What Should I Host Next? [Interest Check]

Recommended Posts

Alright so I got the urge, the itch, the desire to...work on an RP. Now I have had three main ideas of things I'd like to do and so this was how I thought would be best to choose.

Reminder that I don't know when I'll make it. I am a busy cow. Most likely around the start of next year at earliest. I just wanted to have this here so that I can.

1. Get an idea what people want

2. Work on things for whatever idea seems popular

Both my RPs currently on-going didn't have much planning but I want to try and plan more for this one. Especially considering the style of RP they will all be.

It's important to note that "amount of votes" is not the only thing I'll look at. I'll also look at who voted for what. Because, as some know, I skim basically all RPs and have some idea of how most of you RP and how consistent you are. So my decision will reflect that.

And another, very important, factor...comments. I want to know why you like one idea more. Or don't like the others so much. A voter who comments and gives decent amount of thought on it will be paid attention to more.

And on that note seriously don't vote if you wouldn't join.

That being said, and this is somewhat vague descriptions yes, the RPs.....

Gijinka High: My best RP atm is the Gijinka one. A Gijinka, in this case, is basically a humanized personification of Pokemon. Gijinka High would be set in the same world as that RP, but a different reality. It will be modernish and the main setting will be a high school. One where you will play...Legends. The cast will consist of children of Legendary Pokemon who are set to become Legendaries when they get older. The idea is they were transfered to a public school in order to get an idea of what the Non-Legend Gijinka are like. And to better understand their problems.

The RP will basically be a slice-of-life and focus mostly on interaction, and high school related events, drama, and relationships. The goal is technically to learn about the character's Non-Legend classmates and integrate with them but how this is gone about will be up to the players.

IFNH 2.0: This was my first, failed, RP. An open-world Fantasy RP where basically you were allowed to be almost any kind of character, within reason, you wanted. Where silliness and strange logic was abound and it didn't take itself seriously in the slightest. It originally was somewhat action focused but for this iteration it will be more along the lines of....Adventurers On A Break. Basically it would focus on, again, slice-of-life stuff but in a zany, over-the-top, fantasy world instead. This RP is at once the most casual of the bunch and also the most strict. Because it failed once and I will not let that happen again. The flaw of over-the-top silly in an RP is people can go way too far and burn out fast. That won't be the case here. Weird things and ridiculous logic would be allowed but it will have to be done RIGHT. There is no goal except to explore the country-sized Centra City and interact with each other and the wacky NPCs I'll provide. There will be "quests" but most of these will be things such as "find my missing puppy" and "get me a bathtub".

RP Smash: Possibly the oddest of the bunch. And also the simplest. You all know Smash Brothers I'm sure. The Fighting game where you play as various Nintendo characters. Well this will be like that....somewhat. The setting will be a massive arena and apartment complex where fighters from various worlds were sent in order to compete. There will be RPer vs RPer, RPer vs NPC, and event matches. However combat IS NOT THE FOCUS. It will happen, fairly often, but it's not the focus. The focus once more will be the stuff between matches. Exploring the world you were thrust into, interacting with each other, and various events that I will come up with. Perhaps a party, an interview, a day at the beach, many possibilities. The combat will be a means to gain "points" with which to buy things. Tickets to a concert, stuff for your room (customization!), and many other things I will come up with.

Oh and the last bit....The roster will be entirely characters from RPs you've been in. We will work together to balance the abilities so that any kind of character will be able to be in this. The characters will be ripped straight out of the RP that they were in and deposited in this strange new world.

There you have it, thoughts, comments, and votes please! Any questions can be asked here if elaboration is wanted.

Note: If undecided but want to watch the Poll go on the last option is okay. I will pester you to vote eventually though~

I lean most towards INFH 2.0 most so it's what I voted for. Though I do so hesitantly given my pathetic attempt at participating in the first one. I'll try to give a bit of thought about each idea though.

Personally gijinka's not very appealing. Pokemon in general is hard for me to want to RP. But also making it a high school slice of life just really turns me off of it. High school, while not bad, wasn't a particularly fun time of life so rping it isn't my definition of fun. That and I've seen quite a few academy/high school rps and while I know you'd host them differently there's not much experience on the good side of things there for me. So of the three this one appeals least to my preferences. It sounds like a fun idea if that's what people like of course.

For INFH 2.0 I like the idea of good cast interactions and just focusing on that. Because while I love Chosen I feel we were really slow to start getting good cast interactions going. They're often really enjoyable and an adventure to compliment them sounds lovely. Of course as I mentioned I hesitate to jump on board the idea just because of how I handled the first iteration and certainly wouldn't want to let you down a second time on it were I to choose to participate. I worry about just how open ended it might be as that's a struggle for many an RPer. In the first on top of not being super attached to my character the lack of a general direction of what to do made it difficult to want to post. I've since had experience in Chosen where I could just ask you the host what doing something does of course so that'd be a bit better. I see myself enjoying this idea the most of the three just nervous given the history with it.

For RP Smash I really like the idea but also get worried when I see tournament styled RPs. Most any I've ever encountered die real fast while a fight's going on because it only engages two RPers while that fight is happening. Now if the fights themselves aren't the focus I don't know how'd that change. Actual player vs player rp fighting is something I haven't done in a long time and it sounds fun as does bringing in a character from a past RP. Idea sounds solid just worried about the execution is all.

RP Smash would be hilarious. XD Though I wonder how a character whose primary method of moving being flying would work?

Well the combat would be more HP based so no worries if that's the issue. I'd think that there would be a sort of limit in each Stage for how high one can fly.

These are all pretty cool ideas for RPs that I could see myself joining. I like how they aren't the shonen-style RPs that are very common here. Personally, I lean more towards the Gijinka High mainly due to me being a sucker for that setting, but it is really close between all three of them. Besides that one I'm fairly undecided which one I like seecond - both IFNH 2 and Smash RP sound really fun to do.

I've previously skimmed through your Gijinka RP, and I love the rich background behind it. I'm pretty annoyed at the fact that I missed SUs. The high school would be pretty awesome to have all of that great backstory in a modernized setting. I've never participated in a Slice-Of-Life RP before, but this should be interesting.

INFH sounds extremely interesting. You can literally be anything you want within reason? No overall goal? FANTASY? Sign me up! I believe that I'd really enjoy being in this one, going on small and quirky adventures with a crazy set of characters.

RP Smash is kind of bittersweet for me. On one hand, fighting anything within reason sounds pretty cool, but in the other hand, every character that I've created can't really stand up to most others. My choices would be limited to...

-A couple of Yugioh Duelists

-A couple of Pokémon Trainers who only have Level 5 Pokémon

-A child of a Greek goddess, who doesn't even know of his powers yet

-And an eight year old girl

I'm voting for Gijinka High, for two reasons,

-I believe it won't die quickly

-And it seems the most fun out of the three

I'm voting the Gijinka High.

Why? Well for a few reasons:

  1. A Smash RP, sad to say, there have been some in the past and they have fallen flat on their faces. Why? I'm not entirely sure, but its something that I don't think will work well in an RP sense.
  2. INFH being an open world fantasy RP. Something like that had been done before *looks at Cherry Heart and sighs* We all know how that turned out. I don't necessarily think this option would be bad, its just I wouldn't want it to fall away like CH did.
  3. I didn't get a chance to apply for the other Gijinka RP and this one dealing with Legendaries, its even better.
  4. Its a High School setting. For some reason, we don't see enough of this genre. Probably because they usually all die off. However, I think they would need to come back. Right now, iirc, the only high school-esque RP we have going is Quantum's Fragment, and even with it...its shonen as all get out (its my RP, go figure lol) ((And the Duel Academy RPs don't count as High Schools)).

For the gijika rp two qeustions, 1.Will you be including the mysical pokemon with the legendarys, 2.would you be able to play a secound non-lengandary charater. Other then that it seems pretty worked out, also I did like the premess of the original

INFH also seems like a fun idea, the only thing I'm having trouble withare the quests, will these exaple quests have a wackier overtone, will there be more wackier quests? Otherwise I don't thing they fit the theme

As fot the RP smash, like the other two I like the Idea but have some questions, will we be able to use charaters that we made a fully intended to use and posted in the OOC complete, but the rp it self never started, (and probably never will, Ex.Bob from pokemon mystery duegeon: Pristine lands.)

Voting for Gijinka High but I'm down for Smash as well. I'm a little leery of reboots so not so sure about IFNH 2.0 tbh.

I like Gijinka: The Fallen God and haven't done a highschool RP ever aside from Clockwork Souls which never really took off so yeah interested in the idea. Also Smash I got more interested in after remembering a character that didn't get to be used that much that I really liked.

RP Smash seems pretty neat, but would we be able to use characters from off-site RPs? The only two characters I have from here are both pretty vanilla humans, so IDK how well they'd fit in.

I would prefer ones that are all here for uh. Reasons. >.> But if you must you must. However the vanilla humans thing we could probably make it work. (I mean think about it,in Smash people like Mario fight people like Ganondorf)

I won't not allow it though but I'll need a source and keep in mind that whatever site you're taking them from might have...different standards than I do.

To be clear you can take them at a later point in the timeline where they are stronger. Alternatively the Yugioh Duelists may be able to, idk, summon things. Kinda like Zelda's Darknut attack or something.

Erm. 1. Who are the mystical Pokemon? 2. No. I also should mention here that all of these will likely be limited acceptance (some might be more lenient) because I know what a large cast can do to an RP or host >.>

On IFNH: Oh trust me those examples are plenty wacky but I can't exactly spoil it all :3

On Smash: Yes you could indeed. Granted I'd prefer them to have been established characters but it's still possible.

3. Smash RP: Never been a fan of the franchise. Pass.

I know I am quoting a lot about Smash RP but it seems to be the one with most uncertain things.

Basically quoting to say that it's not really "connected" to the franchise. If that's the concern.

So far it seems Smash and Gijinka High are in a tie sheesh. XD Very interesting. Maybe I should do both

Gijinka High. I like the original, so this could be fun, even if we are playing legends and not our original characters.

Huh? You'll be making the characters still.

Unless you mean the Gijinka RP characters in which case yeah no that would be unfair to those not in the RP.

Okay so it seems clear IFNH isn't the preferred by far.

On Sunday I will screenshot the Poll results (with names of those who voted which) and remove the Poll. Then we will move this into an open discussion to decide on which we will do. If IFNH doesn't have at least half of the second place RP (atm that would mean, rounding up, 4 votes) it will be removed from the equation.

That being said here's some thoughts on pros and cons to each, from my perspective as host.

Gijinka High

Pros:

+ A setting that is pretty simple to create.

+ A setting that allows for structure in a non-forced way.

+ Many possibilities for NPCs

+ A new way to express characters (No combat, no grand evil, just every day life)

+ Gijinka are cool okay?

Cons:

- Ironically I have little experience writing this setting

- Possibly TOO structured. Classes can be skipped (writing wise) after the first day but most of character's day will be spent in-class so doesn't give as much time to realistically do what one wants.

- A lot of things to keep track of

- I actually don't have many ideas for events yet

- Events have to be quite specific for the setting

IFNH

Pros:

+ I know this world well. Heck I wrote half a book in it (I need to get back to that...)

+ The most laid back of the RPs

+ I can come up with near infinite events

+ Can allow people to create their own places and such

+ Not very limited character creation

Cons:

- It failed once before

- World may be too open

- No clear goals at all

- Players hard to keep together (maybe solve with some sort of guild?)

Smash

Pros:

+ Ease of access. Only small tweaks would need to be made. Plus optional changes. (mostly involving if you want the character to arrive after a certain amount of time passed in the RP they're from and such).

+ Able to explore a character you liked in a new way (or use one you didn't get to before)

+ I have a huge cast of potential NPCs to choose from

+ Already have events thought of and more can come easily

+ Customization for your characters' rooms

+ A setting that allows for some structure but also some leeway

+ Ability to easily battle when the urge strikes

Cons.

- RPer vs RPer battles rely on two people (obvious statement is obvious)

- If all characters are busy with combat/events interaction can be rough

- Have to create a currency system (this is gonna be tricky ngl)

- Less wiggle room for characters in the sense that you have a set of characters you can use

- Some instances of only interacting with host for relatively lengthy periods of time (event matches)

- Entirely unfamiliar setting

Pros and cons? Awesome! Makes things easier...

Anyway, you not knowing or having any experience in writing within the HS setting isn't bad. Especially if you associate yourself in the RP with those who have. A possible progression and development can take place. Not only this, but it'll be another SoL RP...but with Legendary Pokémon Gijinkas.

However, because there isn't exactly any conflict, you could venture to guess that some people might have a hard time enjoying themselves (since now our RPs have become saturated in conflicts and fights).

Yeah that's one issue. People do really get more active with conflicts. Which is what made me think of the other two. SoL but with possibilities for more conflict and fighting if desired. But really it's tough. All the ideas are ones I want to try.

Well, for Gijinka, its a HS setting...and I'm fairly certain there will be classes dealing with battling. So there would still be conflict/fighting if the need arises.

As for the other ideas, I've seen some Smash RPs dying due to its basic style...so trying to implement it into a text based RP could result in some very slow progression.

And for IFNH, I don't have a problem at all with the fantasy RP setting, but my thing comes back to Cherry Heart. I fear for something dealing with a guild and actions in that direction. I really don't want to see another CH die like that.
