Using my body as a shield alongside Strike and Warning seems a bit much. Too much LP payment.

AFAIK, at least OCG players aren't using as many Solemn Traps anymore, instead preferring My Body as Shield, Dimensional Barrier and floodgates, so the LP payments aren't as heavy. I have seen them run 2 Solemn at most: Judgment and Warning; but since TCG has no Judgment, Warning + 1 Strike should be the go-to pair.

Yeah according to KoJ's last statement any monster special summoned from the Extra has to go to Extra Monster Zone.

that is going to wreak havoc on rank-up mechanics in the main zone lol.

starlight road isn't even a proper summon though, i don't get why they'd rule like that for it. i mean, circumventing restrictions would be amazing, but i don't like that even improper summons have to be placed properly now.

So anything from the extra goes to the ED zone.

Konami really doesn't want me playing the Link format huh.

which is the issue i have with ranking up from a regular spot in the field. if i reborn a Xyz monster to a normal spot, and can't rank it up simply because i lack links, then that's bull. rank ups already require a decent amount of commitment, and if you have to go through that many extra  hoops to put a monster on the board, then the mechanic is at least half dead at that point.

starlight might be justifiable, it's a monster fresh from the extra deck, with no relation to anything on the field, but ranking up a monster in the normal zone, really should be allowed regardless of links.

Rank-Up is already a pretty crap mechanic, but assuming that you can ladder from the Extra Zone, I don't really see why it would matter that much

If you want to Rank-Up from Main Zone that would usually mean you actually already have something in the Extra Zone, which A. Means that you should be playing fine for now regardless and B. Chances are you could Rank-Up whatever it's in the Extra Zone anyways

I guess something like Soul Shave suffers, but just as I'm sure many people are happy to see Amorphages die, I'm pretty much fine with Raidraptors losing some more options. They were already fairly linear before, so Sack Rank-Up Or Die isn't too much of a deviation anyways.

because that means that you damage the ability of decks that use the mechanic heavily. which is also my current build. not complaining too much, since yes, there's still options, but now that you can't even rank up in a main zone, raid raptors are neutered badly as far as how well they can maintain a board outside of ulti falcon spam. they still have some alternate options, and i'll be rebuilding to better flow to said options, but as of now, they are very badly hindered by the new rank-up ruling. same goes for starlight road, it's not terrible, but the fact that it will now take up your lone ED spot, means that many decks, will no longer want, or even be able to, to run it.

as far as them being linear they were by not really linear before, outside of the Xyz spamming, which doesn't actually equal linear, they have/will have had multiple options and routes to take. there's a lot of nuance in the way the deck runs, be it the S/T's sent and searched in preparation for each situation, to the way you build your ED, which can run anywhere from rank up spam to R4 spam to Ultimate plopping to even running a few side synchros. you can't do much of what the deck once could, and it's likely going to suffer greatly for it in the new format.RR's have multiple branches. they may have linear plays per hand, because your normal is insanely vital towards starting up usually. but they can have some insane variation as a whole once off the ground. un/fortunately, starlight road, will be in limbo until we see exactly how they plan to handle link monsters. (and how many they give us in the first few months)
