[spoiler=Archaíos]The remnants of a shattered human soul in a hideous hybrid body of dryad, imp, and fairy genetic material. Has arcane powers, is extremely lightweight, unusually nimble, and seems to be blessed with some form of immortality or massively increased lifespan.

[spoiler=True Origins]How far can a human go before one stops being human?

This was a question that Doctor Johann von Ziegler (circa. 140-220 AC) would devote his entire life to. What is the defining feature of humans that makes them different from anything else? What defines humanity itself? The human body? Consciousness? Having been arrested and exiled from the scientific community after having been caught doing illegal human experiments on prisoners, homeless people, and orphans, his stay in prison for several decades drove what little remained of his humanity and common sense out the window. When he was released later, he was a broken man, but not a defeated one. Somewhere in all of his madness and rambling, he had continued to puzzle over the essence of humanity even while incarcerated.

Selling off his home and relocating to an empty house away far away from the public eye, he took what little remained of his equipment that hadn’t been seized with him. Driven into a frenzied fervor of sleepless nights, drugs, caffeine, alcohol, and an unbreakable determination to see it through even at the cost of operating himself, he would reach a result several years later. Was it a success? That was… debatable.

Using a combination of over three hundred different kinds of extremely potent poisons and other bodily-altering chemicals coupled with a secondary blend of forbidden arcane tonics and the DNA of multiple different magical beings and creatures, Johann von Ziegler would effectively kill himself. He was reaching the near the end of his lifespan, which he himself could feel coming on. Everything was on this last bet, the culmination of almost sixty years of work. If everything went as it was supposed to, it would preserve his consciousness, but kill off his human body entirely, replacing and re-infusing it with the cells of an artifically created hybrid being. The goal was to achieve his old sentience in a new body and prove he was still human and that he had had been right for all those years, as well as potential immortality or a massively increased lifespan.

For the most part, everything had worked successfully. Well, except the most important part. The doctor’s consciousness, memories, and personality were almost entirely destroyed. The poisons had caused massive cell-death across his entire body as designed, but the man’s belief his soul would be unaffected simply had not carried over. What had been accomplished instead, through the magical potion blends used in necromancy and hyper-regeneration, combined with the DNA samples he had collected from the corpses of dryads, imps, and a smattering of fairy dust, was a complete reconstruction of a body. Could one say it was von Ziegler’s though…?

The 80-year old wizened, senile, and sickly, but definitely human man had become a lithe, black-horned child-like creature, with a chilling lack of anything human in its cold, emerald-glass eyes. It had faint memories of its past form, but as the different voices and personalities of von Ziegler, the dryads, imps, and fairies subjugated each other and merged into one complete personality, a new being stepped out. It had no name, yet it wished for a unique one, unlike any of its past personas or forms. Tearing through the documents von Ziegler had left behind, it found a single character referring to this whole project. Name_Small.pngAscendant. And slowly, it enunciated the character based off its faint memories of the human tongue.

“R… o…”

[spoiler=Appearance]Height: 164 cm - Usually floats 7-10 cm off the ground.
Weight: 6.9 kg - impossibly light

[spoiler=Personality]Ro’s mind flits back and forth like a butterfly. Never attached on one thing, always moving on to find new pursuits with an ever constant semi-bemused smile plastered on his face. His eyes can be seen dancing around endlessly as they observe everything around him, the sing-song nature of his voice and his playful behavior only serving to bolster that feeling of buoyancy. If his travels land him with people, he is kind enough towards them to get by without issues.

An unsettling side can reveal itself though every now and then. While most other people have times when they show strong emotions, Ro’s expression, attitude, and sing-song voice remain the same as ever no matter what, which can lead to him appearing insensitive. A glacial river would be a better way to describe him though. The river flows eternal, carrying life in its arms, but the same life-bringing flow of water could just as easily smash something into a rocky demise or drown the unwary. Is the river kind? Is the river evil? It is neither. It is simply there. And much like the river, Ro simply and constantly moves on.

There is however, a motive to what may seem like playful disregard, although he would never disclose that information willingly. Borne from the ramblings of a mad scientist in a gruesome Frankenstein-ish manner, he seeks to grasp what the essence of humanity is. The deadening of his emotions and morality, especially as years became decades and decades into centuries, frightens Ro. He feels as though any remaining traces of his humanity will slip away, leaving only a twisted and dead abomination behind. Thus, he desperately craves and seeks the adrenaline rush from exhilarating and dangerous activities, as it is the only thing that confirms he is still alive and human in his mind. The obsession with this can reach almost suicidal levels, yet Ro cannot change out of the fear of losing what it means to be a human. Even nowadays, over two thousand years later, he still desperately clings onto the shreds of humanity…

[spoiler=Biography]As someone who’s lived for thousands of years, you’d think he’d know a bit more about history he pops in and out of, or even his own life. Despite his age though, Ro’s severe affliction with long-term memory loss means he usually forgets just about everything from the past century or older. To him though, he’d just shrug it off saying it probably wasn’t worth remembering anyways and that no one gave a flying fig about the past. ”Out of sight, out of mind,” he’d probably say. Why bother remembering about something when you can find something new to occupy yourself with? One way or another, he’s managed to arrive in one piece to the present period at the doorsteps of some new and amateurish guild.

Why the obscure guild of Cherry Heart and not some more well-known or prestigious guild? One, Ro remembered enough about the standards to know he wasn’t qualified for any of the elite guilds and didn’t feel like wasting time on applying and then subsequently being rejected. Two, the fame mattered little to him. Three, from his little memories he did retain, the larger guilds tended to be a lot of bureacracy and formality - something he couldn’t be bothered wasting his time going along with.

The one thing that Ro does remember is that he’s lived for some uncertain, yet long period of time. And as decades turn on centuries, the boredom does become just so exhausting. So what better way to spend the years than thrillseeking? Why a guild? Well, why not? It’s not like any individual decision would matter that much anyways, and joining a guild was the whim he settled on after flipping a few coins. It’s not like Ro would be completely new to the experience given his age, but with a long enough break since his last guild thrillseeking rush, it would be enough to satisfy his desire for new stimuli.

What, did you think it was to make closer meaningless relationships or making some family-like bond with people that would’ve died in a century or less anyways?

[spoiler=Abilities]The Secret Garden of the Hesperides
To put it simply, he has the power of chemical synthesis. He is still extremely amateurish though, and cannot create more than a few simple types of plant-based poisons and their respective antidotes. A walking apothecary, if you will, but only a crude and rudimentary one at the moment. When he channels this power, the ends of his hair bangs as well as his hands begin to glow a brilliant green, and in the case of the latter, alight with a cold fire.

As a result of his travels, Ro has occasionally supplmented his stockpile of knowledge by ingesting certain plant poisons. Once taken in, his body will proceed to break it down and store away the chemical structure over the course of around 12-24 hours. Along with it, the antidote will be synthesized and also stored away based off the structure of the poison. Ro himself is immune to most known chemicals, both natural and artificial, and has an unusually high tolerance in general to any such similar substances..

Currently, the only way he can apply the synthesized chemicals is through touch. Anything that comes into contact with his hands can have the chemicals transferred into itself. The only exception is his ability to create what appears to be blue lotus flowers out of thin air. The flower itself can carry any chemical he produced within itself, in a way similar to a honeypot. However, he cannot synthesize more than a few flowers a day, and any flower created this way will turn to black smoke after four hours, and one hour if Ro stays further than three meters or so from the flower.

[spoiler=Trivia]☿ - Does not partake in food or drink.
♀ - Takes some time at the end of each night to wipe down his horns with a soft cloth.
⊕ - The texture of the horns are extremely smooth, but always ice-cold.
♂ - Body temperature: 26.7°C
♃ - Has an unsettling fondness of Nymphaea caerulea (blue lotus).
♄ - Speaks with a strange accent and occasionally slips into an unusual, indecipherable tongue.
⛢ - Loves riddles and jokes.
♆ - Theme Song: Tale of the Forgotten
♇ - Battle Theme Song: Wild Hunt

cool, that's all I needed to know, thx.

[spoiler=Adventure is Out There!]

Name: Mina V. White

Age: 22

Sex: Female

Species/Race: Neko

[spoiler=Appearance]Mina rises to about 5'2" and weighs around 95 lbs. An average size for her species given that she is still young. Her engineering work shows as her brown corset and dress appear worn and are covered in oil smudges and soot, and she doesn't mind the looks she gets from others either. Mina has a lean figure and may seem a bit scrawny to onlookers, but she's a lot stronger than she appears, lifting as much as 200 pounds of items, scrap, whatever. She has smoky black hair that goes down to her shoulders, with a pair of goggles wrapped around her head, and cat ears of the same color on the top of her head, each with a copper earring. She also has a long, black tail with a copper band wrapped around it near the end of it. When she smiles, her sharp, feline teeth can be clearly seen and she has long sharp claws at the tips of her fingers that she can bring out when she needs them.

[spoiler=Personality]Mina is one of those who people who seems to have a smile on her face no matter what, she acts as if something good is waiting for everyone around the corner. Though she can get very serious at times, mostly when she is working on one of her projects but also when someone mentions the word "family" around her. When working on one of her projects, she usually prefers to work by herself and even if she does have someone helping, she would most likely tell them to stay quiet so that she can focus and let her do most of the work. On the subject of family, Mina really doesn't like to be reminded of it, mostly due to the fact that the only family she has left is her little sister. She already cared deeply for Sera, but now that she was the only one left of her family, Mina would do anything in her power to make sure that Sera has a happy life.

Outside her seriousness, she has a peppy tone to her voice and is willing to do some heavy lifting if it means helping others and dreams of one day owning her own airship, so that she may explore and see the world. Mina also has a strong sense of justice after watching her father work so hard to make Taxus a safer city to live in. This sense of justice becomes apparent when Mina sees someone in need and no matter how small or large of a problem, Mina will help to the best of her ability.

[spoiler=Biography]Mina spent most of her years in the city of Taxus along with her father and her younger sister Sera. After her mother died an unfortunate death by the hands of a criminal, Mina's father was left to provide for her and her sister. Mr. White was already a renowned inventor for his use with steamwork, building simple yet complex contraptions that he sold to earn money for him and his daughters, but after the incident that took Mina's mother, Mr. White turned to creating weapons and gear for the military and law enforcement. Though his inventions didn't see much use, his work inspired Mina to follow in her father's footsteps as an inventor and her determination soon paid off when she started constructing little pieces of machinery.

She was only 16 then, now she was on her own as a solo inventor. When she was 20, her father fell ill, and it soon became apparent that Mina and her younger sister would be alone in the world. Right before he passed however, Mina's father gifted her a little box, telling her not to open it until she felt she was ready and to follow her dreams and take care of her sister. She took his words to heart and set out from Taxus to travel as a hand for hire, she occasionally wrote back to her sister, mostly on things such as "How are things?" or "Are you ok?", and she would always send a sum of the money she earned from working to her sister.

Mina has been traveling for two years now and small jobs were getting scarce. With her sister in mind, Mina set her sights on something bigger, a guild. Not only would she have a place to stay, but the money she would earn from quests would be more than enough to care for her sister. It was definitely better than waiting around for a small job to pop up and hey, helping others doesn't seem so bad either.

[spoiler=Abilities/Equipment]Eagle Eye: A high powered musket of Mina's own design, despite its crude looks it can get the job done. With a high end scope that can see for about 200 yards and a barrel capable of firing bullets at velocities capable of smashing through wood and badly denting metal. Mina is always looking for ways to improve Eagle Eye but has no luck in figuring out future upgrades for it.

Sparkplug: Mina could go on and on about how this weapon got its name, Sparkplug is a flexible coil of metal made into a sturdy and powerful whip. Mina installed a device into this whip, allowing it to produce an electrical shock capable of knocking out a grown adult and stunning larger creatures. The device has its errors however as it is very prone to overheating and could implode and/or short circuit, causing harm to Mina.

Cat-like Reflexes: Thanks to her heritage as a Neko, Mina is capable of jumping higher, running faster, and climbing faster than a normal person. She also has incredible balance, able to stand on a beam or wire not even an inch long.

[spoiler=Misc]Battle Theme:https://youtu.be/Cx0r4_btOQc

-Mina has an unusual fear of slimes, but she doesn't really like to talk about why.

-Has a sweet spot behind her left ear, any petting or scratching there calms her down almost immediately.

-Has more injuries from working than she cares to mention.

App looks fine, abilities are fine, personality is a bit plain but it's fine, however, I find it a bit questionable that she would leave her sister alone like that, even if the goal is to get money. Without her father, Sera's completely alone as a (seemingly helpless, with how much Mina has to take care of her) orphaned teenager in a big city, and Mina just leaves her alone to fend for herself, even if she sends her constant money. It would make a lot more sense if Mina tries finding jobs on the city itself or leaves the Capital along with Sera.

Wellmeaning as she is, that's a recipe for disaster. Unless it's intentional, it's best to fix this.

"I can do it! Let me do it!"

Personal Information

Name: Emily Gothel

Age: 14

Sex: Female

Race: Human

[spoiler=Appearance]Picture: http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=60094984

Emily oozes with innocent and cute princess vibes, from her expensive clothes to her uncalloused hands and her prim demeanor. She is only budding into puberty at the moment and has yet a very petite figure, standing at 149 cm and weighing 39 kg.

[spoiler=Personality]Introverted by nature, Emily teeters between wanting to be in her own world, quietly reading or studying magic, and feeling brave enough to branch out to new things and new people. At times, she can be upbeat and cheerful, and at other times, she is demure and quite reserved. Emily has no close friends and hopes to find some coming out into the world; she was always busy with academics and research at school and her peers were all several years older than her. Also, due to her sheltered upbringing and aristocratic pride, she was quite judgemental based on looks, ability, and social status, which made her selection of potential friends even smaller.

Unlike many nobles, Emily never appears openly arrogant. Instead she is very prone to humble bragging and subtly, or at least what she thinks is subtly, showing off. She is used to praise from a young age, and while praises embarrass her in a way, she is at the same time very happy when receiving them. Half of her motivation is seeking praise and glory.

The other half is simply her love of magic and her dreams of adventure from all the fantastical stories she has read. Her eyes are often far, far on the horizon. This poses considerable danger to her as she has an exaggerated perception of her own abilities and very blind optimism. As a pampered fourteen-year-old, Emily has a long road ahead for her to mature.

[spoiler=Biography]While Emily's background is quite distinguished, there doesn't yet seem to be anything particularly extraordinary about her origins. Hailing from the City of Grand Sorceries, Quercus, Emily is one of the youngest intermediate studies graduates of the all-girls magic academy, St. Yvonne-Marie's Institute of Witchcraft. Although she was an adoptive daughter, her parents were aristocratic mages and always provided an easy path for their beloved daughter. Rather than pursue advanced studies however, Emily held off on the offer and chose the route usually taken by less outstanding graduates—joining a Magic Guild. She wanted to pave her own path, and due to her excellent grades, the school would accept her back at any time.

When deciding on what guild to join, she felt there was no meaning in joining a famous and well-established guild (even if she was sorely tempted to join Sylph's Kiss, the guild of her idol, the celebrity wizard Paris Valentine), but she had no means to create her own guild either, so she decided on a relatively unknown little guild called Cherry Heart over in the City of Adventure.

[spoiler=Abilities]As a graduate of an old and acclaimed school, Emily is quite learned in matters of the arcane and is adept in general usage of magic. Basic things without real combat potential like creating small fires and producing water are no problem for her. She is also relatively sensitive to magic and can infer to a minor degree what unknown magics do.

Her main study of magic is in the Void Circles Art, one of the 72 Lesser Magics of St. Yvonne-Marie's Grimoire. They predominantly deal with drawing magic circles that manipulate spacetime. The circles can vary greatly in power depending on how they are drawn at the cost of being quite complex and time-consuming to set up. They can also be set up with various conditions to trigger or release.

  • Mana Drawing: This is not directly a part of the Void Circles, but is simply the ability to draw with magic ink and then move the ink drawing onto a surface before it dissipates.
  • Space Sealing Circle: Any inanimate object(s) or magic can be sealed inside. Time frozen inside the circle. This circle can be drawn on any surface or in the air with Mana Drawing. The circle must release what's inside and have its mana supply replenished before taking in anything new.
  • Life Sealing Circle: This is the circle can be used to contain sentient beings. Time frozen inside the circle. This can only be drawn on something stationary as the creator must account for the position of the ley lines in order to align with them. It is also possible to use a large array to simulate the effects of ley lines and requires highly expensive materials. The circle must release what's inside and have its mana supply replenished before taking in anything new.
  • Area Binding Circle: This circle merely creates powerful barrier around its circumference that can be taxing to maintain. It must also be maintained on a stationary surface.
  • Twin Switch Circle: Two identical circles must be drawn on stationary surface. This circle allows things to swap places, however activating it exhausts the magic and must be repaired for repeated uses.
With extensive magical research and countless failures, Emily was able to create the Void Ring. Carved from thin layers of diamond using a microscopic magic laser before being encased in a protective layer of magic-conductive mithril, the ring is an extremely advanced application of the Sealing Void Circles and contains a small cabin along with various objects and furnitures. Things inside the ring can be taken out at will, including the entire cabin.

[spoiler=Miscellaneous]

Personality and backstory's pretty basic but not problematic, however, the basis of her power is really concerning. If you can, please convince us that this power is a good idea.

Looks a lot better than the last time, especially with the trimmed personality. I'll let Skaia and Saiku review them since you already know my opinion on him.

That's all for now.

Fixes can still be done until the specified date and time, so keep it in mind! We're aiming to start before Monday PST, so hopefully the final judgment can come fast.

Also, I have added the entry of an NPC into my application on the first page, and an entry on the Magic System of Arbolia on the opening post, under the Database Tab. I believe this should not change anything on your apps, however it'll be something to keep in mind.

Thank you for your interest~

The circles aren't going to advance much further than this in terms of use. She has more or less mastered what's in the book on this particular magic.

Mainly it will be used against enemies whose attacks are slow enough she can prepare for it and seal it and fling it back, or to be used as a trap.

For those of you who didn't get in, we do indeed have our reasons for them as listed below.

[spoiler=Final Judgement Reviews]

Emeryx  Admiral_Stalfos19

The character is kind of a mess in that they are in no ways a well adjusted person with zero conversational skills and absolutely no spine to speak of. This is only made worse by the fact that the bio does nothing to explain why they are this mess of a person in the first place.

Garrison -  Jakeronijo

The app is sort of barebones as to what the character actually is like. They seem to have a few different traits on them but does not go into explaining these traits, such as his manipulative aspect (or if he is manipulative at that,) in any sort of detail.

Emily - Aix

The app was similarly barebones, though more in bio in this case. The biggest issue lied in their powers being pretty problematic and all or nothing by design, and trouble in regards to her growth in this area.

With all that said there are still a few characters that had some gray area to them and thus they will be discussed in this area below:

[spoiler=Gray Areas]

Kasayee - Shining Star CowCow

Still some concerns on the motivation front but will see how things pan out.

Serena - Muddy Mania

The fact that they are gender flipped feels somewhat tacked on. This is mostly due to them having already gotten over and used to the fact that they are female at this point, thus making the most interesting part of this concept already passed.

Ro - Rem

Mostly in regards to their power. Will require a bit of a chat with the hosts later on as to the exact limitations and details of it.

With that, judgement has passed.

Alright! With the IC post done and with how the guild has officially started, there are a few things that I wanted to mention right now.

First, the database has finally been updated! RIght now, it has all the lore pieces posted on this thread by you guys, and it's also been updated with some extra flavor entries, mainly on Cherry Heart, the building, and on this world's currency (name may subject to change). It also has added information about Guild Ranks and Guild Points. Reading the database is not mandatory, but it's always nice to keep in mind~

Second, of course, would be about the quests themselves! As been mentioned on the OOC segment of the latest IC post, it will be detailed more here.

Currently, this is the list of available quests to be taken in this round. Please choose one of these quests and confirm your choice either by posting in this thread or personally messaging me on Skype (not on the group chat, I don't want it to get buried). We're aiming to start the quests as soon as possible, so once everyone had made their choice, expect two or three days of downtime before the quests are up.

The three most chosen quests would be the quests that we'll run.

[spoiler=Some things to note about quests]

1. The monetary rewards are mainly there for flavor. ??? rewards would generally be more tangible though.

2. Guild Points reward of a quest, aside serving its mentioned purpose, also indicates how long or hard the quest would be relative to other quests of the same rank.

3. I will enforce a more tangible chance of failure in regards to D-rank quests. In E-rank, unless your characters screwed up big time, this should not be an issue. I will not be unfair, but mistakes would have a more tangible effect on D-rank quests right now.

4. Quests are non-repeatable. New quests would be available to replace taken quests.

5. The last two quests are exceptions to any of this rule.

Thanks for your attention, and it's time to start our questing!
