Sergeant Guy Artwork

Recommended Posts

Shy Guys are cute and mysterious....

They hide their true faces behind a mask and talks in a strange and funny noise

So, after a little research on the Shy Guy species, I decided to create an artwork depicting one of the main Shy, the Sergeant Guy who wields a pipe and a magic wand...

sergeant_guy.jpg

The backgrounds are made on separate layers with building blocks in mind (since shy guys love toys)

The color green matches up with the Sergeants scheme

Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated..

Did you just layer a bunch of backgrounds than filter it to have the grainy effect? The render is just plastered on with a stroke and then a brush stroke behind it. What exactly did you do...?

I mean if it was individual squares that they put down, they certainly have something going for them in a positive way.

Well, to summarize, what I did was to create a custom background by removing building blocks from the center of a full building block image to make a frame like structure, then copy the background a few times, alter the sizes to make a tunnel like structure. (Into 4 different layers).

  • Then, shifting the hue/saturation of each layer to match the green color.
  • Apply a grainy filter to each of them
  • Import a Sergeant Guy Artwork from Super Mario Wiki, added a stroke effect, drop shadow, and inner shadow
  • The finishing touch is an outer glow effect

Made in Adobe Photoshop CS5.5

honestly stuff like this could make some really cool custom images

Thank you for your motivation!

Well, I intended to use this image for my "Sergeant Guy" Card and as an alternative for my profile pic on other sites/webs, since Shy Guy's are cute, mysterious, and spooky at the same time.

The Shy Guy is created to stand out against the background with its thick outline and vivid glow and this is my chance to try out multiple background layering to create a tunnel like effect.
