spoiled by what she could not have, she began to resent what she had once loved so much, and began attempting to build a boat to flee and hopefully end up in a megacity like Tokyo.

Unable to make a full-fledged ship because of size and time issues, Harumi decided to risk it with a half-botched attempt at night time, to avoid unwelcome eyes. Carrying only the clothes on her back and a handful of provisions, in hindsight, it was fairly obvious that she hadn't been prepared at all.

After having sailed and floated around for about an hour in the bleary darkness and unsteady, turbulent tides, Harumi began to regret her rash decision. The weather soon took an unprecedented turn for the worse though, and within minutes, the ship was being battered by ice-cold rain and powerful waves. Completely lost as to her surroundings, it took all she could do to simply hold on and hope to ride out the storm. That too, didn't work out.

When a crushingly cold surge of water full-on smashed into the remains of the boat Harumi was holding on, it destroyed the rest of it beyond repair, as well as sending her into the violent tossing and turns of the oceans. She treaded desperately for a little bit, before giving up on herself. She realized how selfish she had been, as well as how immensely stupid it was for her to attempt something like this. With that mindset and the numbing cold setting in, Harumi simply let go of everything that had been holding her down, both literally and mentally. The tides could claim her, she thought. In the last few moments before she blacked out, she wondered if anyone would miss her, before having a dry chuckle to herself, thinking about how that too was another example of her selfishness - not caring about others until the last moments.

As it turned out, life had not quite abandoned Harumi, even if she had. To her surprise, Harumi's eyes opened once more, although it was accompanied by a series of violent gagging and chills. Looking around, it seemed as if she had landed on some crag of rock in the ocean, although Harumi long since had lost any regard for time, and thus wasn't sure how long she had been out. Her mood however was still in the same, self-destructive state, and so Harumi simply laid on the rock back, looking to the sky, wondering if it would reclaim her soon.

Looking up though, she saw the night sky, with all the stars shining, and Harumi thought about how beautiful they looked, and at that moment, felt immeasurably sad for having ruined what she had. Seeing a shooting star fall through the sky, she decided to chance upon it and make a wish, a wish to go somewhere better than where she had ended up...

The Queen of Utopia

Name: Calypso
Age: ???
Gender: Female
Height: 160 cm
Weight: 90 lbs (lighter than human)

Outwardly, Calypso is cheerful, outgoing, and energetic. She travels by skipping and carries a smile bright enough to lift the spirits of all around her. A candyholic, she fuels herself through the constant consumption of suckers, chocolate bars, and other sweets, and she is never seen in public without a lollipop at hand. Pampered and spoiled by her subjects, she doesn't hesitate to indulge herself or impose on others, however she always makes sure to show her gratitude. There is only one way to describe how she looks - completely and utterly happy.

As an immortal who lived thousands of years observing humanity through a scrying pool, Calypso is surprisingly perceptive and can glean what others are thinking or feeling with great accuracy.
Anyone is allowed to control NPCs. Just don't do stupid things.
NPC: Pepper

Pepper is a rabbit nymph who has been with Calypso for as long as she remembers, serving as an attendant of sorts to the Queen, and doing all sorts of odd jobs. Her origins appear to lie in some other dimension, where her race has been hunted to extinction. Because of her shy demeanor and cute appearance, she is often the subject of the Calypso's playful teasing.

As a rabbit, Pepper is afraid of humans and avoids them whenever she can. She thinks everyone is looking out to cook her and eat her, and she interprets people's looks at her as hungry stares. Of course, she isn't completely wrong, but men staring at her are often hungry in a different way. Other than Calypso, Pepper doesn't seem to form emotional bonds with anyone she interacts with. She is completely devoted to her master and lacks any empathy for others.

It appears that she actually does not get any pleasure from games, she is in a perpetually content state of just living. There are times, however, when she demonstrates curiosity in things, and she takes pleasure in occasional intellectual pursuits. Despite her lack of enthusiasm for most other things, she is remarkably talented at anything she does, except things requiring memory as she can be quite scatterbrained.
