Collective Consciousness - Railway support (Written)

An idea I had for giving the railway deck a new support card. A surprisingly powerful deck, it really only lacks in the consistency department; something I wanted to fix.

 

Collective Consciousness 

Normal Spell Card

If you control no monsters; activate one of the following effects. You cannot summon any monsters except EARTH monsters during the turn you activate this card

(1)Special summon 2 Level 10 EARTH Machine-type monsters with different names from your deck and/or graveyard. Immediately after this effect resolves, Xyz summon 1 Xyz Monster using those two monsters only, but your opponent takes no damage until the end phase.

(2)Banish this card from your graveyard; special summon 1 Level 10 EARTH Machine-Type monster from your graveyard, its effects are negated and is banished during the end phase.

You can only use 1 effect of "Collective Conscious" per turn, and only once that turn.

 

The idea is the use Night Express and Derricrane and make Dora with the first effect which will easily defend against whatever play your opponent might make; the downside being you can't inflict any damage nor summon non-EARTH monsters like Exodious or Jizukiru.

The second effect is to help consistency, allowing you to make a field even with a bricked hand or a tough opponent.

 

The EARTH restriction might seem lax at first, but it stops the two aforementioned cards and prevents you from bringing out the sin spiders, which will stop a field wipe.

 

Yes, the name is a reference to Metal Gear Rising Revengance. Konami game so it's a possible reference, but the idea of bringing out Dora repeatedly seems like something right out of that game.

What am I saying this is a great card. S'just...maybe restrict it a little more, savvy? I mean, no battle damage is fine, but I'm pretty sure Gustav Max and Skypalace Gangaridai won't give two flips. And there are some Decks that should not be afforded the privilege of a Super Dora on their field-or worse yet, Seven Sins through Ravenous Tarantula. 3 of this, a pair of Night Express Knights, and everybody's got a new Rank engine to abuse. 

 

So here's my suggestions for how to...limit this, how would you say.

 

 

  • Make it so it only activates when there are (EARTH?) or Machine-Type monsters only. Might still be abused, but mostly it'll be the Machines and most of their builds' Extra Deck space is limited.
  • Destroy the Summoned monster during the End Phase (may not work with Super Dora though, YMMV here,) 
  • Drop its ATK somewhat? (Again, may just be used as a brigdge to Seven Sins, but that's a different kettle of fish.
  • Skip the Battle Phase. (more moderate suggestion here, but Ruffian Railcar does the same and gets through its pain through damage, so SYNERGY!!!!!111)
  • Lock you into only bringing out Machines for the rest of the turn. (Definitely the better one here-in fact, this should probably apply to both effects' activation.)

Yeah, this card is unfair. Rewarding you with an instant Rank10 and a Train revival later on just for playing the archetype? Too much.

As BDS suggests, water down this card a bit and it may be fine. I would start by making it Summon 1 Level10 Machine from hand, and 1 from grave, so that you need a least some setup and your board clear of monsters to play it. And make the last effect add the monster to your hand instead of Summoning it.

A free Rank 10 of your choice (well, that only needs 2 Materials) is overkill. Maybe you could restrict the features of said Xyz Monster (make it so it has to be an EARTH Machine-type? a "Train"? Something like that).

 

The revival effect could use some restriction, too. First of all, you should probably limit it to just your graveyard and forget about your hand, or vise versa. Second, I suggest you make it so said effect can only be activated when you control no monsters or something along those lines to prevent overkill.

Rewrote the card to include a few new restrictions

 

- No attacking switched to no damage, to prevent burning your opponent with a cheap kill with Gustov Max

- Special summoning limited to EARTH monsters only, stopping the sin spiders from coming out, as well as preventing it from being generic.

-The second effect is now limited to just the graveyard. It also requires controlling no monsters as well and banishes the monster during the end phase (in the case of trying to wall behind it or a D Barrier coming out.)

 

And don't forget; Night express knight can't be summoned from the deck which is why the card allows summoning from the grave. In other words you need setup for this card to be activated at all.
