When a Synchro Monster is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck: You can banish up to 2 cards from either player's Graveyard. You can target 3 banished monsters, including at least 1 Tuner monster; return them to the Graveyard, and if you do, you can Special Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone. You can only use each Pendulum Effect of "Sterlingflame Dragon" once per turn.

1 Tuner + 1 or more Synchro Monsters
When this card is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck: You can banish 1 card from your hand; banish up to 1 card each from the field and Graveyard. Banish any monster destroyed by battle with this card. If this card in the Monster Zone leaves the field by a card effect: You can place it in your Pendulum Zone.

So, this was designed for VCR's contest, but I ended up designing the rest of these cards around it a few days later. The art of this card, Vortex Dragonewt, is from Cardfight!! Vanguard... As all of these cards are. I wanted to use 2 cards related to this one in CFV to make a Lv. 6 and an upgraded version of this card, but I ended up wanting to design a small archetype around it, so this happened.

[spoiler=General Design and Sterlingflame Dragon design notes]

The deck is designed around a similar concept to Performapal/PK/Speedroid/PP in regards to the dimensional dragons, but the actual inspiration for Sterlingflame and the related cards?

Jack Atlas and Red Dragon Archfiend. Sterlingflame is meant to be a reimagined RDA-type boss, but with versatility due to the fact it's a Pendulum... Which I always thought was less scary than the game treated it, especially now with Links. And, yes, this was designed with Links in mind.

However, I wanted to continue the legacy of RDA with something more original... Something possible, by the game's rules, but not really explored, while keeping with RDA.

I had a big burning dragon, though this was based on the idea of flames of judgment and/or purification. This drew from Vortex Dragonewt's original archetype, Perdition/Purgation, which had connections to Purgatory themes, but I decided to take it its own way instead, so the banished pile counts as "purgatory". It has the power to send the living or dead there, as well as the power to send them on to the afterlife (Graveyard).

So, where RDA represents Hell/the devil, this represents a different take on the afterlife. It's also an "ascended" being, which plays into a Pendulum. It doesn't go to the Grave or Banished Pile when it dies, but to the Extra Deck or "Heaven". It won't go there unless you choose for it to go there/it gets killed while in the scales/by battle, but it still belongs in Heaven, as opposed to Hell or Purgatory. Even if it sends itself to Purgatory along with the other target, via its On-Summon effect... It can return immediately from taking them there, and then return them in order to return from his journey.

This also means it can come down from Heaven, go to Purgatory, come back to observe... Thenm return to a Main Deck Monster Zone, instead of the Extra Deck Monster Zone. You put a new Synchro in the EMZ to finish its requirements (generic usage moreso than in-theme), and doing so allows you to put 2 Synchros on the board, one of which has a pretty decent battle effect.

I felt that 2 monsters was too easy a condition, so I bumped it to three. Posted the wrong version at first, but quickly fixed that.

The other Pendulum Effect, which I touched on lightly... it's moreso one of judgment, but it's not exactly the most flavor. It was a playability/generic use thing, but it was needed, because JUST a self-summon, quality though it seems to be, doesn't do enough, especially when it's just a 3K bad-touch beater.

That battle effect was also for the sake of feeling rival ace-like, as they often have a battle-related effect of some sort. Hell Armageddon (sorta as a monster, defo as a scale), Galaxy-Eyes, and RDA (Hot Red and OG) all do, and I wanted to continue this. It's not the strongest ever, but when paired with the other effect and Pendulum nature, I felt it needed just a liiiittle more in order to push it over the brink, and I think it did just that.

Now, back to the original point of "possible within the game but unexplored"... This card can be made with 2 tuner monsters and nothing else, like XX-Saber Gottoms. Sure, one of those tuners would need to be a Synchro Tuner, but the general point remains. "Double Tuning" or more is possible. It doesn't have to be summoned like that, but it can be.

This was also done as a way to seperate it from Crystal Wing, who would probably still be the superior choice. With Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon's anime reveal, I feel even more vindicated in doing this.

Overall, it was a bit cluttered, but as I touched on at the end of the contest... that's just a flaw with Extra Deck Pendulums. I will work on trying to figure out a way to do it better, and I have an idea, but that's not for this card.

The rest of the deck is also very Jack/RDA based, with a mix of Red Rising/Wyvern, Tyrant, and the "Red" archetype, be it anime or not, used as influences in the design, but updated.

Deck would probably be played by a girl, I don't have the exacts for her yet.

With that out of the way, here are the remaining cards!

[spoiler=Flame Dancers and Support - 5]

If you control no monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, but it can only be used as Synchro Material for the summon of a LIGHT Monster. You can banish this card from your Graveyard and target 2 banished cards: return them to the Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "Dawnflame Dancer" once per turn.

During your Main Phase, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; add 1 LIGHT Spellcaster-type Tuner monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use the effect of "Lifeflame Dancer" once per turn.

If you control a LIGHT Wyrm-type Synchro Monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand as a level 2 monster, but it is banished when it leaves the field. During your Main Phase, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; draw 2 cards, then discard 1 card. You can only activate each effect of "Skyflame Dancer" once per turn.

You can target 1 Level 4 or lower monster you control: Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 LIGHT Synchro Monster. These Synchro Materials are banished instead of being sent to the Graveyard. You can only use the effect of "Flickerflame Dancer" once per turn.

Add 1 "Flame Dancer" monster from your Deck to your hand. If a LIGHT Wyrm-Type Synchro monster(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can banish this card from your Graveyard instead. You can only activate 1 "Ceremony of Purifying Flames" per turn.

1 Tuner + 1 or more monsters
When this card is Special Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 banished monster as a level 2 monster, but its effects are negated. You can only Special Summon 1 "Pureflame Dragon" per turn. If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro Material: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; banish 1 card from either player's Graveyard.

LIGHT monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. You can target 3 banished monsters, including at least 2 Tuner monsters; return them to the Graveyard, and if you do, you can Special Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone. You can only use the Pendulum Effect of "Ardentflame Dragon" once per turn.

1 Tuner + 1 or more Synchro monsters

When this card is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck: You can banish all monsters on the field, then, if this card was Synchro Summoned using a Pendulum Monster as Synchro Material, banish all Spell and Trap cards on the field. Banish any monsterthat would be sent to the Graveyard. If this card in the Monster Zone leaves the field by a card effect: You can place it in your Pendulum Zone.

I won't go over specific design notes with these, at least not yet, and I DID cover the general theme a bit above. I'll tell you the order they were designed in, though.

  1. Sterlingflame Dragon (durr)
  2. Pureflame Dragon
  3. Flickerflame Dancer
  4. Ardentflame Dragon
  5. Lifeflame Dancer
  6. Skyflame Dancer
  7. Ceremony of Purifying Flames
  8. Dawnflame Dancer (meant as a tie-together)

A couple extra notes... Deck was designed with this gimmick of being all Tuners, barring the two Pendulums, but that also makes them better generically, I feel. It allows you to hybridize better, because you don't need to worry about "BUT THE TUNERS NEED THE NON-TUNERS TO WORK AND AAAAGH".

I feel it would also be interesting to see, because it would mean tag duels and the like would be fun to see/it would be more difficult to disrupt them, with how they have tuners upon tuners.

ps. i know there's synergy with the blue-eyes tuners sorta lol
