[Dragon/Synchro/Effect]

1 Elemental HERO Neos + 1 Warrior-Type Tuner monster

While this card is on the field, the Field Spell Card “Neo Space” cannot be targeted by Spell/Trap or Monster Card effects. This card can be substituted as any 1 Fusion Material Monster for the Fusion Summon of a Monster that lists “Elemental HERO Neos” as one of the other Fusion Material Monsters. If summoned successfully, any “Elemental HERO” monsters you summon next turn cannot be destroyed by their own effects until the end of the following turn.

Deciding on which/what card to make first upon my return was difficult. I wanted to do my favorite card “Neo the Magic Swordsman”, but that failed. So, I thought about a new Blue-Eyes monster (hence the new theme) a cheap “Master of Dragon Soldier” remake featuring Dark Paladin/Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, but that still wasn’t right. So, I finally decided on Neo-Space Dragon, it’s easy, had more potential, original, and more fun to work on.

(Sorry this took me so long and now its Monday, I promised at least one card per week, but last week was hectic, working with dad on the job, going out on the boat all afternoon twice; you know, things beyond my control. Also, sorry about the ridiculous image size)

[spoiler=Card Art Process]

DRAGON ART PROCESS

First of all, finding the image I used for the original one I made was difficult to find, after searching all over the net, I found the right “Bahamut” image to use. But one of the hardest parts was making the Bahamut art. First I had to crop out every last bit of white background, which was time consuming. Then I had to get the right tint of blue, to get close to the blue color of the original card art. Once all of that was over with, I decided to match the red part of the dragon to the corresponding red parts of “Elemental HERO Neos”, since this monster was supposed to be an upgraded draconic version of Neos; even going as far as making the chest orb blue like Neos’s. Then I matched the right color/transparent outer glow to the dragon to match the original one. Once the dragon art was completed, it was time for the fun part, image overlays!

I’ve already had several predownloaded universe wallpapers to use, so I used a rainbow nebula wallpaper on its wings, hence the “Neo Space” aspect of the dragon. Then (naturally) I added a metallic holofoil to the golden halo, and added a crystal-zooming holofoil to the chest orb.

(BTW: The process was actually a lot more time consuming then I’ve explained it here)

  CARD ART/EFFECT PROCESS

Deciding on what to do with the card art itself (not the picture) was actually more difficult than the dragon-art itself! First of all, finding the right premade card templates that were of a decent size and quality, was nearly impossible. I started one, but gave up on it. So, I searched the net for some decent templates. Finally, after so long, I found one! Credit to “Standing on the Sun” http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/238263-hd-cards-over-1000-downloads-thank-you/, although the file was a bit unorganized, after a bit of fiddling, text substitution, and the right grouping, I managed to get a good card template file for all forms of Yu-Gi-Oh cards (excluding trap/spell/pendulum monsters, but that’s not of immediate concern).

Anyways, as I planned originally, I had the dragon floating outside the artboard square so it was floating in front of the card (kind of like “Pokémon LV.X” cards art). It was difficult trying to get most of the wing art in the picture (I originally planned the card to be sideways like a “Pokémon legend” card, that didn’t work out to well). I added some extra shadowing to the dragon so the overcrowdedness of the card art wouldn’t obscure the center point, the dragon of course. Once that was done with, I decided to be a little original, and added an overlay image to the white part of the synchro card, a transparent copy of the original “Neo Space” card art to give it that spatial effect. Naturally, I had an original background art to place in the background of the art box, a blue galaxy, but ended up using that for the card border, and the art box border. Instead, I noticed that the background art for most Neo-Spacian/Elemental HERO monsters was some sort of zooming space art, so I used a spatial blue wormhole wallpaper for the art box background (also placed a transparent version of it in the background of the description box).

Now for the text. One of the reasons I believe that this card originally didn’t win the contest is because I didn’t pay too much attention to the effects, the original effect rendered it pointless and not useful for an Elemental HERO deck. So, after some research, I based its effect to be utilized with the Neo-Spacian/Elemental HERO drawbacks, being destroyed at the end of the turn without Neo Space on the field, So I made its effect to prevent Neo Space from being destroyed easily. And since these monsters rely heavily on fusion-summon, I utilized its effect to be substituted for a fusion material monster (for Elemental HERO Neos of course, otherwise it would be too OP). And the third effect was to prevent your Elemental HERO monsters from being destroyed until (if you’re lucky) you draw a “Neo Space” card in the next two turns. I think this was just enough effects to make it useful, but not completely overpowered. The stars were 11 since most warrior-type tuner monsters were 3 stars.

Oh wow! 070 Beautiful. The dragon really stand out, embracing the other card features (especially claws on the wings, super super cool). The only thing that seems slightly out of place is the black shade on right wing; such contrast was not used anywhere else and really doesn't incorporate well with the picture.

Still, super job >w<
