The Chronicle Archetype ( 21 - ? )

Here is an Archetype I have been working on. It focuses on keeping your Deck full and juicy with cards, by shuffling cards in your Graveyard into the Deck. This can usually help you activate effects or other useful things. Here is what I got so far...

Chronicle of the Sea

WATER Lv. 4

Aqua / Effect

You can shuffle 2 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can target 1 card your opponent controls; return it to the hand, and if you do, send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "Chronicle of the Sea" once per turn.

 

Chronicle of the Flame

FIRE Lv. 4

1800 / 400

Pyro / Effect

You can shuffle 2 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can target 1 monster your opponent controls; shuffle it into the Deck, and if you do, send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "Chronicle of the Flame" once per turn.

 

Chronicle of the Earth

EARTH Lv. 4

200 / 2100

Rock / Effect

You can shuffle 2 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card was Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can target 1 "Chronicle" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it, and if you do, send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "Chronicle of the Earth" once per turn.

 

Chronicle of the Wind

WIND Lv. 4

1300 / 1200

Winged Beast / Effect

You can shuffle 2 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card was Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can return this card to the hand, then send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard; add 1 "Chronicle" card from your Deck to hand, excpet "Chronicle of the Wind". You can only use each effect of "Chronicle of the Wind" once per turn.

 

Chronicle of the Dark

DARK Lv. 6

2300 / 1000

Fiend / Effect

Can not be Normal Summoned/Set. You can shuffle 3 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it, and if you do, send 2 "Chronicle" cards from your Deck to the Graveyard. Once per turn, you can pay 500 LP: Shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Graveyard into the Deck, then add 1 "Chronicle" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Chronicle of the Dark". You can only use each effect of "Chronicle of the Dark" once per turn, also, you can not Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, excpet "Chronicle" monsters.

 

Chronicle of the Light

LIGHT Lv. 6

1000 / 2300

Fairy / Effect

Can not be Normal Summoned/Set. You can shuffle 3 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can send 2 "Chronicle" cards from your Deck to the Graveyard, then gain 1500 LP. Once per turn, you can pay 500 LP: Add 1 "Chronicle" card from your Graveyard to your hand except "Chronicle of the Light", and if you do, send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "Chronicle of the Light" once per turn, also, you can not Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, excpet "Chronicle" monsters.

You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can add 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to hand, whose level is equal or lower to the number of "Chronicle" cards in your Graveyard, except "Chronicle of Ice".

 

Chronicle of Lava

FIRE Lv. 2

1000 / 0

Dragon / Effect

You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can send 2 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.

 

Chronicle of Plants

EARTH Lv. 2

100 / 1400

Plant / Effect

You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, once per turn, it can not be destroyed by battle. Every time this card is attacked, send 1 "Chronicle" card from your Deck to the Graveyard. When this card is destroyed, you can add 1 "Chronicle" card from your Deck to hand, except "Chronicle of Plants".

 

Chronicle of Sound

WIND Lv. 2

100 / 200

Psychic / Effect

You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can send any number of "Chronicle" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard: Add 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to hand whose level is more then the combined levels of the sent monster. Then, once this effect resolves, destroy this card.

 

Chronicle of Space

DARK Lv. 3

1200 / 1000

Spellcaster / Effect

You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can reveal your current hand; add 1 "Chronicle" monster that has a different level then the levels of any revealed monsters in your hand OR 1 "Chronicle" Spell/Trap Card from your Deck to hand, then send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. Then, you can destroy this card. You can only use the effect of "Chronicle of Space" once per turn, and only once that turn.

 

Chronicle of Lightning

LIGHT Lv. 3

1500 / 400

Thunder / Effect

You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Chronicle" card, you can decrease the ATK and DEF of all monsters your opponent controls by 300x the number of cards they control. Then, if you activated this effect, send 1 "Chronicle" monster for each of your opponent's monsters that lost ATK and DEF by this effect to the Graveyard. Then, you can destroy this card. You can only use the effect of "Chronicle of Lightning" once per turn, and only once that turn.

The Master Chronicle

LIGHT Lv. 10

Warrior / Effect

Can not be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by shuffling 4 "Chronicle" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck, and can not be Summoned by any other way. This card is also a DARK Attribute. Once per turn, when a "Chronicle" monster is shuffled into your Deck, you can Special Summon, from your hand, 1 "Chronicle" monster with the same level but a different Attribute, and if you do, send 2 "Chronicle" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard. You can only control 1 "The Grand Chronicle".

 

The Legion Chronicle

WATER Lv. 8

2300 / 1900

Warrior / Ritual / Effect

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Chronicle Alter". If this card is in your hand, you can reveal your current hand, and if no Ritual Spell Card was revealed, you can add 1 Ritual Spell Card from your Deck to your hand, then send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. Every time a card(s) is shuffled into the Deck, this card gains 200 ATK for every card shuffled into the Deck, until the End Phase. Once per turn, during your End Phase, you can send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard

 

The King Chronicle

FIRE Lv. 8

3800 / 0

Warrior / Ritual / Effect

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Chronicle Alter". When a "Chronicle" monster would be shuffled into the Deck, you can banish it instead; add 1 "Chronicle Alter" from your Deck to hand, then send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. When this card declares an ATK, you must send 3 "Chronicle" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard. This effect can not be negated, also, your opponent can not activate cards or effects in response to this card's effect.

 

The Royal Chronicle

EARTH Lv. 8

0 / 4000

Warrior / Ritual / Effect

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Chronicle Alter". Once per turn, this card can not be destroyed by card effects. Your opponent can not target any "Chronicle" monsters for attacks, except this card. Once per turn, you can flip this card into face-down defense position. When a face-up "Chronicle" monster is targeted for an attack, you can flip this face-down card to face-up defense position. If you do, send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to he Graveyard.

 

The Mayor Chronicle

WIND Lv. 8

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Chronicle Alter".

Normal Spell Card

Send 1 "Chronicle" card from your hand and Deck to the Graveyard, then target 1 "Chronicle" monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand. You can only activate this card once per turn.

 

Chronicle Deed

Normal Spell Card

Send 2 "Chronicle" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard; draw 1 card. You can banish this card from your Graveyard, and target 1 "Chronicle" monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand, then send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. You can only activate this card once per turn.

 

Assualt of Many Chronicles

Quick-Play Spell Card

Target any number of "Chronicle" monster(s) you control (Max. 3): Send, from your Deck to the Graveyard, 1 "Chronicle" monster to the Graveyard for each monster targeted by this effect. This turn, the targeted monster(s) gain 800 ATK, also, they can not be destroyed by battle this turn. You can only activate this card once per turn.

 

First Rule of the Chronicles

Quick-Play Spell Card

When an effect activates when a "Chronicle" monster is Summoned to your side of the field, after the effect resolves, you can target the Summoned monster; destroy it, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck that has the same level but a different Attribute then the Summoned monster. You can only activate this card once per turn.

 

Chronicle Alter

Ritual Spell Card

You can use this card to Ritual Summon any 1 "Chronicle" Ritual monster. You must also Tribute monsters you control or in your hand whose total levels equal 8 or more. You can banish this card from your Graveyard: Send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.

 

Chronicle Bowl

Ritual Spell Card

You can use this card to Ritual Summon any 1 "Chronicle" Ritual monster. This card's name is also treated as "Chronicle Alter" while in the Deck. You must also Tribute monsters you control or in your hand whose total levels equal 8 or more. You can shuffle 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Graveyard into the Deck: Add this card to your hand.

Chronicle Scroll

Normal Trap Card

When a "Chronicle" card is Summoned to your side of the field, you can send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard: Special Summon 1 "Chronicle Token" with the same Attribute, Type, level, ATK and DEF as the Summoned monster. When it is destroyed, shuffle the monster that was sent to the Graveyard by this effect into the Deck, if it is still in the Graveyard.

 

Chronicle Gathering

Normal Trap Card

Send 1 "Chronicle" monster from your Deck into the Graveyard, then you can add 1 level 4 or lower "Chronicle" monster from your Deck to hand.

 

Chronicle Substitute

Continuous Trap Card

Activate only when you shuffle a "Chronicle" card from your Graveyard into the Deck: Special Summon 1 monster from your Deck that had the same name as the shuffled monster. Destroy it during the End Phase. When the selected monster leaves the field, destroy this card.

 

Chronicle Slash

Counter Trap Card

When a card or effect is activated that would destroy a "Chronicle" card(s) on the field, you can send 1 "Chronicle" card from your Deck to the Graveyard; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.

Nice idea, but you have some REALLY powerful cards here

 

Chronicle Deed is WAY to strong. The send is fine BUT the draw 2 is a big no. Thats basic pot of greed there WITH added milling. Sorry thats too strong. 

 

Will comment on more when i can. Nice idea here though, quite basic, but cool.

Just before I do my big review, I would like to comment that "You can Special Summon this card by X" is not an effect. It is a Summoning Condition. Summoning it by an effect would be "You can X: Special Summon this card (from your hand)" the colon makes all the difference.

The first two cards really scare me with their effects. For a milling archetype, that's a really easy way to shuffle and return to hand, effects which are incredibly powerful in today's meta, not to mention added milling. Chronicle has "Once per turn, if this card is Special Summoned", and, first off, that effect resets if it moves zones, and second off, all it would be limiting is that copy of the card. I would suggest putting HOPT on the first 3 so far. 

 

Wind is where the brokenness intensifies. Special Summon it, return it to the hand, send 2 cards from your deck to the graveyard after shuffling them back in, get a search, then repeat. You'll want HOPT on that, but even so, what it does is basically just give you any card you want from your Deck, then allows you to Summon another Chronicler from your hand. Far too overpowered, perhaps add HOPT and make it only send 1?

 

The next two are also far too fast. Considering there is not once per turn on the Summoning of these guys, my guess is the only thing limiting you emptying out your entire deck is the fact that you need about 4 Chroniclers to stay in your deck, and the monster zone limit. All of these cards sent far too much to the Graveyard to compensate, and the searching is to the max, allowing for near INFINITE summons, especially if you choose to Xyz. Speaking of which, why not put "You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Chronicler" monsters, during the turn you activate this effect" on the bigger badder ones?

 

Might I say before I continue that this concept is great. I really love the new take on milling, and I always prefer cards to be OP than UP when it comes to starting off. All these need is nerfing and then you have some really neat cards.

 

Lava and Ice are also a bit speedy for my taste, and Plants, while being fast, is actually really neat. It pays off as a nice wall, buffing you a lot for actually leaving it on its own, and gives you a bonus when destroyed. Lovely. Sound is also really powerful, as you can send as many as you want which can basically set up the whole archetype with just this one card, and you also get a search. Space's effect is unique and I love it, but I feel the HOPT on it could be put on the other monsters, and really just limit it to each effect once per turn. Lightning helps beat over powerful creatures,  but again, might have too much on its own. Both this card and Space are missing a "to the Graveyard".

 

Master is just powerful. Ditch one of those effects, and put HOPT on it. The Rituals are actually fine for the most part, having the same power level as your other monsters, which is odd, as they should technically have more, but as you are limiting everything else, they should be fine. You just forgot the types for the last one.

 

The Spells are also mostly fine, but I also suggest putting HOPT on them all, except the Ritual. Speaking of the Ritual, first off, you should rewrite the whole Summon part of the effect, as it is very off from what other Ritual Spells do (Go check a card like Advanced Ritual Art), and...er...slightly change the Summoning mechanic. I feel it's far too generic, and could be run in many other decks, so...limit that.

 

Scroll is great, Gathering should only mill 1, Substitute is fine along with Slash, although the latter should say "When a card or effect is activated that would destroy a "Chronicle" card(s) on the field..."

 

All in all, right now I'd have to give it a 6/10. There's some great potential here, but the power is over the roof for many of the monsters. Just some OPT clauses, and some other nerfing, and you have yourself an archetype!
