Free Money for Everyone!

Or, more aptly put, the idea of a "Universal Basic Income". Was nearly implemented in the States (by Nixon of all people!) and there have been many trials and experiments where the results have been a resounding success. The idea is that you give everyone in your country a set amount of money every month, that ensures they are above the poverty line. There are no conditions and everyone gets it, no matter what your income beforehand. I won't post a wall of text with my opinions, I'll leave this pretty open-ended. Go crazy.

Where is the money coming from?

Believe you me, I want tax increases just as much as the next guy, but I can't imagine most people feel the same way there.

And it's not like they can just print more money to keep up with the demand, because I N F L A T I O N B O I S.

It would most likely have to be paid for by cracking down on corporate tax avoidance/evasion as well as possibly a financial transaction tax on financial service companies (something the leader of the opposition party in the UK has proposed).

Though in theory, it will actually pay for itself. It's estimated that poverty costs the US $500bn a year through things like policing, benefit administration, health costs and limiting peoples' potential. A policy like this would cost an estimated $175bn annually. So long term, this could save up to $325bn a year for the US, which is huge.
