(This probably has the record for longest period without a single vote in the modern era, but let's just end this with a vote of some sort)

Set A

I really don't know why you decided to support Atlanteans in this case, considering they're still doing fine with that hybrid version. At this point in time, you have literally given them more avenues to abuse their "trigger on discard effects". Yes, Seahorse is the generic WATER [well, for P-effects anyway] and the other one is strictly Atlantean, but still. Also giving them faster access to summon their key monsters.

Set B

Oh hi retrain of that vanilla from over a decade ago; let's see what you got.

Navy just powers up for every counter on it and does help with Xyz plays (well, would've if it let you use all of the counters on your board; not just ones on a monster). Given the current effect, you only get 1 counter on the monster and that's it. Then again, redistributing counters is a nice thing, but yeah, only 1 counter per monster, so...

Crimson at least gives them searching power, which is always helpful. (Although I'll need to ask if the creator of B was porting this from MtG or another game that uses "creatures" instead of monsters, because that's a mistake right there). Piercing isn't anything special, but guess it helps and all. Just like with Navy, unless you can mass Pendulum Summon, not going to have a lot of counters to trigger off of.

====

With that being said, I have to vote card C.

  • A is literally "give Atlanteans more toys to play with in their hybrid build" (though yes, it does extend to other viable WATERs in general)
  • B is fine, but doesn't trigger how the creator intended for them, based on current wording.

First some general comentary.

Set A.

Good searching. ATK boosts that actually do something. Draws. Protection. Works well with the architype. Maybe a bit too versatile. The deck doesn't have pendulums so they might be hard to get out.

Set B.

I... What do they do? Honest question. The first card can make rank ones... that's it.

The second card can pierce. And it says it can search. But when will you have 3 Ocean Counters on something?

How often will you get 2 of these out? like. Seriously?

With that in mind. I'll vote A.

If anyone has a problem with my vote I'll take it back myself seeing as I haven't played Atlanteans myself. Only seen them be played. Also. I might have just misunderstood set B. But they sound very bad to me.

In the case of B, given the wording, not very often (and there exist no Rank 1 Sea Serpents). I want to assume that they planned on it placing a counter for every Sea Serpent that got P-Summoned and/or already exists on the field; that would've seen more use. But it's 1-per-monster, so not going to help much. Chances of it happening are very slim.

Set A works, but in doing so, makes Atlanteans already enough of a pain to deal with (especially the hybrid versions, and said version gets a new toy in CIBR, though released after this 1v1 went up).

As a meta sheep. I have to say that dealing with Atlanteans (even if they had these cards) is not really a problem... Cards being meta doesn't make them boring. In fact, I find "Atlanteans" one of the least frustrating decks to face. I stand by my vote as I think Atlantean players would have a lot of fun with these cards but wouldn't frustrate the opponent seeing as they don't lock you out of anything and are pretty easy to out.
