Lingering Wishes - A Community Project

So, I have a bad habit of leaving ideas unfinished for way too long, and when I hurry to finish them I wind up with something . . . less than desirable. This parallels a lot of Konami's weaker early archetypes, so I figured that I might as well take on a fun gimmick archetype, using my favorite mechanic in the game: Counters.

 

So, essentially, I looked at archetypes that used Counters that had a decent, interesting concept, but a lack of a clincher to bring them to absolute prominence- Venom, Cloudian, and Alien- and wondered why Counters seemed exclusive to monsters.

 

That's when I got thinking about another archetype from the GX era that was kinda-sorta-almost good: Crystal Beasts.

 

So, here's my challenge to YCM: I'll be adding a card here or there personally every week or so until we're looking pretty solid, but I'd like everyone who thinks they could to take a shot at designing for it, until we're good enough to take a trip to Advanced.

 

That said, here are the first five members of the archetype:

 

Lingering Wishes of a Young Child [Tojin]

WIND- Level 1 - Psychic/Effect - 0/0

When this card is Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 "Lingering Wishes" monster from your hand, Graveyard, or Spell/Trap zones, except "Lingering Wishes of a Young Child". During your opponent's Battle Phase, target 1 monster your opponent controls: place a number of Wish Counters on it equal to its Level, also it must attack this card this turn. Cannot be destroyed by battle. If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, place 1 Wish Counter on this card. During either player's turn, you can remove 3 Wish Counters from this card to target 1 monster on the field: it cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects this turn.

 

Lingering Wishes of a Loving Parent

WIND - Level 2 - Psychic/Effect - 400/400

Neither player takes damage from battles involving this monster. If this monster is destroyed by battle, distribute Wish Counters among face-up cards on the field equal to the combined Level of this monster and the opposing monster, then destroy the opposing monster, and if you do, inflict 100 damage to your opponent for every Wish Counter on cards you control. If this face-up card is destroyed, you can move this card to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone you control instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●When a "Lingering Wishes" monster is Normal Summoned, place 1 Wish Counter on all face-up cards on the field, then 2 additional Wish Counters on this card. Once per turn, you can target 1 other "Lingering Wishes" Continuous Spell Card you control: This card gains that card's effects as a Continuous Spell Card, until your next Draw Phase.

 

Lingering Wishes of a Hopeful Child

WIND - Level 3 - Psychic/Effect - 1000/1000

When this monster is Special Summoned, you can Special Summon any number of "Lingering Wishes" monsters that are currently being treated as Continuous Spell Cards, retaining all Wish Counters they had as Continuous Spell Cards. Once per turn, you can target 1 face-up card on the field: Place 1 Wish Counter on that target. If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Place 1 Wish Counter on this card during each of your Standby Phases. You can remove 2 Wish Counters from this card to target 1 Set card your opponent controls: Destroy that target.

 

Lingering Wishes of an Innocent Maiden

WIND - Level 4 - Psychic/Effect - 1200/1200

Once per turn, you can target 1 face-up card on the field: Place 1 Wish Counter on that target. Monsters your opponent controls with Wish Counters on them cannot attack. If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Place 1 Wish Counter on this card during each of your Standby Phases. Once per turn, you can remove 4 Wish Counters from this card to draw 1 card.

 

Lingering Wishes of a Helpless Victim

WIND - Level 5 - Psychic/Effect - 1900/1900

You can banish 1 WIND monster from your Graveyard to Special Summon this monster from your hand. When this monster is Normal or Special Summoned, you can activate 1 "Lingering Wishes" monster from your hand or Deck as a Continuous Spell Card. Once per turn, you can target 1 face-up card on the field: Place 2 Wish Counters on that target. If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Place 1 Wish Counter on this card during each of your Standby Phases. "Lingering Wishes" monsters you control gain 100 ATK for each Wish Counter on the field.

 

Lingering Wishes of a Fallen Soldier

WIND - Level 6 - Psychic/Effect - 2200/2200

Once per turn, you can distribute 3 Wish Counters among face-up cards on the field. If a card with Wish Counters on it would leave the field, you can move that card's Wish Counters to another face-up card on the field. If this monster battles your opponent's monster with Wish Counters on it, this monster gains 200 ATK until the end of the Damage Step for every Wish Counter on the opposing monster. If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Place 1 Wish Counter all face-up "Lingering Wishes" Spell Cards you control during each of your Standby Phases. Once per turn, if your opponent's monster attacks, you can negate that attack, and if you do, place 1 Wish Counter on the attacking monster.

 

Lingering Wishes of a Mighty Hunter

WIND - Level 7 - Psychic/Effect - 2500/2500

If your opponent Special Summons a monster(s), place 2 Wish Counters on that monster(s). You can remove 5 Wish Counters from anywhere on the field to return 1 card on the field or in your opponent's hand to its owner's Deck (a card in the hand is selected at random). If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Place 1 Wish Counter all face-up "Lingering Wishes" Spell Cards you control during each of your Standby Phases. You can remove 3 Wish Counters from this card to discard 1 card from your opponent's hand.

 

Lingering Wishes of a Vengeful Lover [Tojin]

WIND - Level 8 - Psychic/Effect - 2950/2950

When a face-up "Lingering Wishes" monster you control is destroyed, either by battle or by card effect, you can Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard. When this card is Special Summoned: Place a number of Wish Counters on this card equal to the number of face-up "Lingering Wishes" cards you control, and if you do, monsters your opponent controls lose 500 ATK for each Wish Counter on this card. Once per turn, during either player's turn, when your opponent activates a card effect, you can remove 5 Wish Counters from this card: make that effect become "Banish 1 monster you control." If this monster would be sent from a Monster Card Zone to the Graveyard, you can move it to an unoccupied Spell/Trap Card Zone instead, as a Continuous Spell Card. While this card is a Continuous Spell Card, it gains the following effects:

●Place 1 Wish Counter all face-up "Lingering Wishes" Spell Cards you control during each of your Standby Phases. The first time your opponent declares an attack during the Battle Phase, you can remove 3 Wish Counters from this card: send the attacking monster to the Graveyard.

 

Citadel of Lingering Wishes

Field Spell

During each End Phase, place 1 Wish Counter on all face-up cards on the field. Monsters your opponent controls lose 300 ATK and DEF for each Wish Counter on this card. You can remove a number of Wish Counters from anywhere on the field equal to the Level of a "Lingering Wishes" monster in your hand or Graveyard: Special Summon that monster.

 

Fontaine of Wishes [storyTeller, text fix by Draconus297]

Quick-Play Spell

You can only activate 1 "Fontaine of Wishes" per turn. Discard 1 card to select and activate 1 of the following effects:

●Add 1 "Lingering Wishes" monster from your Deck to your hand.

●Distribute 4 Wish Counters among face-up cards on the field, but you cannot place all of these Wish Counters on the same card.

 

Assembled Wishes

Normal Spell

Increase your Life Points by 300 for every Wish Counter on the field. During your End Phase, if this card is in your Graveyard, place 1 Wish Counter on all face-up cards on the field.

 

Collected Wishes

Normal Spell

Remove 4 Wish Counters from anywhere on the field: Draw 1 card. If that card is a "Lingering Wishes" monster, you can select and activate 1 of the following effects:

●Special Summon the drawn monster.

●Activate the drawn monster as a Continuous Spell Card.

During either player's turn, you can banish this card from your Graveyard to place 1 Wish Counter on all face-up cards on the field. You can only activate each effect of "Collected Wishes" once per turn.

 

Desperate Wish

Normal Trap

Special Summon 1 "Lingering Wishes" monster from your Graveyard, and if you do, place a number of Wish Counters on it equal to its Level. A monster Summoned by this effect cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects this turn, also all monsters that target the Summoned monster for an attack or effect this turn have Wish Counters placed on them equal to the number of Wish Counters on that monster. You can banish this card from your Graveyard and remove 5 Wish Counters from anywhere on the field to target 5 cards in either player's Graveyard: Shuffle those targets into the Deck, and if you do, draw 2 cards.

This deck is very good designed, the mechanic for get counters seem good, also the deck is pretty "sticky" having a low number of cards.

Also, my favorite is innocent maiden, cause 4 counters for one draw can be really usefull in late game, also child eff is the most important, cause can make you can use all effecticvity of the monsters.

You have my support, in this oddisey.

Also, i have an suggestion of an card:

 

Fontaine of Wishes

Quick Spell

You can only activate the effect of Fontaine of Wishes once per turn.

Discard one card, then add to your hand from your deck one Lingering Wishes monster card, OR distribute 4 Wishes counters on your side of the field, but they all cannot be on the same card.

 

Dunno, this searcher card can make this deck more "sticky", also can stop your opponent from summon new fresh monsters whithout counters and make they battle phases more easy for you
