Cherry Heart: A Quest-based RP [OOC/Accepting/Co-hosted by Skaia]

Recommended Posts

Alright, I will return on Sunday my time, and I aim to start the second round on Wednesday the latest. However I hope everyone can finalize their choices before Sunday to make sorting everything out easier.

Also, final ultimatum for Library to end. Saiku hasn't responded to me regarding ending the quest yet but if it is not done tomorrow, I'll have it locked. Since it's E-rank no penalties would happen to the participants, but it's best if this doesn't happen again in the future.

Making a quick announcement.

So first of all, Library, as was already stated by Nai, is finished and all the guild members may return to the guild now. You may assume that you successfully completed the quest.

Second of all, the start date for the next round of quests will be July 5th.

Finally, since every quest is finished for right now, and there's time between now and the next round, you are all free to post in the main thread interacting with each other and accepting whatever quest it was you signed up for/were assigned.

As the thread states, the quest for Dawn of the Dead is indeed complete. All of you who were there can now be back at the guild hall (https://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/361867-cherry-heart-a-quest-based-rp-main-threadicstartingcurrently-not-acceptingco-hosted-by-skaia-and-saikazo/) And do whatever it is you want. The group has been awarded with 100 Korona and some Light-First Aid Medicine (to heal minor injuries and wounds on the coming missions with.) Good job gang!

As always, if you have any comments, concerns or critiques about the quest or my hosting, be sure to share them.

As the post states, you guys have finished the quest. Lily, Fen and Deku have all received some mysterious blue potion for their troubles, (Jin did not due to failing the quest,) so yeah. Rewards. Do with them what you will. You may all post in the main thread once again, having arrived after the crew of Vincent and Kasayee (maybe Celica) have.

As always if you have any comments, concerns or critiques about my quests or how I run them, be sure to post them either here, in the ooc, a PM or on skype.

Alright, so bumping this. This RP will only die when it is killed, but that time is not now.

I have mentioned in the discord that I plan to end Story tomorrow (7th of January) but due to the current development of my trip (general bad luck and delays in schedule for the most part), I would only be able to end it by 8th or 9th of January.

However, I will do a rollcall through PM tomorrow to see whether you are still interested in the RP, and the quest list for next round will also be posted late tomorrow my time. Once Story is finished, I will also post a day transition post in the main CH thread.

For the time being, applications will still be closed, but I will talk with Skaia about it more to see whether we should open the door for second characters and  more people interested in the RP.

I will coordinate with Skaia in creating a database thread that we planned but forgot before. It should be a good way to make all the key informations visible compared to a google docs.

Thank you for your attention, and hope we can enjoy a year of better RPing than the previous.

List of currently available quest is now up. More will be added for the upcoming days, but note that for the next round,  unless there is any interest from any of you to host one, there will only be one extra quest aside from the guild Rank Up quest, so please discuss it among yourselves for the time being until the third round is properly up.

To prevent issues, if there is any questions you would like to ask regarding any of the quests (and regarding the rewards), please ask me or Tom directly.

As for what is coming, me and Tom is currently talking about improvements on the guild that could be purchased, and generally, the usage of money and whether players can start buying things on their own (we'll going to make a item shop, probably).

We might also move into using rough statistics for help in combat situations. Please contact me or Tom if you have any suggestions regarding it.

Thank you for still being here, and happy questing!

So, for here, not really that big a fan of stats for this, mostly because it wasn't made with them in mind. Speaking of limiting or not, I don't really think it does either and instead just makes things way more complicated.

Nobody here is balanced against anything. For instance, Deku. His magic is explosively powerful, and does a lot of damage and can have a lot utility down the line. It is, however, situational and can whiff majorly. In addition to that, he has to have good physical parameters in order for it to be not useless and not impossible to build up before he goes down. Now compare that against Auburn who has no magical power but uses an entirely different set of mechanics in alchemy. So therefore if I tried to stat you two out against each other it's either way too complicated and pointless or way too simple and everyone ends up pretty samey and one of you would probably just look objectively better against the other.

If the issue with clarity is on abilities, that's not so much an issue with or without having stats, as it is that the abilities in question aren't clearly defined (which is a separate issue.) If the issue on clarity is with how many things you can do in a round, than the only thing I can say is to be reasonable. That might sound a bit ambiguous but I feel like it's the best "scale" to have. This just means for you to take in the limits of your character, the current situation you're in, etc.  And you're never going to really know what the results of your actions are until your GM tells you, because that's just the nature of rpgs in general.

The day transition post had been done.

As for stats, in hindsight the RP really wasn't built with it in mind. I will still keep the issue open for discussion for the time being, however right now, only bosses and maybe some enemies would have some semblance of statistics as a matter to keep track of progress.

Story suffers from how the boss kind of had to be finished in few rounds due to what happened, and so there was barely any way to monitor progress. At the very least, one or two more of quests that feature an enemy that could be considered a boss would give a clearer idea on what might the RP's battles suffered from.

If I may, Skaia had two boss fights as well, and there was some....differences in the power level of them and yours from what I can tell.

tbh I thought your quest didn't necessarily need such a boss, given how much of it was the exploration of the dream world.

To explain more, basically, it might be good to save bigger bosses for quests that mostly revolve around said boss. Like the Wyvern hunt and such.

Bumping this topic.

Due to the current situation on the guild only having 7 active members as of now, we're opening up for applications again!

Whether new participants or participants already here wanting to make a second app, you'll be welcome here.

We would at least need 2 apps, but we can accommodate for up to 5 for the maximum of 12 guildmembers.

Thank you for your attention.

[spoiler=The Haiku Samurai]Name: Percival Crimson

Age: 16

Sex: Male

Species/Race: Chosen Human

[spoiler=Appearance]Image

Height: 5'8"

Weight: 154lbs

Does wear shoes.

Eyes are more brown than red.

[spoiler=Personality]A hero emerges! Percival is dramatic, bold, and full of energy. He hates nothing more than doing nothing and has a fire in him to always be doing something. It is hard to put a damper on his mood and sarcasm and criticism seems to just roll off of him without sticking. He believes that he is destined to be the greatest hero in the world and will settle for nothing less.

His goal is large but he isn't all talk. He truly tries his best at everything he does and is determined to prove to everyone that he is a hero.

He wants to be always a symbol of courage and any hesitation on his part he treats as a deadly blow. Thus he tends to force himself to go on even when he is afraid. For, though he thinks himself a brave warrior, he's still young and inexperienced. There is many things he doesn't know and new things tend to frighten him. Even if he doesn't admit it.

But Percival refuses to give in to darkness. He will be the hero who can face any foe without flinching. It's not a simple desire for him but a need.

[spoiler=Biography]Mysterious past
Too dark to put into words
My legend begins

[spoiler=nai is a bullie]Rudy was born the son of a shepherd who lived near a small community far from any major city. He was raised alongside of Snow to take over the flock when he got old enough. However this would never come to pass. He was only twelve years old when his life was changed forever.

On one of the trips with his parents to trade with the townsfolk the town was attacked by a group of bandits. It was mayhem. Buildings were burned, people were killed, or worse, as the bandits ransacked the town. Rudy's parents saved their son by having him, along with Snow, hide while they distracted the bandits and kept them away from their son's hiding place.

Rudy closed his eyes so that he wouldn't see what befell his parents but he could still hear it. He lay there, trembling, clutching Snow tightly, for hours after the bandits had left.

It wasn't until the next day when a soldier, part of a group who had been sent to investigate the area, found him that he realized he had been there all night.

The soldier took the orphaned boy in and tried his best to get the child to open up again. It took some time but, with the use of many stories of heroics, Rudy eventually grew confident enough again to function.

The boy tried to go out into the capital city, his new home, multiple times but each time he would encounter something that startled him and sent him running back to his room. Over time, after consuming more and more stories, Rudy decided that enough was enough. With much effort he forced himself out into the world and, the more he faked confidence, the more confident he felt.

He was 14 when he had gained enough confidence to try and make something of himself. He convinced the soldier who took him in to teach him how to fight and, when he had grasped it enough, decided to try and join Mimirwood, one of the more famous guilds, and managed to be accepted into it.

He spent several months in the guild, doing very few and very simple quests, until he realized something. If he stayed here, with all these top-class guild members, he'd never be able to make his own story. And so he left the guild in order to find a place he could start his own legend anew.

[spoiler=Abilities]Swordsman: Skilled in the use of swordplay. Tries to use two swords sometimes but actually only good with one.

Animal Companion: His dog, Snow, can fight as well. His connection to Snow is magical in nature as he can see through the dog's eyes and, to basic levels, understand what Snow is feeling and thinking.

Eye of Power: His eye, covered by an eyepatch, holds extraordinary power...or so he claims.

[spoiler=Misc]

-Claims to be "from the East" but doesn't specify where. Nor does he know anything about the land to the east.

-Loves flowers

-Thinks there is power in haiku and will recite them in place of regular conversation at times

-Doesn't really know what makes a good haiku

-Refuses to eat at a table if Snow isn't able to as well

[spoiler=Knight Errant]
Name: Reginleif "Leif" Ahlberg
Age: 23
Species: Human
Appearance:
Here
Height: 5'9"
[spoiler=Personality]

Reginleif is a girl who, above all else, wishes to become a knight. She has always admired all the qualities of a knight; chivalry, honor, duty, strength, courage and helpfulness. As such, she attempts to model everything about how she acts based on her preconceived notion of what a knight would do. She tries to uphold the kindness of a knight, trying to make herself as polite or cordial as possible. If someone is in trouble, she will rush to their aid. When in the face of peril, she stands up to the challenge, being the first into the fight and the last one out. Of course, all of these are more a daydream of her ideal, rather than actually her. While she tries her best to emulate these characteristics, she is indeed, not a knight.

While she does try to be polite in her interactions, she can come off as blunt or rude and is blissfully ignorant of this. This also translates into an inability to read between the lines or sarcasm, sometimes only feeding her ego than anything else, or causing her to cause more harm than good when trying to help others. While she is very eager to help others, she finds the process taxing at times, and while she may continue to do what she has already set out to, she has a habit of becoming more irritable during these times and relegating duties to others. Furthermore, while she is not prone to fits of rage, she is still easily irritable and will become more dismissive then angry. Though, she does not take insults to her honor well at all.

While she may seem brave, it more so comes from a lack of distinction between courage and foolishness. Leif is very unaware of her own limits and tends to think herself when going into a fight. She will jump into a fight, as it is what a knight would do, regardless of the danger involved as she is very unaware of what that danger might be. Both out of some faux sense of honor and/or mid battle panic, not allowing her to come to the conclusion that she can leave. While she may seem more on the pampered side, her dream of becoming a knight is true, and she does work, both in training and in reading, to become one. As such, the closest and most obvious way to get on her good side is to either validate her actions or praise her.

[spoiler=Bio]

Reginleif Ahlberg was born to the noble Ahlberg family, located in the capital city of Taxus. While they were a family centered around business, made of aspiring entrepreneurs who made their way to nobility, Leif was born the fourth of four children. As such, most of the attention and training in the ways of business was given to her older siblings, leaving her by herself. While somewhat ignored by her family, the girl was still without wants, and so to preoccupy her time alone she would merely read whatever book she could get her hands on. While most of the business that her siblings were reading bored her, Leif found true joy in reading fairy tales. She was engrossed in each and every one that she read, loving every bit of them and only trying to read more and more. This eventually branched out into history as well, and the girl realized something. All of the most interesting stories had revolved around knights. Thinking her own life to be quite boring, the girl figured she could find some excitement if she too became a knight.

To this end, the girl began to spend all of her waking hours towards this goal. She studied, both fact and fiction, as to what qualities made up a knight. She found someone to teach her rudimentary lessons on all the weapons a knight would use, but only really cared about learning the sword. She trained what natural magic she had, knowing that all the greatest knights had magic and thus it was paramount to becoming a legend. While she was passionate about this, her entire family was less than supportive. Her parents had eventually scolded her and her efforts, thinking them to be a waste of a time and the occupation of "knight" to be unbecoming of an Ahlberg. Crushed by this, Leif realized that the only way she was going to get any better at becoming a knight was away from her home. So she ran, discarding her family's name behind her as she began her travels.

While trying at times, her newfound journey had seemed to be filled with more joy than Leif had ever experienced back home. However, she eventually realized that she was unable to really get anywhere by herself. Worse yet, she was running thin on money. During these difficult times, she was then reminded of the guilds, knowing that they would be something she could use to further her goal. And so, she went on a search for one to join. One that was without note and perhaps even filthy, for all the best knights start from the most humble of beginnings.

[spoiler=Abilities]

Magic:

  • Wind Slash: Leif slashes the air, create a blade of wind that strikes at a foe, exploding on impact. This can only deal a minor cut, at most, and is mostly used to push a target from the wind's force.
  • Pressure Valve: Leif coats her blade in pressurized air. When the blade is next struck or she next strikes with it, it lets loose a burst of wind, adding extra force to the attack and shoving the struck away.
  • Air Step: Leif can pressurize the air underneath her. This allows her to either hop once in midair or add an extra burst of speed to movement in a single direction.

Non-Magic:

  • Swordplay: Leif has basic training in swordplay and carries a longsword on her person.
  • Sewing

[spoiler=A Dandelion Seed's Destination Remains Uncertain]Af2mcH2.png
Reina Fragola Hortensia
26 Years Old
Human Female
Appearance

174 cm tall
[spoiler=Biography]A former royal guard of the Kingdom of Fraxinus. Reina was the daughter of a flower shop owner before she decided to enroll in military academy. Her reason for doing so is because her childhood friend and crush, a young and slightly unreliable young man, became a medic. Desperate to follow him at the time, she took the only option available to her that would allow her to reach him that also placed her far away from her home, as she didn't want to spend the rest of her life selling flowers. She was eventually accepted as a royal guard of Fraxinus's courts after graduation.

Once properly a guard, Reina found out the hard way that unlike other countries, Fraxinus's royal guards are more for show than actual security. She found herself with an occupation that wasn't particularly satisfying or challenging. And her position still kept her away from her target of affection as well. Instead she found herself companionship in her fellow royal guards, who she thought to be worthless slackers at first. They taught her the importance of leisure, of camaraderie and trust. It was here that she picked up her habit of wearing her signature gas mask. It was to make herself harder to read while playing poker during her shifts, but she had become attached to it such that she would feel a discomfort without it on. During this her infatuation has become less and less important to her, and the desire to do more than continue the family business gradually decliend as well. To Reina, her current peaceful life became more important than romantic or personal success.

Eventually however, she was laid off. The Royal Palace was looking to downsize its guards, and she was given the option to return to regular military. Faced with sudden freedom however, Reina is left with no idea what to do. Although she does feel some resentment over her current circumstances, it was something that couldn't be helped. Slowly she came to desire a little more experience, a little more excitement in her life, and decided to find private employment instead. With the magic skills she learned from her military academy days and her time as a royal guard, she decided she could work as a mage for hire. And a little departure from the country could do her some good as well. She decided to go abroad and find work at a magic guild.

[spoiler=Personality]Reina is someone who has experienced some of life's twist and turns, but still has a lot of room to grow. She had a first love who she feels almost no passion for, she had companions who she could no longer work with, and now the sudden freedom left her with no idea what she wants to do next. Reina is not a blank slate, but an utterly average one with no clear focus or direction.

She understands she's an adult already, but on the inside she doesn't quite feel like one yet. She's not very decisive or motivated, the only thing she can do is to act stern and strict. She's like an unreliable older sibling.

Reina is knowledgeable about flowers although she does not like the fact. Her childhood was spent helping out her parents' flower shop and has made her a decent saleswoman, with manners good enough to calm most people and talk to them cordially. However she's already too old to act childish to draw in customers, and it may creep people out when she re. A stern disposition suits her best. She's well-rounded in interacting with others, especially the rowdy ones, she's familiar with those types. Instead, people who are too polite are difficult for her to deal with. People who hide their intentions, or people who she just can't see eye to eye at all, make Reina uncomfortable and she feels it is difficult to properly interact with them. That is why her mask allows her to feel more confident against people like those. By hiding her facial expressions she is able to even out the field, so to speak. And the intimidation factor helps her out too.

Reina can be surprisingly shameless. She is entirely oblivious to the embarrassment of her outfit's liberal exposure of the midriff, and her sense of fashion and color coordination are equally hopeless.

[spoiler=Ability]Barrier Magic

A branch of methodical magic often utilized by guards and soldiers. Its offensive applications are close to null, but its defensive capabilities make it perfect to bolster survivability in a team or to protect a single target.

  • Protection - Rena can cover herself and anyone she's physically touching with a layer of magic that mitigates damage received. A bullet will still hurt but not piece through the skin, and one would have to fall from double the usual height to die. All magical attacks are a level less effective than they normally would be, and damage received is lessened but the momentum of an attack is not canceled so it is possible to be pushed around. Does not protect from poison. Once physical contact is lost the target no longer has this barrier on.
  • Shell of Flowers - Spreads a dense field of small magical petals in a circle around Rena with a diameter of ten meters. Within this gathering of particles, small projectiles fail to penetrate entirely as contact with a petal negates all momentum and damage. The larger a projectile, the more petals are consumed. Any attack that can obliterate a room its size renders the petals ineffective. Physical entry is possible and physical attacks are not negated if initiated inside the circle, but anything with magic is interfered by the petals. Rena can move after deploying it but she is unable to deploy more than two at a time. Visibility through the field is hampered considerably but not entirely, even a fresh field lets someone from outside see silhouettes.
  • Magic Staff - Forms a staff as tall as she is with magical energy. It is solid and can withstand collision with other physical weapons. Due to its ethereal nature, the staff's energy can easily be absorbed and used to recreate the staff with very little cost. So although it breaks after a few uses she can quickly form another.

Other skills

  • Staff-wielding: Allows her to make good use of her Magic Staff spell. She is quite proficient at it, after having trained with it in military academy. Her style focuses on parrying and countering, and she is at her best when she stands still.

[spoiler=Misc]

  • Her name was originally Rena Fraise Hydrangea. Fraise and Fragola are both foreign words for strawberry and Hortensia is apparently French for Hydrangia and happened to sound like a name. And in Higurashi, one of the heroines is a girl named Rena, who discarded the i in her name. She was originally called Reina. Here I'm doing the opposite.
  • The song I was listening to while making her. It doesn't quite fit anymore because I got rid of the guilt aspect of her character. Don't really have song that fits her right now.

[spoiler=Ub, the "Gentle" Giant]

Name: Ublak Kharnavar (Ub for short)
Age: Middle-aged (about 27)
Sex: Male
Species/Race: Orc
[spoiler=Appearance]
med.png?1519701863

Height: 7’ 3”
Weight: 310 lbs.

He doesn’t really have googly eyes and he doesn’t always drool, but it’s a good way of expressing what kind of person he is.

[spoiler=Personality]
At first glance, Ub’s towering physique and cold, hard expression often leaves others terrified or untrusting. However, while not provoked, Ub is very kind and gentle despite his uncontrollable strength when trying to do delicate things such as shaking hands or giving high fives. However, while good at heart and impressive in brawn, he makes up for in brains. Ub is about as intelligent as a horse. In any activity or event that would require the use of logic or reasoning, Ub’s best effort can only be expressed by shouting his name along with very basic, if not broken, common tongue.

Another side of Ub can be reached under certain circumstances. In the face of danger or provocation, Ub’s flowery personality dissipates unleashes a rampaging engine of destruction and anger. While pumped with fury, he has no interest in his surroundings and no feelings towards any unlucky souls that get in the way of his massive, swinging greatclub. In light of his episodes, however, his kind soul returns once it subsides and as if he was waking up from a night of heavy drinking, he does not remember his recent path of wreck and sadness overtakes him for a while. In times like this, stuff like cute animals and puppet shows will make him feel better.

[spoiler=Biography]
Ub grew up in the mountains where he was trained to hunt, eat, and survive off the wildlife. It was not long before he was let loose by his parents, whom he hardly ever knew as a baby. His immense appetite had him relentlessly clearing out the wilds of animals that would feed his ever-growing body. In time, game was running out, and hunters were getting angry. Soon Ub had a bounty on his head, which was collected by a group of big game hunters with a high dose of tranquilizer fluid. Soon Ub woke up in a lab where he was experimented on and programmed to be an obedient servant of destruction.

While under the influence of his captors, Ub raided many towns and killed many people under the command of a group of sophisticated bandits. Despite how angry he was programmed to be, his kind heart was tortured from the sights of his own demolition. Soon his own conditioning turned against these bandits and ended their criminal legacy, leaving him to fester and develop a view of the world from a different, brighter perspective. All things cute and innocent he swore to protect with a big, dumb smile on his face, but his past still has ways of taking back over his mind.

[spoiler=Abilities]
Ub is a physical melee weapon fighter, using sheer strength to power through foes and unadulterated constitution to withstand any blow against him. While he doesn’t use magic, his Orc heritage, more specifically his parents, has granted him various perks that aid him in battle:

Greatclub: Ub wields a club that weighs over 200 pounds and is about the size of an above-average human in height. At the handle and the head is an iron brace bolted to it with spikes pointing outward. Ub carries this club around like a twig,

Iron Body: Ub tightens the muscles in his body to form a natural armor that leaves him resistant to any physical damage like blunt weapons, non-sharp projectiles and even some blades. While weapons meant for skin penetration would skewer a normal person, Ub can absorb weapons like arrows or spears enough to where they are not lethal, but they still wound him.

Rage: Ub lets go of all morals and limits, unleashing a torrent of primal anger and overwhelming strength, speed, and will. While raging, Ub’s striking power and speed on the battlefield doubles while physical attacks on him become nearly ineffective. He is also immune to any mild-altering spells or effects, as the influence is overpowered by mindless torment. Weapons that would wound him with Iron Body active would have less effect on him in this state. After a short while of not drawing blood or destroying something, Ub’s rage subsides, making him vulnerable both physically and emotionally. Weapons hurt twice as much as normal to him for a brief period until he is cheered up.

Orcish Will: If Ub is struck with the intent to kill, he can channel his adrenaline to push until the moment of truth. Each time he does this, he gets dumber.

You should be able expect feedbacks on the apps hopefully around this weekend. However, decision would not be finalized until mid-April. I hope that would be acceptable.

For everyone else, more apps would be really nice. While we'll prioritize new participants if possible, new apps by older players are always welcome too~

[spoiler=Something New]

Name: Ajalon

Age: 10

Race: Golem

Sex: None

[spoiler=Appearance]

swordsman_by_jasontn-dbav7wj.jpg

Height: 6.5 feet tall

Weight: 950 pounds

[spoiler=Personality]

Ajalon is, at heart, has a very gentle and curious spirit. Being as they haven't been outside of the dungeon for a very long time, they lack an understanding of a lot of the nuance and intricacies of culture and social interaction. Despite this understood shortcoming, they make an eager effort to learn all that it is that they can learn about the people and the world around them.

Ajalon was taught to have a very strong sense of justice. With their experience in swordplay, they were taught to never draw the sword against an unarmed opponent and to always stand up for those that need defending. While they are naive over social interaction and the subtleties that go along with it, they are very well versed in the ways of honor and nobility; the path of a true warrior.

While Ajalon has a great capacity for patience, it's still possible to break that patience to very volatile and figuratively explosive results. Ajalon is also known for some very stubborn tendencies, often thinking their way to be right unless explicitly shown otherwise.

[spoiler=Biography]

Ajalon has spent most of their life in a dungeon well hidden in a deep cavern in the Valravn mountain range of Oriad Island. Ajalon is the product of years of research and study into the creation of golems and constructs. The hermit wizard that created Ajalon claims that this was a successful stride in imbuing spirit and intelligence into a creature normally as soulless as a golem. This wizard claims that the creation of Ajalon is purely to explore magical curiosities, to see the extend of their supernatural abilities, but there seems to be more going on with Ajalon and their nature.

While this wizard taught and raised Ajalon as best as he could, he fell under a deadly illness two years ago and passed away. Ajalon spent a lot of time in the dungeon, not knowing what it was they should do. With all that time, Ajalon's favorite activity was simply to think and ponder, and as they did so they discovered memories of wide blue skies, green grass, lush trees, and strong mountains that they did not know were there before. With a sudden, strong desire to discover this land, Ajalon eventually found their way out of the dungeon, out into the mountains, and soon the world beyond.

Ajalon then began to wander the land, learning as much as they could, and helping people wherever they needed help. Ajalon's main driving desire is the memories that surface over time, leading them to wonder where they came from, and how they got them. Through Ajalon's travels, they heard of the Cherry Heart guild and the lengths they had gone to completing their quests and helping others. After traveling for some time alone and not getting far, Ajalon got the idea that joining a guild might be the best way to see more of the world and learn what they can.

Ajalon possesses three magical ruby swords; two of a one-handed length and one of a two-handed length. Each is enchanted to be of great strength and difficulty to break, with a vicious sharpness. Ajalon is well trained in how to use each weapon in a variety of styles.

Ajalon's magic is very simple; they possess the ability that, whenever they come into contact with a natural, inanimate material, they can cover their body in a thin skin that possesses the same traits as that material. This "Skin" can be shed with ease.

Finally, Ajalon is able to self-repair their body by absorbing basic earth materials that transform into the same materials that Ajalon is made of (this is done mostly through eating). This process, however, takes as long as a person would take to properly digest food.

[spoiler=Misc.]

  • Theme: https://tomdunkin.bandcamp.com/track/cherry-blossom-respite-demo
  • Ajalon's body is comprised of equal parts hard clay and onyx stone. The clay acts as most of the core body, while the onyx acts as the armor and is what the limbs are mostly comprised of.
  • Ajalon has a mysterious, innate desire to cook food for people and takes every opportunity to do so.
  • Ajalon's taste of food is limited entirely to minerals and earthen materials, meaning they have no idea what other humanoids like in food and has no idea how to make that food taste good.

Surprise, here I be after forever.

[spoiler=Kamaitachi]
Name: Miro Sapat

Age: 20

Sex: Male

Species/Race: Senki

[spoiler=Senki Information]
A forest-dwelling race of weasel-like beastkin. Long known primarily for their mischievous nature along with the swindling and pranking of humans and others, they have in recent years settled into something of an uneasy peace with humans. They've begun integrating into society somewhat, though are still a rare sight outside of a bar in a village near a forest. These days the majority are law abiding and do not trouble passing merchants or the like as they used to. Instead they serve as guides through these areas and some are successful merchants of rare berries and nuts grown high in the tops of large trees.

The Senki tend to be a highly religious and ritualistic people which drives them to seek social interaction in moderately sized communities. They worship a "great spirit" by the name of Senka who is believed to be their progenitor and they have their prophets and oracles claiming to speak his will. While the magic the race exhibits would indicate some communion with spirits, there is no clear evidence of Senka's existence or direct interference in the affairs of the Senki or others. Their customs include: prayers throughout the day and before meals, ceremonial battle preparations including body painting and meditation, yearly tributes to departed family and ancestors, feasts on solstices and equinoxes, and other such things.

In general they tend to despise the term beastkin more than others, claiming their origin to be of a great spirit and not of animals, man or anything similar. This of course varies from individual to individual with the few city-dwelling Senki having become more accustomed to its usage. In general the Senki tend to not hold racial prejudices themselves other than for bird-like creatures but this also varies across individuals.

Senki tend to live a tad longer than humans, well into their hundreds but anything past 120 would be rather extraordinary, and age very similarly to them emotionally and mentally. Physically they maintain their prime much longer and usually remain at least semi-independent until death. Most homes tend to be multi-generational and the care of family and the elderly is a highly honored duty.

[spoiler=Appearance:]
Height: 4'6"/140 cm
Weight: 90 lbs/40 kg

Fairly average size for his kind.

Fashion: As shown is fairly typical of him though will wear shirts as well on rare occasion. Much more common is wearing less than shown, losing the necklace and pants and leaving just the bandage like wrapping. Not unusual to lose even that, particularly at night. Will paint various ceremonial markings all over in a deep red matching the dots between his eyes before serious battles, removing more clothing and adding more markings the more serious the task. Tends to keep the shown scarred eye closed outside of battle. Always has the scythe on him when going anywhere for very long.

[spoiler=Personality:]
Miro seems to be putting in a particular effort to maintaining an abrasive front. One which he struggles to prolong if the initial exchange isn't enough to cement it for someone. He'll tend to be rude or dismissive at first unless pressed on it in which case he'll begin to nervously apologize. There's a clear image in his head of what a Senki Warrior ought to be like and that would seem to be the basis for this. They're calm, collected, and uninterested in most trivial things others busy themselves with. They have deep insights on serious topics when the time is right but never waste words. In essence he's trying to be cool but isn't great at it. This won't stop him from talking like he's dark and brooding and the scar over his eye doesn't help the self-image. Whatever fantastic claims he might have about it, there is in fact no special power in the scarred eye and the fact he often keeps it closed while not fighting is another part of his facade, though it is in part simply easier for him to have it closed. Despite all this he can be an oddly warm and friendly soul. He possesses remarkable emotional intelligence yet this seems to only apply to those other than himself.

He takes his people's customs and religion seriously and can often been seen praying at different times throughout the day or attending to other rites at the appropriate times of the year. While he freely speaks of it, he is not one to push the subject of his beliefs and would not make others go out of their way to facilitate his practices. Nevertheless, a strong sense of pride and honor pervades his actions and feelings. This may seem difficult to understand at first given his style of fighting is far from the classical romantic idealization of direct confrontation without tricks or deception. His scythe is his most cherished possession as shown by the great care he treats it with and the irritation that results of others attempting to touch it.

He shows great disdain for the term beastkin and is irritated by comments about his stature but usually not to great outward display. Remarking on his cute or fluffy nature is a surefire way to embarrass and confuse him. He tries to seem annoyed with small talk but will just as gladly engage in it on things like hobbies and other such things. He tends to be easily fascinated with the architecture of other races and ponders on the differences between it and life among the treetops. Dislikes birds or any bird-like creatures. Lives for rabbit meat regardless of the preparation. Loves swimming and climbing, hates small tight spaces.

[spoiler=Biography:]
Miro's early life was shaped by a desire to be like his father, a master Senki Warrior. He was trained in all the traditions of his people as they captivated his young heart. He lived among the trees of a vast forest and learned the methods of survival and combat as well as Senka worship. He devoted himself to his training yet it was always coupled with a fascination for learning of other things. As he got older his people began to deal more and more with humans and other races, each of which brought a whole world of unique experiences and customs with them. Miro's father was always highly opposed to mixing with outsiders and felt the Senki needed to stay to their own. And while he outwardly agreed to appease his father, Miro always felt there was something to be gained from joining them.

While still fairly young, Miro's village had been attacked by a small group of humans who had claimed the Senki they had entered into a deal with had swindled them. The warriors were sent to fight the men off and the young Miro went as well despite commands to stay away. For his disobedience he received the scar adorning his right eye. He would have lost more had his father not intervened, losing an arm in the process. From this point on Miro took his training much more seriously and developed the ignorant idea of what a Senki Warrior ought to be that drives his initial interactions with people now. Despite his efforts he could never fully adopt the persona.

As he got older and relationships healed between his people and other races, Miro began wandering into human towns and learning of their way of life. While many Senki quickly took to drinking, Miro was drawn to the idea of a guild. It had a certain ring to it, like something of a dream. People banding together to take on daring quests to fight monsters, slay dragons and the like. With his basic training completed, the furthering of his talents was left entirely to his own devices. And so Miro took to travelling and inquiring after guilds, looking for one to join. Few were eager to welcome a Senki to their ranks, particularly one unproved in battle. But as he went along he became more accustomed with other cultures and peoples to the point that now life among humans is slowly becoming the norm for him. He usually ended up doing odd jobs around towns rather than joining guilds but he pressed on, returning home every now and then for various celebrations and feasts and to revitalize his drive. Ultimately he knew his search would be successful. He would prove his father wrong, that mingling with the other peoples of their world would be in their people's best interest.

But first... he has to show the world that the Senki are cool warriors not to be trifled with.

[spoiler=Abilities:]
Magic:
-Korak Senke: A fairly common ability of the Senki is the Korak Senke or Shadow Step and their people's claimed proof of their connection to Senka. At its most basic the user is able to completely blend in with an objects shadow for a few minutes, leaving the user and anything on them undetectable to the normal eye for the duration provided they make no sudden movements. The ability can be used on others as well but they need to be in direct contact with the user and it shortens the duration. More advanced users are said to actually become one with the shadows and are able to move between them but this level of mastery is beyond Miro as of yet.

-Slepilo: A magical attack signaled by the blade of Miro's scythe turning black. Those successfully struck with the weapon thus enchanted are blinded for no more than five seconds, the duration being shortened the brighter the surroundings are (broad daylight cuts it down to 1-2 seconds while being in a more shadowed place lessens it less). The ability is still usable with other weapons but the effect cannot last for more than a second in such instances.

Skills:
-Tisina: The traditional Senki fighting style with major emphasis on silent and stealthy attacks. Those trained are able to keep their breathing quiet in all but the most trying of circumstances and learn to make minimal noise while moving through environments. The emphasis is on speed and evasion rather than brute strength and sturdy defense. As a result, Miro is proficient in hit and run strategies and needs to avoid taking direct hits as much as possible. Results of the training make him very nimble and flexible, allowing for some fairly unusual movements between his four limbs, his tail and tossing his weapon around in the process. The hand/foot-eye-coordination is very strong in him.

-Animal Nature: Compared to the average human Miro's senses of smell and hearing are more powerful. Eyesight is a bit of a trade-off where he sees slightly worse in broad daylight than humans but much better than them at night. As part of his upbringing he's a remarkably skilled climber, able to scurry himself up most things with relative ease if unburdened.

-Wood Carving: Get Miro a small knife and a piece of wood and be amazed at the detailed works of art that result. Will make things as gifts for friends or just to pass the time.

Equipment:
-Kosa: Name of the ceremonial scythe Miro carries. It responds well to the magic he is able to use. It is in fact made for battle and not just ceremony; the edge is razor sharp and the back side is sturdy enough to parry moderate blows. Does have a strap with which to carry it about his back with the blade across his back to prevent any potential accidents with his tail

-Clothing/Accessories: Miro has few things he takes with him, his clothing and necklace as shown in the image on top of a few spares of varying colors are about all he has.

-Varying Knives: Always has a small knife or two running around.

-Tea-Making Set: While rarely on his person, wherever he sets up a home for himself Miro brings a set of utensils and tools which have a two fold purpose. Normally it is used to make tea which Miro is skilled at and uses local herbs (though the tastes might be a bit bitter or extreme for most others). They can also be adapted to make the red body paint Miro will use to decorate his body before important battles or ceremonies and which stains the affected fur red for a day or two. It includes a wooden mortar and pestle both inscribed with various symbols and old Senki writing. Along with this he has a clay teapot which he will make fires under to heat water. Cups and other such utensils helpful in making the tea are included and he has a large clay pot full of dried red berries that are the base of the paint he makes and a brush to apply it with.

Alright, this might not end up be as detailed as I'd like, but hopefully you guys are fine with this.

Though before that, a bit of a disclaimer. This is not a final decision by any means. The apps will only be slated for judgment starting next week. Editing and improving the apps could be done before 10th of April.

[spoiler=Percival/Rudy]

@@God Emperor Cow

For the most part, the app is fine, perhaps playing it a bit too safe but fine nevertheless. I do wonder how does he interact with people in general (the app gives me a vague idea of it, but I'd like to hear something a bit more concrete), and a little bit minor, but can you name the guild he joined as well as the city he's from?

But yeah, I don't see much of an issue with him. For better or worse he's spotless.

[spoiler=Leif]

@@Alaina

I like that you actually went and described how she is outside of the ideals she's trying to emulate. The app is fine for the most part, though just to confirm, she would have pretty much no stewardship capability, right?

[spoiler=Rena]

The app feels...really unfocused and disjointed. Starting with her personality, the duality between her personality off and on duty is actually quite drastic regarding to her tendency to panic easily. It feels like a hard sell if she's really squeamish and traumatized about injuries but can somehow control herself enough to be functional as a soldier, of all things. There's little sense of continuity between her off and on duty personality.

The bio's also quite scattered, though perhaps since it's not done in a chronological manner. With her trauma, even if she mostly got over it, why did she join the cadet academy as a soldier, rather than say, a doctor/nurse? Sure, it does mean that she's protecting others, but it's by injuring and killing others. Wouldn't she be averse to that? You gave the reasoning, but it felt like a stretch compared to the alternatives. That aside, what's the extent of her leg injury? Is it really something that can't be healed by the myriad amount of healing magic available in the setting (which you even mentioned in the bio)? And how much does the limp hampers her?

And for ability, I'm not a fan of her sleeping gas. As-is, it's either a complete blowout or  completely useless in a situation. It's also described as very potent, pretty much unavoidable, and covers a wide radius in a fast time. I'd rather you completely change it, or rework it so that it's not just an ability that can trivialize a situation at hand on-demand, even if I trust you to not utilize it that way.

Also lastly, what sort of family is she from? Her app's title is noble, but she works part time as a florist. She said she tries to impress the doctor with her wealth since she's young, but she also still send money to her family every few months. And since working as a florist wouldn't give her that much of a salary to be qualified as a wealthy...well, it's a confusing situation.

@@Thar

First of all, what's his main reasoning of joining this guild? Personality is fine for the most part, but his tendency to sometimes end up going on devastating rampages made me really wary. And speaking of, while it's perhaps not something you'd need to fix, note that his time being mind controlled by the bandits probably put a large target on his head due to the constant destruction he caused then. Especially with guilds being quite active in dealing with these issues, it might pose quite a problem for him in the future. That aside, can you do a small writeup regarding orcs in the setting? Shouldn't be too long, just a short thing so I can integrate them into the world better.

Not much issues here, but he really makes me wary.

[spoiler=Ajalon]

@@VCR_CAT

After Yui's old golem app, I don't think Ajalon's weight would be something to worry about, but I'm still unsure about him being this heavy, even if I can't figure out a situation where it would really matter outside of long range transportation, which I admit I overlooked when reviewing Yui's old app. He weights far more than what a standard horse carriage could manage to carry after all. Not a dealbreaker, but it's definitely going to be inconvenient writing around this if you don't have anything in mind.

I like that his personality really gives me the feeling that he's still a child in the middle of his development. Biography and ability is fine, though I'd like you to elaborate to me a bit more regarding his repair ability, as well as I'm a bit curious on his combat style and general movement. Does he move akin to a human, or more with the (lack of speed) like the usual golem in media? Just making sure, mostly. That aside, I'd like it if the app also mentions his reasoning of wanting to join CH.

[spoiler=Miro]

I really like the lorepiece you write for Senki, gives them quite a personality and flavor to go with it, which reflects really well on Miro's app himself due to his heavy emphasis to his cultural heritage and values, while at the same time stands as his own weasel too. Bio is fine, and I really like the final line in particular emphasizing his youthful outlook. Ability is fine too, and the flavor you use for them enhances it.

Really solid app. Definitely my favorite out of the bunch.

Though, that said...

While it's 100% a complete coincidence, 4/6 of the new apps so far has a similar feel to them regarding their characterization and motivation. It probably won't affect my judgment, but I do feel wary about it. Don't take this as me wanting you guys to change your apps, but it's mostly an observation.

Please do tell if I made any wrong judgment in my assessments, and thank you for applying to Cherry Heart!
