Well if you want to be at a disadvantage against any other of the actual classes I guess might be able to allow it.

Well, maybe we could take inspiration from some things that aren't necessarily in Fire Emblem. Tell me, do you know what a Hybrid Class is? It's a class capable of filling at least two of the traditional RPG roles, sometimes all three. Usually, they aren't as good in any respect as a more specialized class but they make up for their lack of strength with versatility. In this case, I'm suggesting allowing for the use of a damaging or status inflicting staff and a healing staff at the start. However, those staves would have their power reduced significantly or would simply be of lesser grade than the other staves one might have. In this case, the character in question might well lose access to the highest level staves at the end in exchange for access to a wider variety thereof. Another way to handle it would simply be to make him acquire stronger staves at a much slower rate, and thus require clever use of the weaker ones he has.

On the other hand, his character could start with one type of staff and then acquire the other later on. Just putting out some ideas for a mutually satisfactory solution here. Though I will say, I don't see why it's such an issue to have a healing staff and let him whack people with it. If he focused on being a healer, he wouldn't be as effective with whacking people with the staff. If he focused on whacking people, then his healing would suffer. If he balanced out both, he'd be able to do both but not with the ability of a specialist. That's my perspective on it at least.

I disagree.

And yeah, he can hit people with it, but it'll break much easier. That's the most compromise I'd go for this case.

Of course maybe I'm wrong, am only co-host, but that's how I see it.

[spoiler=Tarizo "Tari" Zin]

Name: Tarizo Zin

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Hometown: Sochen, Galtea

[spoiler=Appearance:]

76f376ec324c8d3b1b1685b4cd76437b.jpg

194 cm and 70 Kg

Doesn't wear high heels in combat, and the left cloak-looking thing is also a quiver for Lilith and her arrows.

[spoiler=Personality]

Not the smartest cook in the kitchen, so to speak. Flat out ignoring books (or any other media of education) has lead to a pure swordfighter, and a girl who doesn't even know how magic works. She isn't illiterate, since she read at early ages. That being said, Tarizo is extremely proficient with a bow, so much so that she bought her own, one that is as good at piercing paper as it is piercing skin. On top of this, Tari isn't one to just run in all guns blazing. She attempts to analyze the enemy, but usually fails miserably, resulting in many close calls in fights. Despite this, Tari's fighting talent has brought all battles to a close with her the victor.

Being a bit of an airhead does have its perks. For example: You are completely oblivious to the real problems of the world, meaning you can live a (mostly) hassle-free life. Not only this, but you follow orders without question, meaning you're great for conducting plans and battle strategies. It also comes with its downsides too. You are completely oblivious to the real problems of the world, meaning you can easily get caught up in large affairs you don't understand. And you follow orders without question, meaning you can easily be used as a distraction or a scapegoat and you wouldn't resist. Tari is very susceptible to all of these things, and it come to no surprise that they happen quite often.

[spoiler=Biography]

Born in Sochen, Galtea. At age 5, when told of the great book-smart mages of her hometown, she proceeded to rip all of the books in her house in half, and vowed to never read another. Tari's parents then decided it would be best if she were moved to the Histean capital of Ithome, where she learned archery and gained her fighting spirit. Life was fairly normal for Tarizo's teenage life, consisting mostly of bow fighting, shredding books and awkward teenage love affairs. Seeing as she was trained for being a mercenary, she only thought it was fitting the she followed through with the job.

As well as the very common hiring missions, usually where she protects merchants traveling across the country, Tari has also been asked to do any of the following: Locate missing people, kill scary bugs, teach how to fight with a bow, and find Nii-San's lost teddy bear. The fees she earns from these tasks pay for her accommodation and food quite well. Every now and again she gets Lilith repaired and gives her a snazzy new look. Tari's most recent job, locating a man thought to be lost on the Sage's Road, proved to be mostly fruitless, until now...

Class: Archer

Fighting Style: Tari isn't a ruthless maniac, and never wants to be, but always tries to get the job done a quick as possible, even if it means slaughtering all the foes in her path. Very swift and athletic.

[spoiler=Stats:]

HP: C

Str: B

Mag: E

Skl: D

Spd: B

Lck: D

Def: C

Res: E

[spoiler=Inventory]

Lilith: Tari's signature bow. Though it may have an elegant name, the only elegant thing about this scimitar is the small white flower at the tip of the wood.

Lilith's Arrows: 12 regular arrows with flowers on the end instead of feathers.

"My Wonderful Diary": A leather diary that, as each day passes, Tari rips a page out of. It's only got about 30 left.

Iron Kneepads: Tari's only two pieces of lower body armour that are far past their time. One good whack from an axe would shatter them in two in no time.

[spoiler=Biography]

WIP

Class: Cleric. Or should I say, "Cleric".

Fighting Style: Well, Tarizo was supposed to be a Cleric, but due to the mishap of events that is her life, she never got actual training. So, she just uses her Iron Staff to bash the everliving s*** out of her enemies, something she seems to be good at.

[spoiler=Stats:]

HP: D

Str: B

Mag: D

Skl: B

Spd: D

Lck: C

Def: E

Res: C

[spoiler=Inventory]

Iron Staff: A mystical staff with amazing curative powers... That Tari can't utilize. Iron makes a pretty good weapon, however. Does bonus damage to Dark Creatures and Dark Magic users.

Priest's Pearl: A shiny little ball Tari snatched from one of her many captors, that is said to give a small bonus while healing. Not that she could test that out...

Bronze Kneepads: Tari's only two pieces of armour that are far past their time. One good whack from... Anything, really, would shatter them in two.

Question: Will Tari need to know Catriona or Penelope, seeing as she's coming in later?

Aez up there is right, you don't need to know them but need a reason you'd end up meeting them. Won't review the character yet cause WIP but I do say the stats are interesting XD

Ok, I'll work on that now. Also gonna change both Str and Mag to C if that's ok, don't want Tari to be bad at healing when she actually can.

Announcement to let you all know the host is back from their unplanned hiatus. Started my new job and the past couple of weeks I've been working overtime. Hopefully that won't continue now that the holidays are over but who knows.

Should be able to really look the IC and OOC over soon though. I'll try and make a post soon as well. Sorry for the long wait, guys. I appreciate you all keeping it alive while I've been gone though. :)

So, Muddy, since you asked for opinions I shall give mine. Please note, though, that as I am not a host or cohost I can't really claim any sort of final say.

As for the appearance, only thing I take issue with is the armored high-heels. They provide no advantage in combat, and would actually be a disadvantage in rough terrain so there's no reason for them. The skirt looks like it's made of armor plates, but I'm not really sure about that.

Personality looks acceptable, but seems a bit bland. I'd personally like to see much more of it. Also there are a few points in it where the wording is a bit awkward and I can't exactly be sure what in the hell you mean about it. "No mission has ever been put in danger of death before..." what does that even mean? I'd suggest reading back through her personality, editing it, and adding in some more since it is fairly short.

Biogaphy is probably the biggest issue. Healing magic comes form the Goddess Inera, the worship of whom is outlawed in Galtea. A Galtean would not reasonably end up as a cleric of Inera, and there aren't any other gods to be clerics of as far as I know. As for the bit about barbarians roving about, that makes the Galtean military out to be highly incompetent, which I am fairly certain they are not. I mean really, who would let hordes of barbarians just roam about inside of their borders? As for being a "personal slave" I'm quite certain slavery is not a thing here, or at the very least not something that Galtea or Histia would allow. The Biography needs to be, in my opinion, entirely re-written. As such, you should also decide on a different place of origin for her.

The fighting style is... weird, but then that was what you were going for I think so there's not much reason to comment.

Oh boy, and now the stats. They're a mess. I really don't have the faintest idea what role she's supposed to fill in the party with them. I know her fighting style is beating people with her staff, but we've got a very real problem with that. Between D's in HP and Speed and an E in Defense, which is the stat that determines how resilient you are to physical damage, there is very little conceivable way she could survive getting up close and personal with an enemy. A stiff breeze could kill her, which would be fine if she was attacking or healing with magic as she wouldn't need to get close to the enemy. Then with only a C in Strength she's going to be doing mediocre damage with her melee attacks. Yes her Iron Staff makes up for that somewhat, but she still has to get up close to the dark magic users to hit them with it. You can't have a melee fighter that is both slow and fragile, they just won't have the chance to get into combat in the first place. I don't really even know what advice to give here, other than to completely re-think how the character works. If you want her to smack people with her staff, make her good at that. B strength, C's in Skill Speed and HP at least, and don't worry about Magic for right now. You'll have the opportunity to grow her as a healer through the game. If you want to be a healer from the start, then put B's in Magic and Speed, and C's in Defense Resistance and HP. Strength and Skill won't be all that important, considering you don't need to hit with healing magic... I think. Maybe put a C in Skill instead of HP just to be safe.

[spoiler=Tarizo "Tari" Zin]

"Down on health and need some help? Tarizo the Cleric is here to help! Though I can't exactly HEAL..."

Name: Tarizo Zin

Age: 29

Gender: Female

Hometown: Sochen, Galtea

[spoiler=Appearance:]

76f376ec324c8d3b1b1685b4cd76437b.jpg

194 cm and 70 Kg

[spoiler=Personality]

Tarizo considers herself, in a nutshell, to be a people person. Good at communicating, helping, and being friendly to others, which, surprise surprise, is her job! Her goodwill and helpfulness has gotten her out of many sticky situations with bandits, but her honesty and kindness seems to get her into and equal amount, if not more. That doesn't means she's all sunshine and lollipops, though. Serious time call for serious moods, something Tari has great control over. Being able to switch from playful little girl to miss mature in an instant has its uses.

Tari also likes to consider herself an optimist, something that has made her a surefire choice for hire when those in need of help call on someone. No mission has ever been put in danger of death before, partially due to the girl's high spirits that reassure that everyone in the situation will leave unharmed. When in normal conversation, Tari is oftentimes immature, and when discussing her Clerical abilities, quickly becomes very embarrassed.

[spoiler=Biography]

From the day she was born, Tari's fate was decided. She would become a Cleric at age 18 and remain in Sochen, spending every day of her life praying and communicating with those in the heavens. Unfortunately for the poor girl, barbarians aren't into that kinda stuff. They prefer rampaging about, kidnapping the finest women and just being all-around a-holes. It seemed like every other day from the time Tarizo was 16 she was getting robbed or kidnapped. She was such a common "customer" that eventually, on the road, she would just approach barbarians and hand them her stuff. Everything except her Iron Staff, something the barbarians always agreed never to snatch, for some reason.

The shame of being kidnapped early on in her life made her never return home, and as a result meant she never learned the ways of Clerical powers. Then, as a result of that, the poor girl roams the Galtea-Histia border to help make a living after no longer becoming a prime target for the savages. Anyone she speaks to about her job calls her a personal slave, but she insists on "general aid". For small fees she assists men and women with things they need help with. Help carrying things from one town to another, knowing where to go to avoid bandits, etc. She's practically a mercenary, but without the fighting, something people seem to prefer over unneeded bloodshed.

[spoiler=Stats:]

Bronze Kneepads: Tari's only two pieces of armour that are far past their time. One good whack from... Anything, really, would shatter them in two.

Mkay the armor is really out of place, especially given her defense and class. So that could be fixed up with manual description. She doesn't quite look 29 but this IS still based off a video game and we all know what that means...but it's a bit odd.

Nothing great with personality but nothing wrong, except it disturbs me to imagine a 29 year old woman acting like a "playful little girl"

Yeah the Goddess is considered evil for most people so her being that young and going down that path would've meant a lot of stigma against her, if she was even allowed to. She'd have to had some kind of reason to become a Cleric if that's where she's from. Also hell no Sochen wouldn't be that often attacked by bandits, it holds the strongest sages of Galtea, they'd tear any bandits to shreds. Also if she was kidnapped so often how'd she escape? Also that'd leave some scars, especially bandits being...bandits.

Her stats are wonky. At the time of reading it's

HP: D

Str: C

Mag: C

Skl: C

Spd: D

Lck: B

Def: E

Res: C

Which basically means she can barely do anything against most foes. She's slow and overall frail, and doesn't do much damage,well.. she does okay damage but that's basically it.  If that's what you want, fine, but just be warned she's gonna be pretty weak and really in danger for a long time.

Iron Staff doing bonus damage to dark things is something I'm unsure of and will have to discuss with Sethera.

Sethera would have to look over it too but so far there's some issues.

New rule: Nobody is allowed to kill off my enemies. I'm gonna take a leaf from the gijinka RP for this. CowCow and I will decide if your attack killed them or even hit them. Sometimes there will be enemies where it's okay to do that, and I will also keep your power levels and the enemies' power levels in mind for this stuff. You can also run an attack by one of us first. Also, try to use common sense. If an enemy is at full health, then it's less likely that your attack would oneshot them.

I might make an OOC status post with the conditions of the enemies and stuff so you won't have to wait till the plot post to see if your attack hit or not (and this will help you build off of each other's posts). Probably won't do it for this battle but after this will do so.

Also, this rule isn't directed at anybody in particular, so don't worry about that. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, to be honest.

As a bit of a treat for myself, I decided to try actually making this game. With the help of resources from Jubby, fuzz94, and Lisandra Brave (via the Serenes Forest FEditor Animations thread), I have a working (if hideous) prototype.

[spoiler=Some screenshots]

I don't have the skill, resources, or time to replace the unit portraits, so just ignore those :'o

CotG2.png

The Cursed Princess. She's as good a unit as any, and her potential is pretty high. I'd need to go out of my way to level her or anyone else up, though. There's so many allied units, and so few units that can oneshot enemies, that EXP management would be a pain.

CotG1.png

I was going to use an animation from Serenes Forest for Alois, but I forgot to put it in and I was too lazy to fix it, so enjoy Alois's steroid-abusing cousin standing sideways in midair.

CotG3.png

The map. Penelope was one of the less useful units; her poor offensive stats meant she couldn't kill anyone that wasn't heavily weakened first. She's still useful for now, but I doubt I would use her long-term unless some of her stats got a boost. By the way, Katarina was actually the stronger of her weapons, even against these physical units. The Wind tome did even less.

CotG6.png

Then again, that's not saying much, seeing as the Wind tome is the weakest weapon in the game. (I got the stats from Path of Radiance, so don't blame me :P)

CotG4.png

Oh look, it's my character! As I suspected, she can't dodge things, but she's more useful than I expected, since she always has the freedom to attack enemies from where they can't fight back. If she were out in the open during the enemy phase, though, she'd be dead.

CotG5.png

I don't think it's physically possible to save the merchant.

CotG9.png

Asura is one of the better units in the party even armed with an Iron Sword...

CotG8.png

...but armed with a Killing Edge he blows everyone else out of the water.

Observations:

  • Saving the merchant seems to be impossible. Almost every enemy on the map is in range of the merchant, and they all prioritize him as a target, so the only way to save the merchant would be to kill every enemy on the map in one turn. Which is impossible. So I guess it makes sense the merchant died in our run; he was screwed no matter what we did.
  • Asura's Killing Edge is stupidly powerful; with it, he can kill anyone on the map in one round of combat. Besides that, everyone's surprisingly balanced, though some (Catriona, Meifing) are still more useful than others (Penelope, Edrick on a map full of axes).
  • Penelope can only kill enemies who are already pretty badly weakened, and she can only do so with Katarina.
  • Only Asura can reliably dodge attacks. Everyone else is in danger of getting hit. Thanks to Feray and Meifing, though, not many people actually DO get hit - it's usually possible to defeat enemies without letting them fight back.
  • Except for the reinforcements, I was able to kill every unit on the map by turn two. Pretty much every enemy goes down in two hits (unless Asura is involved; he can oneshot anyone with his Killing Edge, even the boss if he's lucky).

Obviously nothing in there has any bearing on the roleplay; I just tried it as a fun experiment (and an excuse to stay in practice hacking Fire Emblem games). But I thought it was fun, and I figured I may as well share it with everybody. Hopefully this makes up somewhat for my late post :u

I like this. I like this a lot. Tbh I considered going this route for the sprites and maps while using said program but certain factors (not owning a PC but a Mac, going off of Awakening for the classes more) kept me from doing so.

And yeah, definitely chuckled when I made the original map. The merchant would've been dead no matter which way you sliced it if it worked exactly like the game.

Rescue staff. Unless it doesn't work on Green units.

Also I love that Penelope is the weakest. I told y'all she was the weakest unit XD

How was Gunther doing btw? What kind of damage did he take?

The maps you're using are certainly higher resolution, which is more convenient for looking at them at a glance. Plus the unit sprites are much more differentiated, and thus cooler.

Bloody hell, you're right. Didn't even think of that. Malu handed that one to us and we just screwed it up. ewo;; (Not sure if that actually works off the top of my head, but it'd be something.)

Honestly, the way I played, Gunther never took a scratch. For the most part, I would soften up enemies from a distance and finish them off with close-range fighters. Catriona took damage pretty often, since I used her to soften up enemies and she can't quite dodge reliably, but Gunther didn't suffer much. (I just had Malu'kai heal up Catriona anyway, so the party emerged more or less unscathed.) I think I mostly used him against the enemy archers. (It helps that on the first enemy phase, the enemies are too busy attacking the merchant to bother with PCs.) For the record, I think a normal brigand would have done six damage to him per hit (and they don't double-attack him despite his awful Speed), and I gave him 22 HP to start with. Not sure if that means anything. :u

[spoiler=A few more screenshots from the thing:]

CotG%20Alois.png

Mageknight404's custom fighter animation fits Alois's scrawny build much better, though it does have sleeves, so I'm not sure whether it's more or less accurate.

CotG%20Saving%20the%20Merchant.png

It is possible to save the merchant, but it's surprisingly hard to do so. The trouble is, if you don't wipe out all three of the brigands in the west and set Malu'kai far enough back that the closest bandit to the east can't reach, then whatever bandits are left will kill either the merchant or Malu'kai. But if you wipe out all the brigands in the west, that means you don't have enough forces left to deal with the archers or the boss. The formation above is the best I've found; it works about 2/3 of the time, but even then Anais has a distressingly high chance of dying - she can't dodge the archers, so if the boss hits her, she's done for.

CotG%20Anais.png

Speaking of, here's Anais. I tried to make sure Aurore was level-appropriate. It worked, but the trouble is, Asura's Killing Edge is not level-appropriate, so because of that he's much better than she is. Ah, well. She can still kick ass if she crits, as seen above.

Also, does Elfire set people on fire or not? I was assuming that it did, but everyone else seems to just ignore me when I (attempt to) set enemies on fire. :/
