Thoughts on "We Stopped Dreaming"

Humanity possesses intelligence, meaning that our curiosity grows the more we learn, and that in turn drives us to continue going further in our exploration of the world and space. When we went into space, we finally saw our place in the universe, and as small as it is, it’s not a reason to get discouraged, it just makes me hope that humanity can find new frontiers to step into and explore. We can afford it if we restructure the budget, as Tyson pointed out, but the question is how would we go about it. It’s true that the budget is warped, but without potential applicable solutions, we can’t fix the problem. So that’s what needs to be focused on before anything else.

On another note, Tyson might not be on the level of Sagan, but he definitely has his charms. Sagan was a calm, but passionate speaker. Tyson brings more explosive passion, but he’s no less inspiring.

Have you ever heard of Generation Joshua?  It's a political camp I heard about, and one of their students told me that they have 3 camps a year, and at each camp, the students are challenged to balanced the United States budget.  These now balanced budgets (often with a surplus) are then sent to Congress and are (obviously) promptly rejected.  One year, the students not only had a surplus, they added into the budget money for NASA and a plan to eventually put a base on the moon.

This shows that Congress COULD balance the budget (since these teenagers do it often), it's just a matter of WOULD the interests groups (controlling various members of congress) allow them to.

congress is filled with people who can't tolerate outside opinions. there may be other factors to it that i am unaware of for why they're rejecting the budgets, but considering damn near every year recently it takes them almost past the deadlines to agree on just raising the ceiling, i have little difficulty believing that congress is filled with idiots.
