Uggla6 Released Set - Week 8

Well I left, but I couldn't completely leave without first publishing my favorite set and the set I would have played if it were ever released.  This set is called the Stealth Dragons and they focus on Level 3 Dark Dragon-Type monsters that have a unique mechanic. As it stands there is only one way to put and card in face-down Attack position.  Darkness Approaches is the one card that does so and it is completely obsolete.  Therefore I created an archetype that focuses on creating advantage from being in face-down Attack position.  For that reason this deck will have it's own ways of placing monsters in face-down Attack position since the -3 that Darkness Approaches is makes for a difficult time playing a competitive deck.  Before I begin I would like to inform you all of the rulings surrounding face-down Attack position since I'm sure most if not all of you have not experience any games that involved them, but since Konami actually created a card that puts a card in face-down Attack position they were also forced to release rulings.

As for Konami's official rules for face-down attack position they are as follows:

1) It can't attack.
2) It is flipped by the attack during the Damage Calculation.
3) If the player switches it to Defense mode, it will remain face-down.
4) Battles follow as normal.
5) Flipping it face-up (whether in Battle or Main Phase) results in face-up Attack position.
6) Flip effects activate.

So now that you have the necessary information I welcome you to enjoy my favorite set and don't worry it's pretty small.

Stealth Dragon Ring King 1500/600
"FLIP: During damage calculation only, if this card is in Attack Position: This card gains 500 ATK, then you can destroy 1 card your opponent controls. You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by discarding 1 card from your hand. You can only use each of the following effects of "Stealth Dragon Ring King" once per turn.
● You can change this card to face-down Attack Position.
● You can Special Summon 1 “Stealth Dragon” monster from your deck, except "Stealth Dragon Ring King"."

The first and the most powerful Stealth Dragon.  As you can see from the wording you can get the jist of how this archetype works.  They revolve around getting effects by flipping during the battle phase.  This card specifically is meant to get the deck going into some combos with Special Summons and therefore is truly the king of the deck.  You're main goal is to get to this card early so you can control the game and have access to all your plays and options.

Stealth Dragon Recruiter 1000/500
"FLIP: During damage calculation only, if this card is in Attack Position: This card gains 500 ATK, then you can add 1 “Stealth Dragon” card from your deck to your hand, except “Stealth Dragon Recruiter“. You can only use each of the following effects of "Stealth Dragon Recruiter" once per turn.
● You can change this card to face-down Attack Position.
● If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Stealth Dragon" monster: Draw 1 card."

This is the standard searcher and card that creates hand advantage for the deck.  In my opinion it is the weakest card, but the consistency it brings and the card advantage makes is play a much needed role in the deck so it still is a 3 of card in the deck.  The small set requires you to maximize all the Stealth Dragon monsters you can play.

Stealth Dragon Shadowmist 1200/700
"FLIP: During damage calculation only, if this card is in Attack Position: This card gains 1000 ATK. You can only use each of the following effects of "Stealth Dragon Shadowmist" once per turn.
● During either player’s turn, if you control a face-down Attack position monster: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; change that card to face-down Attack Position.
● If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Stealth Dragon" monster: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; return that target to the hand."

This card is the main beater of the deck and helps take care of your opponent's problems.  He is the largest attacker in the deck at 2200 and he also has 2 nasty effects that make running traps in the deck less necessary.  When he's special summoned with Ring King he becomes a CED and due to the wording of his flipping face-down effect he can work like a Book of Moon if he's not only.  This allows for easy removal and decent disruption.  Ironically he would be the first card dropped from the deck in some of the alternative win condition variants of this deck (which due to most of my wording would not actually be any good, but I do always fear creating abusible cards), but in the control deck that this deck is created to be he fits perfectly in his role.

Stealth Dragon Shrowder 1200/700
"FLIP: During damage calculation only, if this card is in Attack Position: This card gains 500 ATK, then "Stealth Dragon" monsters you control, except "Stealth Dragon Shrowder", cannot be destroyed by battle and you take no Battle Damage from battles involving a "Stealth Dragon" monster you control, during this turn. You can only use each of the following effects of "Stealth Dragon Shrowder" once per turn.
● You can change this card to face-down Attack Position.
● If this card is sent to the Graveyard, except from the Deck: You can Special Summon it in face-down Attack Position."

I saved my favorite monster of the archetype for last.  This card is fantastic and plays the last missing role in the archetype as the defensive option.  This set has no worthless monsters and all of them should be played.  This small set forces this and this card is no different.  His flip effect is slightly confusing, but it essentially creates a Waboku effect for your other Stealth Dragon for the turn.  The can't be destroyed by battle effect does not work on himself to avoid stalling abuse with himself, but he essentially allows you to crash your other monster to get their effect without having to take LP damage or the loss of monsters in battle.  He can also prevent OTKs since this deck is a slow and control type of deck not seen in the current game.  He Graveyard effect is quite powerful since he can special summon himself if sent to the Graveyard from anywhere, but Deck (meaning Hand, Field, Xyz Material, Banished) to prevent abuse with Foolish Burial and Lightsworn/Inferoid decks.  This means he works perfectly with Ring King's discard cost and also prevents the disadvantage created with Xyz summoning.  Of course the from field automatically gives him 2 lives per turn (can only revive once per turn) and the from banish zone could be useful if your opponent sided in Macro Cosmos and you were able to get him back to the Graveyard.  This card is the perfect defense card for the deck.

Shadowmist Cover
"Face-down Attack position monsters and "Stealth Dragon" monsters you control are unaffected by your opponent's card effects for the rest of this turn."

This card is fantastic for the set because it is an archetype specific Forbidden Lance that has no penalty of -800 and more importantly covers the ever more powerful monster effects not to mention the fact it takes card of all your monsters and not just one.  Similar to the Evilswarms yet it is unsearchable.  However the draw power and the control power of this deck ensure you should see a copy if you are smart enough to run 3.  This card protects over-extension and saves precious card advantage.  Just an added bonus that it is a Quick-play Spell.

Misdirection
"This card can only be activated if you control a "Stealth Dragon" monster or a face-down Attack position monster. During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a monster you control, or when your opponent targets a monster you control for an attack: You can target 1 face-down Attack position monster or "Stealth Dragon" monster you control that would be an appropriate target; that card/effect/attack now targets the new target."

This card acts as a weaker version of the previous card and would probably be the first card cut from the deck in order to make space, but it covers some important gaps.  This card allows you to pick your opponent's targets and therefore only becomes useful if you have multiple Stealth Dragons.  It also is a Continuous Spell card so it has no surprise effect on the opponent and card be easily removed with MST or other removal forms.  That being said it will essentially prevent your opponent from attacking and/or using targeting effects.  This in turn allows you to protect important card such as Ring King at the expense of regenerating cards like Shrowder.  It does buy time and forces your opponent to use more resources and therefore I still find it to be effective in this type of deck.
537223.jpg
Darkness Accumulates
"Draw 1 card for each face-down Attack position monster you control. You can only activate 1 "Darkness Accumulates" per turn."

This card is the ultimate card to create card advantage.  It is an archetype specific card that rewards commitment to the board and allows you to maintain the card advantage that your opponent will surely be obtaining.  To prevent abusive with Exodia decks and such it is restricted to once per turn and often times it is no more than a Pot of Greed, but this card is what would put this deck in the competitive scene by increasing hand size and opening up options.

Shadow Dragon Assault
"Monsters can attack while in face-down Attack Position. All "Stealth Dragon" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK during damage calculation only."

This final card of the tiny set is the field spell.  Like all the other Spells it is also unsearchable, but this is not that much of a problem for this deck that draws and stalls.  The main disadvantage of being in face-down Attack position is the inability to attack and since this archetype focuses mainly on getting effects from battling that can be an issue.  This card allows the Stealth Dragons to go on the offense and try to activate their effects themselves.  It does slightly harm Shadowmist's effect because he can no longer prevent attacks by flipping your opponent's monsters face-down, but it is a small price to pay to get the deck truly rolling.  The additional 300 attack is also not to be over looked since the Stealth Dragons are typically anywhere from 1500 to 2200 attack and 300 can make a big difference in that points range.  It should also be noted that face-down attack monsters will now be able to attack directly, but since they don't flip from damage calculation they would be treated as having 0 attack and therefore not deal any damage directly.  Still a good field spell to speed the deck along.

And my deck list
[spoiler=Deck List]
Now mind you that this deck list was made before the game became broken and has not been updated to reflect the current game state so there are probably better options than the cards I list here, but for it's time it would have certainly been competitive.

Traps (4):
3 - Fiendish Chain*
1 - Bottomless Trap Hole*

Extra (15):
Generic Rank 3s (Fortune Tune) and Synchro 6s

The deck is great for controlling card advantage and getting through the deck quickly enough to find it's needs.  The deck is versatile and can survive most pushes.  It is also pretty consistent, but it's weakness lie in it weak finishing plays and it's relative reliance on Special Summoning, Searching, and the Graveyard.  Like most deck, Skill Drain and effect negation are it's largest problems, especially when you invest into the field to gain control.  Overall though it can function with few traps which is good into today's current state.  But truly the deck focuses on destroying your opponent's card advantage and creating your own until they simply have nothing left to do because they have exhaust all their resources.  This is best down by protecting Ring King and using Fortune Tune to reshuffle your ammo back into the deck to be used again.
