A True Sprite Battle (Animation Tutorial)

Recommended Posts

We've had lots of fun with our sprites; Not just making them, but having competitions as well. What if, however, your sprite could ACTUALLY battle?

Well, good news! I have made (old) tutorials that you can use to learn how to do this in a fairly simple process. I haven't covered things like how to add music or where to find a good screen recorder, but feel free to ask me if you want help with that. Of course, I'm not your only option though.

Anyway, before I give you the tutorials, I'm gonna go over the programs you'll need.

1. PowerPoint 2007 (Most other versions work as well, but I use 2007.)

2. Any screen recorder.

3. (Optional) Any video editor that lets you import music and sound effects.

4. (Optional) Gimp, or any other program that utilizes face-paced, frame by frame animation.

Now, the tutorials! You don't need to watch them in any particular order, but they are all important except the last. 5th video contains optional information.

1. Long-range attacks.

2. HP bar editing, Close-range attacks, and .gif tips.

3. Text boxes and teleportation.

4. Character motion, glowing, and angle changes.

5. Background motion.

Other than that, here are a couple of other tutorials that might help. None of them are mandatory for you to animate properly, but they'll definitely refine your skills if you're willing to put in the time. (Disclaimer: These were not made by me.)

High-quality long-range attacks. (You don't need to follow the tutorial exactly. It's mostly just to give you a few ideas.)

If members here learn how to animate, it would certainly spark a different (and hopefully more entertaining) meaning of "graphic competition". The battle style can either be that of an RPG, or just a typical free-roam battle. It's you're choice!

Well, that's all. Hope you have fun!

For the mods: You may be wondering why I put a tutorial thread about animating in a section designed for graphic competitions. Well, I COULD have put this in miscellaneous, but I figured tutorials like these would be more attractive here where people are inspired to use their own created characters for competition. If you still feel it's necessary to move it, then go ahead I suppose. I'm not entirely sure people will really care about this regardless of the section it's in. We'll just have to see.
