Trump Administration Actions Thread

Recommended Posts

A news conference where Acosta was but one of many journalists is completely different from a one on one interview, so you're equating apples with oranges.

I wish the White House the best of luck if they try to appeal a case where they failed to follow due process, then used a doctored video they got from InfoWars to slander Acosta as if that justifies censoring him.

Trump could not reach a deal with Kim Jong-Un. Art of the deal, everybody!

Sorry, I'm having a hard time seeing what I'm supposed to be praising Trump for on this one.

It's nothing to worry about yet. Raegan walked out on gorbachev in the same manner, and that worked out well enough.

Kim and Trump are still on amicable terms, NK and SK are both making peace for the first time in decades. while the deal clearly stalled, it's not looking like it's a guaranteed no deal, and more like a disagreement that they both want to mull over for the time being.

A subpoena had been issued for Mazars to turn over Trump's financial records. Judge Amit Pehta ruled against Trump's lawsuit to block the subpoena, and while Trump is now attempting to appeal his case, that appeal will now be heard by Merrick Garland.

Obama appointee?

Only for the Supreme Court, which you know how that ended. He is a Clinton appointee for his position on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/08/politics/trump-organization-subpoena/index.html

In the latest loss for Trump and the DOJ, Democrats now have permission to begin collecting Trump's financial records in an emoluments suit. 37 subpoenas have now been filed, with answers demanded by July 29. While the DOJ is requested an appeal, if the last few appeals have shown anything, I expect this to stand.

https://www.newsday.com/news/region-state/cuomo-bill-trump-tax-returns-1.33585823

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/02/house-committee-sues-treasury-for-trump-tax-returns.html

Cuomo signed a bill into law allowing Democrats to see his returns, and the House Committee is currently suing the Treasury after it ignored the subpoenas. Refusing to agree with a duly issued subpoena grants Democrats a legitimate case in that lawsuit. If this does go the same way as the tax subpoenas, it means more lawsuits are coming Trump's way.

In this case, the subpoenas are themselves part of a lawsuit, and the DOJ is specifically asking the appeals court to block them, so chances are that the administration's strategy of just refusing to show up in court will not work.

Labor Secretary Alex Acosta has stepped down following criticism of his prior handling of a sexual assault case against Jeffrey Epstein, Trump's friend who was arrested for sex trafficking.

A poor ruling on their part, and the reasoning behind their argument fails to address the issue. They believe the suit was about the DOJ giving additional consideration or "bonus points" to other applicants, when the administration is specifically excluding sanctuary cities.

Well they are, Trump isn't gonna pocket the money, he's taking, for example, what SanFran would get, and giving it to say Miami

I understand that, and that is why this appeal was wrong. Sanctuary cities are entitled to that money, and should not be deprived of that just because Trump is being petty.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/12/us/sanctuary-cities-ruling.html

“Nothing in the congressional record nor the Act itself remotely mentions immigration or immigration enforcement as a goal,” she wrote. “In the quarter-century of the Act’s existence, Congress has not once denoted civil immigration enforcement as a proper purpose for COPS grants.”

So the excuse the DOJ is hiding behind does not appear to have any legitimate basis. This is just inventing a technicality for the express purpose of claiming that sanctuary cities failed to meet it.

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/08/revealed-doj-blocked-report-showing-white-supremacists-responsible-for-all-race-based-domestic-terrorism-incidents-in-2018/The DOJ blocke

The DOJ blocked a report showing that the majority of domestic terrorist attacks were committed by white supremacists. MAGA cultists will still give Trump a free pass, encourage the murder of immigrants simply because they and their child would vote for Democrats, cheer for the deaths of protesters who were expressing their freedom to assemble, smear them as Antifa just because they were protesting, cherry-pick which parts of the First Amendment they support when it's convenient, and reject freedom of the press, which is historically understood to be one of the primary methods of imposing fascism. So at this point, I doubt they would be upset about Trump's DOJ burying a report like this.

Trump supporters will still refuse to concede that Trump is aiding and abetting white supremacists. Trump will give some vague lip service to condemn white supremacists, but then go right back to inciting their actions anyway. Curious how the Trump administration does little to curtail white supremacists, but his followers will purposefully use the words "Antifa" and "left-wing activists" interchangeably in a bid to criminalize the act of protesting.
