Event Details

Welcome, ghosts and ghouls, to the YCM Halloween Masquerade 2015!  We know that you've been waiting for this event for a year now, so we've made sure to make it extra enjoyable for every party involved - even the skeletons!  There will be up to twenty monsters - yes, twenty! - this time around, so everyone will have a chance to get in on some spooky action.  After all, it's Hallow's Eve; why not let all the monsters out for a scare?

There will be two events this time around; the regular old tradition of the Monster Hunt that everyone enjoys, and the new event unique to this Hallow's Eve - Monster Duels!

~ The Third Annual YCM Monster Hunt ~

You know the rules of the Monster Hunt, don't you?  Oh, you don't?  Then let me explain!

  • There will be up to 20 different monsters - designated by being part of the Monster member group - wandering and posting around the forum during this Hallow's eve.
  • These monsters aren't actually that spooky at all!  They're real members hiding behind masks.
  • In order to win the YCM Masquerade 2015, you must correctly guess the identity of all of the monsters by the last day of the event.  In the event that no one correctly guesses the identity of every monster, the prize will fall to the players who have either tied for the most right guesses, or the top 3 guessers.

And you - yes, you! - are encouraged to take part in this event as your own creepy alias.  There are a few things you'll need to know before applying, however.

  • In order to become a monster, you must have a minimum of 500 posts.  This can be revoked on a case-by-case basis, but for all intents and purposes, it shouldn't.  This rule was implemented because people are supposed to be able to guess your identity as a monster; if they can't, then how are they going to win?
  • As a monster, you're fully expected to be an active member of the community for the full two weeks of the game.  This means you shouldn't AFK away from the forum for any longer than 5 days.  If you do, your Active Account will receive a 24 hour ban, a warn, and you will be barred from participating in any YCM Halloween events in the future.  That's a big deal for anyone wishing to enjoy this.  It's obvious that this is also on a case by case basis, but if you lack a proper explanation than punishment will be dealt.  It's just how things work.
  • Do not share your identity!  Doing so voids your identity for every player who correctly guessed you beforehand and earns you a warn and a barring from any further events.
  • Monster accounts may not vote in contests.  However, monster accounts may participate in contests.
  • Your monster account will be banned after the event ends.

Important:  We will create your monster account once you PM us with its information.  Don't create the account yourself!  We'll handle that.

~ Trick or Treat Monster Duels ~

A new addition to this year's roster of events is Trick or Treat Monster Duels.  As the name implies, you'll be dueling monsters in order to gain candy, which you can trade in for different prizes.  At the end of the event, if you've beaten every single monster possible in a duel and saved up all of your candy, you can redeem it for a special exclusive prize that designates you as a champion duelist here on YCM.

So, here are a few of the things that both monsters and the players need to know.

  • There will be a maximum of 10 monster duelists.  No more than that, as things can get a little chaotic.
  • You do not have to participate in Trick or Treat Monster Duels in order to take part in the Monster Hunt.  However, you must be taking part in the Monster Hunt in order to be a Monster Duelist.
  • In order to apply to be a Monster Duelist, you must send me something telling me you're participating on your Main Account and your Monster Account.  You must provide a decklist as well; try and keep with the Halloween theme.
  • All Monster Duels will take place on Dueling Network without exception.  This means that a monster will have to make an account to be used on Dueling Network and use that to duel.  Dueling Network Monster accounts should be formatted as such:  !YCMonster_(monster name here)
  • If a monster is defeated, they are to PM me so that I can keep track of who has x amount of candy for prize reasons.
  • Each monster may only be challenged once, and they may only challenge one monster per day.
  • Duels are fought in Singles.  You are not allowed a side deck against a monster.
  • Monsters will be playing theme decks; however, they get a significant buff at the beginning of the duel in order to make up for this and keep them competitive.  Think of it like a boss fight!
  • Monsters get 3 banned cards in their deck, but no more than one copy each.  Nice.

There are several significant prizes you can gain from taking part in this, so don't be shy!

  • Defeating a monster grants you one piece of candy.  These can be saved up for prizes to be distributed at the end of the Halloween event or exchanged for an amount of at least 1000 points each.  The value of these may change based on the number of monster duelists participating in this event.  In order to calculate the amount of points that an individual piece of candy will give you, divide 10,000 by x, where x is equal to the amount of monster duelists.
  • As a monster, losing a duel grants your main account 250 points at the end of the event for each loss and 500 points for each win.  I will keep track of this.
  • If you save up all 10 pieces of candy (amount subject to change based on the number of applicants), you will have the option of getting a secret prize at the end of the event.  If you don't like your secret prize, you can instead cash them all in for 20,000 points.

Event Timeframes

Until this event begins, you'll only need to PM Aix and I with your monster account name choice.  Come the start of the event, we'll create your account and send you the details.  If you decide to take part in Monster Duels, you'll need to PM me your decklist and Dueling Network monster account as well.

So.... We expect 20 monsters, and 10 of them have to also duel?

That's.... Strange.

It is not mandatory for a monster to participate in monster duels.  However, monsters are encouraged to take part - both for the spirit of participation and because that's what is necessary to keep the event going.

Including me, up to 10 monsters will be accepted as monster duelists.
