Pocket Monsters: Sun & Moon

Recommended Posts

Pokemon meets Power Rangers.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen that comparison made regarding this tbph.

edit:

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM057]

- The opening is outdated (I assume it'll change/get updated once the UB arc starts)

- Let's face it, the one who is truly to blame for the events of the episode is the delivery man who delivered the washing machine to the wrong place

- It's too convenient that the appliances that the other cast members have look like the appliances from the games (Whereas in DP105, the appliances looked normal)

- Not surprised nothing came of the Marshadow cameo given Wash deleted it

- That being said, Jigglypuff's appearance this episode wasn't really needed either. Randomly putting a Mudbray to sleep and drawing on it.

- That ending was dumb, Pokemon centre Rotom...

edit 2 (Friday 19th):

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM058]

- Jessie commenting on the rarity of a female Frillish, forgetting that she obtained one in Best Wishes. *facedesk*

- I will say this though, why the funk was Bewear making ambulance noises? I know Jessie was asking about getting a doctor or James, but still...

- The flashbacks between James/Mareanie wer touching, and I wasn't surprised James was willing to let her go to be with her former love (who even evolved for her), though I'm disappointed that nothing really came out of this episode (no new moves, etc).

- Not gonna lie, this might as well have been an Ash-less episode tbph (I know it was a TR-focused episode, but Ash didn't need to appear).

[spoiler great]

So now James has no Pokemon while Jessie still has Mimikyu. How is this fair?

[spoiler also]

I kinda wonder if Pheremosa's pheremones affect men and women.

And it will be neat to have some backstory on Mallow and Lana.

[spoiler=Response]

You do realise James still has Mareanie right? He didn't release it.

On another note, people have been speculating that Ash is gonna capture an Alolan Sandshrew as there was A-Sandshrew merch present alongside Torracat merch.

Two weeks worth of episode thoughts.

[spoiler=57]

  • Mistaken delivery of washing machine led to the mess-up that was Rotom moving over the place.
  • RIP picture of Marshadow.
  • Ash's friends were technically clueless to know that Rotom was in their appliances; least Mallow anyway.
  • Sophocles got frozen, so...
  • Last one was pretty dumb.

[spoiler=58]

  • Something about Mareanie dumping her senpai over a Corsola spike, and "cheating" on another one.
  • James tries to catch a Frillish, but fails because Mareanie overreacted.
  • What was that anime where guy manhandles animals with bare hands? Because that kinda applies to what James did to Tentacruel (the Pokémon) and I guess the bare hands fight with Toxapex.
  • Bewear ambulance noises...wut?

As for the spoiler pics, yeah Pokémon Power Rangers comes to mind (except a few people have doubts about how Ash looks in those clothes). Should be fun, and yeah, Litten finally evolves.

Well Lisa Ortiz has voiced Oshawott and Dewott. Maybe she'll voice Toracat.

I mean, we already got Alolan Persian shown, so suppose it is time for the Alolan Meowth. Though, still too early to guess if there will be some interaction between it and Team Rocket's one.

Oh right, and need to check if we got subs for last week's one; considering I had to watch it RAW on Thursday. Might be there, but idk.

Subs for last week's episode have been out since last Friday (at least on the site I normally use, though with the discussion in another thread, I should probs refrain from mentioning watching it on anime sites as it's technically piracy)

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM059]

- It was amusing to see Charjabug pushing Rowlet in the background

- We learn about how Mallow/Lana met and that Lana was rather shy and took some time getting used to Mallow (who was energetic as ever), though they still became fast friends.

- It was nice seeing Haban Berries play a large role in the episode in an episode involving a pokemon that would benefit from its effects (Drampa, being a dragon-type), in addition to its bitter taste as its bitterness was brought up in gen 4 and it being able to produce bitter Poffins.

- Meowth's "Boss fantasies" will never get old.

- Not gonna lie, I kinda forgot Drampa could learn Fly, derp.

- Team Rocket's disguise was stupid, and it certainly didn't fool Drampa whose response was rather amusing with the deadpan look on its face

- Now we can add "riding Twisters" to Bewear's list of completely unrealistic talents.

[spoiler=Thoughts on preview]

Sod off Sky Trainer, this is Alola, NOT Kalos!

Given the new rule, yeah, if someone posts a review of the episode, you can assume it's up SOMEWHERE on the net. But that's saved for another time while things are being worked out specifically.

[spoiler=SM059]

  • Drampa makes first appearance in anime; k.
  • I literally facepalmed at Team Rocket disguising themselves as children. Seriously, even Drampa was thinking "what the funk is this?"
  • Stuff about berries.
  • Rotom, quit jumping to conclusions.
  • Back story to Lana and Mallow; okay, that's kinda cute.

[spoiler=preview for totally not the 2018 PyeongChang games]

Yeah, this will be fun and Hala comes around with Crabominable.

Also making note about the Winter games because they're the week after this one airs. So...promo much?

Lillie-focused episode though, so...hopefully Snowball/Shiron gets some needed development.

New episode title

Episode 1006: Burn with Passion, Litten! Down with Incineroar!! (February 22nd)

This episode features Ash entering the Battle Royal to take on the Masked Royal.

EDIT:

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM060 (RAW)]

Yup RAW thoughts because anime sites mislabelled the episode as subbed when it wasn't.

- I figured that we'd see Crabrawler evolve on-screen, it'd have been random if he showed up with Crabominable

- Shiron learns Aurora Veil (which doesn't work unless there's Hail out... owait, Shiron apparently has that move as well), at least it got something out of this episode

- Sod off Sky Trainer, this is Alola, NOT Kalos!

- Ash's use of the Z-move backfiring was rather amusing tbph.

- Poor Team Rocket, they weren't even up to no good in this episode. They were there to compete and yet Bewear shows up during Jessie's turn and carry them off anyway.

- So Hala won the whole thing, shame the prize looked trash, though I'm surprised that Lillie didn't make the top 3, then again she got character development.

- RIP Kiawe, Kukui and Hala, getting colds.

Also, poster for the next arc; showing Nanu, Acerola and the UBs.

[spoiler=SM060]

  • One episode on 'Ula'ula Island and mostly to show Hala evolving Crabrawler and Snowy learning Aurora Veil.
  • Something about Ash backfiring with the Z-move; uh Ash, it would've helped if Pikachu was facing BACKWARDS to provide forward thrust.
  • IDK, Lillie and/or Kiawe should've placed instead of those randoms.
  • funk Bewear at this point; Jessie was having a good time and sheet happened with it.
  • Oi Jump Master, you sure you're not that fisherman from the Waterium-Z Trial? Because you lying through your teeth.
  • Hala won, but prize was shiiiiiit.
  • Kukui wearing only a bigger coat...that's OPEN, lul.

New opening should be fun.

Now to go watch the subs if they're available; haven't checked yet.

*looks* So we're getting a new OP? Good! 'bout time tbph as in terms of visuals, current one is outdated. Though I've seen quite a few people say; "I'm expecting capture/evolution spoilers in the opening." which doesn't surprise me.

There's also gonna be a new ending theme as well, and I'm also gonna say 'bout time regarding that.

EDIT: New episode titles;

Episode 1007: Ash and Passimian! A Touchdown of Friendship!! (March 1st)
Episode 1008: Ilima and Eevee Have Ilimade Their Entrance!! (March 8th)

The first episode features Ash encounter groups of Passimian who are feuding with groups on other islands. The second features the entrance of Ilima

[spoiler=SM061]

  • Go Go PokéRangers (uh, I've seen people compare it to Sailor Moon and some other costumed hero series, but you pick)
  • Jessie & James were stupid enough to get attention, and Bewear had to take them away. Even Meowth had common sense.
  • Buzzwole flexing and dabbing for a minute straight, and Ash/Pikachu/Kiawe copying them. (Are you sure they weren't watching the meme videos on YT for this?)
    • I'm going to have a nice laugh if the dub makes a swole joke about this, but I doubt it since little kids don't understand it in common applications.
  • Ash should've kept Buzzwole, but it's an invasive species in the animeverse.
  • Pikachu knows Poipole exists, but no one else does.

[spoiler=New Opening/Ending]

Opening was cute.

Ending is iffy.

Also reading over the Bulbapedia thread on today's episode (or yesterday for bulk of you right now), someone's blowing up about how this episode breaks from the Slice of Life thing.

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM061]

- Buzzwole appears in MeleMele meadow, that's pretty accurate to the games.

- So Lusamine transformed the school into a Power Ranger-esque base, wow. Then there's the Power Rangers/Sailor Moon transformation sequence...

- I should've guessed the Bewear/Buzzwole fight would amount to nothing after Jessie/James got Bewear's attention (at least Meowth had some common sense)

- The way the Alolan Exeggutor retracted their necks in preparation of the Ultra Guardians was a reference to Thunderbirds when the palm trees move during the launch of Thunderbird 2.

- Buzzwole was vain as funk, constantly flexing its muscles n' junk, then again it was portrayed perfectly. Although the Ash/Kiawe/Buzzwole sequence was somewhat amusing, but dragged on a bit.

- With Full Restores and Max Potions appearing, Hyper Potions are the only potions not to have appeared in the anime

- At least the berries the Ultra Guardians got were put to very good use... restoring the... deflated Snorlax

- This is the first time in like 800-odd episodes in which Ash has captured something in a ball that isn't a pokeball (the last time was Beedrill in the Bug Catching Contest)

EDIT: corocoro stuff

corocoro3182.jpg

So as many suspected based on the initial trailer, Lugia is to take part in the new movie in some manner. It also states that next month, the issue of CoroCoro will reveal an important scoop on Lugia and to pay extra attention to Lugia this year.

[spoiler=SM062]

  • TR got played like fools this episode, and essentially ended up being a ladder for Alolan Meowth to go to HQ.
  • Meowth blows up over Jessie eating his rare ice cream. Well, can't blame him for being pissed.
  • Mimikyu's grudge with Pikachu cost TR their plans and getting Z-moved.
  • Ohai Oranguru and the Pokemon bar again.

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM062]

- RIP Kukui's attempts at saving money, then again he only got 12 seconds of screentime :Kappa:  .

- Meowth was pissed because Jessie at his 1-per customer rare ice cream. Understandable, but trivial. (At least Jessie offered to get a replacement)

- Quick Balls make their debut here, and ofc it'd belong to James.

- Alolan Meowth praises TR on being magnificent trainers and notes that TR needs a Z-Ring to use the Darkinium Z (with James recalling the last time they attempted this).

- How crafty, removing part of Mimikyu's disguise to give Meowth nightmares

- Oranguru should get a job as a therapist since it has to listen to everyone's problems (pretty much their reason to visit the bar apparently)

- Meowth tried to screw Alolan Meowth over, but gets screwed himself by Jessie/James' plan (who assumed Meowth was bait), RIP

- Of course Alolan Meowth would have Thunderbolt. Reminds me of Tyson's Meowth (Who Meowth also hated) having the move in AG.

- Mimikyu freeing Pikachu due to the grudge funked up TR's plans, kek.

- funking Bewear dude, using leaves to "fly" and save TR from a potential blast off (How I miss those days).

- In the end, Meowth buggered off to Team Rocket HQ and was made Matori's assistant, shame those who watch the dub will not find out how it managed to get there as the reveal of using Meowth's savings to buy a plane ticket to Kanto was in the post credits scene.

EDIT: New episode title

Episode 1009: Smashing with Sketch! The Fierce Poké-Ping Pong Match!! (March 15th)

This episode features Ilima and his Smeargle playing ping pong. (and yes, the ping pong episode from DP came to mind, and will likely not be referenced at all, that's what I think at least)

EDIT:

A voice cast list for SM064 confirms that Litten evolves in SM063.

[spoiler=SM063]

  • Yeah, Litten evolves.
    • Then again, it got its ass beaten twice. Even Kukui mentioned during the first encounter "Why you trying to fight an opponent far above your level?"
  • Let me see what kind of flaws the 3 trainers at the start of episode had:
    • Guy with Decidueye tried to use a GHOST move on a Fire/DARK type. Uh, bad move bro (then again, it's not like you had much of a choice because I doubt this guy taught it Brave Bird)
    • Machamp decides to Bullet Punch, which is 1/2 effective. (Baka, you are a Fighting type; explain why it didn't occur to you to use STABs)
    • Girl with Primarina did it properly (except Sparkling Aria is only good for in-game; would be nice if it didn't heal burns [but this is going into competitive])
  • Then again, the Z-move would really only murder Decidueye in application, unless Incineroar was overleveled like mad and/or the challengers didn't train properly. You can take stabs at how they all got killed.
    • I mean, sometimes I use moves that aren't effective in-game, but that's because I overlevel enough to know that even on a resisted hit, I have enough power to KO / severely maim the target.
  • Now let's see what the problems were with Ash's friends.
    • Oh wait, nothing much except using NFEs / LC tier sheet on Ash and Sophocle's ends (then again, Sophocles is legit screwed because both of his 'mons are weak to Fire).
    • Kiawe did okay with Bonemerang, but just got outsped.
  • Oh hello training montage from episode 10 for Flame Charge. (Got Ash a few weird looks though)
  • Ash sees Royal Mask in laundry; only Pikachu figures out that Kukui is actually the Royal.
    • * insert reaction pic here about Ash not getting it *
    • Then again, Burnet mentions the Royal at the end and Kukui jerks.

Oh right, and Kadomatsu had better "ENJOYS" than Kukui.

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM063]

- Lazy-ass designs on the Decidueye/Primarina trainers (dressng like them), but even so Incineroar pwned the lot of them with its Z-move.

- The Battle Royal seems to work differently to the games (in the games Battles Royals end when a trainer has no 'mons remaining, here it's last man standing)

- Team Rocket saying they have MC experience (which is a nice call back to them being reporters from previous series), so continuity here

- Litten sensed who Masked Royal was from his smell, and said nothing (what a wise cat)

- Litten sensing Incineroar wasn't going all out, though Kukui wondered why Litten wanted to all out (then again Ash noted that it's a battle and there's no point if you don't go all out).

- Of course Alola! would be used in the training montage to try to learn Flame Charge, though Lycanroc's method got a few weird looks.

- Not gonna lie, I think Torracat didn't have any business winning in the rematch, so I'm glad it lost the second time as it established a rivalry (like Kukui mentioned) between it and Incineroar as a motivation to get stronger, plus it broke a trend that previous series had (like with Tepig/Pignite vs Emboar in BW and Fletchling/Fletchinder vs Talonflame in XY).

- It's a rarity to see a SM episode with Team Rocket and no Bewear (the last time being the Aether arc), though it didn't have any business showing up seeing as Team Rocket was doing an honest days work MC'ing.

- Oh and the ED was updated to reflect Litten's evolution.

- Pikachu notices Masked Royal's mask in the post credits scene, and ofc Ash fobbed it off as a replica like Sophocoles'.

[spoiler=SM064]

I did find a subbed version somewhere, but because the ads wouldn't go away whenever I tried to watch it, yeah, stuck with RAWs. You can find it on your own. Please note that I only said the episode exists somewhere, but never said WHERE it was found.

  • Something about Pokémon equivalent of rugby/football and the Passimian troop being subordinates to that other team or something.
    • Then again, we do not have the former in the United States [or not widespread] so...
  • Ash in character for this, but how the hell they actually understood him remains to be seen.
  • Things apparently end well, but Ash becomes the new boss.
  • No capture here, but meh.
    • Suppose I kinda have some incentive to actually breed a proper one in-game, but that's another discussion.

[spoiler=Thoughts on SM064]

- Of course the Passimian would mistake Rowlet for the fruit (That pissed Rowlet face though)

- To be fair, the only reason Ash was obligated to help is because he caused the issue in the first place by allowing the reds to take the fruit

- Kiawe was aware about the red Passimian due to them raiding his ranch in the past

- Ash became in-character to help (thanks to Lillie, Mallow and Lana making the costume of course)

- At least the entire troop banded together to beat the reds

- When Ash got carried away by the Passimian, he said "what even is this feeling." just like when Bewear carries Team Rocket away.

- It was implied that Ash became the new boss, but there's a discrepancy with that as Joy mentions post-credits that Tiny (the green-marked helmet Passimian) became the new boss.
