[intro Music]

“Gathered Friends, listen again to our legend, of the BIONICLE…”

Light would shine upon the stone circle and three pillars, while a gentle breeze blows the sand within the middle, revealing six pairs of rocks that where each broken in half, all aligned in a wide circle. At one end of the stone circle is Mata Nui’s totem, brightly illuminated from the sun and shimmering eyes.

“In the time before time, high above every single Matoran, the Red Star flashed into existence, uplifting all those that served the Great Spirit with eternal life, and knowledge.

The totem fires off a bolt of sunlight into the sky, Followed by the decent of a bright red orb that gently descends to a point above the centre of the rock circle. They begin to glow with a matching aura, flowing into orbit around the jewel. With a calm stream of energy, each of the six rocks are fused back into one.

“But the Makuta, who burned in its light, sent forth a terrible beast to dull it with darkness.”

Makuta’s large crystal crashes on the opposite edge from Mata Nui, sending a wave of sand around from him. Burning crimson and gurgling faint whispers, it fires a violent beam of crimson light at the jewel for several seconds, forming a large sphere of patchy shadow around it and the rocks. The rocks try to flow back down, to be repelled back by the shield and thrown into chaotic daisy orbits.

“No longer illuminated, we became helpless to prevent his betrayal.”

The skies darken and strong winds collide with the circle. Makuta’s crystal turns on Mata Nui’s totem, firing a similar stream of energy. Its eyes fade away, tumbling heavily into the sand with a thud. Crashes of thunder are heard in the background, while the strong winds blow away more sand and shape the outline of the island of Mata Nui.

“But as his shadows poisoned Mata Nui, neither he nor we did know that six rays of hope continued to shine upon the Star, to lead us back into the Light…”

Slowly a darkness creeps inwards from the outline of Mata Nui, while the crystal whispers grow stronger and louder. Before the darkness envelopes the entire shape, six dots of light pierce it and forcefully drive it backwards. The dots become beams breaking through the shadow shield, each from the six rocks, with the same orbit and each now one of the colours of the basic elemental forces. The red crystal they orbit, along with themselves, now begin to glow from within until blinding everything…

The Story So Far…

800 years since the Great Cataclysm, the Matoran of Mata Nui remain in constant danger from the Makuta’s corrupted Rahi. All the while the six Toa Canisters that contain the Toa Mata remain lost in the Great Sea, seemingly never to fulfil the Three Virtues.

High above all this this tragedy lies the Red Star, a space station dedicated to repair all of the deceased and damaged in the Matoran Universe, but trapped on it with no memory of their former lives. But bound by faith in the virtues, they have united to form their own little communities and culture across the varied biomes. It has been peaceful for some time, ever since the Toa Whetu ended the Kestora Crisis and became Turaga. Now unease returns to the village, following poor harvests and more hostile Rahi. Some Matoran also saying they have seen the local fauna wilting away.

As a noted individual of your village, either for good or ill, the Turaga has now summoned you with great urgency to the top of each Whetu’s respective Suva Spire.

[spoiler= Rules]
 Basic Rules

  • The Advanced Clause Must Be Followed.  I outline that below.
  • You will aim to maintain good to perfect grammar in any and all IC posts in this roleplay. Using Word or Google Docs should help with that, but feel free to ask here for help when needed.
  • If a player is found to be 'godmodding' or 'metagaming', report it to myself, or anyone I appoint as a Game Moderator.  From there we will review and decide what to do about it.
  • I expect you to make posts promptly and often.  Failure to participate will justify me to kick you from the roleplay. If you know you are going to dissapear, please inform me and we can work out somthing.
  • To add to the above, I reserve the right to have the final say on any major character development and I will exercise this right during the roleplay.  I will always inform a character's player beforehand, unless rules has been broken.

Advanced Clause And Further Expectations

This one often needs emphasising more, despite it being implemented years ago: As a participant in any YCM roleplay you are expected to follow both the site's rules and the advanced clause.The Advanced Clause breaks down into three simple points:

"a. All IC posts require at least 100 words, roughly 4 lines at standard formatting.

b. Posting in script format is forbidden.
c. Copy-pasting or “expying” characters without tailoring them to the new roleplay is forbidden."

[spoiler= Lore Codex]
The Lore Codex will list all new lore introduced in the RP, using the existing canon lore from the BIONICLE Wiki as a basis. As a aim, lore should be focused around the Toa Mata/Toa Nuva era, while some elements of the Toa Metru/Toa Hordika referenced, and anything else beyond those periods to be myth.

[spoiler=Matoran Dictionary]

  • Appolis – Roughly means “Prophesied Place” in an ancient dialect.
  • Mek – prefix meaning “Mechanical”.
  • Whetu – Biome. Derives from Wahi, often used instead of Koro by Matoran on the Red Star.

[spoiler=The Red Star]
The Red Star is a celestial body said to have been created by Mata Nui to shelter the Matoran. It is a giant ball of red energy, with a partial shell around it called "The Cradle", which has many diverse hexagonal biomes known as Whetu, connected at the corners by Skypaths.

Whetu
There are 9 recorded Whetu on the Red Star’s Cradle: hexagonal regions measuring approx. 45 Kio across, each with a different biome. Each one had a spire at the exact centre, reaching high above the atmosphere. Six of these where inhabited by Matoran of a matching element in a single village called a Koro.

  • Ta-Whetu: A hilly region pitted with hot springs and lava flows, dominated by Mount Tobduk. The Ta-Koro was carved into the mountain’s sides, scaling up to the lava pit at the top.
  • Ga-Whetu: A gigantic ocean, dotted with archipelago of small beach islands. Ga-Koro was built in the bays between one of these islands, floating on wooden rafts and giant lillypads. A ferry system allows travel to the skypaths.
  • Le-Whetu: An endless jungle, crisscrossed with rivers and waterfalls. Le-Koro is in the only clearing, building upwards along the sides of giant trees. Access is only possible by flying in on a Gukko bird.
  • Onu-Whetu: A harsh, mountainous wasteland that has no atmosphere on the surface, making life only possible underground. Onu-Koro is buried beneath it as a series of giant caverns, pumping air in from the Skypaths.
  • Po-Whetu: A large desert canyon, with a single river leading to the oasis of Po-Koro and their spire. Much of the path the river takes is carved out by the Matoran, either into statues or taken back to the village for crafting and building.
  • Ko-Whetu: A flat tundra, constantly battered by snowstorms and lightning. A chain of snow trenches lead to the Shelek Glacier, where Ko-Koro is carved out inside of it.

Other Biomes

  • Appolis: Described in legend as a lush valley that housed an ancient civilization built by Bo-Matoran, it had become a desolate swamp where the ancient city had crumbled and half-sunk into the ground. It was also crawling with Kestora until the end of the Crisis.
  • Ferris: A mysterious biome that cannot be accessed because of an energy barrier. Its borders are described as being tall canyons that had to be carved out by hand. Because of the name, some believed that Fe-Matoran live within it.
  • Kraahkan: Named after the infamous Mask of Shadows, Kraahkan is an endless crater filled with hostile Rahi and the remains of their prey. Only the Toa Whetu have entered it, so to push back the Kestora into the Kra Cavern.

Other Locations

  • Kra Cavern: A giant pit in Kraahkan that was a nest for the Kestora. In its heart was an entry point into Mek-Voya.
  • Mek-Voya: An endless labyrinth of mechanical engineering beneath all of the Cradle, containing the Matoran repair factories and the Nui-Kestoa. The Kestora live down there, repairing the machines and any broken Matoran. The Turaga believe they have only been in the highest layers of it.
  • Skypaths: Giant highways that connect all the Whetus at their corners. Some are broken, only leading to a perilous drop into the star itself.

[spoiler=Kestora]
mwkkLfr.jpg?1

The Kestora Hoard are a race of hive-minded, mechanical Rahi that live all across the Red Star, and for many years where a great threat to the Matoran. Kestora are simple creatures, driven by instinct and sharing one collective mind, known as the Nui-Kestora. They function as drones, traveling in small packs through the Mek-Voya labyrinths and tunnelling to the surface when required.

They are vital to the running of the Red Star, operating the Matoran repair shops and mataining the star’s mechanical systems: the former of which makes them a threat. Kestora harvest most materials for Matoran repairs on the surface: including other Matoran if they identify them to be less valuable then their current repair job.

During the Kestora Crisis, the hoard began an aggressive push into the Matoran inhabited Whetus, having to be repelled and sealed by the Toa Whetu back into Mek-Voya before they destroyed the villages: however they did kill the Turaga. The Toa later learned that the invasion was for a massive order of materials demanded by the Nui-Kestora, but did not know what for or where they had gone. The Toa later discovered Nui-Kestora and exhausted their Toa Power to reprogram the hoard, so they could not ever return to the surface. They could not however override their aggressive nature as it was part of their core programming.

According to Matoran Legend, the Kestora where created aeons ago on Valami, when Artakha cut a slice out of his brother Karzahni’s Kanohi Olisi. When Mata Nui returned to the island after separating the brothers, he found the Kestora had been born from the shard. He then took them elsewhere, though it was never defined if it was to the Red Star.

Personality wise they were mechanically cold, not having concepts of individuality, compassion and empathy: making them efficient killers. They were also morbidly curious of unfamiliar lifeforms, often dissecting them to understand how they worked and if they could harvest them for parts.

Kestora are relatively fast and sturdy, but clumsy and often would collide into each other when running. Depending on their current task, they would be equipped and fight with various tools, including wrenches, drills and blowtorches. Their hands were also capable of ripping a Matoran in half, and used them to burrow around if they did not have a drill.

[spoiler=Tales and Legends]
[spoiler= The Makuta Blinding]
“Many centuries ago, the Maktua feared and despised the light of the Red Star, and so sent up a terrible titan called Garrdus who crashed into the cradle and created the wasteland now known as Kraahkan. It then burrowed into the Heart of the Star, unleashing a terrible curse: No being upon the star could remember their past, nor return to where they had come from.”

The Matoran Legend ends with the Garrdus burning away in the star, while a variation carved at Appolis says that while scorched down to the skeleton, the Garrdus crawled out once the curse was lain and went to rest beneath the cradle, awaiting new orders from Makuta.

[spoiler=Spiteful Brothers]
“In the time before time, the Great Spirit descended from the Heavens onto the island of Valmai, verdant and teaming with life. However in his eyes he found absent of something: Imagination. So he drew from his very heart, giving birth to two siblings: Artakha and Karzahni. The brothers where inseparable, happily enjoying Valmai. Artakha would often play with rocks, staking them into neat piles on size and shape, while Karzahni swung amongst the vines and explored the ocean.

Mata Nui enjoyed their company, but realised that they lacked the imagination he desired for the world: enjoying nature instead of seizing it. With all his might, Mata Nui tore his own face off and crafted it into the Kanohi Hanga: The Legendary Mask of Creation.

In an instant the brothers wanted it, squabbling like they children they were, but Mata Nui had already decided that Artakha showed more potential and bestowed it upon him. Karzahni became jealous, demanding the Great Spirit make him one as well. Mata Nui could not, so retired back to the skies and renew himself. His brother showed compassion, drawing upon the Hanga and created the Kanohi Olisi: the Mask of Alternate Futures. However his pride and vanity had been imprinted upon the Olisi, and when Karzahni bore the mask onto him a thousand futures descended unto his mind: all of which showed Artakha’s glory from using the Mask of Creation.

No mind could ever take such a cruelty, and Karzanhi stuck first against Artakha with his claws, and so he struck back the same. Millennia would pass as they fought, using their imagination to evolve from fist to spear, then spear to sword, and sword to monster. Valmai became nothing more but a poisoned isle, populated by beasts of war and rumbling from bioquakes. In the final battle, Artakha took his spear and slashed deep into the Olisi, slicing a shard from it and tossed it away into the ground.

Feeling the pain inflicted upon Valmai, Mata Nui returned and wept at what his children had sown upon their paradise. Separating the two, each was stranded away at opposite ends of the universe so they could never fight again. He then came to each separately, giving them their duties: Artakha was to ensure such devastation never happened again, tasked to create tools that renew and defend the lands beyond his isle. Karzanhi was told to repent his destructive, selfish ways; tasked to repair those who broke down for all eternity.

Mata Nui returned to Valami one last time, realising that the Olisi shard had given birth to the Kestora and The Marendar. Seeing a glimmer of hope within them, he uplifted them with the Three Virtues. Marendar remained behind to guard the island, while the Great Spirit escorted the Kestora elsewhere…”

[spoiler= Character List]
[spoiler= Tamat
i]

Bu9YCam.png?1

Name: Tamati
Type: Le-Matoran
Gender Programming: Male
Kanohi: Powerless Matatu
Colours: Dark Green and Grey (No Fade)

Personality: Tamati is a rather ‘glass half-empty’ kind of matoran, known for pointing out the negatives in a situation through sarcasm and dry comments. However at heart he is kind-hearted thrill seeker, enjoying challenges against the odds. This made him irritable once he could no longer fly in the Gukko Force. Tamati demonstrates a close loyalty to Turaga Rauli in respect for rescuing him from the repair shop Kestora, and would rather be hurt then divulge any of the secrets that she had told him.

Biography: Tamati was discovered in one of the repair shops deep beneath Le-Whetu, dazed and confused as the Kestora restrained him to the production line for repair. About to be dismantled by the Kestora for spare parts as he woke up, Toa Rauli arrived and dismantled them instead. Rauli had arrived to investigate why Le-Whetu’s water supply had been poisoned, so had Tamati follow her for safety: the pair discovering the Kestora had shut down a pump for repair and invariantly directed toxins to the surface. Their appearance stirred the Kestora Hoards, so while Rauli fought them off, Tamati operated the pump controls and overloaded the piping system. The pair escaped using the power of Rauli’s Kanohi Kakama, stirring up a small hurricane with her speed to vacuumed up to the surface though the pipes.

Tamati joined the Le-Whetu village and became a part of the Gukko Force, raising a Gukko named Wakpao. Noted as their best night-time navigator, Tamati’s secret was to use the constellations as map instead of using the terrain.  Ultimately however during a patrol, a swarm of Nui Rama surprised him, killing Wakpao and sending Tamati plummeting deep into jungle. Landing heavily though the canopy, Tamati’s mechanical insides where exposed with a gash on the left side of his torso. He was rescued in the following morning, though the village healer could not repair his torso. The Gukko Force discharged him because of the wound, requiring him to become a weaver for some time.

When the Toa Whetu completed their destiny of stopping the Kestora from attacking the Matoran, the now Turaga Rauli became a mentor to Tamati, teaching him what they knew about the Red Star and how to operate the Spire Telescope. Eventually he was given the job of Astrologer by Turaga Rauli, trusted to keep a keen eye on a small island on the moon they orbited.

[spoiler=Turaga Rauli]

NnaTqhl.png?1

Name: Turaga Rauli
Type: Le-Turaga-Whetu
Gender Programming: Female
Kanohi: Noble Kakama
Colours: Turquoise & Dark Green.

Personality: As a Matoran and Toa, Rauli was an enthusiastic traveller and musician who could never stay still for long, often playing the Va-Flute. She was a little vain, being careful to not scuff her paintwork and disliked visiting Po-Whetu because of the dust. Always calm in a crisis, it was rare for Rauli to ever raise her voice even in combat.

As a Turaga, Rauli continued to be energetic, often leading ceremonies that included music and dance. However she became rather cautious, insisting that the Gukko Force carried rescue equipment at all times.  She became fond of the Le-Matoran Tamati, seeing a bit of her youthful self in him, and eventually made him her right-hand man.

Biography: Rauli came to the Red Star as a Le-Matoran, in the Le-Whetu Jungle without any memory of her former life. She was a traveling musician for most of her time, going as far as Po-Whetu. During this period she met one of the future Toa Whetu at their village. During the height of the Kestora Crisis she was summoned by the previous cycle of Turaga alongside five other Matoran: Each from a different tribe. They were burdened with a quest to go and rediscover the lost ruins of the Suva in Appolis, to find and return the Great Kanohi Mihini: A great mask said to have some power of the Kestora Hoards.

After a long and perilous trek, the group rediscovered the ruins of Appolis, only to find the Suva had been utterly destroyed and with no Kanohi attached. But while Rauli investigated the Suva, she found a mechanism buried in the rubble and pried it out using her wood axe: Six bolts of lightning shot forth from it, colliding with the team and transforming them into the Toa Whetu.

The team returned from their ‘Great Expedition”, learning that in their absence the Kestora Hoard where advancing on their villages, with the Turaga having sacrificed themselves to form a Turaga-Nui and prevent the majority of the hoard. Their intervention pushed them back to the Kra Cavern in Kraahkan, putting up a Toa Seal to prevent another mass assault. Toa Rauli continued to defend the Matoran for several months, going deeper with the Toa Whetu into Mek-Voya, saving Tamati, and learning the Kestora’s true purpose, and the Nui-Kestora: The mechanical hive-mind of the Kestora. They sacrificed their Toa Power to change its programming, so it commanded the hoards to retreat to Mek-Voya and never return to the surface.

Now Turaga, Rauli became the elder of the village of Le-Whetu, inheriting an archive of secrets her predecessor had withheld from the Matoran. Taking Tamati under her wing, she trusted him enough to share some of those secrets and teach him to use the Spire Telescope. She later tasked Tamati to keep an eye of the island of Mata Nui using the telescope.
