They had managed, through the joint effort of Hob, Lindow, and Ryia, thrown the shark off the girl. It landed on its back and began thrashing around, trying to move itself into a position to dive back into the sand. Damien, noticing its attempts, moved towards it with purpose.

He gripped his sword and swung, aiming for the creature's open mouth. With a swift strike he cut through the now defenseless monster's palate and sliced most of the way through. The shark's body began to spasm as it started to bleed out onto the desert. Its flopping growing weaker and weaker.

Unfortunately though that threat had been eliminated the next was approaching fast. And, unlike the first, it didn't dive directly in front of Ryia. Instead it moved underneath her and emerged, attempting to latch onto Ryia's right leg on its upward surge.

Keres continued along, focused on the destination, her heart pounding in her chest. She could only hope the other sharks would ignore her and that her allies would be able to hold them off without her. She watched one approach directly in front of her and drew in a deep breath.

If she could get past this one she might be able to reach the rock formation, which she could now see had some sort of carved spiraling staircase along its length, before the others took notice.

Then she heard the noise behind her. Looking back she saw Reinaan, riding the lizard, heading for her. She panicked or a moment, which only grew as she saw the shark that was chasing behind him.

He got nearer and his intention was clear. "Split...up." She said, her throat sore.

The shark that was in front of her this whole time was by then upon her. She turned and worked her magic, flinging a miniature wave of water at the creature and dragging it off to the side.

The Auran was watching this with a sneer on his face and he backed away from the edge of the formation. He was still visible, but less so, and they could see him raise his arms in the air.

A flaming spear formed above him instead, spinning, spinning, and growing to a length of twelve feet long. He pointed it at the two nearest to him but didn't release it yet.

Gilly was ready to celebrate upon seeing the shark killed by Mr. McGrumpyface, but the fight wasn't over yet! It was only then that she noticed that there was a weird guy shouting on top of the stone thing, but more importantly, there was another shark popping out of the sand to take a bite out of Pinky.

"Nuh uh no you don't!" the halfling shouted and ran at the shark, ice spear out. When she reached the shark, she stabbed out with the spear, attempting to aim for the inside of its mouth like Grumpypants had done. Hob took up the rear, head lowered to ram into the shark's side.

After watching Damien deal away with the first shark, Lindow quickly turned to check the status Keres and Reinaan as the pair attempted to rush the demon gate. His gaze lingered on The Auran, who conjured a large flame construct, after further back on to his platform. Those two would need help dealing with that man...

Suddenly the second shark surfaced near Ryia's feet, prompting Gilly and Hob to charge after it again. "Try to finish that one quickly, I'm going to help the other two..." Seizing the opportunity to pull away and push forward, Lindow called over to Damian, before breaking off into a sprint towards the gate. Well aware of the fact that they were safer with the enemy scattered, Lindow ran on the side opposite of the fire chosen, being sure to keep his eye on the sharks that had yet join the battle.

While Ryia had braced herself for the attack of the shark, she was taken off guard as the creature came in from a different angle then the last one. Kicking her foot back to avoid being eaten by the shark, she was then caught horribly off balance and as the shark rose further up she found herself tumbling over the shark. Landing on her back against the magically firm sand, the girl watched as the shark launched itself into the air, descending down to the ground. While it seemed primed to land on top of Ryia, the girl tried to roll herself away to not be crushed, aided by the halfling and her mount. On its descent  the shark found an icicle stabbed into it and hob ramming into it and knocking it off course.

The shark found itself landing face first into the sand, and started squirming to dive back under. Getting back on her feet, Ryia stood back up and took a look to see everyone running off, and trying to keep the heat off of both Gilly and Keres, the girl took a few stomps into the ground, before taking heavier steps towards the pillar, slowly. As she did, she was moving away from the zone of magically altered terrain that Ackrin created, and with a simple thought, merged with the spirit to brace herself for whatever attacks came next.

Upon approaching Keres the girl called out to the lizard duo to split up. Looking behind him, Reinaan noticed the shark that had jumped at him was in pursuit this whole time. Keres was ready to handle the one approaching her but she definitely didn't need to get caught from both sides by two of them. He'd have to grab the girl on another pass by her. He called to his mount and she began turning to the right while mostly maintaining her speed. The shark had been gaining on them as it was able to swim faster through the sand than Kloqah could on it. Trusting his friend to keep them running in a safe course the boy grabbed a javelin and turned himself about so that he was riding the lizard backwards to keep his eyes aimed on their pursuer. The creature seemed to move oddly as it readied itself to strike. But rather than surface and jump through the air it shot straight up out of the ground trying to bite onto Kloqah's tail and hind leg.

"Move!" Reinaan called to his mount who had been focused on riding ahead. She would attempt to avoid the bite but her grace and fine motor skills when it came to things like this left something to desired. Her leg might not get caught but the teeth would surely close around the bulk of her tail at this rate. As he attempted to warn her the Draken readied his javelin before calling to Ziiyol instead. The spirit's power flowed into his being as flames began gathering at his core. The trail raced along to his right foot with the familiar flame claws extending off his foot's own claws. The boy rammed his foot into the shark's mouth, the blades piercing through. From the teeth beginning to close around her tail and the flaming blades burning it as well Kloqah hissed in pain. The shark too didn't appreciate the attack but due to the pain hadn't yet clamped down onto the lizard's tail. Reinaan began twisting his foot to wrench the blades inside it's jaw about to cause it more pain which only resulted in wild thrashing which halted the trio's forward momentum. With the javelin still in hand the boy would begin to try and poke at the shark to release his mount. Kloqah too was incredibly upset and attempted to turn about enough to snap at the creature's snout. The three were in something of a deadlock, all contorting and pulling at one another for freedom.

The shark that had attacked Ryia managed to squirm its way back underground. Though it didn't stay there for long. In spite of Ryia's stomping the shark didn't seem to care much to attack the girl again. Instead it launched itself up at the Halfling instead, jaw wide and prepared to clamp around the girl's much more accessible head.

Damien, swearing in frustration, rammed his body into the shark. Though his weight didn't seem to do much against the much heavier creature on its own.

As Lindow made his dash across the desert one of the sharks circling the pillar seemed to notice the man and broke away to head for him in a straight shot. To make things worse for the Thunder Chosen the shark that Keres had knocked away had decided that she wasn't worth the effort and came at him from behind as well.

Keres saw this, and called out a croaking warning, before looking between him and Reinaan. She didn't know who to help. Nor did she know if she could even help from her position. Nodding to herself she did the one thing she knew she could do. And she used this time to carry on towards the stone structure.

Now 100 feet away, she could feel a distortion in the air. An uncomfortable tingling and nausea that she knew was coming from the Demon Gate. Even inactive it emitted an aura of wrongness and evil.

Reinaan, much farther away, wouldn't feel this. What he would feel would be a lurching as the confusing tangle of bodies caused Kloqah to topple over to the side.

The shark slipped off of her and dove back into the sand. It circled around to the other side of the pair and attempted to launch up towards where Reinaan had ended up.

Before it emerged, however, the Auran, letting out a loud cackle, shot the flaming lance towards the Draken's back.

Before Gilly knew it, there was a shark aiming to take off her head. Rather than doing something cowardly like running away or peeing her pants, the halfling instead raised up an ice spear, ready and willing to get hurt if it meant taking down this shark from the inside out. "Take this!" she shouted. "You'll find out just how horrible-tasting I am! Except, wait, I probably taste really really good cuz the food I eat is really really yummy--but whatever! Still gonna give you a tummy ache!"

However, Hob was less inclined to let that happen. The sheep increased his speed, till he was thundering like a destrier over the dunes, slightly slowed due to the sand underfoot, but fast enough nonetheless. He lowered his head for a powerful ram against the shark's side, aiming to knock it off course.

In the ongoing struggle of two reptiles and a fish Kloqah had fallen over onto her side, flinging Reinaan onto the sand in the process. The shark had released her and dove back underground in the confusion and likely just wanted to get the flaming claws out its body. The Draken rolled once or twice as he retracted his claws from his foot and held onto his javelin for what it was worth. He could almost feel the beast moving underground, likely because it wasn't leaving. In fact it was coming right for him, it's impressive array of teeth on display. The boy managed to stand and readied his javelin while also extending the flame claws off of his free hand. He could hear something else faintly behind him. It sounded nothing like a shark, leaving only the mage's next projectile as the only option. The amulet had managed to hold together after the fireball but it had sent him flying in the process. How likely was it to withstand another attack? It wasn't a position he could fight and his body acted before his mind could delay him much further, sending the boy diving off toward the north to evade both attacks.

Neither attack hit directly and in fact the spear even found a mark in the shark. Yet the flames weren't done for simply having hit something. A tendril flew about, lashing  at Reinaan as he tumbled to a stop. As it attempted to hit the boy, parts of the flame would break away and be sucked into the amulet which cracked slightly more with each hit. For now, the Draken wasn't getting hurt and the shark was in the process of dying. Kloqah had managed to get up and was smartly keeping her distance from the flames. Her little lizard however was making his way in, trying to keep back the lashes with his javelin while readying his flame claws for the final strike to the wounded shark. Within seconds he was close enough and he ran the length of his claws through the creature's head, piercing the brain and ending itself. The deed done he retreated to maintain what little of the amulet was left, not entirely trusting of the wizard's magic as it was. Kloqah approached her small rider and seemed ready to continue despite the injuries she'd sustained. Reinaan thanked her softly and hopped onto her back to continue their charge once more.

"Straight ahead girl." he instructed her, not aiming for Keres this time. He wouldn't let sharks cluster on them like that again and he looked instead to intercept any of the remaining who might attack the Water Chosen. As the lizard ran Reinaan took a moment to apply some of his salve to what he could reach of her injuries, not wanting her to be in more pain than she had to be for very long. He had only this moment to remain calm and take a deep breath. The kill had ignited a spark in his eyes. The boy wanted the mage's blood spilt all over the rock formation he hid in.

Despite trying her best to drag the attention of the shark away from Gilly and Damien, it seemed in vain as the creature charged the halfling instead. Ryia cursed under her breath, not because of her failure to draw the creature but more so because she saw Gilly take an offensive stance against the creature. While Gilly's thrust seemed to strike something solid in the shark's mouth, neither it nor Hob's charge managed to deter the shark's path. Moving as fast as she could, and without much of a way to re-position the girl otherwise, Ryia merely charged into and knocked Gilly to the side, snapping the ice spear and instead having the shark bite down on her chest plate.

As the teeth started to sink in, Ryia let go of her shield as she used both of her hands to grab onto the shark's maw. Pushing and prying the teeth off, Ryia managed to push the shark off of her and with it a chunk of her armor. As the shark landed on the sand, it snapped its tail at her in the midst of its thrashing. Instinctively, Ryia raised her arm to defend against it, but with no shield there she just managed to get her armored arm whacked. Wincing in pain as her arm was knocked aside, after recovering, the girl drew her  mace out and move to smash it into the shark's gills.

"Tsk," Lindow's eye narrowed as his gaze flickered between the two sharks approaching him from both his front and flank. The creatures were closing the distance troublingly fast, and if one managed to score a hit, it could very likely lead to a rather unfavorable situation.

"Looks like I've suddenly become quite popular..."

Despite the danger of his situation, Lindow remained calm. Keeping his pace, the Thunder Chosen continued to sprint towards the gate, watching his soon to be attackers closely for any shifts in their movements. He had managed to close gap between him and the demon gate just a bit more before his dash across the sand was interrupted.

"Come..." Lindow growled as he watched the shark ahead of him quickly duck down into the ground. Glancing over his shoulder, the man was met with the second shark, diving through the air with it's jaws opened wide. Having known what expect after seeing Ryia's fight, Lindow quickly yanked his leg backwards, moments before the first shark's mouth erupted from the sand to try and take a bite.

Not wasting a moment, Lindow quickly leaped to the side. In that same instant, his shadow surged upwards in the shape of a inky black figure that vaguely resembled it's owner. Roughly grabbing Lindow by his cloak whilst the man was still in the air, the shadow figure heaved backwards slightly before sending him flying forward towards the Demon Gate with a hasty two-handed toss.

Curiosity drove Lindow to glance backwards and watch his shadow be ripped to pieces by the shark's attack, before shifting his attention to the all important landing process. Expertly hitting the ground on his hands and knees, he allowed himself to tumble slightly across the sand. As he did, the man's shadow once again darkened and began to quickly swallow up his form, causing it to appear as he was sinking into the ground.

"It'll be nice to finally escape this heat..." Lindow spoke up to the cursed sun as his vision was enveloped by the whispering darkness. Silently, a lone shadow slithered it's way across the sand towards the Demon Gate.

With the combination of Hob, Gilly, and Damien, the shark was getting overwhelmed to the point that Ryia was, without more than damaged armor, able to escape from its jaws.

As the girl began to bash away at the shark it wasn't able to do much to retaliate and as long as she kept it up the creature would slow and finally perish.

Damien whistled. "Got a savage side don't you?" he nodded at Ryia as he said this. Then, putting his sword back in his sheath, continued on the path towards the stone formation. "Suppose now that we've got this part all cleared up it's time to check out that place. Looks like some of you are already ahead of the game." He glanced over at Anis, a hint of concern on his face, before shrugging and continuing on his way.

Indeed, Keres had managed to reach the foot of the rock formation. There was a shark close behind her but she knew there wasn't much she could do about that if she wanted to keep going. Having to hope that Reinaan could cause it to hesitate so she wouldn't be attacked Keres took a step on the wide step that she found on the formation.

It seemed there was a staircase of some sort, made with tall steps wide enough for two people to travel on, spiraling around the outer edges of the formation and leading to the top. She glanced over to see Lindow suddenly pop up beside her and just nodded at him before taking another step.

Hopefully the two sharks he brought with were unable to climb.

The Auran at the top of the formation began to laugh. A wheezing, unpleasant, laugh. His thin, cracked, lips curled into a smile as he backed farther away from the edge of the formation. "And so they come. That is fine. I haven't been able to really use my magic in years. Those cretins couldn't kill me after all these years and I'm not about to let their lackey's do it."
