[Striker/Written] Rock Stun Reemergence (2/?)

Recommended Posts

Rock of All Trades

****

EARTH

Rock/Effect

1600/1800

Once per turn: You can discard this card; add 1 Level 4 or lower Rock-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. During either player's turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 face-up Effect Monster your opponent controls; negate that target's effects until the end of this turn.

Ro the Reinforcer

****

EARTH

Rock/Effect

1700/1600

You can only Normal Summon 1 "Ro the Reinforcer" per turn. When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 Rock-Type monster with 2000 DEF or less from your Deck to your hand, except "Ro the Reinforcer". Once per turn, during your Main Phase: You can change this card's battle position; immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon/Set 1 Rock-Type monster.

I'm making Rock Stun a project of mine this Summer. These two cards are just my attempt at bringing Rock Stun up to at least Tier 2. Posting in Casual due to less pressure than compared to Advanced, and a project like this doesn't need added pressure. So, CnC?

Do you realize that Trades can cycle itself again and again, and still get a monster? Limit that. Otherwise, it's good.

Ro is basically a Goblindbergh with good DEF and searches. I don't think that is bad, but maybe you could restrict it to Rock Type monsters when Summoning.

Hard OPT has been added to Trades. That was intended, and I apologize for not adding it. The second effect has been changed for the time being. Thinking about an If...: You can... instead of a When...: You can...

The deck thinning part is perfectly okay. Toon table is more notorious as far as that's concerned, since it can search a Trade-In target. This can't search Trade-In or Cards of Consonance targets. Gate Golem is trolly, but doesn't help you deck thin.

I guess triple flavorless breakthrough is annoying, but Breakthrough in Grave has never been list worthy. Not to mention it shits on Monarchs and just makes it more playable in general.

Ro exists, too. It's also flavorless, which is a little weird, since this is supposed to be Rock Stun, not splash everything in everything. It makes him more playable, sure, but I'm kind of confused as to why it just summons anything. You could use it with Goblindbergh into something else and have 3 monsters on board, which isn't too impressive, but I foresee it could lead to some combos outside of what Rock Stun is all about.

I changed the additional Normal Summon/Set to Rock-Type monsters only. The purpose of Ro is to act as a searcher and speed-up the Deck. Trades acts as a searcher as well, but gives Rock Stun a negation from the Graveyard that they don't really have. At this point, I'm not focusing that much on flavor atm due to the differing variants that have been made over the years. Main concern is getting Rock Stun back up to speed as best as I can.

This is hard to review since this is in casual and you are supporting an archetype that exists so this review might be a little like an AC review

First card is a great alternative to Boulder in terms of searching capabilities. Its faster and has a discard cost thst you can use to put more rock types in the grave. Second effect is basically Breakthrough Skill although you can only negate its effects during your turn (Im assuming its a quick effect that you can use during your battle phase) it would be nice if it was during your opponent's turn so that Rock types have their own Veiler.

Second card is another searcher. This time with a wider range but the great thing about this is it gives more choices for Rock Swarm with that Double Summon effect. You can get away with the change battle position cost by changing it to defense position beforehand then have its effect return it to Attack. You can have it change to face-up Defense Position instead but that cost is alright already.

Perhaps more cards that speeds up swarming? Cards thst could bring the 1900 ATK Koaki Meiru Rocks to the field faster.

It is in Casual for the time being so I can get started relatively stress free. I can see if Sakura can move this to Advanced.

For Trades, I made it either player's turn now. That should help clear up it being a Quick Effect as well. I agree that Rocks having a Veiler would help a bit.

For Ro, I'm glad you like it. Thought Rocks in general needed more searchers, and Ro can be a decent tech in Rock Stun to get them going.

I can see what I can do. Sleepy recommended a couple cards I can make, and one of them deals with Koa`ki Meiru iirc.
