This card is a submission suggestion for this thread's project: https://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/359226-cc-starter-deck-project/

EARTH Level 2 [Aqua/Pendulum/Effect] ATK/ 400  DEF/ 400  Scale 1

Pendulum Effect:

You can Normal Set 1 monster, in addition to your Normal Summon/Set (you can only gain this effect once per turn).

Monster Effect:

During either player's turn: You can Tribute 1 monster to target 1 face-up non-Tuner monster on the field; the target gains 400 ATK and DEF and becomes a Tuner.

- - - - - - - - -

This is an attempt to complete a full Scale for the card pool.

I don't know how the mechanic would affect the overall speed of the whole format if it were to be fully fledged as it is IRL, so for now it is playing safe.
Your choice for Scales are basically 1 and 3, meaning only Level 2 monsters can be Pendulum Summoned (mainly this card and Penguin Soldier at the moment I post this). The card is supposed to provide Tribute fodder for, what at the moment is just Chthonian Emperor Dragon's Tribute Summon and Fairy Tail - Sleeper's effect.

Despite its currently restrictive use up there, it is a Double Summon, it can become Double Cyclone fodder if needed, and it can boost up monsters' ATK. I know 400 isn't much but with the current pool we have at the moment, it should still make enough of a difference to bring down monsters you'd otherwise be unable to. It's effect requires a Tribute as to counter the swarming capabilities of the mechanic (not as is right now, but down the road if this project succeeds enough to get sequels to expand on).

Thoughts, comments, suggestions please~

I love the artwork and that it is an axololt; I have a thing for amphibians, after all. The name is kinda cute too xD a kind of nod to "Toadally Awesome"? Not to mention that as an Aqua it can be used as Xyz material for Toadally.

I know this card is intended for your Project, but damn I wish it was tailored for TCG because the extra Set effect would be welcomed in some decks.

I like how as a Pendulum Monster it can act as a recurring 400 ATK booster + Tuner converter. Also I like how in the project it combos nicely with Brachios and Sleeper:

1. Activate this in a Pendulum Scale

2. Set Sleeper

3. Normal Summon Brachios

4. Brachios activates its effect on Sleeper, flipping it up

5. Sleeper activates its Flip effect

Ending with 3 monsters on the field; a really big play IMO considering the intended power level of the project.

I don't like that piercing drawback; it feels completely unnecessary when this card is far from strong.

I find weird trying to review this card because some effects could be improved for the TCG format, while they are better left untouched for your Starter Deck Project. Also, strange to see you suggest a Tuner converter when no Synchro has yet to be officially added to the pool of the Project.

Anyway, in addition to removing the piercing drawback altogether, for TCG play I suggest the following:

- OPT and Tensu clause on the additional Set effect.

- Make the field effect a Quick Effect: this will be interesting by putting extra damage on a monster during either player's turn, or during the Battle Phase through plays like:

1. Have this and other monster the field.

2. Attack with this (for puny 600 damage).

3. Before the other monster attacks, chain this to tribute itself and add +400 ATK to the attacking monster.

It was an entirely accidental name. I sorted through 40 pages of art looking for creatures, until I found this one.

It is a pair so my idea was "1 for Pendulum Effect and 1 for Monster Effect". Though, it's funny that Toadally Awesome! does have a lot in common with it xD

OMG, Brachios can do that!? I thought that he ought to have some sort of Black Rose Dragon clause where a monster already in the position the effect wants to change it into, won't be a legal target for it. I thought the only chance Brachios had at flipping something up was with Darkness Approaches lol.

Are you positively sure Brachios can do it? If so, I'm gonna go test Brachios right now with a few things xD

I actually intended for the monster effect to be a quick effect. Somehow I think I was very tired when I did the card and missed it.

Even for this format in the works it'd still be fine. It causes a replay if you wanted to use it as an Honest, it permanently makes the monster a Tuner so you can't target the same monster twice with this effect, and disrupting Synchros (in the future) by turning an opponent's non-Tuner monster into a Tuner was another idea I had.

I'll make it a quick effect.

I'll also get rid of the piercing bit. It was just to be safe because a recurring defense position monster just for the extra wall could or could not be beyond the format's power level? Though what's important is, you are the second person to tell me that about the pierce (my brother IRL). That is about enough consideration to nod xD

Tensu clause?

Well, Brachios' effect states that it changes the monster to Defense Position and specifically face-up, so a Set monster should still be a proper target, despite it already being in Defense Position.

With Tensu clause I meant the (You can only gain this effect once per turn). You know, the standard PSCT on extra-Normal Summoning effects.

I see. That's pretty neat. So a position is treated as a different position if the monster is face up/down. That's good to know.

It also means I wanna try Brachios in a few things IRL now.

About the Tensu clause, I've noticed +Normal Summon effects sometimes have it. What's the difference between the "you can only gain this effect OPT" and "you can only use this effect of [name] OPT"?

Though in any case. time for an update (just gimme a couple minutes before the OP updates).

Not sure how to explain it with the correct terminology, but putting it simply, an Extra Normal Summon/Set effect is different to an usual "activatable" effect in that it is more of a continuous effect you acquire and can use at any point during your Main Phase, or not use it at all. Hence the different PSCT and wording that you can only gain the effect once per turn, as opposed to the "use this effect". Also, I believe this clause applies on all cards with the same effect. For instance, if there were 2+ different cards that give an Extra Normal Summon, you would only be able to gain the effect once per turn regardless, unlike the other hard OPT clause that is bound to the card's name.
