"Well I'm not here to lecture ya. But I can tell you I appreciated having people around." Cyanthrax scoffed as the minotaur got closer.ย "Maybe you're different but the dark times can get heavy without someone there to help lift." His tone was much more serious than before. He could swear that there was something in the manbeast's eyes, but whatever it was seemed to disappear as soon as it appeared.ย "Well I should get going to the rest laddie, don't want to drive away my best customer with my old man rants, Gwaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha!"ย The demon turned to look at the others, completely forgetting about the other patrons.
ย
"Eh? Whatever." He took another swing of his drink as the stranger went on to attend the others at the bar. The drink reminded him of the first day he had gotten here, when the drinks were free. He could feel himself getting slightly buzzed, although he was fairly far away from actually being drunk. "Heavy without someone, huh?" He thought a bit about what he had been told, before shouting to no one in particular. "Please! I've had to go through heavy times on my own because I made friends! What a fucโ€‹king mistake..." He remembered the times he spent with his friends, specifically the first time he had met Pearson. "...maybe that's a bit harsh..." He mumbled, taking another sip of his drink. Or at least he tried to, as the cup was empty. He cursed under his breathe, sliding the cup across the bar table. He sighed deeply, remembering the good times he had with both the rats and the sins, before cracking a small grin. "Maybe he had a point..."

Aria

ย

Aria gently and slowly floated down the length of the pool, every now and then moving her arms and giving her a small boost through the water. It had felt like ages since she had last swam; actually swam. The water in Lore never felt completely real. They did their best to make it look like real water, but as with everything else in that game it felt off. However, after several minutes in the water, Aria could feel herself finally begin to calm down. She should probably go and find Angela at some point, once her match was done. Maybe let her know about the pool? Would it even be a good idea to let Angela know about the pool?

ย

As Aria drifted down the pool, her eyes lazily rested on the lifeguard that could be described as just barely paying attention to what was going on. In her relaxed state, Aria's curiosity was piqued, and she gently swam over to near the lifeguard's tower, looking up at the fish-man from where she was down below.

ย

"So what's a fish-dude like you doin' up here?"ย She asked.ย "I get that you're prolly a much better swimmer than us, but your job doesn't look very fun."

"Who ish yu? An' haw yu nawsh mai naimsh?"

She watched as the Dog Not!NetMonster carefully stood up onto his front paws after uncovering his ears, listening intently to his answer...

...though her silver leaf-ears were pinned back after he was done.

"Anafew me," she asked with a growl on her tone. "Dewe'sh anofew me dat'sh fowdid hew weengs an' sewvesh een ah non-combatsh wae?"

When the hound replied in the affermative, she stretched out her own wings and snarled. "Yu wie!"

Electricity surrounded Tesability in increasing amounts, rage building in her as it did. As she roared before hopping forward and zooming towards the canine, the electricity around her became blinding, leaving her surrounded in pure white that hid her entire appearance.

Before she connected with the canine, all of the screens that had been showing the pair were whited out, the only sound being the crackling of the NetMonster's electricity.

When the white finally faded after almost a minute, Caleb was left on the ground unconscious. Electricity crackled all throughout his fur and the collar had been fried, but he was otherwise fine.

And Tesability herself was shown with one wing outstretched, the other one looking like it was dragging against the ground as if it could not move on its own anymore. She sat on her hindquarters near Caleb, studying him for a moment...

Cyanthrax

ย

As the demon sat at the bar, while the day went on, the bar would become more and more busy. With people coming in after fights and after work. Some would talk with Tegur, some would try and dance, and others would attempt to flirt with Millie who would more frequently disappear into the kitchen.

He would overhear people talking about the fights. When it came to his own fight he would hear one thing more often than anything else. "What an jabroni. He's probably not so tough."

Aria

ย

"So what's a fish-dude like you doin' up here?"ย She asked.ย "I get that you're prolly a much better swimmer than us, but your job doesn't look very fun."

ย

"Fish-dude?" The lifeguard said with a brief annoyance. It passed soon and he looked apathetic once more. "Work isn't meant to be fun. I work here. This is the job Mauvache gave me. You're one of the fighters right? You should know just as well that you work with what you're given."

Tesability

ย

The online message boards practically exploded as the battlefield returned to default state. All with pretty much the same thing.

"Wtf"
"What was that?"
"Booooo"

"Boring boring boring"

"Hello? We can't SEE anything"

"Worst. Fight. Ever."

ย

And soon enough Tesability would receive a message from Mauvache telling her to meet her in her office at the top floor of the Arena.

Once the NetMonster made her way to the elevator and entered the room she'd immediately feel a different kind of electricity than she was used to pulsating through the room. Mauvache was standing in front of a desk with her arms crossed across her chest. "Never again." She rumbled. "I can deal with much but do not ever ruin the show for my viewers. I will not have someone bring such shame to this place again. Do I make myself clear? It will cost me to fix up the place so that can't happen again but cause something like this once more and you will be punished."

ย

He continued to sit at the bar while other patrons came and went, drinking away much like he was. He had ordered two other drinks, weaker than the ones than the one he had received from the beast man. The others around him seemed to get intoxicated much quicker than him, which was to be expected. It was a fairly normal day at the bar, although he had tuned out most of the outside world. Cyanthrax was instead lost in his own mind, reminiscing the past while calming down. What he did hear from the others were comments about the fights that had gone down. He didn't mind too much about the others; while it would be beneficial for him to hear how the others fight, the demon never cared for such advantages. What he did pay attention to, however, were people talking about his fight. Specifically, they were bad mouthing him.ย

ย

It didn't take very long for Cyanthrax to, essentially, snap. He slammed his fist onto the table, leaving a notable dent on the wood, as he got up. "If yer gonna talk sheet, ya best be doin' it in my face!" He turned around, facing the whole bar. While he wasn't drunk, the drinks were starting to get to him as he felt a bit buzzed. "Which one of you spineless fucks wants to say I ain't tough to my face, huh?!" He glared across the room, taking a stand on the bar table. "Well c'mon! Who's it gonn' be?!"ย

~Tesability's POV~

Beep. Beep. Beep.

ย

Once the Arena returned to a mostly-normal state, electricity still coursing through some parts of it, she heard a beeping sound from her watch. Peeking at it, she saw that she had a message from Mauvache, which caused her to tilt her head a little at this.

ย

"Wandew wha' shee wan'," she questioned to herself before stretching her wings and taking flight.

ย

~~~
ย
Once she approached the door to Mauvache's office, she had a foreboding feeling wash over her, unsure as to why. She rose a paw to knock at the door, but it opened on its own to reveal the woman she saw on the first day, arms crossed in front of her and standing in front of her desk.
ย
"Eep," she let out between her teeth at the sight as she lowered her head upon entering, revealing the back of her neck in an submissive pose. She felt a different current of electricity coursing through the room around her that stank heavily of magic, meaning that there would be no sudden exits from this room.
ย
"Never again," Mauvache rumbled, causing Tesability to gulp as her wings tightly folded into themselves. "I can deal with much but do not ever ruin the show for my viewers. I will not have someone bring such shame to this place again. Do I make myself clear? It will cost me to fix up the place so that can't happen again but cause something like this once more and you will be punished."
ย
"Ai sowwiesh," she whined, head almost level with the floor from the feeling of terror that the lady was projecting. Even against the Earth Human Boss NetMonster, the one whom she was the most screwed against but could never remember the name of, she never felt fear quite like this, but here...there was something unmatched that the Champion could not put a paw on. "Ai nu meansh tu du ah badsh..."
Aria
ย
"Fish-dude?" The lifeguard said with a brief annoyance. It passed soon and he looked apathetic once more. "Work isn't meant to be fun. I work here. This is the job Mauvache gave me. You're one of the fighters right? You should know just as well that you work with what you're given."
ย
Aria thought for a moment.ย "I mean, that doesn't mean it can't be fun,"ย Aria said, wondering aloud more than anything. Her expression darkened as she thought of what he said about knowing just as well as him.ย "I mean, my last fight was... anything but ideal... but..."ย But what? She was tilted in front of a supreme jabroni and humiliated in front of everyone who was watching that stupid program. There wasn't anything fun about that. But she had to work with what she got... and the fight against Angela wasn't nearly as bad as the one against Cyanthrax. As glamorous as this job seemed, being a fighter for entertainment, it wasn't all fun and games. But what good did it feeling this way about everything? Aria had been down that path before, and it wasn't one she wanted to go down again. ย "But, like, you can't just let the shitty stuff make it all worse."ย Aria let her legs sink down below the surface, and swam over to the pool's edge, propping herself up on her arms.ย "Like, there'll still be good times, it's not like anything is just all good or all bad, right?"
Cyanthrax
ย
The bar-goers gasped as Cyanthrax made his declaration.
"It's him"
"He's a drunk too?"
"Someone better step forward or he's gonna attack us all"
"What an animal"
ย
But it didn't seem like anyone wanted to take the blame for the words that had been said and Tegur was dealing with someone else on the other end of the bar.
ย
Then a feminine voice called out from a stool nearby. "Calm down why don't you? Didn't you get enough fighting in the Arena?" The voice belonged to A woman clutching a glass of whiskey who was looking at Cyanthrax with an amused smirk. "Why don't you sit back down and let's all continue to enjoy our drinks. No need for anyone to get hurt." Her eye flashed a bit dangerously and it was clear her request was at least in part a threat.
Tesability
ย
Mauvache scowled at the meek form in front of her. "Certainly not what one expects when they hear 'Dragon'." She remarked offhandedly. "But if you are truly apologetic then I suppose I can let it pass. Don't make me call you up here for this sort of thing again. That Julian didn't put any rebellious thoughts in your head did she? I can assure you there's no cause for such actions. As long as you do your job well you'll be rewarded in due time after all. And this is supposed to be fun for everyone involved."
Aria
ย
The lifeguard grunted along in agreement at what Aria was saying, while wondering internally when this odd human would go away and why she had chosen to dump this all on him.
She was silent for a moment and he realized he should say something. Though he wasn't all too interested in this conversation perhaps it would speed things along. "Just look for more good times then." He said simply. Though his tone wasn't the most positive. "If you can find them." He added. "Possibly somewhere else."
ย
And then there was a loud splashing noise. He looked up to notice that some kid had gotten tangled up in a floatie and was having trouble. He let out a groan and stood up, revealing that he was over six feet tall, and dove into the water.
He moved swiftly, incredibly, so, and so graceful that it would almost seem like he was dancing through the water. He reached the kid in record time and quickly deposited him on the edge of the pool before moving back to his post.
The kid's mother came up to them and began thanking him. He seemed uncomfortable with her words and was muttering about how it was just his job but she didn't seem to be going anywhere any time soon.
Xia vs Aurora - Part 1:
ย
As the dragon girl was able to freely move once again, the girl looked around with awe at the new place. The two of them seemed to be high, way higher than where she had been last time she fought. And if she remembered anything about last time, falling off might lead to her getting attacked by air sharks. Though, having never met air sharks before the girl was then curious about them. Shaking the thought off, though, Xia looked towards her opponent and waved saying, โ€œhiii! Nice to meet you Aurora! And good luck too!โ€ Cracking her knuckles, the girl went with a simple attack. Running head first at her opponent, with fists clenched.ย
ย
โ€œGood luck,โ€ Aurora greeted back as the dragon girl started charging forward. She had to admit, against an opponent more eager to run face-first into the fight, instead of sitting back and firing off lasers like Caleb had, Aurora felt much more at home and confident in the fight. The cryomancerโ€™s foot slammed into the rock beneath her feet, prompting a wall of ice to appear between her and her opponent. Youโ€™ll need it. Wall up, Aurora started preparing her own attack. A volley of no less than five spikes of ice, which she wasted no time in lobbing over the wall.
ย
Xiaโ€™s face lit up in curiosity as her opponent created a wall of ice in front of herself. While this was certainly surprising, neither it, nor the apparent ice spikes flying at her, stopped her charge. Dodging the first of the spikes, the girl then punched once with both of her fists, breaking two more of the spikes. However, this let the other two hit her across her arms, though outside of the momentary cold and pain, it deterred her little. As she made her way to the wall of ice, Xia merely punched at the wall with great force, attempting to shatter through it.ย
ย
A look of surprise briefly crossed Auroraโ€™s face as a hole was punched clean through her wall. It had been awhile since sheโ€™d seen that happen. She didnโ€™t want a punch to the face from this person, not that she was particularly eager to get hit by anyone in the first place. If sheโ€™s as strong as I think, twoโ€ฆ no, three punches will be all I can take. So itโ€™s just a matter of not letting her hit me. Easy. Aurora congratulated Xiaโ€™s wall-breaking strength by raising a hand in her direction, and firing off a beam of ice. Either it hit, or it missed and created a small pillar somewhere. This would be a long-term fight - as they usually were with Aurora - so she was fine with either outcome.
ย
As the wall before her broke, Xia saw a large swirl of cold appear in front of her. Keeping the forward momentum from breaking through the wall, Xia raised up an arm to take the ice beam, ice forming across it. However, without pausing from the attack, Xia continued to step forward and follow up with a punch from her unfrozen arm at the girl.ย
ย
Aurora blocked the incoming punch as best she could, but Xiaโ€™s raw strength - as she expected - was simply too much to handle. The cryomancer was sent hurtling back by the attack, and soon retaliated by firing off another ice beam at the dragon, stirring up an icy tailwind from behind her in the meantime. That should slow her, even if itโ€™s just a little bit. Aurora didnโ€™t like pushing herself, even if it was just a little bit, but this was quickly proving to be a fight where sheโ€™d have to go all-in. Even so, she wanted to ease into it a bit.
ย
As the girl went hurtling back, Xia saw that she was going in for a counter with yet another beam. Bringing up her already frozen arm, the girl blocked the beam with it, causing another layer of ice to form over it. Having a bit of trouble moving the arm around now, also being somewhat weighed down, her already none too quick speed was only slowed further by the cold wind being generated by her opponent. Nevertheless, this didnโ€™t stop her from continuing to single mindedly charge at Aurora, and attempting to punch her.
ย
There wasnโ€™t really any stopping her like this. But a plan was forming in Auroraโ€™s head. It would take a bit to set up, and if it failed sheโ€™d probably lose this fight, but getting it right could be a sudden win, if Aurora was imagining everything right. For now, she had to continue this keepaway game. In the now, with another attempt at a punch headed her way, that meant putting up a wall between herself and her opponent, and continuing to retreat as it quickly broke, firing off beams of ice aimed at the ground between herself and Xia. She could already feel a distinct chill running up her spine, and it didnโ€™t have much to do with the ice she was coating the ground between the two with so much as how it got there. Ground iced, Aurora continued firing off ice beams toward her opponent. She didnโ€™t really expect to stop Xia this time, but the plan had little to do with stopping her at this rate.
ย
With another wall put in her way, the girl merely crashed her unfrozen fist into it, breaking it down yet again. Continuing to move forward towards Aurora, Xia suddenly had her charge messed with, as she hadnโ€™t noticed the ice forming on the ground. And so, instead of running towards Aurora actually intending to attack, she instead started to slip and slide forward, not really in control of her forward momentum at this point.ย
ย
Itโ€™s something. Aurora saw the slipping opponent, and in it, an opportunity. A simple one, that only involved creating yet another wall not far ahead of Xia. In the meantime, she fired a pair of thinner beams off to her sides, forming a pair of spiked pillars of ice near the edges of the arena she and Xia found themselves in. Briefly glancing behind her to see how much more room she had to fall back revealed a cave not at all far. If she had to keep retreating, sheโ€™d definitely be in there before long.
ย
With yet another wall in her way, Xia tried to stop it as she had the other two, however with little control over her movement she merely crashed into the wall, landing on flat on her tail. Wincing a bit from the collision, the dragon girl started to pick herself back up, first punching the ice that encased her arm, freeing it up. She then went to break the wall in front of her with yet another punch, and started to run, albeit at an even slower pace towards Aurora once again.ย
ย
Aurora glanced over the battlefield. She surveyed how much of the ground had been covered in ice, and the two pillars at the end. Almost enoughโ€ฆ I think. Almost. For now, Aurora had to keep at bay the dragon girl approaching her, albeit slowed by the ice beneath her feet. Firing off more ice like sheโ€™d been doing so liberally up until now felt like a bad idea. She had to change it up. Aurora instead stirred up an icy gale, blowing it down the battlefield and into Xia. She didnโ€™t expect that to stop the advance entirely, but it would definitely slow her down some more with the ice to consider. For good measure, Aurora created a quartet of small shards of ice, firing them off at Xia and letting the tailwind speed them up a bit more.
ย
Feeling even slower from the icy headwind, the dragon girl was starting to move at a pace more akin to a brisk jog than an actual run. This was only put to a brief halt as she raised up her arms to brace herself against the ice shards crashing into her. She was making very little ground, which was somewhat upsetting to the girl yet she didnโ€™t really have a way to close the gap any quicker. Once she had finished blocking, the girl started to try and break out into a full run once more, her run being interrupted as it turned more into a dive towards the girl, slipping on the ice and falling forward at her.ย
ย
With Xiaโ€™s dive, Aurora found herself in the spot she least wanted to be in. Xia was right there, and Aurora was pinned to the ground by a dragon girl. But fighting on Rama-Indri in this arena, as Aurora learned yesterday, meant that the chills she gained from using her powers too much would fade. Sheโ€™d take advantage of that in ways she couldnโ€™t back home, starting here by creating a spiked igloo around herself and Xia, similar to what sheโ€™d done yesterday against Caleb. This time, however, in addition to that, she pointed both of her hands directly at Xiaโ€™s face, and fired off a pair of ice beams. โ€œIt wonโ€™t be that easy just because you caught me,โ€ she grinned.
ย
Pinning the girl to the ground, Xia had a smile on her face as she said, โ€œwoo, got ya!โ€ It was at this point that her joy was replaced with wonder as a spiked icy dome appeared around her, having her say, โ€œwhoooa, thatโ€™s so cool Aurora!โ€ As she looked at her opponent, though, she noticed that her hands seemed to be radiating with the same cold that they did she shot those weird cold beam things. Not wanting to be hit in the face by them, Xia attempted to try and shove Aurora forward and out from under herself, hoping to direct the ice girlโ€™s hands away from her face and more so towards her torso.ย
ย
As Aurora felt herself being shoved toward the wall of her own igloo, she did what any reasonable cryomancer would do. She scattered the bricks of her igloo, reassembling them into a spiked wall between herself and Xia as she felt a surge of cold wash over her. Her arms wrapped around herself on reflex. Iโ€™ll have to end this fast. With those bricks, that should be enough once I addโ€ฆ For good measure, Aurora fired off another pair of ice beams to her sides, creating another pair of pillars. Her teeth briefly chattered, as Aurora turned again. The cave was right behind her. Aurora clumsily walked into the cave, creating a row of icicles on the top of the entrance and a wall behind her.
ย
Xia felt an immense cold encase her body, as the beams struck her torso, the girl attempted to stand up still. Even if hampered, she saw yet another wall within her way and was not about to let it stand in her way. Getting on both of her feet, the girl sent a fist at one of the spikes at the wall, breaking it off. She then followed it up with another fist directed where she broke the spike off, breaking the wall before her. With that out of the way, the dragon girl followed after Aurora.
ย
Now! โ€œYou sure are strong,โ€ she sincerely complimented, briefly glancing behind Xia. That should be enoughโ€ฆ I think. โ€œI havenโ€™t fought anyone this strong in a while.โ€ Behind her opponent, Aurora began pulling the ice that coated the ground up, coming up in large pillars and small spikes alike. Above the two, she began to loosen the icicles hanging from the cave entranceโ€™s ceiling.
ย
โ€œAww thanks!โ€ Xia genuinely said at the compliment. โ€œI havenโ€™t fought any this cold or super awesome like, ever. Tes was kind of awesome, but not cold. But yeah, youโ€™re really cool too!โ€ After she complimented the girl, however, her attention then shifted to the now raising ice on the ground. Being both amazed but also worried about it, the girl tried to brace herself against it, only to then be hit by the ice raining from the top. Grimacing in pain as the ice shards slashed through her, the girl buckled a bit. When it was over, she was clearly wounded, frost covering most of her body as she seemed to be heavily breathing. โ€œMan, that was really awesome,โ€ her voice was weaker than before but still as peppy as ever. โ€œOh I know. I should do something awesome too!โ€ Standing back up, the girlโ€™s arm started to charge with a blue energy as a smile persisted on her face.
Aurora had a gut feeling. Whatever that energy around Xiaโ€™s arm was, it was bad news, and she didnโ€™t want to get hit by it. At the same time, more walls would wear her down faster than they would Xia. She had to rely on outspeeding the girl at this point, which wasnโ€™t an option either. Neither of them were speedsters, but it would be Aurora that got cornered at this rate. Even so, she glanced behind her, to the stairs opposite the cave entrance. Some faint noises were coming from down there, and she wasnโ€™t sure she wanted to tangle with whatever was down there, but it was that or stay face-to-face with somebody that would definitely win a face-to-face fight. Aurora needed to fall back some more. And so, the cryomancer fired off a spray of ice from her hand toward Xia, moving away from her opponent and toward the stairs, slowly starting down them as she stopped shooting.
ย
Continuing to focus her charge, the girl merely braced herself as the spray of ice struck her. However, with the charge complete, a dark blue glow seemed to be coming from Xiaโ€™s hand. Seeing her opponent move down the stairs, the girl followed after her, not really caring for any other traps her opponent may lay or what lied ahead.
ย
As the duo had made their way down the staircase, they would be greeted with the sight of two different factions going against each other. Two sides of five each, humanoid beings, fighting against each other. The people on one side had manes of flame across their necks, while the other had ones of lightning. Upon being seen, both of the fighters would see a notification appear. It told them that if either of them were able to defeat three fighters in one faction, the remaining members of the opposing faction would aid them in their fight.
ย
Iโ€™m not falling for that trick again. Aurora fired an ice beam not far behind her, at a nearby wall, and created a pillar of ice at the location. From her other hand, Aurora conjured forth a sword of ice. At this rate, sheโ€™d need it, being out of places to run from Xia. โ€œWhich ones do you want?โ€ she asked, turning her gaze toward her opponent, where it belonged.
ย
As Xia was prompted with the mission, she stopped in her tracks as her opponent asked her which ones she wanted. While she was pretty sure that they were supposed to be fighting each other, she figured her opponent knew better about what to do here and thus she decided to go and fight along with it. โ€œOh, oh. Iโ€™ll take the fight to the fire ones!โ€ With that, the girl charged, past Aurora, and towards one of the flaming humanoid, punching it square in the face. The creature was shocked at the sudden attack, but roared at her. Xia, in turn, let out a far more menacing roar then one would expect from her usual demeanor, before following up with another punch at the new opponent, knocking it down.
ย
Aurora had to admit, this didnโ€™t feel very hero-like at all. But the last time she tried to fight whatever was in an arena, she wound up paying for it with a loss. Yes, entertainment was more important than winning here - she was being paid to entertain after all - but she didnโ€™t want to lose her first two fights either. Sheโ€™d end up looking weak! And weak, Aurora was not. She wanted to win today, and to that end, she turned her attention to the newly-formed ice pillar in the wall, and commanded it on a collision course with Xia while her back was turned, moving in to follow up on it with an attack with her shiny new sword. If I donโ€™t end this soon, Iโ€™ll definitely be in a bad spot. Risks are meant to be taken though.
ย
After defeating her first opponent, Xia looked peppy and ready to keep fighting, saying, โ€œoh this is fun.โ€ It was then that she was taken aback by a sudden pillar crashing into her back. Letting out an, โ€œoof,โ€ as she stumbled forward from the sudden impact, the girl then felt a cold blade go through her. This was only made worse as the girl was hit from the front by two flamethrowers from the fire people, though, those didnโ€™t sting nearly as much. Turning around, confusion apparent on her face she said, โ€œoh I guess weโ€™re supposed to still fight each other?โ€ While she wasnโ€™t entirely sure, she decided to just go with the flow. Pulling back her fist, the dragon girl punched at Aurora. However, as the punch flew at the girl a burst of water and magic exploded out from her fist.ย
ย
Auroraโ€™s attempt to take Xia out while her back was turned had failed. As a result, Aurora got not only another fist connected to her body, but a burst of water as well. The impact was forceful enough that it knocked the cryomancer back, throwing her into the wall behind her. She imagined being thrown at a rock wall would have hurt a bit less than it actually did. Xia showed no real sign of tiring down. Did she even really feel the attacks Aurora was throwing at her? Win or lose, Aurora had to do this quick. Water on her was never good news. Time to win or lose this fight.
ย
Aurora conjured forth not one, but two swords of ice. Already the water on her hands was turning into a thin sheet of ice that coated her hands. Aurora started forward again, but suddenly threw one of her swords at Xia, also aiming her hand at the dragon to fire off what she imagined would be the last ice beam of this fight. She had to close the distance between her and her opponent, even if she didnโ€™t want to, since the plan now was to try and finish it off with a burst of damage from the thrown sword, the ice beam, and a decisive strike from the second sword.
ย
As Xia saw her opponent be knocked back, she could feel herself slowing down. It was a feeling that she wasnโ€™t too familiar with, but she remembered the fatigue that she had felt during her fight with Tes. Smiling, seeming to be having a blast with a fight, the girl knew that she had two different fights that she was in. The one with the fire people and the one with Aurora. And so, she decided to try and win both of those at once. Dodging one blast of fire, though getting by another, the girl grabbed one of the fire people while punching the flung sword out of the air. Tossing the fire person at the ice blast, he ended up tanking the attack instead of Xia, and thus the girl went to meet Aurora.ย
ย
Winding back up her fist, Xia went to punch as Aurora went to strike with her sword. However, because of the frost that had accumilated across her body and the general speed with which she moved, Auroraโ€™s sword met Xiaโ€™s body before her punch had met the cryomancer. With that, the fight seemed to come to a halt as the environment around them faded.ย
ย
The screen would show Mauvacheโ€™s face and display the HP totals along with a message:ย
Xia: 0 HP
Aurora: 120 HP
Winner: Aurora by knockout
ย
With the fight over, Xia's senses returned to her body. It was as if suddenly being struck by a heat wave, not because the room was actually hot, but because she was no longer covered in frost. Shaking herself a bit, getting herself re-orientated with her surroundings, the girl stretched herself out before looking over to her opponent. While she wasn't nearly as chipper as she had been when she won, Xia still seemed to have a smile across her face. The girl waved to Aurora saying, "heyyyy!" Walking over to her opponent she said, "man that was a good fight Aurora, it was suuuper fun. And congrats on winning," she gave a thumbs up to the girl before saying, "sure I wish I could have won but it was still great! I'll do my best next time and be sure to win though!" The girl then seemed to get a bit more awkward as she said, "unless you're not ok with playing again. I guess that's fine too, but..." Xia seemed to briefly trial off before finishing her statement.ย
Aria
ย
"Just look for more good times then." The Lifeguard said simply. Though his tone wasn't the most positive. "If you can find them." He added. "Possibly somewhere else."
ย
Aria's eyes narrowed in response, and she opened her mouth to say something in response, but was cut off at the sound of panicked splashing. The Lifeguard had stood up immediately, leaping gracefully into the pool with hardly a splash.ย Why does everyone in this world have to be so funking tall...ย Aria thought to herself bitterly. The Lifeguard had managed to save the child easily, and was soon confronted with the incessant praises of the child's mother. Aria watched from afar, confused at his overall demeanor. Did he hate his job, or did he just not like being around people that much? Oddly enough, she was reminded of her days in middle school; shutting herself off from others and wanting nothing more than to get away from conversations from others. Of course, she knew the Lifeguard probably wasn't a middleschool pre-teen girl.
ย
Of course, that didn't stop her from hatching an idea. Aria got up and out of the pool, moving towards the changeroom. She spent a short time inside, and then was soon enough out again, and approached the Lifeguard who, sure enough, was still stuck with the woman.
ย
"Excuse me, sir? Someone made a, errr, big mess in the girl's change-room,"ย Aria said, faking a sheepish expression as best as she could.ย "Could you please take care of it?" The "Big Mess" of course was a lie, the change room was entirely clean, and he was likely to be angry at Aria lying to him, but he would thank her later.
Cyanthrax chuckled at the crowds reaction, acting like a scared mob. As he had expected, no one stepped up against him. Even the minotaur he had talked to not long ago was busy with something else.ย "No one!? Heh, what a shame. I was hoping at least one of you asโ€‹sholes would've-"
ย
"Calm down why don't you?" He was cut off by a feminine voice, coming from a nearby stool. "Didn't you get enough fighting in the Arena?" The demon turned his head to face the person who had interrupted him. Greeting his sight was a women with a black eyepatch and an amused look on her face.ย "Why don't you sit back down and let's all continue to enjoy our drinks. No need for anyone to get hurt." As he made his way towards her, he thought he saw a flash of light coming from her eyes for a second.
ย
"Oh? And who's going to make me?" He gave the women a glare, a cocky grin stretched across his face. "If I decide to burn the place to the ground, who the fuโ€‹ck is going to stop me? You!?" He chuckled slightly, his glare becoming more intense.ย "You're in luck, however! I actually like this fucโ€‹king place! As for fighting..." He glanced around at all the scared faces around him. "What? Go back to yer fucโ€‹king drinks! I ain't gonna hurt ya." He cackled before turning to the women. "... it would be a waste of my fucโ€‹king time and energy to fight any one of these insects! Plus I'd probably get kicked out of here and the arena..."
The fight was over. Aurora took a deep breath; she'd earned it. She didn't think she'd pull that win off, but she somehow managed. It was getting pretty close there, and she seriously underestimated how much of a beating Xia could take. In the end though, Aurora pulled the win out of her hat, and she was pretty proud of herself for it. Her points had shot up too. Winning definitely felt better than losing. And speaking of losing, her opponent seemed to take that in stride.
ย
"Heyyyy! Man that was a good fight Aurora, it was suuuper fun. And congrats on winning. Sure I wish I could have won but it was still great! I'll do my best next time and be sure to win though! Unless you're not ok with playing again. I guess that's fine too, but..."
ย
"We'll definitely have a rematch sometime," Aurora answered.ย "I wouldn't mind fighting somebody with your kind of strength more often. It reminds me of home." Of course, the last time she'd sparred with somebody that had super-strength, they weren't also capable of firing jets of water at Aurora. She made a mental note to watch out for that. Perhaps plan ahead for a way around it? Aurora didn't linger on it for long before something else occurred to her. She still had to speak with Angel about the missing persons case. Aurora returned the thumbs-up gesture Xia had given her, before excusing herself.
ย
"I'd really love to hang out and chat," she said.ย "But I need to see someone about something important. Let's hang out later maybe."ย With that, Aurora started forward and pulled up the messages on her watch. It was time to send another message, once again to Angela.
ย
Hey. Just got out of my fight for today. If you aren't busy, we still need to talk somewhere.
"Certainly not what one expects when they hear 'Dragon'," Tesability heard after hearing a scowl, which had her immediately standing up on all fours with outstretched wings, an almost-defiant look on her muzzle with eyes narrowed at her. "But if you are truly apologetic then I suppose I can let it pass. Don't make me call you up here for this sort of thing again. That Julian didn't put any rebellious thoughts in your head did she?"
ย
A forepaw moved to underneath her muzzle, where a chin would be, in thought as Mauvache continued. "I can assure you there's no cause for such actions. As long as you do your job well you'll be rewarded in due time after all. And this is supposed to be fun for everyone involved."
ย
A couple of seconds passed before a ghost of a lit lightbulb literally appeared above Tesability's head for a second before she lowered her paw and looked back up towards Mauvache. "Wha' yu meansh bai 'againsh'? Ded shomewon ewsh du ah badsh?"
Aria
ย
"Excuse me, sir? Someone made a, errr, big mess in the girl's change-room,"
ย
"That's not my j..." The lifeguard looked at the woman who had stopped talking and was looking at Aria in disgust. "Okay." He said, moving languidly from his spot. "Show me where it is." He would follow Aria over to the changing room before pausing. "...There isn't actually a mess, right? If there is I should call the Fae to clean it up. Landwalkers leave such disturbing messes..."
Cyanthrax
ย
"Oh? And who's going to make me?" He gave the women a glare, a cocky grin stretched across his face. "If I decide to burn the place to the ground, who the funk is going to stop me? You!?" He chuckled slightly, his glare becoming more intense.ย "You're in luck, however! I actually like this funking place! As for fighting..." He glanced around at all the scared faces around him. "What? Go back to yer funking drinks! I ain't gonna hurt ya." He cackled before turning to the women. "... it would be a waste of my funking time and energy to fight any one of these insects! Plus I'd probably get kicked out of here and the arena..."
ย
"Who's going to stop you? Well, even if I don't, Tegur over there isn't here just to be a pretty face you know." She grinned dangerously at the boy, standing up as he continued with his speech. She was up close to him when he said the last and he would feel something against his stomach. If he looked down he would see a gun, which he wouldn't necessarily recognize but would know it was some sort of weapon. "Of course I wouldn't mind taking some of the workload from him."
ย
At this Tegur approached and spoke up. "Hey there lass, put that away, how'd you even get it in this time Odine?"
ย
The girl smirked and raised the gun away from Cyanthrax, still staring at the man while talking to Tegur. "Trade secret. Bounty Hunters have a way. You should know that by now."
Tesability
ย
"Wha' yu meansh bai 'againsh'? Ded shomewon ewsh du ah badsh?"
ย
"I should really give you a translator...And there's always someone doing something bad, dear Tesability. That's the nature of the world. It's why my job is to keep things running smoothly in the Arena. And you lot are certainly a handful. Maybe not as bad as previous employees though....Ah, but that's neither here nor there, I'm sure you've got places you want to be. And I need to make sure that boy doesn't try and add anything...unnecessary again. Honestly, why would a pool filter need torpedoes..."
Aria
ย
"That's not my j..." The lifeguard looked at the woman who had stopped talking and was looking at Aria in disgust, who felt a pang of guilt for being rude regardless of her efforts. "Okay," he said, moving languidly from his spot. "Show me where it is." He would follow Aria over to the changing room before pausing. "...There isn't actually a mess, right? If there is I should call the Fae to clean it up. Landwalkers leave such disturbing messes..."
ย
"No, thank god there isn't,"ย Aria laughed.ย "I'm just saving your ass is all. Though you not want to walk out right away; I was trynna not be rude there, and I don't wan them to know I was lyin' through my teeth. Anyways, I'ma go hop back in the pool for a bit."
ย
Aria gave a small wave as she headed back out towards the pool, a smirk on her face and a feeling of satisfaction.
ย
As the women stood in front of him, he felt something press against his stomach.ย "Of course I wouldn't mind taking some of the workload from him." The demon looked down to see a strange metal object pressed against him. Was it suppose to be some sort of weapon? It looked vaguely familiar to the kind of shโ€‹it Elijah had when they fought their fight, although this one was much less flashy.
ย
At this the beast man, who he assumed was the one she called Tegur, approached and spoke up. "Hey there lass, put that away, how'd you even get it in this time Odine?"ย Tegur's line basically confirmed that whatever it was she was pressing against him was a weapon. Cyanthrax couldn't help but smirk at the girl as she withdrew her weapon.
ย
The girl smirked and raised the weapon away from Cyanthrax, still staring at him while talking to Tegur. "Trade secret. Bounty Hunters have a way. You should know that by now." He found it amusing that she happened to be a bounty hunter. If only she knew the humongous bounty he had back at home...
ย
"Smuggling illegal stuff in here, huh? And you treat me like the villain! It's almost adorable." He chuckled, before moving behind her with inhuman speeds, leaving a faint trail of black smoke behind him. "Tell me, miss bounty hunter, did you intend on using that on me?" He spoke, firmly grabbing the front part of the weapon. "How cruel!" He said mockingly as he tried to take the weapon from her.
Aria
ย
"No, thank god there isn't,"ย Aria laughed.ย "I'm just saving your ass is all. Though you not want to walk out right away; I was trynna not be rude there, and I don't wan them to know I was lyin' through my teeth. Anyways, I'ma go hop back in the pool for a bit."
ย
"I...see." The lifeguard said, unsure what to think. Before she left he asked her one more question. "Why?"
ย
As Aria left there would be a few more people than before, mostly teenagers, who were splashing around a bit more than was likely safe. They noticed Aria coming out and waved at her to come over, some seeming to recognize her. They were getting quite loud and insistent as time went on.The woman from before was leaving with her child at this point and she gave Aria an annoyed look as if she thought it was Aria's fault.
Cyanthrax
ย
Odine didn't move as Cyanthrax made his action. However the moment he touched her gun she sent an elbow into his side, jabbing him hard in the side, hitting him where the lung was, and with a simple motion flipped him over and onto the floor.
ย
She aimed the gun back at him, strands of hair falling over her face as a look of rage appeared in her one good eye. "No one touches Raven but me." She said.
ย
"Ah damn." Tegur muttered as the robots started to hone in on the pair. He hurried around the bar and towards them, waving the robots away aggressively. "Back, get back I say, no need for that." When he reached the pair, with the robots not far behind, he spoke to them. "Ye best not do that lad, lass, I won't be having any trouble in me bar, ye hear?"
ย
Odine scoffed and, while she didn't take the gun away, she didn't seem to be moving to act farther either.
ย
The battle begins.
ย
โ€œWhoa.โ€ Elijah took half a step back. โ€œWhatโ€™s with all the doom and gloom my first two fights? I mean I get it with the demon guy but for real. What is this?โ€ He gave Angela a look that clearly said โ€œCan you believe this?โ€
ย
The young manโ€™s attire had changed drastically since Angela had last seen him. He was now wearing a flame-print shirt and giant, goofy goggles with an upside-down smiley face on the outside of the right lens. It didnโ€™t seem to obstruct his vision at all, though, as he held a hand over his hip and slashed his arm up in an arc to his other side, flames trailing from his fingers before coiling together to form an Igknight weapon: A short sword crossed with a heavy revolver.
ย
โ€œAngela, right? Well, may the best man win. That is to say, man as in human. You are human?โ€ He shook his head. โ€œOh, whatev.โ€ He leveled his weapon at her. โ€œYou ready?โ€
ย
The arena was quite small compared to the one where Angela faced Aria yesterday. It was dark, and only blue lights around her and her opponent made the two of them clearly visible to each other. Something about this darkness bothered her, but overall she liked the battlefield for giving her an ample room for movement while still being limiting enough to force direct combat. Her opponent seemed to have changed his outfit though. Those goggles were quite goofy.
ย
โ€œAlways ready. Wouldnโ€™t be here otherwise.โ€
ย
And so, Angela prepared her weapon too before her. Since physical injuries, dismemberment, and murder were out of the question, she would need to adjust her playstyle. Perhaps, she would need to use her holes in a different way this timeโ€ฆ
Elijah walked calmly towards the center, sword held in a defensive stance, ready to summon a shield if need be.
ย
โ€œSince youโ€™ve taken the defensive stance, youโ€™re conceding the right to go into the offensive to me, right?
In that case, Iโ€™ll dig in as you wished.โ€
ย
Pulling out her spear, Angela activated her wind magic to surround her entire body and increase her speed. She wouldโ€™ve gone invisible now but the lights would betray her position to her enemy. Well, itโ€™s not like she would refuse a chance for an exciting upfront brawl. And so, Angela used a blast from her wind magic to propel herself forward with her spear being held upfront, and in the meantime, she also fired a blast of air from below of Elijah to hopefully trip or disorient him. Her common sense told her to not take too much risk, but the moment she held her spear and launched herself, the only thing Angela cared was about the thrill of the battle.
ย
Elijahโ€™s smile couldnโ€™t have been wider as she went for the simplest, most obvious attack possible: A head-on assault. Of course, if he wasnโ€™t in character, heโ€™d do the same butโ€ฆ
ย
He was in character.
ย
His left arm flared up and his Magnum Shield coalesced upon it, a jagged golden shield with a red, almost crystalline front. He locked his knees, and he felt all his strength funnel into taking the hit head-on. Unfortunately, he hadnโ€™t counted on the air blast to his feet, which scared him out of his stance. The spear struck his shield directly, sending him stumbling and falling onto his back.
ย
โ€œAH! Jesus Christ, what did I say!?โ€
ย
โ€œI am a human, yeah. Nice to meet you too.โ€
ย
The flexible type apparently, Angela thought. Gunblades, and now he materialized a shield to block her attack. As she managed to push back Elijah, Angela landed on the ground and stopped her charge. It seemed by using her wind magic to trip him earlier she actually wasted her chance of getting a solid hit in. The shield was a real issue. Perhaps she should just see how much damage it could take?
ย
โ€œI might not be that strong, and Iโ€™m definitely not durable. I can give you a beatdown though if that counts as anything.
ย
Soooo... I guess prepare yourself.โ€
ย
Placing Gungnir on her back once more, Angela materialized three copies of the spear on her hand with her Gradation Air, which was quickly followed by an airblast to propel herself upwards as she activated her invisibility to make her moves harder to read.
Elijah would only be able to see the flickering blue lights going around really fast above him, before the three spears were fired towards him from three different directions at high speed. Angelaโ€™s invisibility would disappear moments after while she was still above, revealing her being ready to strike with her spear once more.
ย
Elijah swung his legs up over his head and rolled backwards, narrowly dodging one of the spears. As the remaining two were still flying at him, he raised his shield, catching a glancing blow from one and a direct hit to the shoulder from the other.
ย
He gasped in pain, but quickly forced a smile, pointing his sword up at her. The magnum shieldโ€™s power reversed, pouring his endurance into his strength. Swinging his arm in a wide arc, he pulled the trigger of his gunblade and a curved burst of fire rose up to meet her in the air.
ย
As Angela was launching herself towards Elijah as the final part of her assault, she had no choice but to meet the blast head-on. Pain creeped in on her signifying that Elijahโ€™s attack directly landed on her, but with the arena not giving her injuries, Angela simply sped herself up with another burst of wind, turning herself and her spear into a missile that attempted to hone towards Elijah.
ย
Unfortunately, Elijah didnโ€™t have time to dodge her attack, and took the spear-tackle directly to the chest. Fortunately, this gave him the perfect opportunity to strike in kind, his sword plunging up into her gut.
ย
โ€œYouโ€™re taking this WAY too seriously,โ€ He coughed, still smiling.
ย
โ€œItโ€™s more fun that way, donโ€™t you think? Why bother doing anything if you donโ€™t give it your all?โ€
ย
Using a wind blast to get herself away from Elijah and hopefully to knock him down a little bit, Angela then landed a few meters away from him. She used this opportunity to catch her breath, all while she noticed the presence of the shadowy creatures that were starting to creep towards them. As if it was an exercise, she started to do several stabbing motion to the air repeatedly for a while before she bared her weapon at Elijah again.
ย
โ€œThese critters hopefully wouldnโ€™t disturb us that much.โ€
ย
Taking a deep breath, Angela would soon create another three spears and launched them like missiles towards Elijah before disappearing from sight, reappearing moments afterwards just behind him with her sword drawn, preparing to strike him. Elijah might be able to track her fast movement, but as of now the difference of speed between the two was quite clear.
ย
Elijah had stood up before the attack, but when three spears were flying at him and his opponent disappeared in a matter of seconds, he tried his best to react appropriately.
ย
Sadly, โ€˜appropriateโ€™ was not the right word to describe activating Chaos Burst.
ย
The ground between his feet cracked, and a bud of flame erupted into a flower of agony, the flames engulfing and blasting Angela and her spears aside with brutal amounts of force and heat.
ย
โ€œHot enough for you?โ€ He laughed, dispelling the weapons in his hands. โ€œBecause if not, itโ€™s gonna get a whole lot hotter!โ€ He held out his hands and summoned two Kukri Riot Guns in twin bursts of flames.
ย
Huh. Using Chaos Burst sooner was a good choice, Iโ€™m not as worn out by it this time.
ย
The attack caught Angela off-guard and thrown her to the edge of the arena, hitting the wall with a thud. As it happened, a few of the shadows crept upon her and started attacking her with slashing claws of solid blackness. Angela fend them off by blasting them away with her air, although she grazed a few hits from them. But before she could get away, Elijah leapt forward with his weapons and swung them in an X formation, releasing two whip-like trails of flame, scissoring in on her torso.
ย
โ€œDonโ€™t worry much about me, this heat is nothing for me. How about you handle this instead!โ€
ย
As Elijah approached, he would find himself hitting a bubble of air that stood between him and Angela, which would immediately burst moment after with a hammer-like force that pushed him away, and as that happened, Angela (who had to tank the trails of flames directly to set this up) launched herself at him with her spear ready to pierce him.
ย
Elijah skidded away and came a bit too close to the wall, where a claw reached out and slashed his arm, forcing him to stumble aside. Just then, Angela jumped back into the action, he attempted to parry, but the spear gashed his right cheek and he gasped in pain. Catching the spear shaft between his blades, he turned and twisted the weapon in an attempt to disarm Angela.
ย
Holding the spear tight with one hand as Elijah attempted to wrestle it off her hand, Angela used her other hand to grab her sword and attempted to slash Elijah as he was still trying to take her weapon away. Doing so forced her to let go of her spear for the moment however.
ย
Elijah threw his enemyโ€™s spear aside as she slashed him across the back. Pain spiked across his body and he screamed, his weapons falling and dissipating as he fell to his hands and knees.
ย
Angela used a windblast to make a distance between her and Elijah afterwards, trying to avoid getting herself too exposed while sheโ€™s using a weapon sheโ€™s not that used to yet. With her spear having been thrown aside, she must grab it before she could comfortably start going on the offensive again, but going straight for that would leave her open.
ย
Well, without much choice for now, Angela ended up holding her sword forward, going on the defensive for the time being.
Elijah rolled over and got up on one knee, flames swirling up from the air around him to spiral around his wrists..
ย
โ€œRemind me how the whole elemental circle thing works? Air beats earth, earth beats water, water beats fire, fire beats air, right?โ€
ย
He smiled and resummoned the Magnum shield, only this time a longer sword formed in his other hand, the hilt designed like a Desert Eagle.
ย
โ€œElemental circle? What are you talking about? Even if you can douse fire with water, you know water will turn to steam if heated enough, right? So even if you're saying that my wind is weaker than your fire, Iโ€™ll blow you out like a candle in the middle of a storm somehow.โ€
ย
To think about it, Elijah really was right on one account, Angela started to think that she had been taking this too seriously, but now comes the realization that she also not taking it seriously enough. She got herself hit way too much time just to create openings. That was the thing that made Aria defeat her. Over here she couldnโ€™t ignore her wounds using her holes and kill the enemy with the opening presented. Of course, she couldnโ€™t also play it safe either, so she need to start thinking of ways to actually fight without having herself take too much damage.
ย
Tch.
ย
Was it really this hard to be able to show up her worth in Mauvacheโ€™s face? Angela was never the most confident in herself, but in the face of challenges like this she couldnโ€™t bear to think of losing, and she didnโ€™t want to see Mauvacheโ€™s triumphing with her bad impression on Angela too.
ย
Pulling more energy from the Heaven Holes, Angela surrounded herself with her wind magic again. A soft protective layer formed around her, like a makeshift armor of sort to protect herself from Elijahโ€™s flames.
ย
โ€œI mean, yeah, thatโ€™s true but Iโ€™m just trying to make banter here! Keeps things interesting.โ€ The Magnum shield poured strength
into him and he charged, pointing his sword for a stab attack. He thought she was powering up for something, and he was NOT going to have another โ€œLetโ€™s see who dies firstโ€ competition. The first one was, in retrospect, a dumb.
ย
โ€œBut enough talk!โ€ He shouted, thrusting the sword towards her heart.
ย
โ€œHave at you!โ€ It was a full power thrust, and as Angela had room to prepare, she could see it coming enough to step aside to an angle where she could channel the wind armor surrounding her into a sudden cannon-like blast towards Elijah while he was still focused on moving towards her, followed by her pushing herself away and firing her air javelins at him.
ย
Elijah swerved, avoiding the air javelins as best he could, but the gale blast hit him head on, slowing him nearly to a stop. But the pause was brief. He swung his sword in a broad cleaving motion, unleashing a semi-circular arc of flames before continuing his charge, this time on a curved path to his left.
ย
Angela used a jet of air to get away from the ground to avoid the flames (though a bit of it singed her) and Elijahโ€™s persistent charge, and started to rain more javelins towards him before she rushed down to grab her spear again. She did several stabbing motions on the air around her as she waited for Elijah to come again.
Elijah pivoted on his heel and stiffened his grin. โ€œAlright. You like that weapon so much?โ€ His sword and shield dispelled and the flames reformed into a minigun loaded with spears, pointed at her.
ย
โ€œNice to meet a kindred SPEARit!โ€ He laughed giddily at his own pun as the gun launched a shotgun spray of spears at her. After that however, the gun spun up and started to shoot flaming bullets at breakneck speed.
ย
Not expecting the sudden barrage, Angela scrounged to block the projectiles by cutting them apart using her sword, but some of them managed to land a hit on her nevertheless. Seeing the flaming bullets however, Angela realized that she wouldnโ€™t be able to dodge them in time, and simply gritted her teeth as she instead pulled all of her effort to create a air blast large enough to launch herself and her spear towards Elijah. The bullets all landed squarely on her. She could feel the pain of being burned by those bullets, but at this point the sensation simply invigorated her. Closing the distance between the two of them in a flash, Angela thrusted her spear right towards Elijah.
ย
โ€œShooting Hundred Heads.โ€
ย
Despite the attack looking like a normal thrust, if quite aimed due to Gungnirโ€™s nature, it was actually an uncountable amount of thrusts done in a very small timeframe, all towards a single point guided by the physical tip of her spear. Using her ability to delay the effect of her seemingly aimless thrusting that she did whenever got the chance earlier, all of them were unleashed at this single moment.
ย
Normally itโ€™s overkill against flesh, and Angela usually used it more or less as a drill. But in this environment where damage is counted by numbers and wounds do not exist, the attack had become her best asset.
ย
In the meantime, Angela did several swinging motion with the sword on her left hand while she unleashed the remaining charges on her spear on her opponent. With the newly-discovered projectile combat capability that Elijah had, it would be best to keep herself close to him all the time.
ย
Elijahโ€™s eyes widened when Angela lunged at him, and he quickly dropped his gun, replacing it with the Magnum Shield just in time--
ย
CCRRAACCKK!
ย
--For her spear to utterly shatter both his defense and his character in one swift blow, flying fragments of metal and crystal slashing across his arms and face.
ย
Huh. Isnโ€™t this a familiar image. Thought I had enough total firepower to stop the oncoming blow, and not only were my defenses shattered, but I took damage too. I make that mistake a lot. Usually when Iโ€™m not taking things seriously.
ย
Well.
ย
Time to take things seriously.
ย
Elijah stood and ripped his goggles off. โ€œYou know, I am still having fun with this, really.โ€ He insisted, his arms encasing itself in a gunmetal gauntlet up to the elbows.
ย
โ€œBut you need to chill.โ€
ย
Lunging forward, he punched forward with one fist as a distraction. If she dodged or parried, heโ€™d be all set to sweep her legs out from under her.
ย
Not going to sacrifice the range she had, Angela took the punch head-on as she let go of her spear which was still pointing at Elijah. The spear would be launched towards his direction again soon with her wind magic as its booster. At this time, Angela had finished charging her sword too, and had silently dropped the blade to the floor.
ย
No matter what, I wonโ€™t lose against you. As worthless as my abilities are, I canโ€™t afford to lose against you now!
ย
It was then that Angela lunged forward, using Gradation Air to form wind claws on her hands as she attempted to slash wildly at her opponent at the same time as the launch of her spear. She really was taking this way too seriously, but her voice and fighting style now reek of desperation.
ย
Elijah hadnโ€™t expected her to take the punch, and the spear flying at him only threw him off further, so when the claws came out, he took two slashes to the face before he regained his balance. He sidestepped her spear and came out with a left hook to the face.
ย
Angela took the hit again, and gritting her teeth as she withstood the pain, she launched a strong uppercut towards Elijahโ€™s jaw with her claw still out. In the meantime, her other arm attempted for a grab as the spear that passed Elijah earlier sharply turned midair, changing its aim back towards Elijah and rushing towards him at full speed.
ย
Sharp pain came from her back as she did so. Catching her by surprise, it felt like something was clawing against her, but she couldnโ€™t see anything in the midst of this darkness. Were they the shadows? Itโ€™s unclear, but she couldnโ€™t care less about them right now. She continued her attempt to grab and hold Elijah as the slashes continued.
ย
Angelaโ€™s claw slash caught him right in the chin, and his head snapped back, recoiling in pain. โ€œOK thatโ€™s enough!โ€ He snapped, tackling at her center of gravity in an attempt to pin her.
ย
Elijahโ€™s quick attack made Angela lose her balance, and she thus fell into the ground with a thud as her opponent pinned her down. Her hand reached around blindly to grab her sword again while her gaze was locked on her opponentโ€™s face, barely visible due to the darkness of the arena.
ย
โ€œNot over yet...Soaring Spear, Strike with Death!โ€
ย
Gungnir materialized properly right above Elijah, and as he was still on top of her Angela used the opportunity to hold him with her hand and legs, not letting him to escape. Gungnirโ€™s true ability now had been showcased. A spear that would refuse to miss no matter what the reason, unless itโ€™s truly stopped on its tracks. Rushing in, the spear would strike both Angela and Elijah at the same time, just as Angela managed to grab her charged sword.
ย
Elijah moved to stand, but was stopped cold when Gungnir pinned him and his opponent to the ground. He grinned in a pained, forced way. โ€œOh wow. And here I thought I had you.โ€
ย
Elijah stood shakily and pulled the spear out through his chest. โ€œOW. OW. OW!โ€ He stared at Gungnir in his gauntleted grip and looked at Angela like she was crazy. โ€œWhy would you do that?โ€ He coughed, clutching his chest. โ€œWhy would anyone ever do that, EVER?โ€ He took the spear in both hands and slammed it to his knee, however the spear was not broken from his effort.
ย
โ€œIf you canโ€™t die from it, why wouldnโ€™t anyone do it? Then again, if that could actually kill me too, I will still do it. Playing it safe is just not interesting, donโ€™t you think?โ€
ย
Angela used a wind blast to get herself away from Elijah as he was occupied with Gungnir. Itโ€™s not like heโ€™d be able to utilize it or harm it for now, and if he put too much effort to try doing anything to it, Angela would have a good window to strike at him. Creating range between him and her right now was perhaps going to bite her in the ass later, but Angela needed the distance to be able to hit him with her charged attack.
ย
โ€œAre you still going to mess around with that spear, or are you now willing to fire all you have at me?โ€
ย
Using her sword, Angela started slashing the air around her, and sharp winds started to race towards Elijah.
ย
After his failed attempt to break the spear, Elijah gives it an appraising look. โ€œHuh. โ€˜s durable.โ€ The attacks caught his attention and he span the weapon in his hands, using it to catch and deflect the attacks. โ€œHey, this is a pretty great weapon! Personally though?โ€ He held a hand up and flames gathered into a large, shoulder-mounted rocket launcher with a giant, hooked harpoon in the opening. A burst of flame shot from the barrel, launching the flaming spear at Angelaโ€™s feet.
ย
And, seeing the harpoon being launched at her, Angela ran herself straight towards the attack instead of trying to dodge it. She could feel her magic activating as she moved, and in barely seconds, she was pierced by the harpoon in a direct hit, but the weapon seemed to phase through her despite scoring a hit and Angelaโ€™s movements was unimpeded by the hit.
ย
A second passed. Angela already closed the gap in distance between herself and Elijah. In the perfectly flat field with him
standing there, the terrain and positioning requirements had been fulfilled. Her gambit should be worth it now. Angela made her slash with her sword, and as she did so, simultaneous slashes were performed at the exact same time, pretty much caging Elijah within the slashes as Angela unloaded all the delayed charges she had stored on her sword so far.
ย
Of course, at that moment, Angela was aware that in under five minutes she would feel the effects from the direct hit from the flaming harpoon and the shadows that relentlessly swarmed on her that she could barely do anything about without opening herself to Elijahโ€™s attacks. She merely delayed their effects anyway, although she had no idea how much time was left in this match so if she didnโ€™t hurry, the borrowed time wouldnโ€™t be enough and her defeat would be certain.
ย
Elijahโ€™s sheer shock at Angela tanking the spear-shot was interrupted quite abruptly by a literal slap upside the head.
ย
โ€œOW!โ€ He complained. โ€œFrickinโ€™ Shadow-wall things. Wait, wasnโ€™t Angela--โ€
ย
And then a slash of pain across his chest. Followed by what felt vaguely like being the ground during a hailstorm of razorblades. Angelaโ€™s attack struck him so many times in a row, from so many angles, that he spent several full seconds suspended in mid-air being ripped like perforated paper, screaming in-between strikes.
ย
โ€œWHY DOES! AN! ATTACK! LIKE THIS! EVEN! EXIST! IN THE! FIRST PLA-HA-HAAAAAAAAAACE?!? IT HAS LITERALLY NO PRACTICAL UTILITY!โ€
ย
โ€œ...Some things in my world warranted such attacks as being necessary.โ€ Gasping for breath. A pause. "And I guess, something that was meant to be capable of killing any human is always a nice thing to have."
ย
Even though she was smirking by a little, Angela dropped to her knees not long after, only managing to support herself from hitting the floor with her sword. The signs of exhaustion was clear on everywhere anyone could see on her, her body sweating a lot. Using the attack really drained her, and even backed with her holes she couldnโ€™t recuperate everything in an instant.
ย
โ€œAre you...pardon me, are you still going to continue our battle? Surely that wound would not stop you, right?โ€
ย
Elijah crumpled to the floor. His hand reached out to something on the floor. His goggles. He gripped them tightly, flames erupted in a circle around him, and he dragged himself up into a kneeling position. Slowly, the flames began to crawl across his body, up his legs and sides to engulf him.
ย
โ€œWellโ€ฆ. Only one way to find out.โ€
ย
The flames encompassed his face and a pillar of fire erupted around him,
ย
โ€œThatโ€™s more like it! You know, youโ€™re not really bad, so maybe we should hang out after this is over? I mean, I'll beat your face in first then we can hang out.โ€
ย
Just a little more. Angela smiled. Just a little more. Her hand let go of her sword and the wind coming from the heavenโ€™s holes started to envelop her again as her energy had been restored properly now, the excess forming claws on her hands once more. She could feel it. Not much remaining health points left for either of them, and if she could empty that in the next few minutes, seconds even, all of this would be over. Acknowledging this, Angela rushed forward and doing a stabbing motion with her left hand once she closed the distance between her and Elijah, and using it as a fulcrum for her next movement, she dragged her right claw at Elijah in an attempt to carve him up with it, followed by the same motion to a different direction with her left, before going for a kick using her knee i(if Elijah was still in range). Sheโ€™s trying her hardest to get the last damages in, and even if Elijah got away from her attacks, she would relentlessly charge at him until the battleโ€™s over for either of them.
ย
โ€œCome on, hit me with your best shot, because I sure wonโ€™t hold back mine, either!โ€
ย
The pillar of flames parted as Angela struck, and a colossal arm thrust out of it and caught her wrist in a grip of hot metal.
Elijah`s glowing outline had been replaced with that of towering metal man, standing close to nine feet tall, and wrapped entirely in form-fitting armor so snug it had abs of its own. On his left arm, a heavy, circular war shield the size of a table was held high and proud. Holstered on his back was a sword easily as long as Elijah was tall. Emblazoned on his chest, pulsing like an angry heartbeat, was a crest. A blazing bird, wings spread, its wingtips and tail trailing into flame-like tongues, and its head raised to the sky above. A phoenix. Around the top of his head, a crown of flames erupted, showing off a sharp, angular mask with two crystal eyepieces: one red, one blue, both piercing the shadow like a spear through paper.
ย
The warrior grunted, and he spoke in a displeased tone of voice โ€œUgh. Seriously, Boss?โ€ He lifted Angelaโ€™s arm up into the air and threw her by it. โ€œEverything weโ€™ve been through and you canโ€™t take one girl?โ€ He pointed his shield arm at her and the weapon spun, the rim burst into flames, and it launched off his arm to hit her in mid-air.
ย
โ€œSo this is your final gambit? I like it, I like it! Show me more of it!โ€
ย
Stopping herself from hitting the wall by creating a platform, Angela then used her wind magic to increase her speed to her limits to avoid the incoming fist, and landed on it before it was retracted. Now in a relatively steady position even for barely a second, the Heaven Holes opened wide as cyclones started formed on them, and Angela expended more and more of her mana to create spears on each of them. A series of artificially accelerated harpoon, something like a railgun or something, was it? She forgot what that bird woman talked about back then, but that should be it. With her command, the super-accelerated spears rained down on the flaming phoenix warrior clad in armor while Angela moved away again, reappearing on the ground, grabbing her spear already.
ย
โ€œThis is it then.
ย
Barbed Spear that Pierces with Death, Gungnir!โ€
ย
A flash of red. Putting all of her into the attack, Angela let her spear guide her to reach her enemy. Heavily armored as he was now, there ought to be any holes somewhere.
ย
And if there was any hole for her, then there would still be somewhere her spear could penetrate from. The spear that seeked out its targetโ€™s heart. No matter what, it would continue seeking it until it hit its target or itโ€™s stopped cold by the man in armor himself. And now, it and Angela were going at the fastest speed they could manage for themselves.
ย
Elijah would need to think, fast, if he wanted to stop Angela.
ย
hEITVJa.jpg
ย
Except it would never reach him. As their fight increased in intensity the shadows were still closing in. And, given the flames, they were congregating nearer to Angela herself. As she moved she was being struck by shadows over and over. She continued forward, focused on her goal, even as the damage continued to rack up...untilโ€ฆ.
ย
The battlefield faded away moments before Angela made contact, her HP having reached zero
ย
Angela: 0 HP
Elijah: 60 HP
Winner: Elijah by knockout
ย
Only as the battlefield faded, Elijah would notice that only he was in the room. Angela would find herself waking up in a hospital bed, her delay ability having activated at the worst moment, when the fight ended and the battlefield faded. Yet another bug in the system that Mauvache would have to attend to.
ย
Xia's face lit up, ecstatic that the girl would have a rematch with her in the future. However, before she could thank the girl for this and ask if there was anything she wanted to do, it seemed that she had already made plans. A bit disappointed by this, Xia said, "oh, ok." She then, however, brightened back up saying, "well, see you later then Aurora!" Waving the girl goodbye, Xia left the arena to figure out what next to do with her day. She didn't know where Angela or Aria were, so she wasn't sure they'd be able to hang out. To that effect, she didn't really know where anyone was, so instead she just decided to wander around for a bit. While she did this, taking in the sights of the city, she decided to check her watch to see if there was anything fun to do there. It was then that the girl remembered that there was a section that she saw yesterday that had amped her up.ย
ย
Going into the menu, she saw the entry listed "combat events," and began to peruse it. Scrolling down, she stared at the, "Land Where Dragons Rule," event for a bit. She wanted to partake in it very much so, but was unable to as she was nowhere even close to having enough points to do it. Pouting a bit at this, she decided to just scroll through all of the options, unsure of what some of them even meant, until she stopped at the one labeled, "Ballroom Blitz." She wasn't quite sure what either of those things were, unless the ballroom was a room that was actually just one giant ball, but it sounded fun to say and so she decided to sign up for that one. Spending the points for the fight, she then received that it would be an hour or so before she was all ready to fight. And so for that next hour, Xia had decided to go kill time with two friends of hers that she knew just where they were.ย
ย
Walking into the security office, Xia announced her presence loudly. "Hiiii Gnash! Hi Snowball!" While the two seemed to be surprised by her sudden arrival, the girl then explained herself saying, "yeah, I got a thing to do in an hour, but spending an hour by myself sounded boring. So I came to have fun with you guys! You don't mind right?" While the security guard seemed surprised that the girl wanted to hang out with him, he had no qualms with it at all, and Snowball as well seemed happy to see Xia again. As such, Xia then killed the next hour hanging around the security office, until it was time for her combat event to start. Waving a goodbye to them, the girl made her way into the arena, where she once more entered a virtual room.ย
ย
Ballroom Bltiz
ย
When Xia had entered the field, the room she was in seemed to be way bigger than usual. It was a largely decorated looking room, with an entirely flat and waxed floor, reflecting the lights the hung above. The walls, floors and ceiling all seemed to the same golden sheen to them. From the ceilings hung chandeliers of all different sizes, all elaborate in design and all ornate in decoration, casting light down onto the floor below. The most notably, thing about the room, however, was its size. While none of the arenas before hand had seemed particularly small, this seemed to dwarf those in comparison, extending just far enough that it was difficult for Xia to see the end. The other thing that would immediately catch anyone's attention would be something far more obvious. A large collection of faceless people, seemingly a few hundred, all wielding metal pipes that didn't seem to be doing much of anything. While Xia was curious about this, she then heard something yell "ATTACK!" and the horde started to bull rush her.ย
ย
While the girl was caught off guard, she at least knew the meaning of that word, and figured she was supposed to do so in turn. Cracking her knuckles, the girl had a smile across her face as she said, "here I go!" Charging head first into the horde of the faceless men, the girl began her beatdown of them. With the first of the men raising their pipe at her, he was stopped before being able to swing, as a fist struck him square in the head. The man was sent hurtling, into one behind it with both of them merely vanishing as a result. The girl's stride was not broken, as she continued to punch through a few more that ran at her. While her front was well defended from these faceless men, as she merely kept punching through them one after the other, it didn't take long for them to start swarming her from all sides. As such, she couldn't help but be hit by a few of their pipes, bracing herself for impact as they connected. However, when they struck, she felt barely anything. Like someone was very aggressively poking her. As such, the girl wasn't especially bothered by it, and merely kept pressing forward as she had been.ย
ย
As such, the girl continued to merely press forward, not paying much mind to the whacks that she took, and instead just opting to charge forward. Her punches were certainly effective and getting rid of the men, but all they were also pretty slow, which let some of the surrounding ones get some hits on her as she plowed her way through. The girl thought for a bit as to how she would get through a more of them, and then it hit her. Which was to hit them. With them. Grabbing one of the faceless men, the girl started to swing the faceless man around like a bat, knocking out a fair few in front of her, and the one in her hand. Being excited at this plan working, the girl then continued this strategy of grabbing them, cutting a swath through the horde.ย
ย
As the girl continued to beat through the faceless men, taking hits as she was giving them, on a brief look it seemed that there was no end to the horde. She had defeated many many more then she had fingers to count, and so while she was curious about this, she still didn't pay it much mind as she pressed forward to break the lines through the horde. As she continued to mow through the rest of the faceless horde, the girl then noticed that the faceless men were actually coming from the direction she was heading towards. Xia had no idea what that meant, but she did think it'd be cool to see how these guys got here in the first place. So, continuing her charge forward, the girl smiled and she clenched her fist, taking a few more hits, before charging through a chunk of the faceless men in one punch.ย
ย
As soon as he felt the steel of the strange weapon, he felt her elbow slam into his side. Before he knew it, he had been flipped over, slamming onto the wooden floor of the bar. He looked up to her, only to be greeted by the barrel of her weapon.ย "No one touches Raven but me." She gave him a rage filled look with her good eye as she spoke. He was more impressed than upset, although he could feel his rage bubble up.
ย
"Not bad!" He chuckled, planting his palm on the floor. His voice was playful, although with a hint of anger.
ย
Tegur stepped in, probably having overheard the whole ordeal going down.ย "Ye best not do that lad, lass, I won't be having any trouble in me bar, ye hear?"ย
ย
"Doin' what!?"ย Slowly, he got up from the ground, brushing off dust from his jacket. He turned to Tegur. "I'm just tryin' to make friends here! Not my fault she won't share her toys." He chuckled softly, turning to the women. As he did, a faint trail of smoke came out of his mouth. "Didn't your parents ever teach you its rude to point?" The smoke coming out of his mouth seemed to intensify, before fading away as he took a deep breath. "You're real fucโ€‹kin lucky I like this place..." He muttered under his breath, glaring at her.
"Oh wow! That was terrifying. God knows what that attack would have done to Solaris. Good--" Elijah blinked hard, looking around him for his opponent.
ย
"Uh. Good... fight...?"
ย
***
ย
Something went wrong.
ย
If there was anything Elijah knew, it was that when an opponent vanished after a fight, it was because something had gone horribly wrong. It had happened twice before, where a wayward solid hologram hit an opponent the wrong way, and they vanished, forfeiting the match. It was the third worst way to end a Duel, and in particular it was bad if he was playing The Kid.
ย
A deep breath and a sigh cleared him of his worries. No big. When I see her, I'll apologize for whatever damage I may have done, but for now I have something more important to worry about:
ย
The Photo Shoot.
Aria
ย
"I...see." The lifeguard said, unsure what to think. Before she left he asked her one more question. "Why?"
ย
Aria shrugged as she exited the changeroom. The first thing she noticed was the lady before giving her a glare, and all that Aria could do was roll her eyes. Probably some crazy lady anyways. However, as she entered the pool, the people around seemed to get louder. And louder. Eventually, Aria could no longer ignore it and got the feeling it was directed towards her. She looked over and spotted a group of teens waving in her direction. Aria waved back, though confused for why they were cheering. And jeering, and cat-calling. Oh god, why were they cat-calling?! While Aria had aspirations of becoming a musician, she had not quite reached the stage of being used to other recognizing her and making a scene about it. Especially at the prospect of the cat-calling, forcing Aria to remember that her swimsuit was just a little bit too tight, she sunk into the water up to her nose as her face flushed red. As the teens saw this reaction, they began to laugh and poke fun at her more.
ย
Dear god just someone shut them up,ย Aria thought to herself as she prayed for a sudden meteor strike.
While Tesability did not know what a pool filter was, she did know what a pool and a torpedo were, so one eye still widened appropriately, her equal to raising the eyebrows that she lacked, at the odd statement. "Ai sheesh..."
A second passed before the lightbulb reappeared for a split second. "Haw Ai getsh a 'fwyeen wishensh' hewe? Ai nu wanna be hewd ahgins fow fwyeensh..." At this point, her wings were getting decidedly twitchy, wanting to flying freely, but not wanting to be put into holding for doing so again...
