They had managed, through the joint effort of Hob, Lindow, and Ryia, thrown the shark off the girl. It landed on its back and began thrashing around, trying to move itself into a position to dive back into the sand. Damien, noticing its attempts, moved towards it with purpose.
He gripped his sword and swung, aiming for the creature's open mouth. With a swift strike he cut through the now defenseless monster's palate and sliced most of the way through. The shark's body began to spasm as it started to bleed out onto the desert. Its flopping growing weaker and weaker.
Unfortunately though that threat had been eliminated the next was approaching fast. And, unlike the first, it didn't dive directly in front of Ryia. Instead it moved underneath her and emerged, attempting to latch onto Ryia's right leg on its upward surge.
Keres continued along, focused on the destination, her heart pounding in her chest. She could only hope the other sharks would ignore her and that her allies would be able to hold them off without her. She watched one approach directly in front of her and drew in a deep breath.
If she could get past this one she might be able to reach the rock formation, which she could now see had some sort of carved spiraling staircase along its length, before the others took notice.
Then she heard the noise behind her. Looking back she saw Reinaan, riding the lizard, heading for her. She panicked or a moment, which only grew as she saw the shark that was chasing behind him.
He got nearer and his intention was clear. "Split...up." She said, her throat sore.
The shark that was in front of her this whole time was by then upon her. She turned and worked her magic, flinging a miniature wave of water at the creature and dragging it off to the side.
The Auran was watching this with a sneer on his face and he backed away from the edge of the formation. He was still visible, but less so, and they could see him raise his arms in the air.
A flaming spear formed above him instead, spinning, spinning, and growing to a length of twelve feet long. He pointed it at the two nearest to him but didn't release it yet.
