Galac-Sea [Written]

Galac-sea monsters are Light Fish and Aqua types who Link and Xyz Summon. Originally it was Fish, Aqua, and Sea Serpent, but for some reason I couldn't get much inspiration for Sea Serpents so I dropped them. Hopefully I didn't miss any references to Sea Serpents and forget to edit it out. The whole thing came out of the pun that the last syllable of Galaxy is phonetically identical to "sea", but thankfully Space is an Ocean is a common enough trope this kinda fits. Also I'm still getting to know Link terminology so corrections on Link Monsters would be especially welcome.

[spoiler=Creator Blurb on Each]

I figure that saying my intent and thoughts with each card would make it a bit easier to critique. Hopefully.

Star Angler is a simple card. Discard a monster, get a new one. Not limited to Galac-Sea monsters or really any way past Level 3 so things like Necro Gardna or any other useful level 3 can be used with it.

Comet Clam was made as an in archetype card specifically to work with Star Angler. Negates an attack and switches the monster to defense position, also only requires you control a Galac-Sea not for it to be the attack target which is something I guess.

Star Fish came from a dropped plan for Galac-Sea to utilize multiple levels of monsters. I kinda dropped that so it is all level 3 but this card remained. I figured any level modulation is a strong enough ability it needed a cost but not something too steep, so 300 LP for each Rank. This does give access to Treatoad which is something.

Fun Fact: Galactic Grouper was Galactic Seahorse for a while before I arbitrarily changed it for alliteration. If your opponent takes out one you get two more, though it is vulnerable to non destruction removal. Unsure if 2000 LP is too steep a cost for the resurrection effect or not.

Space Angel was created to help the archetype's recover ability. A standard "If you control X with different names" ability. Does not exclude other Space Angel and triggers on SSing so if you already have three Galac-Sea monsters in the grave you can summon Star Angler, discard one Space Angel to SS another, use that to revive the discarded Space Angel, then use that to get four monsters out of one summon.

When I reached Orbit Octopus (who was originally Orbit Otter) I realized I didn't have much direct Link support here. So I made it work off of Link Monsters and have an ability to shift them for extra Linked Zone shenanigans. It's also one of the monsters that works well if discarded by Star Angler.

Crushing Cancer is a bit underwhelming but I wasn't sure what else to do. It can Shark Sucker off of any LIGHT Xyz or Link monster, so there's that. My real goal there was something that supported monsters both Xyz and Link summoned with it. 600 ATK isn't amazing but the piercing should hopefully help.

Jellyfish Cluster is just kind of a random card. It reduces the number of Xyz Material or Link materials needed lower but not down to one. Helps speed up some stuff I guess, especially Space Whale below which is a four material Xyz.

Moonray Eel is the best main deck attacker in the archetype (all stats except Cancer, Eel, and Jellyfish Cluster were kinda decided arbitrarily). It also has a special summon if you control no monsters ability so it can get the ball rolling early game or if your field is blown up.

[spoiler=Extra Deck Monsters]

Galac-Sea Milky Way Otter

LIGHT

Rank 3

Aqua/Xyz/Effect

3 Level 3 Aqua- or Fish-Type monsters

While this card has an Xyz Material attached, it cannot be destroyed by your opponent's cards (by battle or card effect). During your Standby Phase: Detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Draw 1 card. Once while this card is on the field, if it is linked to at least two Link Monsters, you can activate this effect without detaching Xyz Material.

2400 ATK/2000 DEF

Galac-Sea Andromeda Space Whale

LIGHT

Rank 3

Fish/Xyz/Effect

4 level 3 monsters

When this card is Xyz Summoned: Change all other face-up monsters to face-up Defense Position. If exactly one monster is Normal or Special Summoned: You may detach 2 Xyz Material from this card; negate any effects that activate when that monster is Summoned, and if you do, gain control of it. Once while this card is on the field, if it is linked to at least two Link Monsters, you can activate this effect without detaching Xyz Material.

2600 ATK/2300 DEF

Galac-Sea Triangulum Sunfish

LIGHT

Rank 3

2 Level 3 "Galac-Sea" monsters

If you Link Summon a Link Monster: You can detach 1 Xyz Material attached from card; The Link Summoned monster gains 800 ATK and can attack an additional time each Battle Phase this turn. Once while this card is on the field, if it is linked to at least two Link Monsters, you can activate this effect without detaching Xyz Material.

1900 ATK/2500 DEF

Galac-Sea Orion Shark

LIGHT

Link Markers: Lower Left, Down, Lower Right

Fish/Link/Effect

Link 3- "Galac-sea" monsters - min. 2

If this card is Link Summoned: You can send up to 3 monster cards with different names from your deck to your Graveyard. This card and monsters linked to it gain ATK equal to 200x the number of LIGHT monsters in your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can detach 2 Xyz Materials from among Linked Xyz Monsters: Target 1 card on the field; destroy that target.

1800 ATK

Galac-Sea Lyra Leatherback

LIGHT

Link Markers: Left, Up

Aqua/Link/Effect

Link 2 - LIGHT monsters - min. 2

Linked monsters cannot be targeted by opponent's card effects. Once per turn: You can Special Summon 1 level 3 LIGHT monster from your hand or Graveyard to one of this card's Link Points. A monster Special Summoned by this effect cannot attack and cannot be used as material for a Link Summon.

2000 ATK

Galac-Sea Grand Dorado

LIGHT

Link Markers: Left, Right

Fish/Link/Effect

Link 2 - Aqua- or Fish-Type monsters - min. 2

Once per turn: If there is an Xyz Monster in a Link Spot, you may exchange it and this card's positions. This card cannot be targeted for attacks while it has linked monsters.

1900 ATK

[spoiler=Creator Blurb on Each]

The Xyz are named after galaxies. The Andromeda is biggest and Triangulum is smallest with Milky Way in the middle so I reflected that in the number of materials needed and ATK values.

I also decided to make the materials more generic as more are required so Triangulum is 2 of the archetype, Milky Way is 3 of the specific types, and Andromeda is four but fully generic.

I wasn't sure how I wanted to go with Otter at first but I figured otters are weasels so something sly and playful works. So as long as it has a material it can trickily dodge destruction, but it plays around and drops a material to draw a card every turn.

Space Whale I immediately new I wanted to give a gravity themes. So when it comes out it exerts massive gravity to change everything else to defense position. And it can use material to create a gravitational field to draw in a monster the opponent summons. At least that's the flavor behind its abilities.

Since Sunfish is the most specific to the archetype I also made it play up the connection to Link Monsters the most.

The ability to use its effect once if it is double linked was originally just for Whale but I put it on all three Xyz Monsters for theming and because it gave more uses.

Since they are such a new mechanic I'm not sure how balanced the Link Monsters are at all. While the Xyz are named after galaxies, the Links are named after constellations.

Orion Shark is a big bad hunter. It gets stronger the more "chum"-ie LIGHT monsters in the graveyard-there is and even whips its linked monsters into a frenzy to get the same boost. Just from summoning it you'll get from 600 to 1400 points to up to four monsters. It gives half of your field linked, but can't do anything much if it is outside of the Extra Deck Monster Zone besides be a beater. It can use its links to steal materials from your Xyz monsters for some destruction.

Lyra Leatherback and Grand Dorado split the attribute and type requirements for the arc with Leatherback needing LIGHT monsters and Dorado (or mahi mahi or dolphinfish, all the same but Dorado is the name of the actual constellation) needing Fish or Aqua types.

Leatherback grants protection to its links. It doesn't directly support Xyz monsters but does summon materials.

Dorado can move around to manipulate what it affects some. And it is somewhat protected as long as it has something linked to it.

[spoiler=Spells and Traps]

Galac-Sea Fisherman

Normal Spell

Discard 1 card; Add 1 "Galac-Sea" monster from your deck to your hand.

Galac-Seafood Special

Normal Spell

Excavate the top 4 cards of your deck, add up to 1 "Galac-Sea" card from among them to your hand, put 1 of the excavated cards into your Graveyard, then put the remaining cards on the bottom of your deck. You can only activate 1 "Galac-Seafood Special" per turn.

Galac-Sea Stardust Shrimp

Quickplay Spell

"Galac-Sea" monsters you control in Link Spots cannot be destroyed by battle this turn. Any damage you would take from battles involving those monsters this turn is reduced to 0. If you control a face-up "Galac-Sea" Xyz monster, you can attach this card to it as an Xyz Material instead of sending it to the Graveyard. You can only activate 1 "Galac-Sea Stardust Shrimp" per turn.

Galac-Sea Galactic Riptide

Continuous Spell

If you Xyz or Link Summon a monster: You can target monsters your opponent controls up to the number of "Galac-Sea" monsters used as Xyz or Link Material for that summon; change the battle positions of those targets.

Galac-Sea Great Meteor Belt Reef

Field Spell

The first time each turn you Xyz Summon a monster using a "Galac-Sea" monster as an Xyz Material: Draw 1 card. The first time each turn you Link Summon a monster using a "Galac-Sea" monster as a Link Material: Destroy 1 random card in your opponent's hand. When this card is destroyed by your opponent's card effect: Target 1 "Galac-Sea" Spell or Trap card in your Graveyard other than "Galac-Sea Great Meteor Belt Reef"; add that target to your hand.

Galac-Sea Black Hole Whirlpool

Normal Trap

When your opponent Special Summons a monster while you control a face-up "Galac-Sea" monster: Negate that Special Summon, and if you do, destroy that card. If that monster was Special Summoned in an Extra Monster Zone, also destroy all cards in the same column as it with the same controller.

[spoiler=Creator Blurb on Each]

Galac-Sea Fisherman is just a searcher.

Seafood Special is a kinda random card I made more for the name than the ability.

Stardust Shrimp is some battle protection and an extra Xyz Material.

Galactic Riptide is just some battle position manipulation for when you Xyz or Link Summon.

Great Meteor Belt Reef is a field spell, something nearly any archetype can use. Gives card draw or destruction with your extra deck summons and can recover other spells or traps if destroyed so it can get a variety of use, hopefully.

Galac-Sea Black Hole is honestly probably pretty bad with negating one special summon if you control members of a specific archetype. Hopefully the ability to hit up to three cards makes it better.
