[Finished]A New [Des-]Draconus!

Draconus297

Recommended Posts

So, I have deliberated for a good, long while about what I want the contest to be regarding obtaining this damned Arceus code. I eventually came to the conclusion that, since I practically fetishize these reptilian monstrosities and Arceus is the Pokémon God, the best possible contest would be one where people throw dragons at me. What could possibly go wrong?

Anyway, before we begin, here's a link to the "Des-Draco" archetype you'll be adding a boss to:

http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/345806-des-draco-revamp-written-originally-tythes/?p=6781887

Now, you'll notice that all their ED members are "Des-Draconus", or "Death Dragon Kings" by both translation and Konami censorship conventions. Think how the bigger D/D are called D/D/D, and you're on the right track. That's exactly what we're after, here. A new, ultra-mega-huge boss for this archetype.

I'm willing to accept up to 2 additional judges, if anyone so desires to help me out, but your grading scale must add up to exactly 100 for easy percentage calculation.

[spoiler= Draconus's Grading Scale]

Synergy: 25 points- this is an archetype of tons of power and tons more Draconian Counters. It just won't work if its stats are terrible, it forgets to acknowledge the Counters, or it's not a FIRE Dragon.

Power: 25 points- this archetype likes making beaters that often swing for tons of damage, and often have protection. This monster should fit that mold without being outright broken.

Balance: 20 points- Like I said, can't be broken. However, I'm not interested in anything completely useless, either.

Text: 15 points- Try for proper OCG/TCG card text, please. I don't want to have to do too many fixes to add it to the archetype.

Style: 15 points- Dazzle me, take risks with the design! A Quasar clone or a Dragon-Type equivalent to a Kozmo ship is expected and boring. I'm the kind of guy who likes split Scales, weird niches, odd rulings, and effects/Summon conditions that encourage nonlinear thinking.

Entry fee is 50 Points.

[spoiler= Pot]

150 Points, 1 code

Grand Prize: Arceus code

2nd Prize: 60% of pot

3rd Prize: 30% of pot

4th Prize: 10% of pot

[spoiler= Participants]

Rowling

Rainbow Quasar

Yuuji Kazami

All entries must be submitted by September 12, NO EXCEPTIONS. I'm starting this contest on my own birthday because I can, but I do have classes to go to soon.

My judging of submissions will be revealed on September 25, and prizes will be distributed around the same time.

[spoiler=Des-Draconus Mædridas]

des_draconus_mdridas_by_orejon8-dafm5bj.

Des-Draconus Mædridas

Main Effect:

3 "Des-Draconus" Monsters

Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending the above cards you control to the
Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. (You do not use "Polymerization".)  While
there are Draconian Counters on the field, this card is unaffected by your opponent's card effects.
Once per turn: You can remove 1 Draconian Counter from each card on the field with a Draconian
Counter on it; destroy cards on the field equal to the number of Draconian Counters removed. If this
card is destroyed by its own effect: You can activate this effect; destroy all cards in your opponent's
Pendulum Zone, and if you do, place this card in your Pendulum Zone.

Pendulum Effect:
While this card is on the field, you control your opponent's Pendulum Zone.
(If you control cards in two Pendulum Zones of the same colour, you can
choose which card's Pendulum Scale to use for Pendulum Summons.) If this
card would be destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can target a
card in a different Pendulum Zone; destroy that card instead. If this card
leaves the field; destroy all cards in your opponent's Pendulum Zone.

Maedridas::

Synergy: 20/25- Big, destructive, and fun, with interesting applications within the archetype. Unfortunately it does lack split Pendulum effects and a way to put down its own Draconian Counters, and the way it is it literally can't be Pendulum Summoned if your opponent does manage to kill it (which is unfortunate with it being a Pendulum and all), but the effects that are there fit surprisingly well within the scope of Des-Draco.

Power: 20/25- Huge, protected stick that swings for damage and essentially can blow up the field once a turn. Then, if it does commit suicide, you wind up controlling if your opponent can Pendulum, and if they have higher or lower Scales available to them you can use those instead of the standard 27.

Balance: 18/20- Very good on this front. Difficult to Summon, very big, respectably difficult for your opponent to remove once it's there. That said, it's also not invincible, and the old standby UtL can save you from it, as well as anything that can straight beat over it or just a Kaiju. You get what you pay for, essentially.

Text: 15/15- I didn't see a single error.

Style: 10/15- The Pendulum Effect is creative and surprising, which is good . . . because the Monster Effect is rather uninspired, and could basically be taken off any number of cards despite its usefulness and ham factor.

Total: 83/100- 3rd place!

Bahamut::

Synergy: 23/25- Crapping out a powerful boss is the MO of Des-Draco. Not the most inspired dragon in the cave, but it's quite effective. I just wish it had something a bit more- even an Ancient Gear clause would make it fit in with the other well-protected bosses Des-Draco has without breaking the game.

Power: 22/25- Draw power, potentially huge stats, and the occasional free boss from nowhere. It'd probably be better if it didn't rely on targeting, but hey.

Balance: 17/20: I'm honestly unsettled somewhat by the fact that the huge boss of a Pendulum archetype would be able to generate advantage by popping its own cards during either player's Main Phase. That said, given that you need to use its Monster Effect to put it in a Pendulum Zone, I think that there's not too much of an issue.

Text: 12/15- Not for many legitimate errors, mind you, mostly just random redundancy. "Des-Draconus" monsters are, by definition, "Des-Draco" monsters. Also, Pendulum Scales don't go to the Graveyard- they'd return to the ED, which unfortunately would prevent the more useful effect from going off.

Style: 11/15- The Pendulum Effects are fun and have some style to them, which does make up for the unimaginative monster effect. However, considering that Des-Draco can field tons of Counters and it can place more of its own, this does get credit here.

Total: 85/100- 2nd place!

Hel-Ension::

Synergy: 20/25- Big, powerful, and destructive, it's a FIRE Dragon that plays with Draconian Counters . . . but it can't maintain its own protection, and for some unknown reason it has a more restrictive Scale than the Main Deck monsters.

Power: 25/25- Its on-field effect is OPT non-targeting banishing on a 4000 body. It gets points in this category regardless. And then both its Pendulum effects are decent monster removal, one banishing and the other destruction and burn. This thing has power in spades.

Balance: 17/20- Requires you to run Polymerization or another such Fusion substitute in a Deck not built for it for a really fun and powerful monster. Honestly, given how much Poly is searchable, you lose points here for this thing being kinda broken. Only kinda, though, because you still have to run it and 3 or more Des-Draco monsters in a Deck to even see this big guy.

Text: 15/15- I don't see any errors.

Style: 9/15- Unfortunately, you do lose points for not bring able to put down your own Counters, but holy hell this thing fits among the destructive, powerful Des-Draco. Also . . . nothing here breaks much new ground.

Total: 86/100 - 1st place!
