Hidden Sword Archetype

A cool little deck that likes to play in the graveyard.
More cards will probably be made in the near future.
Edit 1: 4 new cards woo.
Edit 2: New counter trap.

If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 1 other "Hidden Sword" monster in your Graveyard; Add this card to your hand, then you can Normal Summon 1 "Hidden Sword" monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set You can only use each effect of  "Hidden Sword - Sekkou Shizukana" per turn.

When a Spell/Trap card, or monster effect is activated while you control a "Hidden Sword" monster: Pay 1000 Life Points; Negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish this and 2 "Hidden Sword" monsters in your Graveyard; Add 1 "Secret Hidden Sword" card from your Deck to your hand. You only use this effect of "Secret Hidden Sword Disarm" once per turn.

Baka, you're not allowed to say just that in an archetype bump. Be more specific next time~

 

Okay, let's get started:

 

Hayato: The stats are very high for his first effect. If you know what Twin Barrel Dragon is, then you should know that it's only has 1700 ATK and that the effect requires you to flip two coins, and that both have to be heads in order to blow up 1 card your opponent controls. Also, Twin Barrel Dragon's effect can only apply on a Normal Summon, while Hayato can keep bombarding as long as you keep summoning him. That's not good to have when creating a balanced card.

 

Not only that, the second effect is really powerful as well. Shuffling itself back into the Graveyard to automatically add, and since there isn't a OPT or hard OPT limitation anywhere, this becomes a red flag because you can keep adding as long as a Hayato is in the Graveyard.

 

To fix this, just simply rearrange and change the effects, as well as add limitations/costs to balance it. Here's an example:

 

"When this card is Summoned: You can discard 1 card from your hand and target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can shuffle this card back into the deck and target 1 "Hidden Sword" card in your Graveyard; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Hidden Sword - Hayato" once per turn."

 

Hime: See, that's better lol. You remembered to add a hard OPT in the end. Actually, this card is perfectly fine the way it is. It doesn't look like you should be able to abuse it any way, and that it would work well with Hayato. Good job on this one.

 

Edit: You might want to change the effect so that it can only Special Summon a Level 4 or lower "Hidden Sword".

 

Magatama: Oh... I didn't expect that you had high level cards in this archetype. Oh well, I included an edit note above. The effects are really powerful, and 3500 DEF for a Level 7 monster isn't technically correct for Yu-Gi-Oh. Technically, because this card's effect is so powerful, and somewhat generic, you might want to consider some major edits for this card. Remember, no OPT or hard OPT limitations can lead to some really long and unfair combos, or even an infinite loop. Here's another example:

 

First, a stat change example in order to match the level: 2400 ATK and 2000 DEF, or 0 ATK and 2800 DEF

 

Effect change example: "Once per turn: You can target 1 monster on the field; destroy it, and inflict damage to your opponent equal to its original ATK. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can pay 800 LP and shuffle this card back into the Deck; add 1 "Hidden Sword" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Hidden Sword - Sakasa Magatama" once per turn."

 

Technically, if you want to bring more thought and variation, you can also give an additional limitation to the last effects of the monsters (E.G 1 "Hidden Sword" Trap/Spell Card, or 1 "Hidden Sword" monster card). This makes the archetype a lot more interesting, as well as being more fun to play.

 

Shizukana: Yikes, this card is really crazy. SSing from the Deck isn't a simple effect that you can write on without a heavy or archetype limitation, and even with an archetype limitation it can be very debatable. I can see your attempt to put limitations, but looking back at Magatama, it might not be enough. Here's another example of a effect change you can do:

 

"When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Hidden Sword" monster from your Deck, except "Hidden Sword - Sekkou Shizukana". Its effects are negated, and you cannot Summon other monsters, except "Hidden Sword" monsters, during the turn you activate this effect. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 1 other "Hidden Sword" monster in your Graveyard; add this card to your hand. You can only use 1 "Hidden Sword - Sekkou Shizukana" effect per turn."

 

Like I said, you can start changing up the variations to make them more interesting. Also, remember that these are only my suggestions, not that you should follow them. After all, this is your archetype, and I'm simply trying to help make you a better cardmaker.

 

Kage: Hmm... A little worried at how rapid the engine is now. I would start toning down the amount of synergy the cards have, because too much synergy would make it too powerful. The first effect is fine, because you already added the limitation. However, the last two effects require a little minor editing. Might want to think about toning the ATK down to 1500 as well.

 

"Once per turn: You can Tribute this face-up card on the field; send 1 "Hidden Sword" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish it and 1 other "Hidden Sword" monster in your Graveyard, then discard 1 card; draw 2 cards. You can only use each effect of "Hidden Sword - Toujin Kage" once per turn". 

 

Koujin: Stats are like... Really high for a Level 2. It would make more sense for the card to only have 500 ATK and DEF for its effects.

 

Since Kage already has the SS effect, you might want to add more limitations/costs. Here's another example:

 

"You can discard a "Hidden Sword" card to Special Summon this card from your hand. You can only Special Summon "Hidden Sword - Yami Koujin" once per turn this way. Once per turn: You can tribute this card and target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can discard 1 "Hidden Sword" card and banish this card from your Graveyard; Special Summon 1 of your banished "Hidden Sword" monsters. You can only use each effect of "Hidden Sword- Yami Koujin" once per turn."

 

Susanoo: A big problem with the first effect is that it can already target itself. In cardmaking, that usually isn't a good sign if a card can target itself and other monsters for a SS, and then repeating the cycle. Here's another example:

 

"When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 Level 4 or lower "Hidden Sword" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. Once per turn: You can discard 1 "Hidden Sword" monster and target 1 card on the field; banish it until the next Standby Phase. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish it and discard 1 "Hidden Sword" card; Special Summon 1 "Hidden Sword" monster in your Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "Hidden Sword - Susanoo" once per turn."

 

Ansastsusha: Again, you might as well as get rid of the first effect since you already have enough support for Special Summons. The second effect is fine, because returning S/T on the summon wouldn't cause any massive damage, it merely inhibits your opponent's backrow from activating that turn. The last two effects look okay, because they're archetype specific and seems to only serve to speed up the engine.

 

Reinforce: This card may speed up the engine a little too much. I realize that you can't activate their Graveyard effects, but it still provides you a massive set-up and field advantage on the following turn. You might want to change it to adding a "Hidden Blade" monster first, and then sending the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard with the rest of the limitation effects. That would make it more fair.

 

Technique: Everything looks fine, except maybe a hard OPT limitation to the last effect to prevent effect spamming with this card.

 

Substitution: This card seems fine. However, maybe add a limitation like that it must be Special Summoned in Attack Position. Then again, it's best if you test the archetype out and decide if you need more limitations or not.

 

Disarm: Disarm seems really powerful because it's pretty much a universal negator. Add a cost like paying 1000 LP, and change the last effect so that you have to banish 2 "Hidden Sword" monsters as well as itself to add. Then, add a hard OPT at the end so you can only use 1 effect of the card per turn. That should make it balanced because it is very powerful.

 

Inferuno: Should be 3 Level 4 "Hidden Sword" monsters for the Summon requirement. I can't see anything wrong with this card just yet, because each time you detach 1 Xyz Material to use an effect, the card loses 1 Material to Summon when it gets destroyed. I also doubt that you'd be able to get more than 1 copy of this card out to make things troublesome, so it should be fine.

 

Aruji: The card is very powerful with the snatch steal effect. You can literally get rid of one of your opponent's monsters for the cost, and then take control of another monster. Change the take control to last until the End Phase only to give your opponent more of a chance, and take off the last effect to make the card fair. To have a snatch steal effect as well as a float is a little too much. Also, because sending to the graveyard isn't destroying, you might as well as change it to destroying to give your opponent a higher chance of countering it.

 

Final rating for current progress: 6/10. Has a lot of potential, but a lot the cards need to tone their effects down, as well as decrease the synergy between them to make the archetype more fair.

Revision on the wording of most card effects.

Please keep in mind that creator bumps are allowed a maximum of 60 days [2 months] with updates. There's a 19 month lag between posts here (and yeah, thread has been buried back a few pages by now).

 

You are free to remake the thread, but I do have to lock it under section rules. (Just copy/paste the contents)
