[spoiler=Teaser]"Today, we are the masters of our world. Pokemon, for all their power, are at our mercy. We command them to fight for us, to build for us. We befriend them, we breed them, we battle them. We use them, and often times, they need us to survive. Ask any person alive today whether it is humans or pokemon that rule this world, and the answer will always, invariably, inevitably, be "us". That is the truth, despite what those lunatics in Hoenn might have believed. We possess technology capable of controlling the masters of the weather, time, space, life, death... even the creator Arceus itself may eventually fall under the sway of a trainer some day. However, there was a time, long, long ago, before the first pokeball was ever thrown, when the line between master and servant was not so clear. When traveling the routes of our great Midlen region meant death for the unprepared. When the ancient kingdoms warred with one another, and brave warriors charged into battle against the barbarians and the hordes of wild pokemon that plagued the land. Yes... there was such a time... It was the time of legends. An age of heroes, of valor, of conflict. A time when a battle meant risking one's own life, when the blade was as common as the pokeball."

-Introduction to: "On the exploits of the Band of the Braviary"

 by Ogden Teak, Midlen Region Pokemon Professor

When studying ancient history, it is often difficult to discern fact from fiction; truth from exaggeration. Such is the case with the Band of the Braviary: Eight adventurers who, in ancient times, saved the fractured Midlen region from annihilation. Though the historical fact has been muddled by the passage of time and the retelling of legend over countless generations, there is nonetheless undeniable evidence of their heroism. Too much is verified for this to be a simple folktale. These people truly existed, and their actions are the reason that the Midlen we know exists today. Based on historical accounts, oral tradition, and our own archaeological research, this is the most accurate retelling of their story to date. It contains both established details and new evidence that we have been able to uncover.

[spoiler=Rules and Information]First and foremost, all YCM and RP section rules apply. That means no powerplaying, godmodding, etc. You know, obvious things that you should have read already. If you haven't, go do it. This OOC can wait. Secondly, before you apply I expect you to have read this section in its entirety, as well as the Setting, Plot, and Database sections to familiarize yourself with the RP. Lastly, my word, and by extension the word of any co-hosts I may have, is law in here. What I (or we) say goes, and that is final.

Pokemon: Band of the Braviary is a pokemon RP that takes place thousands of years prior to the core series pokemon games, during the medeval era of the pokemon world. Our setting is the Region of Midlen, a rather large expanse of land in central Europe, separated from neighboring Kalos by rugged mountains. As the teaser states, its is the (mostly factual) tale of the Band of the Braviary: a group of unlikely heroes who were instrumental in saving ancient Midlen from destruction.

As you may have guessed, this will be quite a bit different from a typical pokemon RP in both content and tone. At this point in the setting's history, there are no pokeballs, and some artificial species of pokemon, such as voltorb, ditto, and porygon, have yet to be created. "Pokemon Battle" does not carry the same sporting connotation that it does in modern times, and indeed conflict in general tends to be violent and bloody, with both humans and pokemon taking part simultaneously. Obviously, this means that the RP will be a good deal darker than any contemporary pokemon story. Pokemon and humans will die in battle frequently, and the medieval society in which the RP is set can be and often is very harsh and unforgiving. Though humans still find pokemon useful, they also find them terrifying and mysterious, as they do not have the benefit of any modern technology or scientific knowledge that could help them combat or understand pokemon. As such, what we we would call "pokemon training" is a more rare and less understood science than in the modern era. Trainers themselves as we know them are entirely nonexistent. Instead, a similar concept: the Adventurer, exists. Adventurers are similar in concept to both pokemon trainers and the character of classes of Dungeons and Dragons: they can be warriors, rogues, or priests. What sets them apart from the rest of Midlen is their ability to befriend and work with pokemon, a talent that is much more uncommon than it is in modern times. Specifically, the RP will focus on the 8 adventurers who make up the eponymous Band of the Braviary, and follow them from their first meeting, through the group's founding, and ultimately their final quest to save all of Midlen from destruction.

[spoiler=Setting]Pokemon: The Band of the Braviary takes place during the ancient history of the Midlen region. Situated just east of Kalos, and separated by a mountain range, Midlen is in many ways similar to its neighbor. Like Kalos, it is massive, playing host to numerous and varied biomes and almost all known species of pokemon. Where Midlen differs from Kalos is in the severity of its climate. Weather in Midlen changes frequently and unexpectedly, and it is known for its harsh summers in the east and even harsher winters in the west. Though today Midlen is relatively peaceful and economically prosperous, this period in its history is known for its highly unstable political climate. Ancient Midlen is a land divided; home to numerous small kingdoms all vying for control over the region. In addition, At this time Midlen was plagued with brigands and was besieged by barbarians from the north. As well, wild pokemon were much more common than they are today, often posing very real and significant threats to settlements and making the prospect of traveling away from civilization a dangerous one. In short, ancient Midlen is a violent and dangerous place, where armies clash and lawlessness plagues the lands not tightly controlled by one of the region's many lords.

[spoiler=Plot]Our tale begins in mid-November, in the village of Holzstadt in northeastern Midlen. Though normally desolate in these colder months, this farming village on the edge of Duke Elzwyre's territory is bustling with activity. With the Duke and the bulk of his army away on a campaign in the south, the Barbarian lord Ragnar Serpent Tamer has seen fit to lay claim to most of the Duke's territory, marshaling his raiders and terrifying the northern settlements into submission. With few forces at their disposal, the local Baron, Heinrich Drakenmoore, has decided to dip into his coffers and hire a band of adventurers to assist his guard in dealing with Ragnar. As one of the Baron's potential hires, you have made your way to Holztadt in the hopes of seeking employment. You now find yourself at the small village's only watering hole: The Lucid Spinda, on the designated evening. The Baron himself has made his way to town, and everyone in attendance eagerly awaits his arrival.

[spoiler=The Ranger]

Name: Galiard Everend

Gender: Male

Age: 29

[spoiler=Appearance]

vincent_longborn_by_edcid-d6baq8y.jpgGaliard has a very respectable stature of 6’2”, with ruffled jaw-length blonde hair and a short and scruffy beard of the same color. His face is calloused from the harsh conditions and terrible occurrences he has seen, but it would still be considered handsome to many, save for the ill-tempered grimace that is generally stretched across it. Years of travel and battle have broadened his shoulders and tempered his body, gifting him a  hard-bodied physique, and especially muscular arms. He chooses to wear a soldiers uniform with his family crest on the shoulder, but it is very weathered, and he dons a rich midnight blue cloak overtop it, which is in noticeably better condition. The only type of equipment on his person are what he considers  convenient: a sturdy longsword, a standard longbow with a full quiver of arrows, several small daggers tucked into his belt (mostly for skinning game), his ink-stained signet ring, and a signal horn hanging from his waist to alert his allies when things go awry.

[spoiler=Personality]

A ranger of the wild and a nomad for nearly a decade, Galiard can come off as very aloof when you first encounter him, depending on how long he has been out of touch with civilization. Nature is more of his home than any town could ever be, and Pokémon more familiar to him than many of the humans he encounters. They are creatures of instinct, and often they can be read by their posture and understood, but humans are driven by greed and should never be trusted to act a certain way. He has seen best friends turn on one another for a gold piece, and families torn apart out of jealousy, and it makes him wary of people. Galiard can still recall his noble upbringing, and with the blink of an eye he can transform from a rugged man of the forest to a stately Lord’s son, but he chooses not to a majority of the time. One’s true nature is revealed when the person they meet has nothing to offer them, he has learned.

His journey has humbled him greatly from the arrogant and violent child of nobility that he used to be, and Galiard doesn’t like to resort to violence when he does not have to. He was trained in the way of diplomacy, and he will be the first to apply it where it can be used, no matter how dangerous the situation could potentially be. This isn’t to say that he is scared of combat, quite the contrary, Galiard is a very courageous individual. He is not scared to be with the group, on the frontline or in the back, but he prefers to solve things the peaceful way before he tries the violent way. This can even be applied to combat with wild Pokémon. Many of the Pokémon slaughtered for their attacks on humans are just scared, and if you show them you are not trying to threaten them, they will calm down and move on without attacking you. It has come back to bite him before, shown from the massive claw-like scars on his chest from when he tried to avoid fighting an Absol who was protecting their nest.

Galiard is serenely confident in his abilities. He does not often brag or boast about his skill, because he is of a firm belief that actions speak louder than words, but he is not overtly humble either. He will not overestimate himself intentionally to appear stronger, but he will not deny his skill at what he does. This can often add to his bad image among the people of towns even more, because he can appear stuck up, or seem like he thinks that he's too good to converse with them. In all actuality, if someone strikes up a conversation with him he will respond in kind, even though he may come off as strange due to his mannerisms. This does work to his favor in some degree, however, because the only people who work up the courage to speak with him are generally those who want to offer him a job, which he is usually in desperate need of.

The last thing that could be considered noteworthy is Galiard will do his best to get the job done. He would like to believe that he can fix every problem that he encounters, but he knows that isn’t realistic, so he will focus on what his main task is first. If he can lend a helping hand along the way, he will do so even if it inconveniences him in the long the run, but he has learned the importance of prioritizing the most important task first and will not hesitate to do what has to be done to complete it. This is the main reason his Father declared him an unfit ruler: his empathy was severely lacking. It has improved over the years, but he could still learn a thing or two about the importance of other people.

[spoiler=Pokemon]

[spoiler=Kieran]

mightyena.gif

Name: Kieran

Species: Mightyena

Gender: Male

Nature: Jolly

Ability: Intimidate

Moves:

~Taunt

~Crunch

~Fire Fang

~Take Down

~Odor Sleuth

~Thunder Fang

PersonalityKieran is the caricature of a good hunting companion: intelligent, reflexive, instinctual and loyal to a fault. He is very energetic and full of bounce, like most of his species, and he loves to play with anyone that will scratch his ear or rub his belly. Those very same playful eyes can narrow into a predator's gaze in, well, the blink of an eye if he deems you as a threat to Galiard. For all his domesticating of the past eight years, Kieran is still a powerful hunt of the forest, and will not hesitate to show you if you get on his bad side.

[spoiler=Crowley]

noctowl.gif

Name: Crowley

Species: Noctowl

Gender: Male

Nature: Calm

Ability: Keen Eye

Moves:

~Roost

~Air Slash

~Hypnosis

~Foresight

~Mirror Move

~Extrasensory

Personality: Crowley is a very stern and young Noctowl that saved Galiard when he unwittingly stumbled into a nest of Spearow. Galiard has worked with him and trained his skills so that he can play the role of lookout, supporting from afar and making sure that nothing catches the Ranger by surprise.

[spoiler=Skills/Specializations]

Galiard is an extremely skilled survivalist, and is at home in places that most would consider uninhabitable. He has a high mental and physical constitution, allowing him to endure hardships that would cause most other men in the region of Midlen to balk, and is undaunted by perilous circumstances, never allowing fear to get the better of him. He also is not one to resort to killing in order to resolve a conflict unless he has to, preferring to either incapacitate or chase off his combatants. On top of that, with the use of his Pokémon, he is adept at tracking down his enemies or finding a missing villager, even after a rainstorm or past a river that washed their scent away.

However, Galiard is not without his flaws. He isn’t what one would call a very personable person, meaning he has a lot of trouble in relating and interacting with others. He often has difficulty deciding whether the end result can be used to justify the means in many scenarios, constantly looking for other options. Perhaps his greatest flaw though is his “lone wolf” mentality: he’s used to surviving and getting by on his own, and has difficulty relying others. He’s not going to out of his way to act in this fashion, though; rather, he often simply forgets about the others he might be with and attempts to solve his problems “the old-fashioned way”.

[spoiler=The Monk]

Name: Conrad Weiz

Gender: Male

Age: 22

[spoiler=Appearance]

xxmimUE.jpg

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 240 lbs

Conrad prefers wears a light suit of iron armor that covers the essential body parts.  He wears a pair of steel gauntlets that cover his arms up to his shoulders, and steel shin plates that cover his lower legs.  Underneath he wears a light clothing, and wears bandages on both his fists and feet.  He usually always goes barefoot.

[spoiler=Armor]

3uJAd7a.png?1

[spoiler=Personality]

If you were to describe Conrad as an object, it would probably be a rock.  Not so much a rock as a boulder.  An immovable boulder that, if pushed over the edge, will surely crush anyone who dare stand in it's path.  That being said, Conrad is fairly stoic.  His training has made him rock hard in terms of feeling, and physicality.  However, that doesn't mean he's a cold monster.  In fact, he's a rather chilled person.  It's as if the boulder resided in a cool stream.  He goes with the flow, and isn't much of a leading type.  However, he will not blindly follow orders.  If something were to happen that would go against his beliefs, he will gladly voice his opinion on the situation.

Conrad hates needless violence, and will only resort to necessary violence if the situation takes a nasty turn for the worst.  You'd pretty much have to be threatening Conrad's life, the life of another, or the life of his or others pokemon, to make him go full force.  He believes all life is precious, and that any other person who thinks otherwise, does not have a precious one themselves.  Conrad also hates weaponry of any kind.  Steel, iron, and bronze weapons always make him uneasy.  He hasn't picked up a blade since the day his village had been raided.

[spoiler=Pokemon]

[spoiler=Feuer]

Name: Feuer

Species: Monferno

Gender: Male

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Iron Fist

Moves: Mach Punch/Fire Punch/Thunder Punch/Ember/Flame Wheel

Held Item: Fist Plate

Personality/description: Feuer is much like his partner, Conrad.  His passion to protect people lights the fire in his stomach, and the will to better himself as a fighter.  He loves his adopted brother Hanz, and will do whatever it takes to protect him.  However, unlike Conrad, Feuer is much more susceptible to getting angry very quickly and abruptly.  This had led Hanz to make a quick gag out of him by playing little tricks on his brother.  However, when it comes to Hanz, all Feuer can do is smile and rub the tricksters head.

[spoiler=Hanz]

Name: Hanz

Species: Aipom

Gender: Male

Nature: Jolly

Ability: Run Away

Moves: Tickle/Swift/Fake Out/Foul Play/Screech

Held Item: N/A

Personality/description: Hanz is pretty much the exact opposite of his brother, Feuer.  Instead of fighting, Hanz would much rather watch from the sidelines, and be a pain in the butt for both combatants.  Either throwing them off guard with taunts, or sneaking up behind them and tickling them.  He loves his tricks, and loves playing them on his brother even more.  Feuer, being the hot headed fire type that he is, is easy to get all riled up.  Even though Hanz plays tricks on him all the time, it's really just so that Feuer will take a break from his training to pay attention to him.

[spoiler=Skills/Specializations]

Martial Arts: Through strange means, Conrad has become an expert martial artist in almost all forms.  His preferred style relies on him disarming an armed opponent with quick strikes, or counterattacks, and retaliates with full force.  He does this easily with a pair of gauntlets that cover his hands with a custom fitted steel plate, allowing him to grasp onto swords and other weapons without being harmed in the process.  He also wears steel shin armor so that his legs can also be used as a defense against swords and the like.

High Strength and Endurance:  Being a martial artist, Conrad has trained his body to the extreme.  He has strength that could rival that of a Machop's, and has survived being impaled.  He has also bested large group of armed raiders by himself, and outlasted them to the point where they were tired before he even broke a sweat.

Above Average Awareness: In combat, everything moves slow in Conrad's minds eye.  He's able to analyze the muscle movements of his opponent and react appropriately.  This allows him to grab swords mid swing.

[spoiler=Holeh Sheet, a Noble?! (Opinions Requested)]Name: Taro Selene
Gender: Male
Age: 25
[spoiler=Appearance]N27CInH.png

While this shows Taro's one 'nobility' outfit that he maintains in as excellent a condition as possible, his usual one actually displays him wearing underneath a green hooded cloak a full set of padded leather armor, including gloves and boots, but not including any form of helmet. He stands at a 5'10" and weighs in at roughly 137lbs, which makes it very easy for a stronger human to quite literally throw Taro over their shoulder.

[spoiler=Personality]Taro has, above all else, had his eyes on freedom and the adventuring life for the longest time. The urge to explore started roughly after turning six, when an Adventurer with a seemingly-tamed Absol had arrived on his family's doorstep, asking for a place to stay the night in exchange for a possible favor or two in the future. While the mannerisms of the higher classes have effectively been drilled into him, Taro doesn't make use of such behaviors unless needed, which helps diffuse future tensions between himself and other adventurers, since he doesn't lord his place of birth over others usually. Taro, especially with Friend's help, is also often the one that comes up with some wtf-worthy ideas at times in regards to how to get certain tasks accomplished, though that's due to the fact that he hasn't been traveling that long. He's also rather-frugal with spending, since he's since learned that it is not easy to earn funds. He still has a decent amount of change on him, however. Of course, more things will often reveal themselves over time, so let's see how time plays with Taro, yes?

[spoiler=Pokémon][spoiler=Literal Life-long Friend]Name: Friend
Species: Kadabra
Gender: Male
Nature: Serious
Ability: Magic Guard
Moves:
~Teleport
~Signal Beam
~Recover
~Miracle Eye
~Psychic
~Ally Switch
Held Item: Twistedspoon
Personality/description: The name...is actually Friend's own fault. Friend and Taro are almost exactly the same age and met not long after their shared 8th birthday when Taro had managed another escape from the family home. Not knowing any better at the time, Taro had asked whom the then-Abra was, whom had responded telepathically by introducing himself as 'Friend' in the human's own language. Ever since, as Taro would escape to meet with his friend, and even a few times within the house when he couldn't get out via Friend's Teleport, has called him by the name since, and Friend has never once dared to correct him, either. It was closer to their shared 25th birthday that Friend, now a Kadabra, figured out a way for Taro to escape his old life and for him to live without someone dictating his every move. The item that Friend carries was originally a piece of silverware that Taro gave him, as a naive form of gift of friendship early on.

[spoiler=The Collector of Moves]Name: Spellthief
Species: Smeargle
Gender: Male
Nature: Quirky
Ability: Own Tempo
Moves:
~Sketch
~Sketch
~King's Shield
~Diamond Storm
~Soft-Boiled
~Pay Day
Held Item: Red Scarf
Personality/description: A Smeargle with a typical appearance, Spellthief's knowing of Diamond Storm was a fluke of the gods in its own right. Before he met Taro, Spellthief had smacked into a seemingly-random group of Carbink in the nearby area. Before he could make an exit away from them, a Skarmory began to attack them brutally. One of the Carbink that had been snatched in the Skarmory's claws began to glow before undergoing a mutation, a transformation into a Diancie. Upon this did the Diancie release a move that Spellthief had never seen before in his life, the beautiful move known as the Diamond Storm. Being a Smeargle, he Sketched the move before using it himself against the Skarmory to finally free the Diancie. The group of Carbink, led by their lone Diancie, still wander the nation, while Spellthief still retains the move...and the wish to see and Sketch even more unusual moves. He's hoping that this particular noble has what it takes to make that possible.

[spoiler=Skills/specializations]~Familiarity with the Common Folk: Considering the numbers of times that Taro, with Friend's aide, has spend time among the 'commoners' as well as the nobility he was born into, he's one of the few that can directly deal with both ends of the spectrum without much buffer. He's also unfortunately aware that there are some scrupulous people out there that take advantage of the poorer ranks to get things done and remains on guard.

~Military Training: Augmented by his own personal experiences, he's had actual training within the military, which has, above all else, allowed him to maintained a focused mindset when needed. He brings with him a rapier that he uses to fight when needed and is an agile opponent. He has absolutely no issue with getting rough in a fight, however.

~Pokemon Understanding: He suspects that Friend has had a hand in this, but he has developed the ability to directly understand what Pokemon around him are saying. This has lead to a few...interesting...exchanges between Taro and Spellthief on occasion. Pokemon listening to these two going off on each other often hear the only times that Taro ever really swears. However, without Friend, Taro can't understand other Pokemon and most won't be able to understand him still.

~Merchant Graces: Merchants whom are aware of whom he is would often wind up offering better deals than usual to him, which often is passed on to those he's traveling with.

The only thing her late father left her, besides hefty debts, was his Pancham Yoroi who now is her trusty Pangoro. She loves the freedom of exploring the world and the energy of the people around her and, as such, loves to be accompanied both by Pokemon and humans. She instantly comes off as sweet and kind to anyone she meets, and that's why her small business was a success.

Her hometown lies in the middle of a particularly dangerous part of the forest, which is why caravans and explorers usually pay her to escort them out of it, as she's the person who knows those woods the most. Lilya has earned her way out of the streets via these jobs, but continues to do them for the joy of traveling and meeting new people.

On his death bed, he asked Yoroi personally to take care of his daughter, a promise he took seriously. He's a in complete synergy when in battle next to Lilya, pinning enemies down for her to finish or slamming them away from her.

[spoiler=Skills/specializations]

Explorer: Lilya can find the way in and out of practically every place, a practice learned from every time she got lost in the forest. She can also do it unnoticed, as she's quick and light on her feet.

[spoiler=The Failing Jester]

dl7P4td.jpg
"It's supposed to be simple; I perform, and they laugh. We might have to work on the laughing part a bit, though..."

Name: Rafaela Reitz

Gender: Female

Age: 18

[spoiler=Appearance]7XU7M5O.jpg
Standing at 5'6" and weighing 118 pounds, Rafaela is a girl of bright colors and brighter expressions.  She always wears flashy clothes with vivid colors or decorations, with a constant in her wardrobe being the dark hooded cloak she wears over her shoulders.  She sports a thin light frame like that of a dancer, with all the flexibility that comes with the assumption.  She appears to have tattooed her right arm and left leg with bright green and bluish colors respectively, ending in stitches as though the limbs were never hers to begin with.  In the same vein, another stitching-like tattoo runs across the left side of her face.

[spoiler=Personality]
Rafaela wants one thing more than anything; to bring smiles and laughter to anyone that watches her performances.  The only problem with this is that she believes in "scary is funny", and it shows in her style of entertainment.

Unable to distinguish the adrenaline rush of fear from the high of laughter, Rafaela will laugh with equal honesty at humor and horror alike.  Because this mindset has been in her head for so long without any contestment, it's difficult for her to conceive that others may not find the same things funny like she does.  The best she can do is try to figure out why her entertainment career has been struggling.  Perhaps if she wasn't as dense as they come, she'd have picked up on it by now.  Or maybe if she wasn't so set in her ways.

While her humor may be falling short to her audiences, her showmanship is certainly not lacking, though.  The only thing Rafaela loves more than humor is dramatic flair, and she's got that in spades.  On the stage or otherwise, rest assured Rafaela's words and actions will have that extra emphasis and enthusiasm that will put one's attention right where she wants it, and will keep it there.  Most of the time, "where she wants it" is toward Rafaela herself.  By no coincidence, just as much as she loves performing for others, Rafaela loves being the center of attention.

Of course, as a performer, one thing may expect about Rafaela is that she's a very self-centered individual.  While she can have her moments, and while she certainly loves having the undivided attention of anyone and everyone around her, Rafaela is actually surprisingly humble.  This is because her career as an entertainer can barely be called a success, and she not only knows that, but actively tries to figure out where she's been going wrong all this time.  Of course, as mentioned before, she's as dense as can be, and quite stubborn.  Unless this changes, she probably won't figure it out anytime soon.

[spoiler=Skills/Specializations]
Rafaela is talented in the art of directing the attention of others where she wants it, making her adept at distraction.  She is also quite skilled with makeup and more, as evidenced by the handiwork she's done on herself.  One other talent that can sometimes stand out in her performances is a knack for dance.  While it doesn't ever show in her performances, Rafaela also appears to be quite skillful with a paintbrush.

Perhaps she should have considered a career as a painter or dancer instead of an entertainer...

Personality/Description: A cheerful ghost with a love for the dramatic nearly as strong as his human partner's, Spook is a kind soul who doesn't like to fight if he can help it.  His moves typically lend themselves more toward showy skills that are complimented Rafaela's boisterous words and actions, giving her in exchange the means to add that frightening flair to her performances.  Both her partner in entertainment and a dear friend.  While he's not really good with words, he's quite dextrous for a Pokemon of his species.

[spoiler=Scarlet Von]

"I'm Scarlet Von, you may have heard of me."

Personal Information:

Name: Scarlet Von

Gender: Female

Age: 26

[spoiler=Appearance]

[Base Image]

Standing at a decent height of 5'9" and boasting a bit of a broad frame, Scarlet would try attention in most crowds even if she didn't have horrendous scars marring her face. This tends to be the only thing that people notice, not her flowing auburn hair or slate gray eyes. Just the scars. And they don't even notice all the scars. Just the biggest ones. They tend not to pay attention to the one that cuts across her eyelid, that's the one the nearly cost her, her sight.

And of course they don't give a damn about the scars hidden beneath the set of teal plate armor. The burn marks across her back in the shape of the DuCaleon family crest. The crooked finger that wasn't crooked before she put the ring on it. No. They don't care about those marks. Just the two slashes across her face. The ones that ruined her beauty.

[spoiler=Personality]

Scarlet Von is a warrior. She has the sword. She's got the armor. She's got the badass sidekick. Hell, she's go the scars to prove it. Scarlet Von isn't someone that you want to mess with. Unfortunately, Scarlet Von isn't real. The level-headed and confident swordswoman is nothing more than a facade. Scarlet Von is a fantasy, an action hero created by the disillusioned mind of a domestic abuse victim with no way out. To Muriel DuCaleon, however, Scarlet Von is all that exists.

Despite being a "skilled swordswoman", Scarlet Von, has received very minimal training in combat and is unaccustomed to the thrills and terrors of combat. Scarlet's 'inner Muriel' begins to show as soon as she is forced to draw her sword, demonstrating a sloppy stance and technique, completely unsure of herself.

Even though she tries to come off looking confident and steadfast, it becomes very apparent to anyone that interacts with Scarlet that she is just trying to make her way through the world. Uncertain, but brave, Scarlet is willing to charge into any situation with her head held high. She is self-sacrificing, perhaps to a foolhardy extent, and has the makings to be a great heroine. However, she's got a lot to learn and big dreams to fulfill if she hopes to live up to the expectations of the Scarlet Von she has built up in her head, the one that was supposed to rescue her from her nightmare. Of course, the sooner she realizes that she did that herself the better.

Masquerading as Scarlet Von serves another purpose other than fulfilling some fantasy of becoming some champion of the people. Muriel DuCaleon may have escaped her old life and reinvented herself, but that doesn't mean her old life is done with her. For now she can hide as someone else, but eventually Scarlet may have to fight the demons that Muriel wasn't strong enough to slay.

Combat Information:

[spoiler=Pokemon]

pikachu_knight_by_ry_spirit-d8sziuh.png

Name: Galahad

Species: Pikachu

Gender: Male

Nature: Brave

Ability: Static

Moves: Quick Attack, Nuzzle, Spark, Iron Tail, Discharge

Held Item: Knight's Armor

Description:

Extremely skilled at battle, Galahad has seen some s***. Rescued by Scarlet(at the time, Muriel), from an underground Pokemon fighting ring, Galahad was a crowd favorite because he could fight with a sword. Unfortunately this meant he was thrown into fight after fight, subjecting him to horrendous abuse. However, it did refine his specific battle style, making him an unorthodox fighter.

Indebted to Scarlet and empathetic to her own abuse he has joined her in her attempt to be an adventurer, actually training her as best as he could in the way of the sword.

[spoiler=Skills/Specializations]

Mediocre Combat Skills: Just learning the ways of combat, Scarlet is hardly fit to take on any highly trained soldiers. However, her skills are drastically improving(she does have a good teacher after all, even though there is a language barrier). Given enough time she could make a fine swordswoman.

Seamstress/Cook/Caretaker: Before leaving her old life behind, Scarlet was expected to take care of the 'womanly duties' around the castle.

Pain Tolerance: Subjected to high levels of abuse, Scarlet's pain tolerance is extremely high.

[spoiler=Equipment/Inventory]

Partial Plate Armor: A crafted set of armor that covers Scarlet's body in steel and leather. Affording the more vital parts of her body protection with metal plates, she is also allowed greater maneuverability with the leather and cloth parts of the armor. Of course, these are the weaker parts of her armor.

Longsword: Carrying a longsword, Scarlet naturally tends to wield it with a two-handed grip. However, she can switch to a one-handed fighting style this offers far less power and control, and it tires her much more quickly.

Miscellaneous Information:

[ Main Theme ] l [ Battle Theme ]

> Scarlet has horrible nightmares about her abuse. When Galahad notices this, he will curl up in the crook of her neck to try and comfort her.

> Scarlet sometimes refers to her past life(Muriel) as her "Dear friend, Muriel."

> She hates to take off her armor.

> She stole her armor, weapons, and Galahad from her ex-husband.

[spoiler=Prince Vann Löwenstein]hMFuENO.png

"Allow me to assist you. It would be most unwise for you to undertake this endeavor alone."

Name: Vann Löwenstein

Gender: Male

Age: 19

[spoiler=Appearance]S0O4HUG.png

Not particularly tall, but definitely not short, Vann stands at a rather unimposing 5' 10". He's also a bit on the lean side. Fit, certainly, but possessing relatively little muscle mass and practically no fat. This combined with his boyish looks would mean that Vann could quite easily be lost in a crowd, were it not for the way he dresses. Obviously a person of some status, Vann forgoes the traditional leather armor most suited to his profession in exchange for a more formal looking (and slightly lighter) armored coat, dyed white. His boots are of similar quality, though they are a bit worn. Beneath the coat he wears a lighter jacket and a woolen shirt, both of high quality. Of particular note is the locket Vann wears as a necklace, which is made of gold and emblazoned with the Löwenstein coat of arms. Vann is both skilled with a blade and stronger than he looks, as evidenced by the bastard sword he wields as his primary weapon. In addition, he keeps a pair of daggers concealed in his coat. He carries with him both the scabbard for his sword and a decently sized satchel in order to store equipment and coin.

[spoiler=Personality]At first glance, Vann appears to act the part of a nobleman in public. He comes off well spoken, courteous, and forthright, with the barest hint of an air of superiority befitting someone of his status in society. Both chivalrous and idealistic, Vann subscribes wholeheartedly to the principal of Noblesse Oblige: the inferred responsibility of those with status to act with generosity and nobility toward those less privileged. As a result, Vann is both tactful and charitable, always willing to offer his services to those in need, and almost constantly maintaining his composure. Of course, Vann's idealism comes with a bit of naivete. Intentionally or not, he can come off as condescending, and can be rather gullible and easily manipulated. Vann is also quite stubborn and even a bit self-rightious, often unwilling to compromise when he encounters a conflict with his ideals. These faults are exacerbated by his overall inexperience, meaning Vann is quite often in over his head, and occasionally at odds with his companions.

Despite his shortcomings though, Vann is genuinely kindhearted and well-intentioned. He wants the best for everyone, and avoids conflict when he can. Though getting him to open up can be tricky, Vann is actually very amicable to those he feels comfortable around. He feels its his duty to appear tactful and proper, however truly, Vann is much, much more comfortable when he can be at ease and not worry about his presentation. He likes to swear, and has a rather childish sense of humor. In spite, or even perhaps because of his boyishness, Vann can be quite charming. Traveling companions often become fast friends, and Vann's good nature tends to endear him to those he meets. This is especially true of pokemon, since Vann can almost always be himself in their presence, and his personality tends to bring out their playfulness.

While he is a child at heart, Vann is still quite capable of being intimidating. He's exceptionally skilled with a blade, and his time spent adventuring has desensitized him a good deal. Calling him hardened would be a stretch, but he is most certainly unfazed by both battle and life on the road. Even in dire circumstances, Vann is capable of remarkable stoicism, or at least the appearance of stoicism. He is unwilling to show weakness to others, a problem exacerbated by his stubbornness. While this can be of use in battle, where his unflinching demeanor can be a boost to morale, it tends to work against Vann inter-personally. He has some difficulty connecting with other people, and can be both guarded and unintentionally callous toward others because of it. In short, Vann is capable and for the most part dependable, but despite his good intentions he sometimes causes problems for himself and others.

[spoiler=Pokemon][spoiler=Siegreiche]

Name: Siegreiche "Sieg"

Species: Scyther

Gender: Male

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Technician

Moves: Quick Attack, Pursuit, Steel Wing, Agility, Double Team, Slash

Held Item: Breastplate (Metal coat)

Personality/description: Sieg was once the leader of a Scyther swarm that prayed upon Löwenstein livestock, and occasionally serfs. Vann, then 13, accompanied his father and a contingent of men to exterminate the swarm. After seeing the Scyther successfully defend itself from several armed men, Vann pleaded with his father to spare it. Though not the wisest of choices, Vann's childish act of kindness had a profound effect on the Scyther. Owing Vann its life, it swore fealty to him, and Vann was allowed by his father to care it so long as he took responsibility for its actions. Since then, Seig has never been far from Vann, and can always be counted on to aid him when needed. Seig serves both as Vann's traveling companion and sparring partner, his skill in battle being comparable to Vann's talent with a sword. A former alpha male, Sieg is slightly larger than the average scyther, and can be identified both by a very distinctive slash scar that runs down his neck and across his abdomen, and a chip in his left blade. He wears a breastplate forged specially for him by the Löwenstein's blacksmith, which also seems to enhance the power of his steel wing attack.

[spoiler=Hans]

Name: Hans

Species: Fletchinder

Gender: Male

Nature: Docile

Ability: Gale Wings

Moves: Brave Bird, Quick Attack, Roost, Ember, Flame Charge, Agility

Held Item: Löwenstein Branded Anklet (No effect)

Personality/description: In keeping with the Löwenstein family tradition of falconry, Vann was given Hans to train and care for when he was 10 years old. Hans has been Vann's constant companion ever since. Born in the Löwenstein family's aviary, Hans is an excellent specimen of his species. Fit and extremely well-behaved, he will obey Vann without question. Hans is extremely comfortable around both people and pokemon, and can sometimes be a little inquisitive, but for the most part he will remain perched on Vann's shoulder.

[spoiler=Skills/specializations]

  • Swordsmanship- Vann has trained in the art of swordplay for most of his life, both under professional instructors as well as some more ad-hoc training against Seig. As a result of both this and his natural talent, he is exceptionally skilled with a sword, and has learned to be extremely proficient with a bastard sword.
  • Diplomacy- Being the son of an Archduke, Vann was taught composure and tact from an early age. His polite demeanor and social status come in extremely handy in negotiations.

[spoiler=Misc. Info]Vann dislikes the taste of game, and tends to be a bit of a picky eater, though this has lessened somewhat since he began adventuring.

[spoiler=The Innocent]5ef309e922ce1a11bfcc5aecfcf64f8e.png
“Um, hmm...maybe we should...oh you’re going to...never mind then.”

Name: Rupert Spruce

Gender: Male

Age: 16

[spoiler=Appearance]atUhHQ9.png
5‘5“ 130 pounds. The bells in his hair are Soothe Bells. His clothing is much more time-appropriate, just simple tunic, trousers, and an old and ragged cloak that is a bit too baggy for him, especially in the shoulders.

[spoiler=Personality]A very gentle and passive soul, Rupert has trouble speaking up in most situations. He desires to get his opinion in, as he always wants to come to a good group decision, but he struggles to be heard over more outgoing personalities. Meek and shy, timid and twitchy, he’s certainly not one you would ever think of as a hero. However he has a bright mind and can quickly analyze situations when he focuses.
He wants peace, for every living creature, and is pained whenever he sees those who would disturb this peace. Self-doubt is a common occurrence for Rupert and he can’t seem to help but compare himself to others, almost always in a negative light.
Many people who see him would assume he likes Pokemon much more than humans. This isn’t true, he likes both equally, but just finds it harder to connect to humans. Rupert is gentle to everyone he meets, including enraged Pokemon. He won’t stop his partners from battling, and will help when he can, if that seems the only option, but he will invariably attempt to go the pacifist route first, second, maybe even third.
Indecisive, Rupert will often waver back and forth between making a decision for so long that by the time he decided the moment has passed.
While he isn’t a coward, Rupert isn’t particularly brave. There are times he instinctively leaps into action when someone is in danger, but he more often will avoid getting into the heat of things like that. However he often sees this as a weakness, which adds to his self-doubt.

Rupert is quite curious about the world, and especially Pokemon. He knows there are many mysteries around them and is driven to learn what he can from these amazing creatures.

[spoiler=Bio]Rupert lived a life free from the turmoil that many others faced. He was born in a small town, though not so small that it was inconsequential. His father was a carpenter and his mother ran an herb shop. He learned much from both of them growing up, though career-wise he was pretty terrible at carpentry. However from his father he learned the value of hard work, and how to live life with good humor. He wasn’t neglected by far, but he was generally left to his own devices. The town being a fairly safe one, and Rupert being a curious child, he would wander about often.

What interested him most was Pokemon. They were such amazing creatures, and hardly any humans were able to connect with them. In his town the only ones that were able to do so were his father, with his Lombre, and the strange old man that lived on the outskirts of town, with a Cacturne. He had extensive notes on Lombre, but was terrified of the old man and his Cacturne.
However wild Pokemon fascinated him. He always tried to study them but hardly ever could pull it off without either having to run, having them run, or being dragged off by an adult.

He didn’t have many actual friends growing up. Realistically he had none, besides his sister, Joan. Due to his passive nature and his love for studying he’d often end up just tagging along with other kids and sticking to the sideline.
He rarely actually got picked on growing up because his sister would always be there to defend him. Often getting into fights with the other kids because of this. “Well that’s what big sisters are for! Keeping brats away from my brat, haha!” It kept him from harm but also installed in him a sense of weariness and solidified his passiveness.

When his sister turned 16, and Rupert 9, she went out to travel. Joan had been a bit of a star in the eyes of the townsfolk. She was talented with the blade, and had an almost psychic connection with Pokemon. Rupert had been told many tales about her driving off, or calming down, wild Pokemon. Everyone was certain she was going to go far. She came back every now and then, to visit, but rarely. Every time she did everyone would flock to her and she’d tell them stories. Though she saved the best for Rupert and her parents in the privacy of their home.
Joan even gave Rupert his first Pokemon, a Mawile egg from her very own Mawile. It was from that Rupert learned of Pokemon Breeding and he began to think of the possibilities.

One day, after Rupert had turned 12, they got the news. Joan had been killed in battle with a vicious Emboar. All that the family got back was her cloak, which had been relatively unharmed but for some scorch marks.
Rupert was devastated. The only thing holding him together was his Mawile, Lilith, and even then just barely.  It took quite some time for him to go back to relative normal, though he had certainly been changed by this news. But it made him determined that he would find a way to make something of himself, to live up to the, in his own mind, shining legacy his sister left behind.

He put even more effort into his attempts to befriend Pokemon, much to his parent’s chagrin. Though he avoided Fire types entirely. That’s when he met Cinnamon. Cinnamon had been caught trying to steal food from a Primape and was being chased. Rupert saw the tiny Pokemon in trouble and something took hold of him. He went to help, and got badly injured because of it. However Lilith saved him, fighting off the angry Pokemon. “Even now I need someone to protect me...”. However, despite this, Rupert felt someone encouraged. He at least had done something. Though it took some time to recover, and his parents had given him quite the scolding.

It was all worth it in the end, to Rupert. Especially as that Minun came to him a few nights later, offering some food and friendship. Rupert accepted and now had two Pokemon friends. His parents were widely skeptible about this, especially when things started vanishing around town and pranks picked up in frequency, however seeing how much Rupert clearly cared for Cinnamon they couldn’t bring themselves to chase him off.

Rupert realized he had gotten lucky with the wild Pokemon thus far, and began to focus elsewhere. He learned about herbs from his mother, and read books to increase this knowledge, beginning to find new ways to combine them and various other natural ingredients.
But it wasn’t enough. He decided, as he was nearing 14 years, to learn more about breeding. To do that he needed more Pokemon to learn about closely. That’s when he decided to seek out the old man.

At first the man was stubborn, grumpy, and downright rude, but after two weeks Rupert finally broke through. As it turns out the old man had been a Pokemon breeder, the Cacturne having been his first egg.
He taught Rupert many things, and eventually Rupert decided to test his knowledge. With his father’s permission he used Lombre and Cacturne, eventually producing the result. Alonzo the Lotad wasn’t a marvel of Pokemon breeding, but he was Rupert’s first success in the field, and thus meant more to him than any “perfect” egg.

With all this knowledge, Rupert began to want to travel to use his skills. He was scared, after what happened to his sister. He knew he wasn’t nearly as talented or courageous as her. He was, in his eyes, lesser in every regard. But he finally decided after turning 16 he would head out. His parents wanted him to stay and so he, though it pained him to do so, left with a note explaining all his feelings. He took with him some ingredients, basic supplies, and his sister’s cloak, then left into the world.

[spoiler=Pokemon][spoiler=The Leader]Name:Lilith

Species:Mawile

Gender:Female

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Intimidate

Moves: Play Rough, Iron Head, Crunch, Sweet Scent, Captivate, Focus Punch

Held Item: Mental Herb

Personality/description: The undisputed leader of the group, and very clearly wears the pants in this relationship, as it were. Quite forward and brave, Lilith doesn't give up and refuses to let Rupert give up either. She is extremely protective of her allies, but also really strict on them. She does this with love, though she doesn't let this show very often. She's aggressive in battle, often attempting to draw the opponent away from the others and taking them on herself. Surprisingly easy to fluster when she's caught by surprise. She's clever, and knows how to use her abilities for the best, even some of her more tricky attacks.

[spoiler=The Troublemaker]Name: Cinnamon

Species: Minun

Gender: Male

Nature: Sassy

Ability: Minus

Moves: Nasty Plot, Thunder Wave, Encore, Fake Tears, Electro Ball, Charm

Held Item: Focus Sash (Tied around waist)

Personality/description: Brat. Complete grade A brat. And he loves it. He knows he shouldn't do the things he does but that just makes him want to do it more. Breaking the rules and getting into trouble is his favorite thing in the world. He's full of energy and legitimately friendly. The only problem is that his friendship comes at the price of being a target for pranks and jokes. However he totally adores Rupert and is in fact possessive of him. Wants to be complimented by Rupert almost as much as he wants to cause people annoyance.

[spoiler=The Derp]Name: Alonzo

Species: Lotad

Gender: Male

Nature: Quiet

Ability: Rain Dish

Moves: Astonish, Mist, Bubble, Teeter Dance, Synthesis, Absorb

Held Item: Damp Rock

Personality/description: Alonzo is...strange. He doesn't seem to react to much, even the most stressful and important situation. Stares a lot, which makes people uncomfortable after a while. He doesn't seem to notice. Though if he noticed he would feel bad, as Alonzo doesn't want to bother anyone. He's not shy, and can be quite cuddling on occasion. But through it all he tends to have a blank expression. Not a deep thinker, and not very observant, Alonzo is prone to getting lost. Though he often somehow finds his way back. Has a dream of being a great dancer.

[spoiler=Skills/specializations]Rupert has studied Pokemon closely and acquired great knowledge of the workings of many Pokemon and their strengths and weaknesses. Even knows how to treat sick Pokemon.
He also has knowledge of alchemy, able to create various “potions” with different effects.

[spoiler=The Hermit]

"This one thinks that decision is unwise. Like poking a Durant hill...messy."

Name: Jeule Lanfranc
Gender: Male
Age: 28
[spoiler=Appearance]

Ue4HEGQ.png
HT: 5'8"   WT: 140 lbs
Rather frail and feminine-looking, Jeule gives off a dignified, gentle atmosphere. This looks a bit incongruous when seen wielding a bloody morning star. His clothes are of fine make, reflecting his wealth, but the colors are dull and muted.

[spoiler=Personality]

(True Neutral) Jeule is a very polite, agreeable person. He is rather humble, and refers to himself as "this one" when he speaks. While he does not go out of his way to help others, he also does not refuse aid when asked. He tends to be the voice of reason within groups, and isn't prone to making rash decisions. However, he flat-out refuses to be led by ethics, as despite himself, he is still influenced a little by the order, so what he sees as reasonable might be extreme to others, and comes across as ruthless because of it.

As a result of his travels, Jeule has become rather wise, and isn't averse to giving advice or caution to others. Because of his upbringing, he has become immune to seeing death or depravity, and does not flinch from violence. He is also rather learned and often quotes from the numerous books he has read.

Despite his attempts to move on from his past and become a new person, Jeule is still influenced by his old self. Sometimes he regresses, and during those times, he comes off as rather creepy and sinister. However, he has changed, and always manages to return to normal.

[spoiler=Pokémon]

[spoiler=Echo]

shedinja.gif
Name: Echo
Species: Shedinja
Gender: Genderless (Barley was male, however)
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Wonder Guard
Moves: Shadow Sneak, Mind Reader, Confuse Ray, Phantom Force, Bug Bite, Endure
Held Item: Focus Sash
Description: Seemingly emotionless at first glance, Echo is actually quite affectionate toward Jeule. Whether this is because of Barley's influence, or because they have grown attached to Jeule on their own, is up in the air. Most people find them creepy, especially given the rumors surrounding the hole on their back. Can sense the bad intentions of others, and often steers Jeule away from those who would mean him harm.

[spoiler=Mist]

goomy.gif
Name: Mist
Species: Goomy
Gender: Female
Nature: Bashful
Ability: Sap Sipper
Moves: Bubble, Tackle, Absorb, Protect, Acid Armor, Iron Tail
Held Item: N/A
Description: Shy and sweet, Mist tends to hide when around people she doesn't know. She sees Jeule and Echo as surrogate parents, as her own died in a mudslide. She tends to run away rather than fight, and both Jeule and Echo would rather fight than see her have to do it.

[spoiler=Skills]

Bargaining: Because of his mercantile upbringing, Jeule is a whiz at getting the best deals out of people and can rob an inexperienced trader blind.

Philosopher: Clever and wise, Jeule is known throughout Midlen for his sage advice and knowledge on various tomes.

Morning Star Fighter: Uses a morning star to fight, and doesn't hold back.

[spoiler=Miscellaneous]

Likes bitter food and hates sweets.

Zai, you need to keep me posted when you're doing this kind of thing.  Regardless, expect an application from me by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.

Edit: Here's an app.  Subject to tweaks over time, but it's pretty much everything.

[spoiler=The Star]

lyus8xt.png

"Mmm, I hope you all enjoy yourselves now, okay~?"

Name: Alphonse Stern

Gender: Male

Age: 25

[spoiler=Appearance]

vTeuwpC.png

Alphonse stands at a rather tall 6’2” and weighs in at approximately 175 lbs, sporting a lithe and well-toned build.  He stands out fairly well from the crowd with his well-styled white hair and peculiar, orange eyes.  Not that he tries to blend in, though, what with his generally showy manner of dress that either accentuates the fine amount of coin he pulls in with his profession, or gives him away straight off the bat as an entertainer.  No matter what, though, he always keeps his rapier sheathed at his hip and his lute strapped to his back wherever he goes, should the need for either one arise.

[spoiler=Personality]

Alphonse is a showman through-and-through; nearly everything he does is done with a flair and panache comparable to a grand theatrical performance, regardless of how mundane it might be.  He is also rather loquacious, and prefers to use multisyllabic words whenever possible, which to some conveys great intellect and mental acumen…While to others simply makes him come off sesquipedalian.  Regardless, he does his best in all of his pursuits and actions to put on a show for anyone who might be watching.

Almost as much as he is a performer, though, Alphonse is…Well, the term used by people without very favorable opinions of him would be “charlatan,” but he prefers to refer to himself as a “picaresque.”  Semantics aside, Alphonse was brought up by con artists and cutpurses, and as such inherited a few tricks of the trade in his time with them and puts them to work.  He’s quite skilled in the arts of flattery and persuasion, and is quite capable of eking a few more coins out of someone than they were necessarily prepared to give him.  He’s also not above deceit and thievery, so long as it’s for what he deems “a worthy cause,” such as providing for the less fortunate or homeless…Which is precisely why he has never settled down anywhere.

Now, while Alphonse may seem like he’s a good person to have around to keep your spirits up, and you’d be right in that assumption, he isn’t without his faults.  Alphonse never seems to take much of anything seriously, often laughing off and making light of even the gravest of circumstances and events.  He’s also a bit of a cynic and a skeptic, not really holding much stock in other people’s selfless or altruistic tendencies, and believing that nearly everyone (if not actually everyone) wants something for themselves out of everyone else…I mean, except himself, obviously.

Now, this is where Alphonse’s demons lie.  Ever since his world collapsed around him following the fate of his parents and the disbanding of the circus, Alphonse has constantly struggled with morality.  As a child, he loved nothing more than making people smile without a real care for money or fame, and he still thinks that entertainment is his calling…But he doesn’t know anymore whether he’s still doing it for others, or just for himself.  Through all the years he’s scoured the far reaches of Midlen, with all of the interactions he’s had with people of all different stripes, he’s slowly started to become jaded and lose his faith in humanity.  Though a few glimmers of hope remain in his mind, he has all but convinced himself that humanity as a whole is fueled by nothing more than corruption and greed, and he’s capable of changing that for the better.  After all, if he doesn’t step up to the plate and take action…Well, then he’s no better than the ones he wants to stop, is he?

[spoiler=Pokemon]

[spoiler=The Peerless Pierre]

Name: Pierre

Species: Chatot

Gender: Male

Nature: Rash

Ability: Keen Eye

Moves: Hyper Voice | Chatter | Mimic | Nasty Plot | Encore | Roost

Held Item:

Personality/Description: Pierre is even more of a character than his owner.  He’s loud-mouthed and abrasive, a fast-talker with even faster fingers (Talons? Wings?), and a keen eye for both peoples’ characters and wallets…Not to mention unusually intelligent, even for his species.  Nothing gets past Pierre, and if you try anything funny with him (which is a monumentally terrible idea), he will Rattatta you out quicker than you even thought possible.  A bird Pokémon who has called as many town guards on people as have been called on him, his reputation exceeds even that of his “business partner,” if you can believe it.  While not a combatant by nature, he prefers to settle conflicts by deceiving and disarming his opponent, but can hold his own if need be.

[spoiler=The Gallant Gawain]

Name: Gawain

Species: Gallade

Gender: Male

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Justified

Moves: Psycho Cut | Swords Dance | Drain Punch | Night Slash | Shadow Sneak | Leaf Blade

Held Item:

Personality/Description: Gawain is the oldest member of Alphonse’s troupe (in terms of physical age), and this can be seen in his rough, scarred appearance in comparison to most Gallade.  While a seemingly incongruous choice of partner for Alphonse and Pierre, due to his no-nonsense attitude and reserved demeanor, one way of looking at it is Gawain represents the moral center of the group; his chivalry and low tolerance for trickery and deceit keeps the party on the straight-and-narrow in situations where they might otherwise stray.  He serves as the perfect foil for Pierre in comedic performances, and is also Alphonse’s opponent of choice for his mock swordfights.  Gawain is also the most skilled fighter of the crew, with raw power and masterful technique both on his side from his time in the fighting pits.

[spoiler=The Mystical Morrigan]

Name: Morrigan

Species: Misdreavus

Gender: Female

Nature: Modest

Ability: Levitate

Moves: Power Gem | Psychic | Shadow Ball | Trick | Confuse Ray | Pain Split

Held Item

Personality/Description: Morrigan is the mom of the group, and Alphonse’s oldest companion.  Her mystical, occult skills were what prompted Alphonse to start a Pokémon-themed entertainment troupe, and she has stood (err, floated) by his side ever since.  She’s a very kind and doting figure, despite her species’ reputation, and is actually a bit shy.  However, she is capable of performing with the best of them when Alphonse is leading her on, and she’s a long-standing fan favorite.  While she isn’t a fan of fighting (nor is she very skilled at it), she has had to on occasion, and can handle herself if it's absolutely required of her.  However, she and Alphonse are rather protective of each other, and don’t like to see the other one fight.  She is a rather skilled cook due to her psychic abilities, and she dotes on the troupe to the best of her abilities.

[spoiler=Skills/Specializations]

  • Charisma and Influence: Alphonse is an entertainer at heart, and a very skilled one at that.  He has a special way of getting peoples’ attention and lifting up their spirits, even when they’re at their lowest.  He’s always ready with a warm smile, an amusing joke or act, and an inspirational speech for anyone willing to pay him heed.
  • Combat and Athletic Skills: Alphonse’s brief but fruitful stint as a gladiator, various acrobatic and stunt performances, as well as his various encounters with those who aren’t quite the biggest fans of him, helped him to hone various skills in the combat arts.  While he is by no means a fierce warrior, he knows his way with a blade, and possesses a unique dance-like combat style.  He’d prefer not to fight if at all possible, but when he does, he is quick on his feet and is an expert at disarming his opponent (both physically and mentally).

[spoiler=Paladin]

Name: Chara (pronounced "khara") Mullane

Gender: Female

Age: 23

[spoiler=Appearance]

QDCG5w1.jpg

Chara is, without a doubt, a woman of her country. Her skin is fair and pale, comparable to the snow in fact, with a thorough speckling of freckles about her arms, face, back, and chest. Her long, startlingly red hair, which is all but impossible to completely hide beneath a helm, has the habit of falling over her face when it isn't tied back. That face of hers, sharp and almost elfish in appearance, is set with a pair of emerald eyes that gleam and glitter in the faintest of light. Below these startling features is a powerful body, the sort one sees among those trained in martial combat since they were very young. All together, she stands a fair bit taller than most of the women, and some men, of Midlen and is significantly heavier thanks to her muscular build. In the rare times when she is out of her armor, one could well tell that such a life did not inhibit the development of more feminine aspects of her form. At the same time, much of her body is covered with a dizzying assortment of scars that serve to remind any lookers just what sort of woman she is.

[spoiler=Personality]

Chara is very much a product of the culture she grew up in. A thousand tales set within her mind that the Heroic Virtues, Strength of body and mind, Purity of character, and Valor in the face of adversity, were the ultimate to which she ought to aspire. So she refuses no challenges, however great or insurmountable they may seem, and faces them down with a glad heart and a smile on her face. Even if she should ultimately fail to overcome them, she simply picks herself out of the dirt and strikes out once again, often from a different angle than before. She trains her body constantly to keep herself strong, and she even takes the time to grow her mind with learning. Normally, this means speaking to the elders wherever she should come in a search for knowledge, though her father did make certain she was able to read and write in the language of Midlen in spite of her distaste for actually reading. She finds it much more interesting to hear someone talk on a subject than to read it, comparing it to listening to leaves rustle when you want to hear the ocean. Finally, she shies away from those things most consider to be impure: harming innocents, manipulating others, lying, and other such things. If ever anyone should ask for help, and desperately need it, she will be the first to come running to aid.

Of course she is far from perfect, and she does not always live up to her ideals. An intense fear of sea snakes, and similar things, means that she is often unfairly suspicious serpentine pokémon that are, or look like they are, from any sort of water. This extends to creatures like Lapras as well, whose long neck too strongly resembles a serpent for her liking. This suspicion takes the forefront in combat, where she takes even the slightest hostile gesture as a potential attack. While her experience with speaking to others does mean she is quite able in persuading those she needs to, or even defusing a situation before it becomes violent, Chara rapidly becomes frustrated if any sort of negotiations start to take a turn for the worse. As she becomes frustrated, she tends to behave in a less and less reasonable way. This tends to culminate in drawing one or another of her swords and threatening to let them loose on the source of her frustration, which as one might expect has mixed results in the best of times. Worse still in this regard is that she is eternally optimistic, always believing that negotiations will work out quickly and smoothly. Truth be told, she tends to believe that most things will work out quickly and smoothly. According to some among her clan, this is the reason she has as many scars as she does: she is rarely prepared for when things don't work out according to plan. To compensate for this, she most often jumps into things with no plan at all... which is what the rest of her clan says is the reason she has so many scars.

Moving on to other matters, Chara, like the rest of her clan, does not worship Arceus as most of the inhabitants of Midlen do. She and the rest of her kin know enough about the religion to make a show of it whenever a Priest comes knocking, but in truth they stick very strongly to the religion of their homeland. This can cause problems, considering the numerous holidays and ways of celebrating the various heroes whom they worship as having been deified. On the subject of romance, Chara has little interest in the typical way of doing things in Midlen. She doesn't want some lad to come along and sweep her off her feet, and she'd probably cut his hands off if he tried. She is especially scornful of any attempts to try and set her up with a nice boy. In terms of making a living, Chara prefers to hunt game off the land rather than act as a trader in some of her clan.

[spoiler=Pokemon]

[spoiler=Móralltach]

Name: Móralltach

Species: Honedge

Gender: Male

Nature: Brave

Ability: No Guard

Moves: Slash, Night Slash, Fury Cutter, Iron Head, Pursuit, Autotomize

Personality/Description: The Pokémon with whom Chara partnered when her clan returned briefly to their homeland. Somewhat more accurately, he is what her sword turned into when it was possessed by a bloodthirsty ghost she encountered while crossing an old battlefield. Though his bloodlust has since calmed, he no longer takes a stab at anything and everything around him, his battle-hungry nature does tend to get the pair into trouble from time to time. Of course he is also very good at getting them out of trouble, especially when he and Chara fight almost as an extension of each other. He is somewhat slower than other Honedges, thanks to the fact that he possessed a sword intended for two-handed use, but this is mitigated when his partner wields him. In fact, the pair often catch enemies off guard with how swiftly they can attack given his size.

[spoiler=Beagalltach]

Name: Beagalltach

Species: Honedge

Gender: Male

Nature: Naughty

Ability: No Guard

Moves: Retaliate, Fury Cutter, Shadow Sneak, Iron Defense, Aerial Ace, Pursuit

Personality/Description: A second spirit who chose to inhabit Chara's shorter sword at the same time she encountered Móralltach, this smaller blade more than makes up for his lacking size with his ferocity. He also has the horrible habit of getting up to mischief, most of which involves the occasional cut to a passing lady's clothes. It goes without saying that he can get his partners into trouble, but much like the larger blade with whom he is paired he can normally get them out of it as well. Becoming just as much an extension of Chara as she does of him, Beagalltach tends to assist by playing a defensive or even support role. He mostly helps by acting to assist Chara with parrying enemy strikes, and creating openings in their guard that she can exploit. A favored tactic is to retreat inside of his scabbard, and then strike an enemy out of their own shadow to catch them off guard.

[spoiler=Ceallach]

Name: Ceallach

Species: Haxorus

Gender: Male

Nature: Mild

Ability: Mold Breaker

Moves: Dual Chop, Assurance, Dragon Dance, Scary Face, Dragon Pulse, Low Kick

Held Item: Riding Saddle

Personality/Description: The first Pokémon Chara ever partnered with. She found him when he was little more than an Axew that had gotten lost from his nest and was hiding, terrified, in a hole. She took him in, intending to try to find his mother, only for the little guy to take such a liking to her that it was impossible for her to get rid of him. He has since grown up big and strong, and has stuck with her through the good and the bad of her sometimes violent life. Now, full grown and a good bit larger than she expected him to end up, he does his part for her by carrying her into battle or generally anywhere that she needs to go quickly. He is remarkably calm, in spite of how most of his kind are thought to be, and tends to be a calming influence on his partner... when he can fit inside wherever she is at least. He also happens to like nuzzling up to other humans and pokémon, taking care not to cut them apart by accident.

[spoiler=Skills/Specializations]

Martial Training: Given that she aspires to follow after the many great heroes of old, Chara has pursued a great deal of training with weaponry. She is capable when armed with an axe, mace, flail, or spear though she is undoubtedly at her best with a sword. That said, while she certainly can achieve some incredible feats in combat, she isn't much more than good with a sword. Sure she could likely beat out most swordsmen with a normal blade, but the great feats she can accomplish in battle are mostly tied to the way she wields Móralltach and Beagalltach. This often involves allowing her swords to guide her as much as she guides them, and even letting go to let them make a strike on their own while she evades.

Archery: Worth noting apart from her other combat skills is her archery, as she is remarkably gifted with a bow. Her shots are accurate well out to fifty paces, and she has been known to hit the occasional Stantler beyond that. Where she truly excels, though, is bringing in fish with her bow, and claims that she has never missed a shot at anything in the water. Given the number of Feebas she has brought out of lakes and streams, this may well be true.

Survival: The Nomads live a hard life, traveling about much of the known world and staying in few places for very long. It is for this reason, and the fact that they cannot purely subsist on food bought or traded for in markets, that many of them learn to make their way in the wild. Chara is one of these, and while she might not equal a practiced ranger she does have a wide range of ability and knowledge for the wilderness. How to make camp and start a fire, how to properly skin, gut, and butcher game for eating, and even what signs to look for to know what game are in the area. She is, of course, best with pulling marine and aquatic pokémon out of the water and knowing which ones not to eat. She's heard of ways to make a Tentacool edible, but she neither knows nor wants to know them.

Riding: Due to the mobile nature of her kin, Chara learned to ride pokémon of many types from an early age. Most of the time, this is applied to riding her big lovable axe-dragon, but she was taught how to ride on the back of a ponyta when she was a young girl.

Maintenance: While certainly not a blacksmith, Chara knows a few tricks that can be used for quickly mending breaks and tears in her armor out in the field. These are mostly "quick and dirty" fixes to keep things functional for a while, and need to be replaced frequently, but they tend to get the job done. She is far more adept at caring for blades, able to hone the edge of a knife or sword appropriately with a whetstone.

[spoiler=Inventory]

Camping Gear: A bedroll, warm blanket, pillow, and even a large waterproof tarp made of Stantler hide big enough to fit both her and Ceallach beneath it, Chara carries everything she needs to make both herself and her large draconic friend comfortable in the wilderness.

Armor: A set of battle-ready armor for her to wear on occasions when combat is likely, or she needs to make an impression of herself as an able warrior. This is depicted above in her appearance. In addition to this, she also has a suit of hide armor which she either wears under her plate and mail for comfort, or on its own when traveling across fairly safe paths. She also wears this when hunting or fishing, to avoid giving herself away with excess noise or the glint of sunlight on metal.

Shortbow and Arrows: While she accomplished her more impressive feats of distant marksmanship with a longbow, it is somewhat impractical to carry such a thing around. For that reason, Chara instead chooses to carry a short bow with which to do her business. It rarely sees use in combat, more often being employed for fishing or hunting, and is stored in a quiver along with fifteen swellow-feather arrows tipped with broad steel points. These arrows are made to last, and can take a good bit of punishment without breaking and needing to be replaced.

Fishing Arrows: A quintet of arrows specially made for fishing. These have narrow, barbed points made from bone and lack any sort of fletching. Instead, just forward of the nock, each arrow has a hole through which is threaded a cord of braided leather with a loop at its other end. This cord extends roughly fifteen feet, and is used to haul in fish skewered by the arrows.

Knives and whetstones: Chara carries a pair of knives, which she normally uses for working with game. The first is a long, thin blade with a subtle curve to it. This she uses for cutting open and gutting fish, as well as filleting them when she doesn't cook them whole. The second is a stouter blade, still fairly long and curved upon its leading edge while the spine is flat across its whole length, save for a slight dip at the tip to give it a sharp point. She uses this one for cleaning terrestrial game, the stouter blade better suited to cutting open Stantler and other such things. Along with the knives, she carries a trio of whetstones of three different grits: one coarse, one medium, and one fine.
