[Finished]CC Monthly Series [August 2016] | JUDGING

Recommended Posts

Refer to this thread for any specific information regarding the policies of the CC Monthly.

Theme

Because this year has the Olympics (yes, they're already underway but can still do stuff here), your task is to make 1 card themed on it (base it on the logo itself, any sport of your choosing, etc)

Aside from the above, the rest of the card's design is left up to you.

Deadline

August 21st, 2016 @ 11:59 pm Hawaiʻi Standard Time (GMT -10:00)

If you need help determining what time it'll be in your area when deadline hits, use
this converter.
(Select USA - Hawaii - Honolulu in the "convert to" area)

For your safety, I highly recommend that you turn in your entries when it reaches 11:00 pm in your respective timezones, to avoid confusion; unless you live in the Polynesian islands or another location between the dateline and Hawaiʻi (but I do not foresee this to occur).

Entry Fee

None, you just need to state your interest + provide an entry card with an appropriate explanation.

Rules

1. Standard YCM and Custom Cards rules apply in this section. Please remember to abide by / follow them in this contest.

2. Written Cards are accepted, however if you opt to do this; do not use the cardmaker to generate a pictureless image. Just type it out in text format. Also remember to post your card's effect underneath so it can be easily read if you post a regular card.

3. You are allowed to make minor edits to your card until the deadline (such as effect correction, OCG/spelling fixes, etc), HOWEVER you should have already designed the card as a final product. Changing your entry completely is prohibited.

4. You may not design a card using Fake Types/Attributes nor use Divine-Beast/Creator God and the DIVINE Attribute. All cards must abide by the maximum 5000 ATK/DEF rule for original stats.

5. Ritual Monsters and their corresponding Ritual Spell will be treated as a single card, but their individual scores will be averaged.

6. Any card that is known to us before the deadline is fair game (meaning whatever exists at this time, and whatever leaks YGOrganization and such gets for Raging Tempest).

7. You do not need to provide a submission immediately when you enter, but it needs to be here by the deadline if you want to be scored.

Prizing

1st - 4000 points + 3 reps + access to a custom member group (privileges pending) for a month.
2nd - 3000 points + 2 reps
3rd - 2000 points + 1 rep
4th - 1000 points

(Top 3 will get an award logo)

Prizes listed here are subject to change, depending on number of entries and their quality.

For this month, I will grade this one on my own. If, for whatever reason, I am unable to grade cards, I'll find a member to do that in my place. (If that occurs, their rubric will be listed below)

[spoiler=Grading]

SAKURA

BALANCE/USABILITY (60)

If this were ever released in real life, would it break the game in half or would it be fine as-is? Conversely, is this card underpowered and needs a push in power to be up to standard?

Do we have a reason to run this over another card that does something similar? Does the card actually work the way it's intended to.

CREATIVITY/FLAVOR (25)

  • Did you make an original effect or ripped off an existing card's effects? How did you present your card to us?
  • How well does your card link up to the sport you based it on?

OCG (15)

These components comprise your grade for this section.

  • Are you following guidelines for standard English grammar and writing?
  • Usage of terminology that actually exists on TCG/OCG cards.
  • Spellchecking your work (I will not penalize for differences between American and British spelling, but I WILL deduct for common mistakes.)
  • Can I understand your card without having to PM evilfusion a ruling query?
  • Is your card manageable enough to read?

It is recommended that you write your card in PSCT (using the hybrid form with parenthesized/circled numbers is acceptable), however late 5Ds is fine.

----

Please note that all parts are interconnected; if I cannot understand your card's wording or if it's difficult to read due to mistakes, it will affect other areas. It is your responsibility to make sure your card's intent is clear.

This is the same scale I used in June.

------
If you have any questions, either post in this thread or send me a PM.

Best of luck to all participants.

Alright then, 3 people are in; which I can consider to be a proper contest (otherwise, this might as well be a 1v1). Need to update the OP a bit.

As for the requirement, I loosened it a bit to just be anything linked to the Olympics, not specifically a sport/athlete competing in such. (If you choose to do a sport, then it should be ones that are already accepted, whether past, present or future). So yeah, if you want to make something about the logo, go ahead.

[spoiler=Entry]

Sabreuse Treza
Level 7
LIGHT
Warrior / Effect
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) if a Warrior-Type monster you controlled was destroyed. Once per turn, during either player's Battle Phase, you can swap this card's ATK and DEF values; change it's battle position (this is a Quick Effect). During either player's Battle Phase: This card is treated as having 1 of the following effects, if the requirements are met, until the end of the battle phase (these effects are treated as continuous effects after they are triggered):
• This card attacked; Destroy the opponent's monster before damage calculation, then cause 700 points of damage to your opponent. Trap cards cannot be activated in response to this attack.
• This card was attacked in Attack Position: This card cannot be destroyed by battle, and after damage calculation; return both this card and your opponent's monster to their respective decks, and then you both draw a card.
• This card was attacked in Defence Position: You take no battle damage involving this card. If this card is destroyed as a result of battle, after damage calculation: You can discard 2 cards; destroy 1 monster your Opponent controls. If it is the monster that destroyed this card, you can then draw 1 card.
ATK: 2700
DEF: 0

[spoiler=Change Log]

11/08 - Changed name of card to "Sabreuse Treza"

         - Added addendum to effect and edited an OCG error.

I'm in! Decided to make something more light-hearted and fun, with inspiration from Fencing (hence, the puns). Not sure if the OCG is 100% correct, since I haven't seen that many cards work directly in the Battle Step. Here we go:

[spoiler=A-Fence The Odds!]PWXSCZB.jpg

Artist: AlbertoArni

Normal Trap Card

Effect: During the Battle Step, If an Attack Position monster you control battles an opponent's monster with ATK greater than or equal to it: You can destroy the opponent's battling monster, and if you do, banish it. You can only activate "A-Fence The Odds!" once per turn.

[spoiler=Diving Exhibiter]5HPwbUk.png

WATER - ✪✪✪✪ - Aqua/Effect - 1300/1400

When a WATER monster is Special Summoned from your Graveyard while this card is in your Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card. If a WATER monster is sent to your Graveyard: You can send this card from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard; draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of "Diving Exhbiter" once per turn.

Alright, all three of you have submitted an entry. Just a reminder that you do have some time to clean everything up before the deadline (or really, you have until the actual games end to do so, give/take a few hours on my end because Rio is ahead 7 hours of where I am now). Same goes for any member who still wishes to compete in this.

Allow me to participate. Please remember that Major's Shadow has also entered.

Legend of the Five Rings

LV12 DARK

[Warrior/Synchro/Effect]

2 Tuners + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

This card's effects cannot be negated. Apply these effects, depending on the Attributes of this card's Synchro Material.

  • EARTH: During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a monster effect for the first time this turn: Negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.
  • WATER: During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a Spell Card for the first time this turn: Negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.
  • WIND: During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a Trap card for the first time this turn: Negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.
  • FIRE: During either player's turn, if your opponent would Special Summon a monster(s) for the first time this turn: Negate the Summon.
  • LIGHT: When your opponent declares an attack for the first time this turn: Negate the attack, then place the attacking monster on the bottom of the Deck.

4000/4000

[spoiler Design Notes]

Based on the Olympics flag. Card border is even white, to boot.

I tried looking up the symbolism of the Olympics flag but got nothing other than its colour palette being a mixture of that of all its participating countries. I also tried looking up the Legend of the Five Rings game to see what I can adapt and got nothing to conveniently work with. So instead I went with matching each colour to each Attribute in the game, leaving DARK out and instead putting that as the card's own Attribute.

Of note is that "the first time this turn" means that if the opponent has used, let's say, a monster effect before this card's Summon, then subsequent uses of monster effects on the same turn are not negated after this card was Summoned. This still makes it possible to play around and doesn't give it Towers-level immunity.

Yes, you can use Doriado to enable all effects at once. But that will sum up to at least 5 cards expended to Summon it, given that you'll still need 2 Tuners and possibly another non-Tuner if you can't amass 9 Levels' worth of Tuners.

Alright, that makes 6 of you who've entered (which is a decent turnout so far).

Still need Tori to submit a card before deadline. Just be mindful that you may edit your card before the deadline if you need to.

At the moment...2 fencing cards, 1 based on diving, 1 based on the logo itself and another on track/field.

Ceremonial%20Flame.png

Name: Ceremonial Flame

Attribute: SPELL

Type: Field

Effect: If a monster on the field destroys a monster(s) by battle or by its own effect, place 1 Medal Counter on that monster, also that card's controller gains 400 LP for each Medal Counter on that card. Monsters with a Medal Counter cannot be destroyed by battle or monster effects. During your End Phase: You can destroy this card, and if you do, shuffle all monsters with a Medal Counter into the Deck.

[spoiler=Design notes]The Olympic games wouldn't be complete without the flame that is ignited at the start of the event. As time goes by sporters will defeat their opponents, granting them medals and (most likely) prize money. Other competitors can do very little about a medal someone is awarded, hence the protection effect. Once the games have ended, there is little reason for the sporters to stick around; going home as a result. This is portraied in the last effect which returns "sporters" (identified by medals) to the deck. The awkward timing to do so is to keep the card somewhat in check.

Terrorair Caliber
WIND / Level 3
Machine / Tuner / Effect
ATK / 1300 DEF / 0
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by discarding 1 WIND monster from your hand. You can only Special Summon "Terrorair Caliber" once per turn this way. When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 card on the field; return it to the hand.

I'd like to join, if that's ok :)

Here's my entry:

[spoiler=Punching the Boundaries]

punching_the_boundaries_by_orejon8-dadqb

  Punching the Boundaries

Once per turn, during your Battle Phase, if you control no other

cards on the field: Special Summon 1 monsters from your Deck in

Attack Position. If a monster Special Summoned by this card's

effect(s) inflicts Battle Damage the turn it is Summoned; Special

Summon 1 monster from your Deck in Attack Position whose ATK is

equal to or lower than half the amount of Battle Damage inflicted.

All monsters Special Summoned by this card's effect(s) must attack

the turn they are Summoned, if able, also their effects are negated.

Inspired by Ronda Rousey, who personifies the Olympic passion

to try harder and push the limits.

Hope you people like it :)
