=====

Aloha mai kākou!

Welcome to the 8th YCM Pokémon Tournament.
This will be a battle of supremacy until only one Pokemon remains.

Trainers, are you ready to put your teams to the ultimate test?

NOMINATION STATUS: OPEN

=======

[spoiler=Rulebook]

First and foremost, all YCM rules apply.

Any rulebreaking WILL result in forum punishments, such as warn increases, post locking, suspension (temporary banning) / permaban, in addition to being barred from participating for the rest of the tournament.

(Seriously guys, just behave and me or one of the other moderators won't have to penalize you.)

With that out of the way...

1. You are permitted to nominate up to 24 Pokemon (4 teams), but you are not required to use all of them. As this will be a 256 competitor tournament, this lets you nominate quite a bit.

After a certain point, I will let the RNG decide the remaining nominations or let you guys throw in more.

2. Pokemon that have been officially released are eligible for competition (everything up until Magearna). Marshadow has not been released, and Eternal Floette is also not eligible.

HOWEVER, the winners of the past 7 tournaments (Flygon, Rayquaza, Vaporeon, Torterra, Zigzagoon, Venusaur and Masquerain) are BARRED. For the purpose of the champion tournament that ~BS~ will host later, we have to let other 'mons get a chance.

3. Evolutionary lines will be treated as their own species, as will Pokemon with Alolan forms and/or have significant changes to their types/BST. Arceus does not count.

Specific instances of a Pokemon will be treated as the same one for the purpose of this tournament. This means all instances of Pokemon like Lucario and Pikachu will be simply treated as one count for both of them, respectively.

4. Pokemon can only be nominated once. If another member nominates the Pokemon you want, then you have to choose another one. That being said, you still have 750+ to choose from, and surely there's plenty you like from those.

5. You are allowed to change your nominations ONCE, and you must notify me when this happens.

(This applies to changing 'mons that are already on this list. Adding more to your nomination pool will not count as this)

6. All members must remain civil throughout the competition. This means no fighting with each other over what people voted for, and/or their opinions on particular competitors. You can say things about the Pokemon in question, but NOT about members who vote for them.

7. If you decide to post a written vote, you must write at least 15-20 words explaining your decision. I don't need to read essays on who you voted for, but at least write something substantial instead of shortposting.

Additionally, DO NOT shitpost in the tournament threads, nor start drama. ANYONE caught shitposting in this thread or the matches thereof will be severely penalized (including being barred from the tournament)

8. No using alternate accounts to vote for Pokemon. I will be running IP checks if accounts seem suspicious, and if you are caught doing so, your votes WILL be disregarded / you will be banned from voting for the remainder of the tournament, in addition to getting forum sanctions.

Also, do not influence other people to vote for a certain 'mon.

We want our nominations to win, but just play fair.

9. Have fun.

[spoiler=Match format]

Due to the number of competitors, this tournament will be conducted in straight elimination (you lose once, that's it). However, a loser bracket will be opened in the middle for a "second chance".

For the preliminaries (or any 4P format), you will be permitted to vote for 2 Pokemon. Everywhere else is the standard 1 vote. Whichever is the case will be announced at the start of each round.

Round 1 (Preliminary A) - 64 matches [4P] - 128 winners- 2 votes

Round 2 (Preliminary B) - 32 matches [4P] - 64 winners - 2 votes

Round 3 (Best of 64) - 32 matches [2P] - 32 winners - 1 vote

Round 4 (Best of 32) - 16 matches [2P] - 16 winners - 1 vote

Round 5 (Best of 16) - 8 matches [2P] - 8 winners - 1 vote

Round 6 (Quarterfinals) - 4 matches [2P] - 4 winners - 1 vote

Round 7 (Semifinals) - 2 matches [2P] - 2 winners - 1 vote

Round 8 (Finals) - 1 match [2P] - 1 winner - 1 vote

The format for the loser bracket will be 2P.

=====

For 4P matches, the top 2 will move on, and 2P, highest scoring moves on. However, if there are any ties for 2nd place OR if the match ended in a draw, then all Pokemon involved in the tie will move on.

Do not worry if your vote would result in a tie; just vote as you normally would. I do not believe in tossing a coin just to break ties. If it happens, then it just means that the 'mons in question have another shot to settle the score if need-be.

I will be voting in these initially.

If there are tied matches, the number of matches with added participants (3P/5P) will be determined algebraically (see GPT 2 for an explanation).

=====

Matches will be open for 48 hours after they are posted; all times will be listed in Hawaiʻi Standard Time (GMT/UTC -10:00). I don't observe daylight savings time, so it is your responsibility to convert the end times to whenever the competition ends in your respective area.

I would've loved to have done this earlier, but multiple linear algebra exams / rewrites and other stuff (mostly college related) came about and I couldn't get to it. But yeah, it's here now (though timing probably sucks, because it is nearing finals).

But yeah, I'll add your nominations to the list. I'll add 6 more of my own later (only put up 18 initially because I posted this before going to sleep).

====

Also a note that the logo for this one does have a Hawaiian/Polynesian tribal pattern (you can't really see it because Mega Lucario, but...).

I'm just gonna list stuff. If it is redundant with BS, ignore it, obviously.

1.) Golisopod

2.) Nihilego

3.) Roserade

4.) Toxapex

5.) Muk (if Alolan forms are considered distinct, I mean alolan)

6.) Steelix

7.) Garchomp

8.) Magnezone

9.) Lurantis

10.) Golurk

11.) Pidgeot

12.) Salazzle

Will probably add more/adjust count for redundancy later.

Yeah, I think Alolan forms should probably count as their own Pokemon and not lumped in with their Kanto forms. (Probably should adjust the rule to let separate forms of an individual 'mon from other generations be separate (if they have dramatic changes to their stats/typing); i.e. Giratina formes, Shaymin formes, etc.

For now, think you should be fine.

OP fixed; up to 52 'mons right now.

(Still need to think of what my last 6 'mons will be for this tournament. By now, most of the stuff I want in is standard ones I nominated in previous tournaments; not that I hate the region based on my home state, but a lot of the 'mons are kinda disappointing for me.)

Everything but Zigzagoon and Incineroar is good to go; if you read #2 under competition stuff, the past GPT winners are not permitted for this tournament (and Zigzagoon counts as such); that and British nominated Incineroar.

(This is also why I do not have Rayquaza in nomination list)

Up to 74 noms right now.

(Yeah, I was writing this and British posted the above already)

Yeah, I was caught out by that when I made my initial list (which had Flygon), but I made the appropriate change after reading the rules.

In all seriousness, I think doing so was a good idea anyway.

Changed accordingly, put in Rotom and Ludicolo instead.

Alright, that works.

Don't worry about it; that addition was new and not included in previous tournaments. Doing it because we don't need 'mons taking 2 victories in GPT (for the purposes of the Champion battle you wanted to do after this). After the champion tournament, you can renominate them.

(Otherwise, we would've had to take the runner-up from this tournament if we did let past winners in, and one of them won again)

Would that also make eternal floette it's own thing?

Yes, Eternal Floette does have different stats, but right now, it has not been officially released (or ever will be, least until the remakes or something), so it's not included.

Same reason why Marshadow isn't eligible; we only found out about it because people hacked the Sun/Moon demos (and Gamefreak forgot to erase the stuff that wasn't important to it).

Replace with umm....Escavalier please

Don't worry; the restriction is something that came up for this tournament, but not in previous ones over the past couple years.

Replacement made.

Also up to 168 'mons.

====

To be honest, I would've liked to have tried a double elimination format this time, but that would result in a lot more matches to go through [albeit it would give 'mons another chance to win it if they got a bad matchup early on]. So yeah, it'll be straight elimination as usual, but a loser bracket will be opened midway through the tournament, so some 'mons will get a second chance (if they can survive long enough).

If we did go through with this idea:

  • Regular brackets would go through
  • Loser brackets would take the winners from those matches (R2 - LL1), plus whomever lost in the regular rounds.
  • Overall winners from both would fight to determine the GPT8 champion.
