The reason I would not be in favor of dislikes is because they could be abused easily. Somebody could just give you dislikes because they don't like you personally, and then you could do the same thing to them and then everyone is disliking each others' posts and it gets out of control.

 

We can pretend we're mature enough to handle it, but I don't think it's a matter of maturity or not. Neg reps are just as pointless as positive reps, but they leave a much worse taste in your mouth.

Already been mentioned before; negs aren't returning because members have proven to be immature about them and voting down people they didn't like. Let's not go into how bad this was in the old days with revenge negging, which required its own thread and Super Moderators to actually remove them (and any counterbalance + reps).

We already have people whining about the existence of positive reps. Negative repping would only add another layer to those issues, and as Sakura pointed out, people could just revenge rep, which is honestly the only reason I think people would bother with negative reps. There is no benefit to be had from reintroducing negative reps.
