[spoiler=Episode 24 - Pokemon Fern for funk everything right now]

A team with a moveset about as random as my upload schedule. Hey everybody, Skaia back here again picking up with another episode of Pokemon Fern. In the last episode we made our way through the Celadon Gym, beat the gym leader and now have one more badge in our pocket as well as the all impressive String Shot TM. In this episode we'll probably mindlessly bumblefuck our way around the region of Kanto until we manage to stumble across plot.

Co05u9h.png

Or just go to the route next door and see what that's all about.

NlaQhey.png
This guy, apparently, is what it's all about. Thankfully, at the start of the year we picked up our pokeflute, so we're now able to combat the large sleeping roadblock. As opposed to just combating it while it was sleeping. I guess knocking it out wouldn't have solved anything in that case but - whatever.

jVnvyW5.png

That is one fat Togepi. Anyway, being an event pokemon I want to catch this thing, as the more the merrier.

5QmkcjU.pngJR2eSqY.png

And it goes down pretty much without a fight.

tqxqhtq.png4VQLWZH.pngVx6y39T.png

The thing that was blocking our path could also shrink even further down. While an interesting moveset, Rotundee will be staying in the box for now as our team is pretty much already where I want it to  be. Anywho, now that we've solved our roadblock issue there's another road block on Route 16, though we don't need to wake it up to get through it.

16TAhQ5.png

Unless it was of course a Sudowoodo. Thankfully it wasn't. Right above this tree is a small patch of grass and I am 90% certain that I have not been up here before it's fair game for a new catch.

1IgnWll.png

Given that we were just in the pokemon tower not two episodes ago, such a short while ago I know, this feels pretty fitting.

5pRF5RB.png

Put up much more of a fight than Rotundee but ultimately we get another addition to our team.

iQhrbeu.pngyxycT5N.pngmuwtod9.png

Alright well spore is neat at least. I'm also incredibly interested to see how forecast actually works with this thing, if at all. Sadly, that is a very difficult thing to test, especially as I don't think FR has any sort of forced weather areas like in the Hoenn region. All the same, it's cool to keep in mind for later if I get a weather user. Now then, right next to the patch of grass is a double battle trainer.

HVyKg21.png

"We're not a couple."

Ews5H81.pngHCXDaxc.png

I forgot that Terry had Huge Power. Anywho, with them down, all that's left is a small building to the side, with two entrances for some reason. The first entrance has a police officer standing guard, while the second one just has an old man wandering about.

arUljcU.png

Thanks? Just outside this building is the next part of Route 16, with the north and south part of it being fenced off from each other so that you have a reason to go and fight Snor- Togepi. On the north side there isn't much to be seen, except for a small house with a lady and a fearrow in it.

6LY4bf0.pngWGmr2As.pngFh7sZVI.png

Lady this is like a 2 minute walk away from Celadon and there's like 7 people right next to the fence outside here. I don't know what's so secret about it. Regardless, she thinks its  important enough to keep secret that she's willing to give us the most convenient HM for backtracking. Being completely honest I cannot believe that this was how you got this HM, but whatever.

dnIqU47.png

I think I might have had everyone learning all HMs on. Regardless, the good news is that our tree cutting maniac Ziggy can also fly. Convenient! Part of me also wants to give it to Barnes, both because I am very unlikely to have Ziggy in the party all the time, and it would actually give Barnes a flying move but his moveset is still awesome so I can't really part with anything. So, we'll just keep fly on the backburner.

For now, going into the southern end of the building, it doesn't just have a police officer, but also stairs. And up these stairs is yet another researcher dude.

8toeHXA.pngDrI7U3r.pngPzcbYOR.png

Sadly we only have 9 pokemon in our pokedex, so we'll stay as poor as we always have been. Bummer. Regardless, we'll make our way out of this building and  see what Route 16 is like. It apparently has the name "Cycling Road," even if it's not any bit seperate from Route 16, and once we go out we're forced to be on our bike, (as a bike path is no place for those who walk.)

epC5Y2S.png

It is also home to a huge biker gang. You'd think there being a police officer in the building that connects to this road that'd be less of a problem. Naturally, we have to go through Cycling Road as we don't have anywhere else to really go and that's pretty much how this adventure works. So in order to do that, we need to now face off against like 10 bikers. From major criminal organizations to biker thugs, our pursuit of justice knows no bounds.

h80t02X.pngPjXGXXW.png

That Tropius had aurora beam and giga drain. What a terrifying beast it was.

r7krUqR.pnge0hZUVl.png

AAHHHHHHHHH BAARRRRRRNNNEEEEEEESSSS. So, to show how truly unlucky this was, Magmar (his lead that I forgot to screenshot) had Rain Dance of all things. Kyogre knew water pulse of all things, and of all things, he crit on top of it. So, as strong as Barnes is, he was unable to take the hit. In retrospect I should have switched into Terry to tank/kill it, as i was trying to farm for Biron's exp and figured that Barnes's frenzy plant could do Kyogre in and Terry is already head and shoulders the strongest of the party, but there's no guarantee that if I brought out Terry that it wouldn't just know Thunder or something instead.

This dude also had a spearow but  I'm too upset to screen shot it. But yes, Barnes is down, leaving Progi the only member of the OG squad alive, and bringing in Snoozy the shroomish as his replacement.

zar6urT.pngYB9c0Vx.pngtdV78dw.png
Qy7ttwQ.pngRZY29vd.pngLSf17p5.png

This isn't one biker, this is like 2 or 3. That cleffa was scary though, it had sacred fire.

v0MlQPu.pnglWlyoD3.png

Naturally, weedle knew Thunder.

ePCgjy1.png

As we go down, the Cycling Road of Route 16 eventually gives way to the one of Route 17. I suppose to simulate that you're going downhill the game forces you to move down the route if you don't try to tell it otherwise, and you crawl uphill, so yeah. Pretty neat. Also being a new route we have a new pokemon to catch here as well.

6nCh4Fa.png

It knew Whirlpool.

YUSwjke.png

So the annoying part of this whole "down hill" thing was that as soon as the battle ended I was just kind of forced into another one because I just sped through the grass. Tried to run, couldn't, and then it knew Frenzy Plant. Man random moves sure are fun. Well, might as well go switch Biron out for Whirly, who now that we're back at a box let's check out.

LiTeRQH.png8Fbio6c.pngJNsB5VB.png

Bar one exception, Whirly's move pool and ability are actually pretty great. With that out of the way, I'm just going to attempt to blitz through this godforsaken route without trying to train anything in particular.

hKfyweZ.pngERk2I6K.png8YekvEH.png
0fkyEnL.png6wzsNao.pnguYXjFNM.png5TCAvRe.png

That wigglytuff had the gumption to bring out Destiny Bond, so I had to play cautiously against it. It also had poison point. For that matter Suicune also knew poison tail. Continuing down the route, there are other bikers but most interestingly of all is this.

BMmrfq8.pngfLtFQiK.png

...Okay? With not much left on the road to go, we eventually make our way into Route 18, which is just a straight path which more interestingly opens up into this.

1kcpWTS.png

So, with two of our party members gone to the grave and our person now in the next city, this'll be where I end the episode for today. For now, that's all folks and I'll catch you next time, within the next day to 8 months.

Now living in the shadow of legends, these heroes march on.

Hey everyone, it's Skaia here with yet another episode of Pokemon Fern version. In our last episode we fought a lot of bikers and learned that they were more threatening than any other form of organized crime, having lost Barnes to their thuggery. We also lost Biron because cycling road is an interesting place. In this episode we'll start making our way through Fuchsia City in an effort to I suppose get a new Gym Badge. Still a bit unclear there. So let's go see what challenges await us this time in getting into this gym.

5bBiA6m.pngsjixl6e.png

Oh, well that painless. Yeah so the gym is just directly south as soon as you enter the town and there doesn't seem to be any story progress blocking our way to getting into here. However, I'd feel weird just gunning for a gym the second we entered town without doing and side stuff, so let's see what Fuchsia has to offer us.

lQOA0W5.pngw11Qegd.pngTV9BSQ4.png

That's a...weird thing to tell people.

7jk65nt.png5KKGSbA.pngxfjcgfs.png

Oh, well, for an unmarked house in a pit stop of a city, compared to the others, this is actually a pretty important place. If there was a place Bill would've come from, though, I suppose it makes the most sense that he came from here. In the next house to the right

bDkrd3e.png

Also a rather important place for an otherwise unmarked building. I can't think of any moves off the top of my head that I'd want to delete th-

Fsf5fvk.png8RzfmKP.pngQ7ebmq1.png

All is right with the world now. With a free move slot open now, I can also go and teach Whirly a new move in its place, and as everyone can learn HMs, I figure Fly would be a good fit for the springy ferret-mon. Back with our journey at hand.

p0SDqrL.pngXCxH9RN.pngMMmONEU.png

Uhhhhhhhh...sure?

s1Wabx3.png

Pleasure to be of assistance. I guess. Also, this is house, and like any good house it just has a boulder in the middle of it. Well, there's a building right next door so let's check that out too.

GxJ8e67.pngGxJ8e67.pngE21HPeW.png

Did I meet the fishing guru in this playthrough? Can't tell. But, I can tell him that sure, fishing's swell.

3zdtANd.pngEWLAVfZ.pngavHypQs.png

What a splendid friendship this is turning out to be. Also, fun thing we can now do with this rod. There happens to be a pond outback, and since this is a new location, it means we have a new pokemon to catch.

JBEbNCq.pngQJ9g8RK.pngR1ivowT.png

Aha! Let's see what fish we've reeled in.

To8N8ZW.pngdu2iIVp.pngfDTWXOT.png

Not the first thing I think of when it comes to fishing, but Wigglytuff is cool so let's take it. And, since we're right in town let's see what kind of moves it's rocking.

BvcSHCG.pngn8e5XeE.pngkY48hNK.png

There's a reason I named it Buff. Now while Buff has a rather rocking moveset, it is still level 6 and still like the current additions to my team so he'll be on the bench for a bit. With that out of hte way, let's move in to see what else this town has got to offer.

w665zIk.png

A lot of trees, that exist solely to be inconvenient. Like, you could easily just walk around them, so they don't really do much but just get in the way. Now, while I would've been keen to getting into this building right away, the game crashed on me and so I needed to go redo a small amount.

vZQYBym.pngyVzFkMw.pngbjfRW4i.png

First thing was still a Wigglytuff, it was just a lot stronger...and female. But just posted the stats so you all know what's what. Now, let's go for take two in going into this building.

T7kiBom.png1oG9HD6.png

You know I feel like that's kind of mean. Anyway, these guys don't have much to say other than talk about bad at talking Warden Slowpoke is. So, let's go to the building at the northern most part of town.

Ys17U5K.png

I feel it's important to note that there are these pens containing pokemon all over the city, so I guess it also doubles as a zoo? Anyway, sadly, these pokemon nor the info about them (or rather the name and picture shown when you look at info of them,) is not changed.

aABGd45.png

The Safari Zone. A cool place where we get 30 Safari Balls in order to go catch whatever kind of pokemon we happen to cross on our way through this little mini game zone. Sadly we only have a limited amount of steps we can take before we're ejected out of here. The Safari Zone is also broken up into like, a few different zones, but I don't know if it'd be good to classify as different areas to catch pokemon in, so I won't.

6oRcuow.pngfjkbbLN.png'
Just a few shots of the scenery before we run into.

ZlFMLTL.png

Our first encounter here. Now, actually catching a pokemon in the Safari Zone can be kind of annoying. You don't have your pokemon to weaken the wild pokemon and so you instead have the options of bait and rock in order to modify capture rates. With bait pokemon become less likely to run, because they can randomly decide to do that, but become harder to capture, because extradimensional storage is weak to meal time. If you throw a rock the pokemon becomes easier to catch, but more likely to run. Because it gets angry at you? I suppose it's better than it deciding to kill you, but still. Now with that explanation out of the way, Swallot is a stage 2 pokemon so his base capture rate is pretty high. So I throw a single rock at him and he leaves immediately. Fun times in the Safari Zone.

G8UEz3P.pnghjLqH8m.png

A small scenery shot and a TM on the ground. This is water pulse, so that's pretty dope.

LuGyUbK.pngpxG67DF.pngqnGkKHr.png

Why is there so much mail here.

B8kp5sy.pngo4NbE5P.pngRPDskKL.pngsuws6Hk.png

Mirror Move and Rage respectively. And uh...teeth. Just...lying here. Alright. Anyway, after a bit of walking around we come across the real reason we went to the Safari Zone in the first place.

jltlLgE.png

Some building towards the top west corner of the Safari Zone that apparently kid Tom found somehow impossible to find. I was pretty at games for a long time. Still probably am. Anyway, this building is important as there is a dude just chilling inside of it.

6RXW97I.pngjz4tq3e.pngaXA7Sw6.png
WFOaPxf.pngbKX1HN2.pngEf5zNzy.png

Well, I guess kid Tom doesn't have to feel too bad about himself then. Anyway, we now have Surf, which is awesome. Not only because it's a mandatory HM but because it's actually an incredibly good one. Given that Terry has Octozooka and, outside of the accuracy drop, is all around worse than Surf it's a good fit onto the hugely powerful Blastoise. Sadly, we can't use it out of combat yet, as we do not  have the badge for it, so we're still landlocked. Soon enough we are also kicked out of the Safari Zone, having over stepped our bounds inside, and are booted out. Now, with that out of the way we can go take care of something else before the gym.

As we learned from the house of no remark earlier, Warden Slowpoke has some false teeth, and we also learned that he's been speaking gibberish. So, now that we have some gold teeth in tow, let's see if he wants them for himself.

cqQ0Zfy.pngSsWP7BS.png

I guess our in game self is just super aware of this as well, as there isn't even a prompt to do it, you just give it to him. Also, I would rather not tell him where we found these. Anywho, for our troubles we get the Strength HM, which allows us to move boulders around. It's also pretty solid as a move, with 80 base power and 100 accuracy. So, I decide to give it to Whirly since his only other STAB move is Take Down and I don't want to play any more dangerous then i have to here. I also accidentally made him forget Whirlpool, his namesake, so now Whirly also knows Surf. Anywho, as before there a boulder in this house so let's see what we can't do about that.

UF8r9oh.pngwm9mz2B.png

...Oh. Well then.

4agI1MK.png

So there's another route right outside Fuchsia, which means more pokemon to catch and more trainers to train off of.

CQgl0me.png

Or there would be if not for the dreaded Shadow Tag Blast Burn Tangela we all know and love. Well, with yet another party member down, because every pokemon ever knows a hyper-beam style move that is always super effective, we box the little Shroomish in the grave and get to working on getting another new team member.

LiWLioK.pngjZ8neEv.pngj2eEv2z.png

A pretty good find if I do say so myself. With some difficulty, we manage to capture our new found party member, who can fill a recently vacant slot.

AJ32GWq.pngWmqGsDr.pngtqUGzvM.png

I didn't even know that ability existed. But  yeah, an overall cool moveset. Really, thunderbolt is the only thing that makes it worth using, but it also seems to learn a lot of good TMs for moves as well. With that out of the way, we go back to training our fine Alakazam who levels up and learns few a new moves.

DDf5smZ.pngfHb8dC5.png

What an absolute monster of a mon. I also learned that Cacophany doesn't work? There was a mon with uproar that still clearly hit ACDC so, not really sure what's up with that. Anyway, with a lot more training to get done and a lot of training that does get done we're pretty much ready to go and take on the next gym. So, saving that for the next episode, we're gonna call it here. Thanks all for watching and here's looking forward to the next one.

The brave and few who survived grinding.

Hey everyone and welcome back to another episode of Pokemon Fern version. In the last episode we dealt with the whole Safari Zone escapades, and got Strength, Surf and a Master Ball for our troubles. Following that we got yet another regular added to the team, and just grinded a lot to bring everyone up to speed. Also I gave ACDC Sacred Fire and Water Pulse because it could learn those. In this episode we'll be going through the Fuchsia Gym.

EfUP0xf.pngaXcM5A5.png9xWGzcL.png

True to Ninja fashion...I think. Interestingly he only really tells us about the gimmick of the gym, and not anything about the gym leader themselves. I guess even this guy has given up trying to tell us what kind of pokemon to expect in these gyms. Anyway, the man is not lying in telling us that there are invisible walls.

gl9OVH7.png

Now, visualizing this in screenshots is very difficult so you'll just have to trust me that Koga is indeed unable to be approached with a straight forward approach. So, we'll instead have to move over to the side and see what else the people of this gym have to offer us.

3bVj0oT.pngZrrwnnD.pnglRlJGaR.png

Yeah I'm sure you're gonna unveil some amazing -

pg6U2km.png

Hm, I probably should've looked at levels before I started this episode. So, thinking that i'm now quite underleveled I decide to grind the team up to minimum level 37, at which point ACDC learns two new moves.

Wh8Z7kn.pngkDxkrTY.png

What a legendary moveset.

xBWl2nc.png

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a shiny in the wild. Ever. Sadly he must fall to his better. Anywho, with the team now ready and all trained up it's time to get going on through the gym again.

pcVI28U.pngpLbokBj.png

Well, always follow your dreams buddy.

XQRNscI.png8Xx4bDI.pngUqvagyj.png

I feel like there's no happy middle ground here.

UYyipGr.pngRHlZ3nl.png

Sadly, Ninja don't get animal companions.

YQwGOII.pngkLC6U42.pngK2udcXq.png

He awoo'd at me after he lost.

rNvKFyo.pngzfRjtWN.png

Not particularly.

S5LSPFi.pngWbaoKq2.png4317Xes.png

What...what do I got?

Tkm8aQT.pngl1ruIX6.png

Depends on what theory you prescribe to.

azi7g3A.png

There was also a cacturne that I missed. Well, now that we've made our way through the army of Jugglers and Animal Tamers all trying to become ninjas, there's only one man left to deal with.

h1ReQax.pngjqFqWCN.png4kiZ2FZ.png
efS6nne.png8BKBnxH.pngVmngkiI.png

He seems like a real nice and fun dude.

AEDdaiV.png

So starting things off we have the old Masquerain with sand stream leading off. Thankfully, Whirly has fly at his disposal. This thing is a bit annoying because it has Double Team, which it uses very liberarlly, and Koga burned a Hyper Potion on it. Thankfully, the only attack it used was Peck, and Whirly has flame body. So a combination of burn and sand with one flying ferret manage to bring down this bug.

nWMp8cf.png

He then switches into his ace which is, surprisingly, not affected by Sandstorm. It is, however affected by water type moves. The Nidoqueen is surprisingly bulky, and manages to tank through a lot of ACDC's water pulses and gets another hyper potion applied to it. It then hit ACDC with a fireblast, which nearly brought the alakazam down, so I switched in Terry to Surf and finish the ground poison off.

HGnuwgC.png

His next pokemon is not immune to the weather, and I decide to bring in a lightning rock that is. With a few thunderpunches the Dodrio goes down pretty effortlessly leaving us with one last pokemon to bring down.

MReOKRS.png

It didn't last very long.

4hIfj6y.pngXLPi9nP.png

And with that we were bequeathed the Soul Stone.

NBUUzVG.pngXgWR0Kq.pngN5nq9Op.png

I keep forgetting these badges raise stats too. And yes, now we can finally use either Terry or Whirly to ferry us across the water, so that's good to know.

FMWzwB0.pngACup7Ja.pngNX1AD7u.png

You know for all the moves to get, I'd say this is pretty fitting for a ninja. Sadly, a bit underwhelming but what can you do. With that, we've finished off all that Fuchsia has to offer us, which means there's only two more gyms we have to hit up. And because one is right next to Celadon, let's fly over there on Whirly. Making our way into the checkpoint between cities we get stopped by the guard there.

TURnRqd.pnguhaJIaZ.pngULsi4db.png70ZUgzg.png
Ermwy2S.pngRpp8E0U.pngresoDPs.png

This eagle eyed guard managed to spot our tea on our person, that I completely forgot we hadn't given to him yet, and  just kind of took it from us. Now I don't know what this lady actually gave us that it managed to solve all 4 of the guard's chronic thirst problems at once, but I'll take it. So, moving past this man we enter our next stop.

Rey5ndy.png

The biggest city this side of Kanto, Saffron City.  Making our way through the city there's something immediately off putting about it.

nnmr5zm.png

Which is that it is very yellow. But also that there's a lot of team rocket grunts just milling about, claiming that they own the city and Silph Co. is under their control. That would be bad enough if not for something else.

JqMkSSQ.png

This guy is just standing in front of the gym. For some reason. He doesn't actually tell us why he's there, he doesn't even tell us that no one's allowed in, he's just standing there being generally menacing. Thankfully, there's a budget gym right next to it labeled the "Fighting Dojo," which, I'm going to assume has very little to do with fighting types.

cHG6Qo4.png

Making our way inside we see about four black belts all just lined up, I suppose staring at each waiting to pounce on anyone who makes their way through.

YmVrMct.pngSyGrjQd.png

Okay, nevermind. They're just staring at each other and weren't expecting anyone at all.

awmQJ4f.png6kg66dy.pngm9RhPnE.png

I have an intuition about these things.

BaSmcEq.png

I guess word about some bumblefuck kid gets around fast.

MiPUzEQ.pngDFGptK0.png

Persian had Luster Purge and Silver Wind, the latter of which actually went off.

MRQPgZg.pngQaxAeqI.png

That sounds painful and not very productive.

3KgsJMk.png

Though I suppose that is fitting. Poor Magcargo. Also this thing was tougher than I was expecting, which is to say it had god damn water absorb. I also might've actually been scared of it as well, but it just kind spammed Curse, Ingrain and Aromatherapy. So not much to be afraid of there.

lZCJr67.png

Listen I already can't run in here and now you want me to take my shoes off as well? I have to draw a line somewhere buddy.

nsu8qqs.pngPyKHuyD.pngVQfsBlY.png

Step aside in the face of Whirly.

6aGmOUa.pnggS6mulG.pngqDReQna.png2KEPUdi.png

You know I was totally confident in myself until that final "Fwaa!" Made me tremble in my shoes which are STILL ON THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

zobwTsW.pngWMYDsCL.png

Koichi here is a tier above the rest of these people, but he is not a tier above Whirly.

tW4Ml03.pngRcFRKtc.pngfyQ4kBk.png

I don't even know what Emblem you're talking about. But sure, I'll take a free pokemon.

wyo1V5W.png15PXf1j.png

Even if they're not fighting type and don't have any limbs. Now, pretty sure we already had a quilfish earlier this run, so let's take the other option. So, with Weezing in tow, let's check this boy out.

Ep3ydIa.pngWniqXwo.pngE6VTxxT.png

ACDC might have some competition for best natural learnest. Anyway, with that out of the way, we don't have much to do here since the gym is taken over by Team Rocket so we can't go into it. Also, for having taken over the city, both the Pokemart and Pokemon Center are completely unguarded by team rocket so that seems like a bit of an oversight. But, in order to continue our journey it looks like we're going to need to take Team Rocket out because they just happened to be here yet again. Given that they were underground last time, it only stands to reason that they go as high as possible this time, alternating between high and low. So, we go to the Silph Headquarters.
