D/D Savant Albert

Fiend/Pendulum/Effect

DARK

Level 5

Scale 8

ATK 1900/DEF 0

Pendulum Effect: Once per turn: You can target 1 card in either player's Pendulum Zone; return it to the hand, and if you do, it cannot be placed in the Pendulum Zone for the rest of this turn (even if this card leaves the field

Monster Effect: When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can send this card from your hand to the GraveyardSet 1 Spell/Trap Card from your hand. That Set card can be activated during this turn.

what a weird card. Why not just set the Spell/Trap Card from your hand earlier? You can dodge Twin Twisters, I guess, but that's about it. And the pendulum effect is pointless because you can't reset the scale if you choose your own like Trampolynx and if you use it on your opponent they'll just activate it again when their turn comes.

Oh yeah, also pendulums got bad

That's user error, and doesn't warrant having a card made for it.

Not very funny

Ok then, what if you want your opponent to attack into 5 set backrow, but they were only willing to attack into 4? I think this card has its merits.

Make it add from Grave, limit it to Dark Contracts, and it's pretty all right.

But then it doesn't work unless you have a Dark Contract in grave. What this is really good for is setting backrow that you didn't manage to set during your turn.

That's user error, and doesn't warrant having a card made for it.

And "user error", as you put it, is part of the game. People don't play optimally, and this covers up for your non-optimalness. It's not a good card, but it genuinely has niche use.

if you misplay, you learn from it, and you don't do it again.

if you need a card to make up for misplaying, that's evidence of a bad player who can't learn from their mistakes.

Remember that Lamia is a thing, and it would be useable to cheat things like Kali Yuga and Beowulf. It wouldn't be the first time that Konami radically changes how a card works to better fit the theme of the deck.

I think the most use of the Monster Effect, plot device aspect ignored, is because D/Ds do stuff with adding Contracts from the Deck or Graveyard, such as when Wave Caesar dies, so an effect to Set that card and use it is...potentially useful (but not fantastic), in which case, the card is only being run for its Scale and Pendulum Effect, both of which are decent enough.
