Targantuan Tiger

Counter Trap

 

You can either active this card during your Main Phase OR when your opponent activate his/her Monster effect or Pendulum effect. You can apply 1 or both of these effects. If you activate both of this effects, it be resolve in sequence.
● Negate the activation.
● Special Summon this card as Effect Monster (Beast-Type/EARTH/Level 4/ATK 1900/DEF 0). (This card is NOT treated as a Trap card)
if this card is Summoned: Send 1 card from your hand or the top of your Deck. and if you sent "Targantuan" card this way, Draw 2 cards.

Targantuan Marshplane

Field Spell

 

During your Draw Phase; instead conducting your Normal Draw: you can add this card and 2 "Targantuan" card other than "Targantuan Marshplane" from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand. you can only active this effect of "Targantuan Marshplane" Once per Duel.  Once per turn you can send 1 Trap Card from your hand or field to the Graveyard, that is listed on a Fusion Monster that can be Special Summoned with "Targantuan" card (if that card is Set, reveal it) and pay 1000 LP, then Special Summon that Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck. "Targantuan" Fusion Monster Special Summoned this way cannot be targeted by opponent card effect until your next 2nd Standby Phase.

 

 

for those who wonder what theme these cards represent. this card is based on ancient mammal whose its fossil is found at La Brea Tar Pits ( https://en.wikipedia...a_Brea_Tar_Pits ) hence the name Targantuan ( Tar of Tar Pits + "Gargantuan" means large) with Traps and Fusion is a pair of Modern Mammals and its Ancient-Mega Fauna ancestors

 

and yes this archetype is basically Counter Trap card version of Burgesstoma paleozoic name is suck translator . but despite being inspired from Burgesstoma their nature as Counter Trap making their playstyle rather akin to Psy-Frame. the main gimmick of these guys is to counter opponent plays and then increase the field presence accordingly. additionally the fusion will give additional effect upon any negation you conduct using the Counter Trap

I guess I can take a shot at reviewing. Here is my review for the traps, ill try to post a review for the others later.

 

Targantuan Tiger:

Lets start with the first effect, the fact that it can negate either a monster effect or pendulum activation seems a little OP, maybe just monster effects would be good. I mean there's nothing that really balances the first effect, maybe you have to ditch another Targantuan card, idk. As for the second effect, the ability to draw cards isn't readily available to a lot of archetypes so this effect can come in handy, the overall stats seem good to me as well.

 

Targantuan Bear:

Again, the fact that it can negate effects and traps seems OP, Bear's monster effect however is a little weak to me. There are a lot of monster with this effect that don't restrict themselves to monsters within its own archetype. maybe just limit the fusions to FIRE or Beat-Type monsters for added versatility with the meta.

 

Targantuan Sloth:

Sloth's monster effect is a little redundant to me. I get that its purpose is to get the fusions out quicker but having 2 monsters with a poly effect is probably unnecessary with how easy it is to get a poly. since sloth is more of a defensive monster maybe he should get an effect that amplifies that part of him like Battle protection for Targantuan monsters.

 

 

Targantuan Wolf:

Honestly i really like the fact that he spawns tokens, especially if you included an effect for them that they can be used for the fusion summon of a Targantuan monster. that effect would certainly help get more and more of the fusions on the board.

 

Overall i think that the Archetype is a great idea the effects are good but could be toned down or reworked a little bit but i would play them.

most of your point is actually a nice suggestion. especially with Bear

 

gonna consider limiting the negation on effects only rather the activation

 

psst...Wolf's token already usable as Fusion Mat. (hint: naming)

 

kinda disagree (well partially agree with defensive effect) with Sloth though. Sloth (and in extension Marshplane) is meant as gimmicky route for summoning fusion (ala fang of critias) ...which gonna repay you with better effects.
