"Yer lily-white skin is soon gonna be dripping red with blood,"

"Try me, you dastards!"

While going around and healing people as necessary, Ciela attracted the attention of several of the barbarians. One of them swung his axe towards her and Remy's direction, but before it could hit either of them, Fate decided something else, and an arrow landed on on him in a way that caused him to teeter off balance so that the swing was a lot easier to dodge. For good measure, Ciela had Remy kick and stomp on him for a bit to make a point afterwards. Another bandit soon attacked her, but he also fell to the ground due to a sudden arrow. It truly was divine providence. Another one attempted to do the same until he took an arrow to the knee. Again and again Ciela made her point by kicking and stomping on the fallen bandits whenever possible.

"If you want to get a taste of me, come here and catch me!"

At this point she realized that she was tempting fate, and now had decided to retreat, after the immediate threats to her had been disabled (whether they got killed by Remy or not remained unclear). Ciela decided to run towards the princesses again, only to find Link in the middle of a brutal brawl, and two axemen going towards Catriona and Penelope's position. Unsure on what she should do for the time being, Ciela decided to inch herself closer to Link and cast a healing spell on him as he continued to beat the lancer senseless.

Sienna watched over her unconscious father, thoughts racing through her head about all that was going on. She looked around and realized that most if not everyone had left to deal with some weird commotion outside the village. Frankly, Sienna was done fighting, she was exhausted both mentally and physically.

One of the thoughts going through her mind was whether or not she was going to stay with the group after everything was said and done. When peace was finally made with the frogs, her tribe would need help fixing everything up. She also needed to make up with her father, even if he wasn't himself, she didn't like that she had attacked him. Her mother would freak out if she saw what happened.

Sienna shook herself to her senses and looked over the village. She would have to come to a decision sooner later. "*sigh* Was it even smart traveling? I could've helped my tribe if I stayed..." she mumbled to herself.

"You're really starting to bug me. And you won't like me when I get bugged."

"I don't like you right now either," Azar retorted, as Binks swung with his axe. Azar stepped back, but not quite back enough. She'd been hit, and while the axe had only clipped her, it clipped her pretty good, clear across the abdomen. It stung and pulsed with pain, as one might expect of an axe wound, but it wasn't stopping her from standing or fighting. "Look at that, you hit something. Keep trying and you might be able to actually kill somebody." Mocking comments aside, Azar didn't particularly want to get hit by that axe again. Binks seemed stupid, but he was definitely not weak.

Which was why Azar aimed an attack at his face again. Hit the face enough and he'd have a hard time seeing, and you can't hit what you can't see.

Well this guy was a lot more mobile than he looked, swinging that enormous axe around. Edrick had at least hoped that he would have an opportunity to strike him after his attack, but this Binks fellow was faster than he'd expected. If nothing else he, at least so far, had been doing a decent job of keeping him distracted from the others. He hadn't even realised that Alois had intentionally thrown an axe at him. Though with Azar getting into the fray that was becoming more difficult.

"You're really starting to bug me. And you won't like me when I get bugged." It almost sounded like a line from a surprisingly violent story for Children, not that Edrick could place it anywhere. All the same, the big man swung his axe and an idea so insane it just might work came to the Pontic boy's mind. So it was that he rushed forward, holding his spear in one hand as he sought to get inside of the Bandit's swing and maybe actually draw some blood. This was either going to work, or he was going to have an axe in his side.

"Azar! Back off and-" was he really about to say it? "Blast him with magic." Yes, yes he was. As much as he hated it, that magic was probably the biggest advantage they had in this fight. The still itching scar on his back was proof enough of that. That and Catriona, who he was certain was chosen by Inera to fulfill some purpose, had decided to allow her in their company. Though her ways were blasphemous, they could be put to use in the service of the faithful. Edrick was not even sure he was convincing himself with that. Though right now he did have bigger problems to deal with.

Nearby, Shiro would soon find himself coincidentally back to back with Leonardo, the frog who thought he was a turtle, facing a multitude of enemies. "I think these guys need a beatdown, don't you?" he asked the blue frog, before diving at the nearest bandit with his twin swords. Shiro didn't say too much to him, since he never knew how to talk to him. Like, Leonardo had to be in denial, right? There was no way he believed he was actually a turtle, right...?

Finally, he decided to just answer him. "Yeah, let's do it," He spun around, using his legs to try to kick away some of the bandits. He couldn't believe there could be so many bandits. "Leo," Shiro commented as he rolled on his back. Leonardo nodded, leaping up and landing on Shiro's foot. The blue frog launched a kick, sending Leo flying through the air, who started to spin, barreling through a group of bandits.

Shiro then sat up, looking around. Something then caught his eye... Glenn was about to be attacked! He took a giant leap, sailing over the heads of the enemy, landing by the group. Thankfully, the one known as Gunther protected Glenn from attack. Shiro just got into position, attacking anyone who got near. They could do this... they could do this!

Thanks to Shiro and Leonardo's combo attack, most of the bandits surrounding them had passed out. The heavy power of their kicks and barrel rolls were enough to knock them unconscious, if not break a few bones. While frog Proteans lacked the tearing power of the foxes' fangs, their strength was not to be underestimated. The blue frog, seeing Glenn about to be attacked, leapt over to land beside his friend and the knight next to him.

Gunther had put himself between the barbarian and Glenn without thinking, his armor denting underneath the blow of the enemy's axe. Breathing heavily Gunther looked over to Glenn. "A-are you alright?" He asked shakily.

"Within...this wall of flesh, my soul counts thee its creditor," the frog gasped out, obviously still recovering from before. "And I am fine, my good fellow. Ah, Shiro, much pleased am I to seeth thee," he spoke the last sentence after noticing the blue frog's arrival, attacking the nearby enemies. "And now..." he puffed as he placed a hand on the handle of his sword. "'Tis timeth f'r myself to square off 'gainst these cretins!" And with that, he dove into the fray with mad abandon, receiving a few wounds but giving more than he got in return.

Gunther would find another barbarian, a fighter, and a lancer stepping up to fill the gap Glenn left. Shiro would be similarly beset by a couple fighters and a mercenary.

Aka, still recovering, took that moment to dab a vulnerary on her wounds before moving to aid Shiro, "Shiro!" she cried, "I am glad to see you well."

Leonardo would similarly jump in in between Gunther and his foes. "Dude, these guys look pretty snarly. Want help?"

--

"Sorry, won't happen again."

At the same time, Binks shook his head as he heard an apology from what he thought to be one of his fellow bandits. "Bone must've recruited him," he grumbled as he kept on with his swing, managing to clip the annoying shaman clear across the abdomen.

"Look at that, you hit something. Keep trying and you might be able to actually kill somebody."

"Why, you--" the bite of a hand axe between his shoulder blades cut off the man's words, the Flux punch to the face knocking him back a couple steps, and the stab of a spear in his gut causing him to cough up blood. "I'm going to kill you!" he shouted.

"Azar! Back off and-" a pause, "Blast him with magic."

"Oh, no you don't," the warrior growled, starting to swing his axe wildly every which way. Once either they had gotten hit or they had gotten clear, the man did an about-face, took out his bow, and shot an arrow right at the inept fighter who kept missing his aim. He didn't have time to deal with an incompetent ally on top of these enemies in front of him.

Meanwhile, a ways apart, Tsetseg had replied to Hange's question with gusto. "Oh, well, the fluffy-tail fox village was super fun! Until it wasn't. We got to eat with them and went into a cool shrine and we learned a lot about foxes and then a frog came over and then they wanted to kill him but the rest of us were like "no don't kill the croaky guy" so they wanted to kill us but then we talked to them and then they didn't and now we're here! It's been a fun stay for sure!"

"What," Erwin responded flatly as he drove his sword through a nearby bandit's neck. "That makes...no sense. But I'm glad to see you're unharmed, Tsetseg," he added.

"What are you talking about? I understood that just fine! No fair, I can't believe you got to be surrounded by fluffy tails like that. Oh, I would kill for such an experience." The whole "wanted to kill us" part seemed to have gone right over Hange's head.

"The two of you are strange creatures," the cavalier shook his head before noticing a girl surrounded by bandits.

"Try me, you dastards!"

After seeing a familiar blue-haired girl, Tsetseg shot arrows at a few of the bandits surrounding the girl, more specifically their legs, hitting two in the back of the thigh and one in the back of the knee. Ciela and Remy took advantage of that by stomping on the bandits that fell, though neither of the two seemed to notice who actually shot the bandits.

"If you want to get a taste of me, come here and catch me!" Realizing discretion might be the better part of valor, Ciela decided to flee. A couple bandits attempted to give chase, but were quickly left behind in her dust. The rest turned, scowling, toward Tsetseg.

"That wasn't very nice," one of them sneered, as he lifted a sword to point it at the girl.

"Aye, methinks we should punish you," another said.

"Over. My. Dead body," a familiar voice growled. This man, while also a warrior like Binks, used a different sort of axe, one that flickered with hellfire. "You want to attack one of my patrolmen? Then you may as well attack me."

Before the brigands could do more than gulp, he had beheaded most of them with a fiery swing, the flames cauterizing the wounds almost instantly. The remaining suddenly found other places to be, retreating in a mad scramble.

The man turned toward Tsetseg, revealing himself as Urvan. "Are you all right?" he rumbled in concern, looking over the girl for injuries. Finding little, he sighed. "I'm glad. I was...really worried. I should've guarded you all better, and because of that..."

Hange looked up at him sympathetically. "Hey, we all should've been paying more attention."

Erwin shook his head. "I'm sorry to cut the reunion short, but we have company."

More bandits had appeared. The group looked at each other before diving into the fray once more.

--

Ciela galloped toward the princesses only to find the group in the middle of a brutal brawl. The girl decided to inch closer to Link to cast a healing spell on him.

Penelope was busy thinking. "There are probably many more of them being fought...We need to stop these foes here and send reinforcements to the others. Catriona, you can handle those two, yes?" She gestured to the fighter and barbarian.

Catriona nodded, her vision narrowing in on the two headed toward them, barely noticing her allies' actions. It was a distant sort of acknowledgment she felt, that they were fine and did not need her aid. Her attention was all on the two in front of her.

"Heheh, jus' come wid us, girlie, we'll treat ye right noice."

Ignoring his gap-toothed grin, the woman rushed forward with a speed that surprised both of the bandits. Disposing of the fighter with a stab to the throat, she wiped her blade absentmindedly on his clothes as he fell. The other's face was a sight to see, contorting with shock, and then rage, he charged forward with a howl.

Catriona stepped to the side, ducking her head to avoid his swing, stopping short as she realized his target was not her, but in fact, her sister. She chased after him as he ran toward the girl, taking a wild swing at the back of his knees to hopefully cause him to fall. Just barely managing to score a hit, she took advantage of his staggered steps to catch up and stab him in the back, panting as she watched him fall. The lord then took a moment to survey her surroundings.

The lancer was currently gripping a broken nose, a bow thief dead on the ground beside him. The man recovered quickly enough to sneer at Link and charge forward with a yell, before suddenly switching tactics and moving past him toward Ciela, who had just finished casting a healing spell on the blond.

Meanwhile, the enemy mercenary, seeing no reaction from the fox lady, shrugged and attempted to whack her upside the head with the pommel of his sword. He didn't want to get blood on her nice white fur. Not only would that be a jabroni to clean off, but it would also bring her price down at the auction. With all luck, this blow would knock her out and he could then concentrate on the sounds of fighting behind him, as well as that growling noise coming from the base of the stairs.

OOC: Binks is finally starting to feel the hurt, but he won't be taken down this round either. The bandit numbers are finally starting to thin as well.

As Tsetseg had managed to clear a path for the blue haired girl, she watched as the girl galloped away from the conflict. Feeling successful at a job well done, this was cut a bit short as the bandits turned their attention towards her.  Readying her bow to fire against them, the girl started to back off when her ears perked up at the familiar voice calling out to the bandits. A smile crossed her face as the warrior had come to fight the bandits, single handedly cleaving through the ones that were moving to threaten the young archer, before turning back to her. "Urvan!" The girl shouted out. Rushing towards the man, greeting him with a cheery hug, as he had seemed to be worried, Tsetseg said, "it's ok Urvan. I had a really fun time so it all worked out!"  As more bandits had begun to converge on their position, the archer let go of Urvan readying her bow to fight. As the rest of the patrol charged in, Tsetseg once again provided covering fire against for the patrol, her arrows striking true against the bandits.

Alois's smirk did not leave his face as his axe found purchase in Binks' back, catching the axe on its return trip back to him. As the onslaught of attacks had managed to pressure Binks, both fist and spear finding their mark, the man seemed to go into a wild frenzy. While he was swinging at both Azar and Edrick, Alois found it hard to get a clear shot on the man. However, as he swapped to a bow, it soon became apparent to the fighter that he was the next target. With a quick snap of the wrist, the boy tossed his hand axe towards the legs of Binks, though in the process found it hard to dodge the incoming arrow. Trying to move away, the boy still took the arrow to his side, grimacing and grunting in pain as the the attack had found its mark. "funk, that hurts." The boy muttered to himself, awaiting the return of his hand axe and watching to see how his other two allies would deal with the man.

Gunther wondered if he could ever have as flowery speech as Glenn. Though the other knights didn't really speak like that...he couldn't help but wonder where the Frog had picked it up.

In any case it looked as though Glenn was...more than alright. One could say TOO alright as he immediately dove into battle. With a sigh Gunther began to step forward to try and stay near the wounded warrior's side...but that would have to wait.

Three more bandits appeared. Two with axes. The Knight gulped as he eyed them.

"Dude, these guys look pretty snarly. Want help?"

Gunther began to wonder if all Frogs spoke strangely. He wanted to say yes. He was going to say yes...but he had to be strong. If these bandits were too much for him he'd never be able to help the princesses. "I will be fine, but thank you. Your comrade, Sir Glenn, only recently woke from unconsciousness. He may need a hand."

The Lancer came in first, with the other two splitting off to circle around the Knight. He would prefer to keep his attention on the two of them. However with the Lancer charging him straight away he couldn't exactly look away. He raised his shield as the Lancer attacked. With a thrusting and swinging motion Gunther knocked the tip of the lance aside and swung his own lance down. The shaft of it striking the Lancer in the shoulder and driving him down to a knee.

The two axe users were closing in so Gunther thrust his weapon into the downed bandit in an attempt to finish him off so he could defend from the two.

They managed to reach him before he could pull back and swung their axes. Thankfully the blows hit him in the shoulder and back. Both areas protected by armor. However he was starting to feel the damage pile on.

With a grunt he swung both his lance and shield out, pushing back the two axe users.

A bit panicked, Gunther turned towards the one who had struck him in the shoulder and charged forward. He rammed his shield into the man's face and pushed him farther back.

As the other came up again, intending to strike him once more, Gunther turned around as abruptly as he could in such heavy armor and bashed the man with the side of his weapon. The wood struck the man in the arm and Gunther heard the noise of a bone snapping.

He was frightened, being surrounded like this, but...it was also oddly exhilarating to be able to fight so freely.

Aha! It was going splendidly! Link was much more agile than Penelope would have given him credit for, due to his health, and it seemed as though the man would be able to handle more than his share of the fight. "Good job, Link!" Penelope called out.

She only just noticed the bandit that was charging past her sister and towards her. Penelope's grip on her tome tightened as she stumbled back, unprepared for a counter attack.

Thankfully it seemed that Catriona was fast enough to fell him before he was able to strike. "Ah, yes, see? Everything according to plan." Penelope said. Her eyes then turned towards Sienna. She had left the girl to deal with her attacker, thinking that a Protean would be more than enough for a single opponent.

Only it seemed she misjudged how out of it the girl really was. The Tactician aimed a Wind spell at the Mercenary's back. She wasn't sure if it was fast enough to reach the man before his attack but hopefully it would give Sienna the time she would need to transform and defend herself.

[spoiler=OOC]Giving Wind Rider a chance to go ham with Sienna, didn't want to steal her one opponent, hence the vague nature of the attack. You can decide how it plays out in your post, WR

Link was bathed in warmth, and the remnants of the wound on his side stitched together even more. He was back at almost top form thanks to Ciela’s healing magic; he would have to swallow his pride and give her the thanks she deserved after the battle. The lancer he was fighting reared back and charged one last time. Link raised his sword and prepared to dispatch him, but the man caught him by surprise when he rocketed toward Ciela instead.

The Galtean soldier acted swiftly. He pivoted on his heel with his sword already in motion, plunging the blade into the soft area behind the man’s shoulder blade. It pierced and came out the other side, causing a splatter of blood to land on Ciela. The bandit choked, sputtered, and then fell to the ground dead.

Link pulled his sword free and nodded at the mounted healer. His expression was distant and his eyes looked right through her. His tunic was stained with his own dried blood mingled with the fresh blood of the bandits, and his sword was covered in gore. He turned away from her and headed over to check on Princess Catriona and Penelope.

Focus. Focus. Focus.

"And I am fine, my good fellow. Ah, Shiro, much pleased am I to seeth thee," Glenn greeted Shiro after assuring the man in armor he was alright. "And now..." he puffed as he placed a hand on the handle of his sword. "'Tis timeth f'r myself to square off 'gainst these cretins!" And with that, he dove into the fray with mad abandon, causing Shiro to shake his head.

"Glad to see you're okay Glenn," he commented before realizing that he was being beset by a couple fighters and a mercenary.

He employed a slight hit and run tactic, bounding forward to attack a person before leaping out of their range. One wrong move could get him seriously injured....

"Shiro!" Aka cried, "I am glad to see you well." Shiro looked over to her, nodding.

"Glad we made it in time to help," He noted that she was really only able to quickly patch herself up... She probably needed more rest. "Thanks for fighting so hard to protect Glenn. Let Glenn and I repay the favor by protecting you so you can rest," he said as he took a quick hop forward, nailing a fighter under his chin with his foot before hopping back away from them.

Leonardo would similarly jump in in between Gunther and his foes. "Dude, these guys look pretty snarly. Want help?"

"Leo, talk like a normal person, you're scaring the city folk," Shiro half joked as he continued the assault on the finally thinning bandit numbers. They were doing this, they were driving them off!

On the one hand, Edrick had succeeded at actually managing to injure this remarkably slippery bastard. The spear driven into this leader of the bandits' gut was a good start, and if the man couldn't get some healing within the next few hours he would probably bleed to death. Even if they all died now, they had cut the head off the snake so to speak. On that hand though, Edrick had just been thrown several feet by an axe-blow to his side. It didn't hurt, not yet anyways, but breathing was harder and a cursory touch under his arm revealed a warm, wet spot in his gambeson. So all in all, he was not doing that much better. All the same, he managed to force himself back to his feet. Just in time, in fact, to see Alois taking an arrow from the bandit. If there was ever a time to start ignoring breathing issues, now was it. Thankfully, Binks's attention wasn't on the Pontic.

So he grasped his spear firmly in both hands and held it above his head, before charging straight at the Bandit. The hope was that between his momentary distraction with Alois and the noise of the battle around them, Binks wouldn't notice until he had driven that spear through him. And that was the intention: to completely impale the bandit on his Iron Lance and drive its head into the ground to at least pin the bastard in place for a few moments.

"Azar! Back off and blast him with magic."

"I am blasting him with magic!"

"Oh, no you don't." And then the bandit began swinging his axe wildly, forcing the shaman to back off, lest she wanted to get sliced up by that thing. Seeing as she would've preferred not to get hit again, Azar backed off, stepping clear of the bandit's fury. THen, he turned toward Alois, and fired off an arrow in the boy's direction. Azar was a bit surprised the bandit leader had the skill needed to even fire a bow, let alone actually hit his mark. And Edrick was charging at the leader once again. Now felt like a good time to blast the bandit with magic but from a distance.

Azar whipped out the good ol' tome, pointing her arms in Binks's general direction. "Flux!" Luckily, she had a pretty big target that seemed to be pretty slow, so as long as she wasn't picky about where she aimed on Binks, hitting him would be pretty easy, right?

Aka smiled at Shiro's kind words, before her face firmed in determination. "I'm sorry, Shiro, but I cannot rest while you fight. That would make me a failure of a frog Protean, and a...friend," she paused before the last word, as if she had wanted to say something else instead. The frog threw herself into the fighting, face red, her kicks stronger than before as she concentrated wholly on the fight.

Leonardo shrugged at Gunther's answer, before fighting alongside his fellow Proteans. The man looked to be handling the axe users well enough for a knight. He grinned when Shiro told him to talk like a normal person. "Nah, that's just my personal brand of Leonardo!" he replied as he kicked in a fighter's nose.

Meanwhile, Urvan smiled and patted the bow thief on the head as she gave him a hug. Still, the smile looked pained, and it was apparent that the warrior still felt guilty for everything that had happened to her recently. That smile changed into a terrifying look of rage at seeing more bandits, and the group seemed the very picture of carnage as they fought, until eventually the bandits started to steer clear of them.

"Well, that's no fun," Hange pouted, one hand on their hip. "You know, I haven't gotten any further in my experiments with dark magic's effect on accelerating the putrefaction of existing wounds. Theoretically, as the supposed opposite of healing magic, one would think that it would have such an effect, but I haven't been able to confirm or deny, without enough data. And these bandits don't last long enough to prove my theory, and now," they threw their hands into the air, "Now they're running away! What a bunch of cowards!"

"Your priorities never fail to amaze me," Erwin said, shaking his head.

"Shush," Urvan said, eyes scanning the battlefield. "Talk like this invites an attack."

"Isn't that what we want?"

The warrior ignored them as he looked around. "Something about this doesn't sit right with me."

"What do you mean?"

"Look, they're all converging on a single point."

And he was right. The thinning number of bandits had cleared the battlefield enough that a good many could see their leader getting attacked. While there was a good-sized clump near Shiro and Gunther, the majority of them had gathered around their leader and the people fighting him.

Binks scowled at seeing his wild swings had only hit one of the two attacking him, but he was gratified to see his arrow had found its mark in that annoying fighter. Hopefully the boy would learn to have better aim in the future. Or not. Expecting it this time, the warrior evaded the whirling projectile with ease, batting it to the ground with his own axe. There. That would stop the boy from accidentally hitting anybody for the moment. Turning his attention back to the other two, his mouth formed an O of surprise at the young lancer charging toward him, lance held overhead. While he saw in time to avoid getting completely speared, the point of the spear went through his side and toward the ground. Roaring in pain, the man grabbed the handle and started to pull.

Leaving him wide open for the Flux attack that splashed on his collarbone. Choking back a scream, the warrior glared at the current banes of his existence as he lifted his axe and attempted to smash it down on the lancer's head. "Time to squash you, little bug," he grunted.

Meanwhile, a nearby barbarian swung his axe at Azar. Another went for Alois, realizing he wasn't actually a fellow brigand. The trio's attacks on Binks had finally drawn the attention of the bandits.

Catriona turned to Link and, seeing that he looked fine, nodded briefly to him. He was covered in blood, but as there were no open wounds, it probably belonged to his foes. Ciela looked fine as well. Good. Hopefully they would all get out of this with minimal injury.

"Ah, yes, see? Everything according to plan."

The lord shot her sister a blank look. "He almost attacked you." Still, she found herself distracted by the sight of Sienna and her assailant.

While the mercenary's aim had been interrupted by the tactician's Wind spell, he recovered quickly enough to try once more, this time succeeding. He lifted the girl's head up without bothering to see if that knocked her out and held his blade to her throat. "Nobody move, or she gets it!" he shouted. "If'n you know what's good for you, then you'll drop all your weapons and behave like good little captives."

OOC: Binks isn't down yet, but he's getting there. However, the other bandits are starting to focus on the trio, while Gunther and Shiro still have bandits to deal with themselves. Tsetseg is currently free to attack either group, and Urvan and co. will probably attack whoever she does. Meanwhile, back at the village, the mercenary is using Sienna as a hostage to force the others to surrender.

Sienna's mind was so clouded over current events and was unaware of everything that was taking place around her. She thought she heard a wind spell hit close to her and looked up in time to catch a sword pommel whacking her on the head. She fell to the ground limp and was barely conscious, she couldn't tell what was happening. She felt herself get lifted up and felt cold steel touching her neck.

She heard a man's words yell out around her. "Nobody move, or she gets it!" he shouted. "If'n you know what's good for you, then you'll drop all your weapons and behave like good little captives."

She was too disoriented to understand her situation, only that she was in some kind of trouble and was unable to do anything about it. Her life was in her allies hands now, whatever happened next would decide her fate.

Link didn’t even wait until the bandit had finished with his command before he snatched the broken shield off his back and launched it at him. It spun through the air end-over-end, whistling, a blur of silver and purple as it flew toward his target. The man swore and was forced to let go of Sienna momentarily as he swerved out of the way of the projectile, and the Protean collapsed to the ground in a disoriented heap.

The bandit went through a range of emotions, starting with shock that someone had risked attacking him, and ending with anger because someone had attacked him. Link was already bounding up the staircase toward him, taking the steps two at a time with his sword in hand.

“Penelope!” he bellowed in an uncharacteristically powerful voice. It was obvious that he wanted the Princess to prevent the man from snatching Sienna back up before the Galtean could reach him.

He wouldn’t let anyone die. Not this time.

Gunther winced as another axe managed to find purchase. Striking him in the side and very nearly getting through a less protected portion of his body. He retaliated by shoving the shaft of his lance into the man's face and breaking his nose.

Stumbling back Gunther thrust his lance into the man as he grasped at his face. As he turned towards the other axe user he found that the man had decided to leave. Which led Gunther to realize that there was a large group converging around the bandit's leader. Or, rather, converging around Edrick, Azar, and Alois.

He turned to approach but out of the corner of his eye he saw several more bandits nearby.

His breathing heavier than at the start he made his way towards that group. "Come try me!" He shouted in mock-confidence. He knew he couldn't keep up the pace for much longer but if he could manage to draw a few of them away from the others he could at least help in that way.

"He almost attacked you."

"Yes, but he did not." Penelope replied with a cheeky smile. The banter had to end there, however, as Sienna was taken hostage by the bandit that Penelope had tried to save her from.

Penelope was prepared with several fascinating tidbits about hostage situations but it seemed that Link was wasting no time. In a rather odd maneuver he launched his shield at the bandit. Who then dropped Sienna as he was momentarily caught off guard by the attack. "Did Link read the stories of Captain Galtea as well?" Penelope wondered.

Looking at the speed that Link moved and the bandit's proximity to Sienna she knew that it would not be enough to stop the man on its own. So she, while moving towards the pair, began firing off Wind spells at the man. They would be weak but the low power made it possible for her to fire several off in quick succession.

The Tactician moved to Sienna and tried to help the girl up, and away from the bandit. She would leave it to Link to finish him off.

"Damn coward..."

While everyone else was focusing on the other bandits, one Mercenary in particular ended up managing to seize Sienna and held her hostage, threatening to kill her if they didn't comply and drop their weapons. Well. Ciela didn't hold any weapons so it didn't really affect her, but this sort of hostage situation was always a messy thing. She thought of having herself and Remy rush forward abusing the element of surprise on the mercenary, then healing off the inevitable slash would on Sienna, but...if she couldn't heal her in time, that might mean that Sienna would suffer from a deeper damage than what she could manage to heal off. The bloodloss would be immense too, and Sienna's not Link. Link's the kind of guy that would bathe in his own blood in the morning and be completely fine at night.

Though, speaking of, it seemed that he had an idea. Well, less of an idea and more a quick response. He threw his shield towards the Mercenary, and it was surprising enough that Sienna was dropped to the ground as the Mercenary dodged it. In the meantime, he called out for Penelope, who rushed to the scene with Wind spells blazing. She helped Sienna off the ground, and so Ciela decided to rush to their side at least to check if Sienna was fine or not. While she wanted to trample the mercenary to paste with Remy, she decided that it might be wiser to just leave him to Link and Cat for now.

While Alois's axe had been batted away, it was not without retaliation from his companions. Both Azar and Edrick managed to lay a few good hits into him, before the bandit leader seemed to go into another frenzy in an attempt to kill Edrick. While Alois was getting ready to go and aid him, he was cut off as a barbarian made his way over and tried to attack him. Managing to avoid the initial axe swing, Alois started to draw his own bronze axe, only to be smacked across the face as the bandit swung his free arm at him.

Stumbling, being knocked back, the barbarian hefted his axe back and began to go attack at the boy once again. With his own weapon drawn, Alois managed to slash at the axe, parrying it away. While the man was off balance from this, Alois made his way over, swinging his axe into the gut of the bandit. The pain from the axe caused the barbarian to double down in pain, which prompted the fighter to punch him in the face before bringing his axe back around a swing a lethal blow into the bandit's chest.

As the barbarian slumped over, dead, Alois looked between them and Binks. With a thought forming in his head, Alois started to heft the bandit's corpse up before calling out saying, "hey Binks, you look like you could use some help!" Stepping a bit forward, Alois tossed the bandit's body towards Binks. It probably wouldn't go very far or with much force, but he was hoping it was certainly distracting enough.

As the bandits started to converge away from them, Tsetseg looked to the other members of the patrol as she said, "then let's show them what happens when they turn their backs to us!" The girl had a very prideful smile on her face as she readied her bow once again. Firing arrow after arrow into the crowd, Tsetseg was doing her darndest to make sure that the bandits who were going to help their leader were having a difficult time getting there.

Before, the bandits had fought like, well, bandits, men who had lost themselves on the road of life and sought only plunder and the thrill of battle. Now, they fought with the desperation of men who knew their lives to be on the line. As indeed they were. Numbers were what they had going for them. They could often intimidate any of their marks into submission before they even had to set hand to axe. Now, there were about as many of their victims as there were bandits, and they found they didn't like that so much.

Licorice had chewed up a good corner of the bandits all by herself, and she seemed a tireless opponent. Urvan was just as fearsome, and the brigands had decided to steer clear of both, clumping around the injured frogs and their leader. Were it not for the fact he was still recovering from unconsciousness, Glenn would be nearly as dangerous, but the Protean's reaction time was just that much slower, so he came away with cuts and bruises nonetheless.

A thief with a few knives and a lancer had both spotted Gunther, and made their way toward him, the thief starting the attack with a swift throw to the knight's face while the lancer stabbed forward with his pole arm. A barbarian with a chipped iron axe and a fighter wielding a hand axe found Shiro, the fighter throwing the axe toward the frog while his companion charged in from the side.

Binks managed to nick Edrick's head by a hair when a voice interrupted him.

"Hey Binks, you look like you could use some help!"

The warrior blinked, and promptly cursed as a body was thrown his way, causing him to crash to the ground underneath the unexpected weight, and leaving Edrick mostly unharmed. "Damned fool!" he shouted. "I don't need that kind of help!" he shoved the body off and rose, plucking the lance out of his side and tossing it to the ground. He glared at the idiot boy, and then fired another arrow at the fighter. Really, he was starting to wonder if that bumblehead was on his side or not. He winced. He had turned a little bit too sharply there. Ugh, was he really going to fall...now?

But by the grace of the dragon, his enemies did not take advantage of his momentary slip. He curled his lip. "Honorable fools," he muttered, and charged forward into the two with a war cry. He might fall here, but he would take them with him.

As the bandits started to converge away from the patrol, Tsetseg looked to the other members of the patrol as she said, "then let's show them what happens when they turn their backs to us!"

Urvan grinned, "Yes, let's," he said, and charged forward with his squad leaders. While they did not manage to reach the bandit harrying Azar in time to prevent injury, they did keep the rest of the brigands off of the two, and Alois by proxy.

Catriona sped toward the man, a few steps behind Link, who was even further behind Penelope, who had stood the closest to the stairs. While the lord knew she probably wouldn't make it in time, she at least had to try.

Remy would find himself disadvantaged going up the winding stairs, but he still managed a reasonable pace.

The mercenary cried out as Wind spells cut into his body, and growled as he reached down to grab Sienna, deciding to cut his losses then and there. But he found himself blocked by one of the girls, the one who looked to be albino. Albinos were rare, and he'd probably make quite a profit off of one. She seemed to be focusing on the girl entirely, so he reared down to push his blade to her throat, right as Catriona, Link, and Ciela made it up the stairs.

"Let her go!" Catriona barked, eyes shooting daggers at the knave who dared try to lay a hand on her sister.

"Not on your life," the man sneered, and looked down at the two girls. That was enough of a haul, he supposed. "Come on, we're leaving. You don't want me to slice a line in your pretty little throat, do you?"

OOC: Binks is pretty injured now, and looks like it'll only take a few attacks to bring him down. The bandit numbers keep thinning, but Gunther and Shiro find themselves beset by yet more bandits. Meanwhile, the mercenary has taken Penelope hostage as well, but at least everybody's at the top of the hill now.

Link came to a dead stop when the bandit pressed the knife to Penelope’s throat. He was unfortunately short a few yards and wasn’t close enough to intervene, and that familiar voice in the back of his head reminded him that just a few months ago, he would have been able to close that gap with time to spare. Catriona made it up the stairs shortly after and immediately demanded the man to release her sister. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t do as he was told.

Link glanced over at Catriona and shook his head, and made a discrete gesture with his hand, extending his pointer finger and tucking his thumb into his fist. It was a simple type of sign language used in the 31st regiment to silently communicate between groups. This particular gesture meant that he wanted her to wait. She had to let the man think he was in control, at least for the time being.

He didn’t lower his sword, however. Link kept it leveled at the bandit, his gaze flickering from target-to-target at a breakneck pace that would leave anyone else’s head spinning. Every suit of armor had a chink, every strategy had a flaw, and every man had an opening. He just had to find it.

When faced with an axe coming down right on top of him while his lance was all but pulled out of his hands, Edrick had frozen for just a moment. He knew that Link would have instructed him to do something like dodge out of the way, but at the same time his own aggressive nature had him intent on rushing forward to strike at the man whether or not he had a weapon. This indecisive moment was all it took for the blade of an axe to catch the side of his head, and he probably would have been dead were it not for what Alois did in that moment. It was strange, being confronted by his own mortality when he was not in a state of delirium from blood loss and adrenaline. Strange enough that he stood there for a moment as Binks got to his feet, and had to scramble to grab his lance where it had been thrown to the ground. The moment of hesitation had passed, and as Binks turned to charge Azar he moved to intercept. His face set in a determined expression as he gripped his lance, the leather of his gloves creaking against the wood, and thrust it forward to meet the Bandit. Even if his thrust missed he did not stop his counter charge, instead lowering his shoulders and moving to drive one of them into the Bandit Leader's gut.

Well, at least Sienna was safe for the moment.

Penelope stiffened up as she felt the metal at her throat. She had to be...very careful. If she was too rash then he would panic and the blade would bite into her neck. Which, from every book on injuries and anatomy ever, would be not so good for her.

Catriona and Link both seemed ready to attack the man. So she could at least count on them not giving up. Whether or not that was helpful or harmful was uncertain at the moment.

"You know, historically speaking only 18% of all hostage situations end with the hostage taker getting what they want. Oh and 80% of them end up dying anyway! You're a very brave man to take such a risk. I would never be able to do that. Maybe you'll get lucky. Then again, bandits have historically low luck after all, according to the Statistica Historia. Have you ever read that? I have it with me if you'd like to. It seems like we're going to have quite some time given that neither of these two are going to back down and you have to get past them to get us away. And if you kill me then they'll just be able to kill you right after...Then there's the army of Frog and Fox Protean who likely are moments away from prevailing over whatever allies you have. Given their superior physical abilities and ferocity. So if you just wait there then they'll be on you eventually. Really, the more I think about it the less tactical sense this all makes. I'm sure it's not your fault. I bet your leader isn't all too bright if he attacked two groups of Protean warriors."

She didn't have much a plan. Her only recourse would be to keep talking and hope that it keeps the bandit distracted to create some sort of opening.

Spirits she hoped Ciela didn't do anything Ciela-like...

Gunther raised his shield up to intercept the knife. Though he only managed to clip the weapon it was enough for it to miss the Knight's face. He really should invest in a helmet one of these days...

It did leave him open for the Lancer's stab. Thankfully the blow wasn't as damaging as an axe's so, as it struck him in the chest, he only grunted in slight pain as he thrust his own lance forward. The bandit dodged backwards, more nimble than the foes Gunther had faced before.

He saw the Thief moving around his side to get a better position as his ally was preparing to go in for another thrust. Gunther waited for his chance, knowing he couldn't stop one of them without the other getting an attack through. Even if the Lancer hadn't done much with his attack the next one likely would be aimed at a less protected target.

So when he noticed the Thief throwing a knife, in his peripheral, Gunther acted.

He dove forward and tackled the Lancer. Putting the full weight of his own body combined with the armor onto the man and toppling him to the ground.

The surprised Lancer lost grip on his weapon. Gunther dropped his as well as he rolled off the bandit and picked up the man's weapon. He tossed it at the Thief a moment later. Unfortunately it wasn't designed for such a thing so the Thief was able to dodge out of the way easily.

It did give Gunther enough time to get to his feet and scoop his own weapon back up before thrusting into the Lancer's chest.

Breathing heavily he turned towards the Thief, a wild look in his eyes. To the Thief it may have looked intimidating but the only thing going through Gunther's head at the moment was "Why can't I just go back to standing in front of a door?"

"Oh damn it, it got even worse."

After Ciela and Remy managed to reach to the top of the hills, they were confronted with the sight of Penelope falling to the bandit's hold. At least, Sienna were let free, but this situation escalated in an unpleasant way. Cat was silent for the time being, or so it seemed, and Link was busy gesturing to her and Penelope. Ciela wasn't sure about  what he had in mind, but so far he didn't seem to aim to do much outside of it. The bandit was definitely getting the upper hand now. Any one reckless move, and Penelope would get her throat sliced. They could just wait, but what's stopping the bandit from slicing Penelope's throat when they lowered their guard?

And so, conflicted on what to do, an opening then presented itself to Ciela. Penelope had started one of her infodumps.

"You know, historically speaking only 18% of all hostage situations end with the hostage taker getting what they want. Oh and 80% of them end up dying anyway! You're a very brave man to take such a risk...."

Oh come on. Ciela groaned. But, she realized that this was a golden opportunity. The abruptness of such a long winded talk would take the bandit's attention. He would thus lower his guard a little. But it was just a minor opening. Link or Cat coming forward to attack would still have the bandit be in a position to slice Penelope's throat open. No, they needed something more outrageous, something that would knock over the bandit in its ridiculousness. Ciela tapped on Remy's side, conveying the idea she had. Remy didn't seem like he was a fan of it, but with another tap, as Penelope was still in the middle of her speech, Remy galloped forward all of the sudden.

It was simple. Right now, she just wanted to trample the bandit.

As Alois's bandit toss had managed to show some success, the boy figured that the bandit leader was as a good as done for. Unfortunately, Eddy seemed to be staring off into space and Azar was a bit too preoccupied with her own combatant. As such, Binks had managed to get back up and seemed to have more fury behind him then ever. As he pulled back his bow, Alois figured he was the target again and tried to move out of the way. There was no way he would've been able to dodge the arrow once it was fired, however, as he tried to move away his foot slipped across the grass. His balance being thrown off by this sudden shift cause him to fall down and, luckily enough, coincided with the time the arrow was fired, causing it to sail harmlessly past him. Landing on his behind, Alois let out a, "ow," as he did feeling the pain radiate both from his landing and his current arrow wound.

Getting himself back up, the boy looked to Binks to see that he was beginning to charge Azar. Getting himself back up, the boy readied his iron axe as he began to rush forward, seeing Eddy counter charge the bandit. As the two began to run towards each other, Alois rushed forward as well and aimed to strike his axe into the bandit leader's back after Eddy's attack finished.

As Tsetseg continued to fire arrow after arrow into the crowd of bandits, she looked to see that there was another crowd of bandits engaged with the tall armored guy and some croaky ones. Seeing themselves engaged in the combat, Tsetseg briefly separated herself from the rest of the patrol, moving towards that squad. Bringing up her bow, with the first of her arrows she fired it at the charging fighter. As he more towards the blue croaky protean, he would find his charge interrupted as an arrow lodged itself in his leg, causing him to lurch forward and fall onto the ground in pain. Twirling her other arrow, she looked towards the thief fighting the armored guy.

The thief, quite cautious towards the big knight still seemed ready to fight, if for no other reason than desperation. Trying to display false confidence against the man who had just managed to skewer his lancer companion, the thief brandished one of his daggers, before spinning it and tossing it into the air. While it seemed like he had done so to toss the knife with flair towards the knight, things didn't quite go his way. As he was about to catch the knife, the arm he was using to do so soon found an arrow lodged in it. To make matters worse, as the man's arm shook in shock as he was trying to register the pain, he caught the knife on its return trip down...just a bit too late. Catching the knife by the blade, and clutching it tightly, the man soon tossed it to the ground as he had managed to lacerate his own hand with his weapon. Flailing his arm around, he seemed to no longer be paying attention to his opponent, more so focused on the pain going through his entire arm.

Were the knight or the protean to look in the direction the arrows came from, they'd merely see Tsetseg waving, big smile on her face, before she went back to helping the patrol deal with the bandits converging on their leader.

As the fight against Binks continued, Azar suddenly found herself struck in the side. She turned, finding another bandit who had struck her with his axe while she wasn't looking. While their numbers seemed to be thinning down, and while Binks certainly wasn't looking so good, Azar's attention was suddenly on the bandit who had struck her out of nowhere. This wasn't someone she could just ignore after all; if she did, they'd keep hitting her, and Azar was perfectly capable of being the one to harm herself. She didn't need some filthy bandit and their axe to do it for her.

As such, Azar raised her leg up, kicking the bandit in the stomach and punctuating it with a use of Flux. Then, she raised it further up, repeating the process a second time but directed at the bandit's face. The bandit fell down, obviously alive but just as obviously injured. "If you don't want to die, you'll stay down there," Azar stated, the dark tone clear in her voice. However, being as occupied with the lesser bandit as she was, Azar didn't have time to notice Binks charging at her until it was already too late. Hopefully Edrick's efforts would be able to stop the leader, or at least prevent him from running head-on into the shaman.
