Number 39: Utopia Shell

Experiment time, a LINK-1 monster that uses a specific monster to be Link Summoned. I figured that this way, you could make it have high ATK while not requiring a lot of monsters, but instead require specific one instead. I chose Utopia here because it's already a Deck that does similar things to Link Summoning, and that it's both generic, but still requires a bit to actually get out first, so the ATK would be justified. I wonder if we will see Link Monsters that use the same kind of design as this one down the line, because that could be quire interesting.

Number 39: Utopia Shell
Warrior/LIGHT/Link
Link Arrows: Down
"Number 39: Utopia"
If this card points to a monster, it cannot be targeted for an attack. Once per turn, if a monster this card points to is targeted for an attack: You can negate the attack, and if you do, this card gains 500 ATK. If this card is destroyed while in your possession: You can target 1 "Number 39: Utopia" in your GY; Special Summon it, but its ATK and DEF become 0 and it cannot be used as material for an Xyz Summon.
2500/LINK-1

TBH, I already brought up the idea of using this as a way to make upgrades for monsters (I named Dark Magician), and I'm glad to see I'm not alone in that idea.

Honestly, it's just more removal bait, which means it's fine. It gives access to a LINK-1 in exchange for 2 monsters, which is kinda weak, but the effects and stats make up for it.

However, my concern is that this can be used as Xyz Material. While it does lack a level, Utopic ZEXAL and Utopic Dragon still make use of this, with the former being a more flaring point.

You unlock a zone, get a second ED Monster (Say, rafflesia), then upgrade into ZEXAL.

Requires lolrum, but feels like it's not exactly a safe design space.

I suppose I could add a clause that prevented it from being used as an Xyz Material, though at the same time, taking away from Utopia being unable to do this seems a bit weird, even if those were designed with Xyz Monsters in mind, not this card.
