Canadian Legalization of Marijuana

I've meant to post this sooner to when the legislature was announced, but never got around to it. Still, no time like the present.

So Canada is intending to legalize Marijuana nation-wide. Here are the deets: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/policing/justice/legalization-regulation-marijuana.html

Here are some quick facts of the legislature:

  • The federal minimal age of buying cannabis is 18 years old. Provinces can choose to make that age older if they please.
  • Selling Marijuana to a minor will be considered a criminal offense.
  • There will be restrictions to the packaging and advertising of cannabis so as to not have it appeal to minors.
  • Adults will be legal to carry and share (between other adults) up to 30 grams of marijuana.
  • It will be legal to purchase dry or fresh cannabis from provincially licensed retailers.
  • It will be legal to grow up to 4 cannabis plants (no taller than 1 meter) per residence for personal use.
  • The carry limit can be lowered per province, as can additional restrictions to personal plants be placed by provinces.
  • Provinces can place restrictions on where cannabis can be consumed in public spaces (like smoking).
  • It will be illegal to drive under the influence; roadside tests would be conducted with a saliva test.
  • Industry standards will be set (as can be found in the link).

If this legislature passes, Canada will become officially more dank than the US.

Do they have any projections on income for the country based on the changes to the sale of marijuana?  Also, any idea what the tax on it would look like?

I like that it's 18 or older at least.  The under the influence clause also pleases me.
