[Legacy] Guardian-Summons and Guardian-Callers, two intertwined archtypes inspired by Final Fantasy

edit: I was unaware when I thought this up that "Invoked" monsters are also based on Final Fantasy summons, oh well

So I was reading comments on Arc-V episode 143 and https://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/user/19497-british-soul/ said that Gongensaka's new synchro reminded them of the demon train from "The Legend of Zelda - Spirit Tracks". What that reminded me of is the Final Fantasy VIII Summon called "Doom Train". That got me thinking about making a final fantasy summon based set. Just as Kaiju in Yugioh are clear references to giant monsters in Godzilla movies, these are references to Final Fantasy's summons. Before you ask, yes they are treated as "Guardian" monsters for cards like "Arsenal Summoner".

Guardian-Summon Reflector Carbuncle

Level 4

LIGHT

Spellcaster/Fusion/Effect

1000/1800

Must be special summoned by a "Guardian-Caller" card's effect and cannot be special summoned by other ways. You can only control 1 "Guardian-Summon Reflector Carbuncle". During the End Phase, if this card was sent from your side of the field to your Graveyard this turn: You can draw 1 card. During either player's turn: you can activate this effect; all monsters you currently control gain the following effect unitl the End Phase. *Before resolving an opponent's card effect that targets this face-up card (and no other cards), you can either negate that effect or choose another card on the field that would be an appropriate target for that card/effect and you do, that card/effect now targets the chosen card.

Flavor Notes:

Based on the re-occurring Carbuncle summon, which casts "reflect" on your party, causing spells to bounce back and hit enemies

Rulings Notes:

- "You can shuffle this card into the deck" is written that way so that reflector carbuncle or a maindeck monster that has gained its effects, such as Phantom of Chaos, can activate this effect

- "Before resolving an opponent's card effect that targets this face-up card, you can either negate that effect or choose another card on the field that would be an appropriate target for that card/effect and you do, that card/effect now targets the chosen card." Is a lingering effect, much like the forbidden lance's debuff. Thus Skill Drain won't remove it once its been applied

- Unlike Cairngorgon anti-lumscent knight, changing a target doesn't start a chain. The effect is applied just before resolving the relevant chain link, much like Machina Fortress's discard effect and cards like Skull Archfiend of Lightning's negating effect.

Guardian-Summon Fire Devil

Level 7

FIRE
Fiend/Fusion/Effect

2500/2500

Must be special summoned by a "Guardian-Caller" card's effect and cannot be special summoned by other ways. You can only control 1 "Guardian-Summon Fire Devil". If this card is Special Summoned: You can inflict 200 damage to your opponent for each card on the field, then you can destroy 1 monster your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the original ATK the destroyed monster had on the field and this card cannot declare an attack this turn. You can only use this effect of "Guardian-Summon Fire Devil" once per turn.

Flavor Notes:

A nod to Ifrit, the re-occurring fire themed summon of the games. I'm aware of how similar it's effect is to Performapal Gatlingouhl but I thought that this effect fit the flavor very well so I chose it anyway.

Rulings Notes:

After you inflict damage, you can chose to either destroy a monster and not attack with Fire Devil that turn, or not destroy a monster and still be able to attack. This choice is made when your resolving the effect, similar to "Magical Dimension"

Guardian-Summon Dragon Overlord

Level 9

DARK

Dragon/Fusion/Effect

3000/3000

Must be special summoned by a "Guardian-Caller" card's effect and cannot be special summoned by other ways. You can only control 1 "Guardian-Summon Dragon Overlord". If this card is Special Summoned: you can destroy as many monsters your opponent controls as possible, and if you do, inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each monster destroyed, also you cannot attack directly for the rest of this turn. Unaffected by your opponent's spell and trap effects. If this card attacks an opponent's monster, it gains 1000 ATK during the Damage Step only.

Flavor notes:

Based on the re-occuring dragon summon Bahamut, whose mega flare ability heavily damages all enemies

Guardian-Summon Weapon Master

Level 6

EARTH

Warrior/Fusion/Effect

2300/2300

Must be special summoned by a "Guardian-Caller" card's effect and cannot be special summoned by other ways. You can only control 1 "Guardian-Summon Weapon Master". If this card is special summoned: roll a six-sided die and apply the appropriate effect, this card must be face-up on the field to resolve this effect. *1 or 2: inflict 500 damage to your opponent. *3 or 4: this card's ATK becomes double its original ATK until your opponent's next End Phase, but while this effect is applied, it cannot attack directly  *5 or 6: Send 1 monster your opponent controls to the graveyard and if it left the field by this effect, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the original ATK the sent monster had on the field.

Based on Gilgamesh

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Gilgamesh_(Final_Fantasy_VIII)

Guardian-Summon Lethal Locomotive

Level 7

DARK

Machine/Fusion/Effect

Must be special summoned by a "Guardian-Caller" card's effect and cannot be special summoned by other ways. You can only control 1 "Guardian-Summon Lethal Locomotive". Cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects. If this card attacks, your opponent cannot effect monster's effects until the end of the Damage Step. If this card attacks an opponent's face-up monster, at the start of the damage step: that monster's DEF becomes 0 and it loses ATK equal to the DEF lost by this effect. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

Design Notes:

Based on Doomtrain:

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Doomtrain

I'd only ever seen doomtrain in videos, so I decided to get creative. I wanted lethal locomotive to be able to run over almost any superheavy samurai monster, if it LL attacks it first. This includes their own doomtrain rip off: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Superheavy_Samurai_Steam_Fiend_Tetsudo'o

Guardian-Caller Healer

Level 4

LIGHT
Spellcaster/Effect

600/1000

Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Guardian-Caller" monster from your hand or graveyard; discard 1 monster and if you do, special summon 1 "Guardian-Summon" monster from your extra deck with the same original attrbute and type as the sent monster whose level is up to 1 different then the banished monster's level/rank. It cannot be tributed and is shuffled into your extra deck during your opponent's End Phase. During each of your End Phases: Gain 400 LP for each monster you currently control.

Design Notes:

In final fantasy X at least, the summoner is also the party's healer. This style of summon would allow for a variety of hybrid decks to be built using Guardian-Callers

.

Guardian-Caller Mage

Level 5

LIGHT

Spellcaster/Effect

2000/1000

If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Normal Summon/Set this card without Tributing. Once per turn:: You can banish 1 "Guardian-Caller" monster from your hand or graveyard; banish 1 monster from your graveyard and if you do, special summon 1 "Guardian-Summon" monster from your extra deck with the same original attrbute and type as the banished monster. It cannot be tributed and is shuffled into your extra deck during your opponent's End Phase.

Design Notes:

Another option for Summoning.

Guardian-Caller Archer

Level 4

EARTH

Warrior/Effect

1500/1000

Once per turn: You can target 1 "Guardian-Summon" monster in your graveyard and 1 face-up monster on the field; shuffle the first target into the Deck, and if you do, destroy the second target. This card cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect.

Design Notes:

Lets you re-use your Guardian-Summon monsters without having to use cards like jar of avarice

Guardian-Caller Champion

Level 4

EARTH

Warrior/Effect

1800/1600

When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. During either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated that targets a "Guardian-Summoner" or "Guardian-Caller" monster you control (except during the Damage Step) while there is another "Guardian-Caller" card in your graveyard with a different name: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate that effect.

Design Notes:

The champion protects the others including the summoner, in a nod to final fantasy X

Guardian-Caller Angel

Level 4

DARK
Fairy/Effect

1500/2200

When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn, this face-up Defense Position card cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects. If this card is sent to the graveyard: you can add 1 "Guardian-Caller" monster from your deck to your hand, except "Guardian-Caller Angel". You can only use this effect of "Guardian-Caller Angel"  once per turn.

Design Notes:

An original idea, not based on a character class. Also the deck needed a searcher.
