Tinkerer's Randomized Pokejourney

Recommended Posts

I dunno if I'm gonna keep this up or whatnot, but if I do, I guess I'll update occasionally with my progress + certain events.

A few things of note first:

  • This is a randomized run of Pokemon Crystal that I'm playing via phone.
  • The randomized aspects include pokemon in areas (though it keeps to the same general power level), randomized pokemon types and moves that most often adhere to those types, randomized stat distributions, randomized tms, shuffled item locations, randomized starters, and randomized trainer names.
  • I had started this run a good while ago, but only just picked it back up. That said, I'm not starting from the beginning, but I may do another run once this one is done.
With that out of the way, I would like some participation. Pokemon names, the order of the next few gyms, whether I should catch and use "x" pokemon, whether I should use "x" TM, etc.

[spoiler=Preface]

Tythe awakens in the Goldenrod Pokemon Center. Last night seemed endless, but it was time to resume his pokemon journey.

Regarding the people around him with a dazed gaze, Tythe began to remember the events that brought him thus far.

  • Leaving New Bark Town with the choice of the Pokemon: Weedle (come to find out it was, at least part, Steel type), Totodile, or Oddish (later finding out it was, at least part, Dragon type). Because of some mislabeling, I ended up choosing Breeze the Totodile, when I was aiming to pick Weedle...
  • The rival, ???, ended up battling me in Cherrygrove city, ambushing me with the very Weedle I'd wanted for myself. 'Twas a fierce struggle (considering my moves were not very effective), but our teamwork and hard training paid off and we beat ??? to a pulp.
  • Upon getting the blessing from Prof. Elm, I truly began my journey, promptly catching Iceacool the Hoothoot whose chill moves nearly took down Breeze. Soon after that, the team met up with a lost Swinub. Upon catching her, I dubbed her Chainz thanks to her Steel typing.
  • We eventually entered Violet City where we challenged the man formerly known as Falkner to battle. Since I had previously discovered that his gym specialized in Grass-types, it ended up being an easy task to beat him and gain possession of my first badge. Oh, Sprout Tower was also beaten.
  • Soon afterwards, I found myself face-to-face with Rocksmasher the Machop. She had done a number on Chainz, knocking her out in one blow, but then could not lay a finger on Breeze. Thus, she was added to the team.
  • Trekking through Union Cave was of no consequence, though backtracking to heal was annoying.
  • Azalea Town was next up and, after taking care of Team Rocket, I challenged the boy (?) formerly known as Bugsy. The Pokemon he employed stood no chance against Chainz (though for the life of me, I cannot remember what type he used...)
  • I met ??? again, but he posed little challenge to me.
  • I went through the Ilax forest, catching little, but gaining lots of items, before finding myself in Goldenrod, the big city.
  • After training up my 'mon, and buying an Abra from the Game Corner to place in Day Care, I challenged the Gym.
  • F#&K YOU WHITNEY, I mean, LEADER THOMAS! Her name still fills me with rage. How could I lose to her and her Rock type gym when all her Jr. trainers and her first Pokemon were singlehandedly solo'd by the Softboiling Chainz? It was all going perfectly... until she sent out Electabuzz the friggin' Rock/Flying Pokemon. Chainz was the only one faster than it and, despite her resistance to Rock moves, kept getting 50%+ damage from Electabuzz's Rock Slides.
  • After the first loss, I trained a tiny bit more, but made certain Chainz was at full health before challenging Whitney, I mean "Leader Thomas", to battle again and this time succeeded in beating her.
  • It was at this point that I found Chainz' services fulfilled. Retiring her to my PC, I brought Bludvak the Abra into the fold as the new team tank.

[spoiler 1/22-1/23]Continuing my journey, I headed up to the rumored "strange tree" that was hindering my path. However, I had to stop to make a quick detour into the National Park to participate in the "Bug" catching contest. I ended up nabbing an Ice-type Porygon which promptly replaced Iceacool on the team. 1zlbrsh.jpg

Finally, I came to the wiggly tree. Unfortunately, no matter how much I prodded at it, it wouldn't move. I had to backtrack to the Flower Ladies' house and obtain water to spray on the tree.

Approaching the tree, bottle in hand, I took aim and squirted. And the tree attacked! The Sudowoodo put up a tough fight, but I eventually captured it. 2znxs95_th.png

After that was some backtracking, exploring and running errands. I obtained a Spearow named Kenya (flying/water) and a Sunkern named Jo (psychic).iw3kg3_th.png

As well as some TMs and a variety of balls. I also defeated the Kimono Girls and obtained Surf, which I promptly taught to my newly acquired Kenya. Now I stand outside the Ecruteak Pokemon Center and wonder what surprises this town has in store for me.

[spoiler 2/26-2/27]I stood primed to take on the gym leader and rushed to the gym... Only to be pushed out by this weird old dude. With nothing to do, I headed to the burned tower. Hopefully, I could get some training in.

I felt my pokemon could do with some serious training. Starting with Bludvak, we trained off of Poison-type Hoppips, Water-type Rhyhorns, and Ghost-type Pidgeys until he grew 3 levels. Next, R-Smasher who steadily OHKO'd everything in sight... Until he was outsped and OHKO'd himself by a Rhyhorn's Hydro Pump. Breeze stepped in and promptly took care of the offender and later on helped me add a Hoppip to the team.

Overall, it wasn't super productive, but my pokemon are quite a bit stronger and ready to challenge anything!

[spoiler 3/1]...Or so I thought. I finished buffing my team until they were level 22 before challenging my rival, Redro, in the center of Burned Tower. It was a tough fight, but Bludvak the Kadabra really soaked up all the damage like it was nothing and was my MVP of that battle.

After I beat Redro, though, the ground shifted and I fell into the hidden basement of Burned Tower where I encountered 3 majestic beasts who sprinted off. Eusine, the man who had been searching the tower for the beasts, rescued me. My team and I caught one more pokemon, a Spinarak named Spoderman, before we got some rest at the pokemon center.

With Eusine searching for Suicune elsewhere, the Gym Leader returned to his post. Heading to the gym, I wondered what type he and his trainers would employ. To my horror, I found out he was a Gym Leader of Dragon-types. I expected Bludvak, my own Dragon/Electric pokemon, to be of some use, especially after his display against Redro, but I was sorely mistaken.

I defeated the first trainer, no problem. The second trainer, however had a duo of Ledian Dragon/Water types with ridiculous amounts of speed, special ATK, and armed with STAB Twisters which flinched my 'mon more often than not and STAB Hydro Pump which OHKO'd R-Smasher before he could Earthquake 'em.

I realized I needed to do more training and add to my 'mon collection so I headed off to Route 38 where I battled trainers and caught a couple new pokemon: Ivysaur and Jolteon. At this time, my Odd Egg finally hatched into a bug-type Tyrogue who I dubbed Jibby.

After some grinding, I rechallenged the gym and ended up beating the rest of the Jr. Trainers and facing off against the all-seeing master of dragon pokemon, Leader Wayne. It was an intense battle but in the end, we prevailed. I got the DarkNightBadge and left, heading immediately for Olivine.

Completely ignoring the Lighthouse, I withdrew my resident HM Techie, the M-Nidoran Oceanus, and taught him Surf, Cut and Strength before shoving off for Cianwood City.

Whew~!

[spoiler Old Updates]Update1: Will update the current status of my team later today, maybe via screenshots. Added today's gameplay. A big thank you to the 2099 Skype chat for the names of the pictured Pokemon!

Update2: It's been a while! Almost forgot this was a thing of mine, but with all the pokemon hype, I hope to continue the game. Short entry, but I still need to update for my current team and start keeping track of the ones in the PC as well.

Update3: a fairly decent-sized entry if I do say so myself. Currently (since I never seem to do this on my computer where it's easier to edit my 'mon and stats), my team is:

Breeze, the Psychic/Flying Croconaw

Bludvak, the Dragon/Electric Kadabra

R-Smasher, the Ground Machop

Muffin Man, the Grass/Ghost Cubone (was in Day Care)

And Oceanus, the Water Nidoran and HM User.

All of them, except Oceanus, are in their early-mid twenties in level.

Bludvak is a great name for a Kadabra of any type!

Heh, thanks! Honestly, it's name was based on an imaginary villain I'd made up when I was really young.

Anyways, I got lots of work tomorrow, but I should be able to play and update this on Friday!
