Unforeseen Response U
Sorcery {R}
Counter target spell.
Encrypt 1UU (As you cast an instant or sorcery spell, you may pay 1UU and exile this card from your graveyard. If you do, add this card's effects to that spell. Encrypt only once per spell.)

(As always, template credit to .Rai.)

This is a mechanic I think would go well in a set with scifi/cyberpunk undertones. Encrypt is basically "splice from your graveyard," except it's limited to one encryption per spell to avoid abuse. I imagine it being most prominent in blue and red, with secondary showings in black. Very much a subterfuge-filled, "hit 'em where they don't see it" sort of mechanic.

And yes, this is a more unusual way of showing off the mechanic. The card is worthless in your hand, but it tags along as a Cancel to any spell you cast in the future. But hey, if you have a Vedalken Orrery or the like out, this thing can really be a surprise. Hence the name.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Changed the name from Unexpected Response.

EDIT 2: Added another example of the mechanic with Brute Force Solution.
