[Support; 11/11]Fushi No Tori Support (Spirit Monsters)

Recommended Posts

So, after discovering the Spirit Monster, Fushi No Tori, and looking at what kind of support existed for Spirit Monsters, I came to the conclusion that phoenixes are pretty friggin' sweet. So, after some (mildly) careful thought, I decided to put my card making skills to work and create support for the cool little immortal bird Fushi No Tori. So, here it is: my Fushi No Tori support (with mild-spicy support for Spirit Monsters).

Fushiogo Field

Field Spell Card

EFFECT: While this card is face-up on the field, Spirit Monsters may be Normal Summoned in addition to either player's Normal Summon/Set. You can only gain this effect once per turn. This card's controller can choose whether or not to return their Spirit Monsters to their hands due to their effects. Once per turn, you can send 1 Spirit Monster from your hand to the Graveyard; add 1 "Fushi" monster from your Deck to your hand. If you gain LP: inflict damage to your opponent equal to the LP you gained.

Fushiryoku Forward

Continuous Spell Card

EFFECT: While this card is face-up on the field, neither play may Special Summon monsters from the hand or Extra Deck, except by that monster's own effect, except Spirit Monsters. Once per turn, you can banish 1 "Fushi" monster or 1 Spirit Monster from your Deck. During your next Standby Phase, add that card to your hand. If this card leaves the field: add 1 "Fushiogo Field" from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand.

Fushioroki Tamago

Continuous Trap Card

EFFECT: When this card is activated: Summon 1 "Fushi No Tori" from your hand, Graveyard, or Deck to the field, or add 1 "Fushi" Spirit Monster from your Deck to your hand. You take no Battle Damage from battles with Spirit Monsters you control. Once per turn, you can gain 500 LP for every face-up FIRE Spirit Monster you control. If your opponent would declare a direct attack while this card is face-up on the field: destroy this card; negate that attack, end the Battle Phase, and gain 1000 LP.

Fushiza Hakken

Normal Spell Card

EFFECT: When this card is activated, target one of your banished Spirit monsters; add that target to your hand, and if you do, gain LP equal to its ATK or DEF (whichever is higher). If a Spirit monster you control is destroyed while this card is in the Graveyard (except for the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard): banish this card; return that monster to the hand, and if you do, add up to two of your banished cards to your Graveyard.

Fushijin Kureimoa

Equip Spell Card

EFFECT: Equip only to a Spirit Monster you control: it gains 800 ATK. If it declares an attack, Spell/Trap cards and effects cannot be activated for the rest of the Battle Phase. If the equipped monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle: gain LP equal to the destroyed monster's ATK on the field. If this card is sent to the Graveyard because the monster it was equipped to returned to the hand: you can set 1 "Fushi" Spell/Trap card from your Deck to the field, then banish 1 "Fushi" monster in your Graveyard.

Fushiogogo is really scary. The Summoning effect has no OPT so you could empty out your entire hand of Spirit monsters, then do who knows what with it. I mean, Rank 4 is a thing, and you can leave your powerful Spirit Monster on past the end phase with this card's effect. On top of that, it has an effect which you might side in something like Aromages. Perhaps one extra Normal Summon instead?

Unsure why Forward allows you to Special Summon Spirit monsters from your hand...surely they can't be Special Summoned? Other than that, fine.

Tamago really seems fine. I find its an interesting Spirit support effects and it helps Fushi.

Assuming Hakken is a continuous Spell, not a Normal Spell, I don't much like it that much as it requires you to have a banished monster. Perhaps add "You can target", because the other effect is swell.

Kane is a little too slow for my liking. I think an add on the Normal Summon itself is fine...but then again, we have Aratama, a generic that searches an Spirit monster on its Summon. So I think just on the Summon balances it out.

Andeddo's first effect is kinda useless, but it can be useful in rare situations, and is balanced out by the power of the second effect. Generally, this is the kind of card you would foolish burial, because you can then easily banish it for non-targeting destruction.

Basato is far too powerful and generic for my tastes. First off, you can destroy it in your hand with something like fire king island to instantly get double tribute fodder, which adds a ton of speed to these kind of archetypes, and then you get the Tribute Summon in grave thing, which adds to the power. While only being slightly too powerful in that regard, I would suggest limiting it to this archetype a bit more.

Kyojin's banish to Summon renders Basato useless, and I feel you should choose one or the other for the direction of this effect. The gaining LP is fine in the most part, but the prevention of effects is phrased weird. Perhaps you meant "If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activates cards or effects for the rest of this Battle Phase." ?

Roitori...while it's nice to see some more banishing done, I feel you haven't done nearly enough banishing effects to warrant it being a theme with the S/T and even the monster effects. It just seems like something stuck onto it. The LP gain is again fine, but the returning banished cards...that basically kills your entire deck, considering how slowly you banish in the first place. Perhaps return only 1 or 2 cards, considering most of the S/T need to return cards?

I give this archetype a 7/10. It pulls on Fushi-No-Tori very well, but seems like it couldn't make up its mind on other effects, and some of the cards are weak in a manner similar to the other spirits. However, there is potential, and very few broken cards.

Hey man, thanks for the review! Though, I feel like you might've been confused on a few things while reviewing, because of some disparities. For one, Forward doesn't allow you to Special Summon Spirit Monsters from the hand: it's supposed to prevent anything besides an inherent Special Summon. For example, Spirit Monsters do have 1 Special Summon-able monster they can play: Yamato-no-Kami. Besides that, they're forced to Normal Summon.

Forwards was supposed to emulate that feeling against decks that like to Special Summon cards through the means of things like Pendulum, Synchro, Fusion, or Xyz Summon. You can still create things like Ultimaya Tzolkin from your Extra Deck, and Special Summon cards like Cyber Dragon in Cyber Dragon Decks, but you can't use that Cyber Dragon to create Nova or Infinity.

With Fushiogo, that was just a noob mistake. I'll get that fixed.

I have no idea why you thought Hakken was a Continuous Spell. I put down "Normal Spell" and the card art clearly displays NO continuous sign. Maybe you thought the theme with the Spells and Traps were that they were continuous...? Either way, unless I state it, don't assume something like that. It seems to have skewed your thought process, and thus your review.

The reason I have it so that he has to return to the hand is that he searches ANY "Fushi" card, including the Spells, Traps, and Boss Monsters. I didn't want to have you gain too much advantage too fast. Plus, as you said, there's already Aratama to search out other Spirits.

I've found the best use of Andeddo is to have him searched via Forward's effect. Banish him directly from the Deck, get to pop a monster and potentially Heal/Burn, and get an 1800 beater that can recycle/search. His first effect is kind of useless, but it's nice when you proc it, since it can recycle things like Kyojin.

The thing is, Basuto was meant to be generic Spirit support, in that you can banish a pair of these to get out Yamato Dragon easier, while also gaining 1000 LP. But, yeah, I see what you mean. I'll add a "sent from the field to the Graveyard" clause to it. However, I'll keep it more generic, since limiting it too much would be unfair, since this deck already has a fair bit of power, once it gets rolling.

Chances are, if you have Kyojin in your hand, you'd rather banish Andeddo than Basuto, I realize. But as I mentioned, just running Fushi monsters in the deck would be idiotic, when there's so much good Spirit Support with it. I'd run Yamato Dragon + Yamato-no-Kami in this deck (plus Aratama), so that way Basuto'd be nice. Plus, Basuto's literally the definition of fodder in the deck. Anyways, I thought Kyojin's effect was written correctly. Guess I'll fix it, bud.

I literally don't see why I wouldn't return all the cards... Your reasoning is flawed. It kills the deck? How does replenishing my banish-able monsters hurt me? Sure, it weakens Hakken, but Hakken can then simply target Roitori...  If you'd said it's an OP effect to recycle my banished materials, then I'd understand and possible see the point in limiting the effect. But... it kills the archetype...? I don't see it.

Anyways, thank you for the review! I've definitely gotten a bit out of it, and seen the flaws most definitely need changing. I'll get on that.

The reason I thought Hakken was continuous was the "When this card was activated" clause. It's normally not needed unless you have a Continuous Spell.

As for Roitori, I thought that the all of the Spells had synergy, as opposed to two. My mistake.

As for the rest of the review, it seems I was more tired than I thought at the time. All of your points are valid, although when you say that limiting Basuto would be bad because "the archetype has a fair bit of power already" actually seems self-contradictory, as you would want to limit it to balance it out.

Raising it to 8/10, sorry for the mistakes. It's still slow, but quite a few of the cards are faster.

Well you have quite a bit of searching, but it seems mostly focused into your S/T, as your monster searcher is too slow to be of help. Yes, he does search S/T as well, but Aramata is more useful in the fact that combined with the Field Spell, and even the banishing of the monsters. Perhaps make it search on summon and have to banish a card from your Graveyard? Some sort of cost would be fine, but spirits need quick summoning. Either do that, or add a new monster.

Thanks for your suggestions, man! Also, if you see this Archetype one final time, do you think that it's finished as is? I'd like to think that 12 cards in the archetype is more than finished. Especially with its two Boss Monsters and abundance of Spells/Traps. Thoughts?
