There are different types of extra normal summons. The ones that are worded as a continuous effect such as

  • Seraphinite
  • Symphonic Warrior Miccs
  • Brain Research Lab
  • Mausoleum of White
  • Blackwing - Nothung the Starlight

and many more, all prevent each other from working. Does that make sense?

Gem-Knight Seraphinite's OPT clause. Is that a hard OPT or a soft OPT?

"Hard OPT" typically refers to card effects that can only be used once per turn across all cards with that name.

"Soft OPT" typically refers to card effects that can only be used once per turn for each individual card. (This also means that, for example, if a Monster Card you control with a "soft OPT" effect leaves the field and later returns to it, it can once again use its "soft OPT" effect because it's considered a different monster, even if it already used that effect the last time it was on the field.)

"You can only gain this effect once per turn" on additional Normal Summon/Set effects restrict those effects to only being used once per turn across all card effects that have "You can only gain this effect once per turn." The associated card names don't matter. These card effects are all ones that grant an additional Normal Summon/Set.

There are ones that aren't from Continuous Effects, like Ritual Beast Tamer Elder's and Swap Frog's. (Miccs's in particular isn't either.)

I know that Elemental HERO WIldheart bypasses Negate Attack's end the battle phase clause along with the rest of it, but what about a similar effect that negates an attack without targeting the attacking monster, and then does something?

Assuming a precedent for this exists.

In generic terms, if a monster is unaffected by card effects, can you apply a "Negate the attack and [do something]" effect to it as long as you don't target it?

Let me ask a specific question:

Can you negate the attack of Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon with Number 39: Utopia, since Utopia doesn't target?

Can Dragon's Mirror summon something like Nethersoul Dragon that lists "2 Zombie-Type monsters"?

I'm assuming you're asking this question because Dragon's Mirror says "Fusion Materials listed on it," and you've gathered that Fusion Materials listed on a Fusion Monster Card aren't considered listed on them if they aren't listed as a card name, with cards like King of the Swamp, Elemental HERO Prisma and Fusion Conscription only dealing with Fusion Materials whose names are specifically listed on Fusion Monster Cards.

The above cards, and some others, have received errata to specify "1 Fusion Material whose name is specifically listed on that card" (in King of the Swamp's case). This clarifies that any Fusion Materials listed on a Fusion Monster Card are in fact considered to be listed on it when card text says "Fusion Materials listed on a Fusion Monster Card," as long as there are no further specifications like the above cards'.

Is the trick that Darj describes in this thread legitimate? Could you call Creator God to get out Horakthy for an instawin?

Yes. Just Plaguespreader putting Holakhty on the top, then Special Summon ignoring the summoning conditions. The player that Special Summons Holakhty wins the duel.

Also, it needs a HOPT on that summon condition to stop loops.

In the case of Tail Swipe, does "choosing" your opponent's monsters target them? The text uses "target" and "choose" together, so I am confused on this.

In the case of Tail Swipe, no. Targeting means choosing a card or cards at the time the card/effect is activated. When you activate Tail Swipe, you choose 1 Level 5 or higher Dinosaur-type monster you control. Because this choice is made at the moment the card is activated, it is called targeting. Then, when Tail Swipe resolves, you make another choice as to which of your opponent's monster(s) you should return to the hand. Because this choice was made when the effect resolved, rather than when it activated, it is not considered targeting.

Hope I cleared things up for you! If you are still confused, just tell us what specifically you find confusing (if you can!), and we'll try to help. :)

What does Decode Talker mean when it says "min. 2"?

Decode Talker requires three effect monsters normally, but link monsters count as their link value for link summons. For example, if you were to (for some reason) go Decode Talker -> Decode Talker, it would count as three effect monsters, fulfilling the requirement by itself, but Decode Talker requires a minimum of 2 monster ("min. 2"), so you'd need to use another effect monster

I'm not sure if this is what you meant to say, but it sort of sounds like you want to use Decode Talker and 1 other monster to Summon Decode Talker. This is not possible, as Decode Talker can only be treated as either 1 monster or 3 monsters, you must use a Link-2 monster or 2 other Effect Monsters if you want to use Decode Talker to Summon another Decode Talker. You cannot exceed the Link Number of the monster.
