Question. If your opponent has a monster linked to it, can you tribute that monster for Decode Talker's effect?

 

No, you can only Tribute a monster that you control that's linked to it. (Think this was an earlier question when these got released in OCG).

I'm a bit iffy on the wording they're using to denote where linked zones are (I think the Organization's translations are more concise), but yeah. Also lack of "-Type" after, and the Link requirements on Decode. Suppose it'll just be something we have to get used to, but I think the material requirements shouldn't be abbreviated (doesn't take that long to write "or more")

It shouldn't be confusing about the removal of "-type". If it's part of the card's name, it's in quotations. "Dragon" monster vs Dragon monster.

 

I am confused when looking at the Link Materials, though. "2>"? That means...2 or more, right? That's...not inherently obvious just by looking at it. With Synchro and Xyz, you DID have to know the basic of the Summoning method (Sum of Levels = Synchro Level, all Xyz Material must be same Level). I know Links can use other Links to reduce the Material count, but 2> confuses me regardless, until I remember that the number of Tributes must add up to the Link Number.

 

And even then, 2> is not inherently obvious what it means.

Hm, so they really are going with Cyberse, I hoped that they just made a mistake on the database before. Interesting that they are changing up how to word cards again, I figured they would do it a little bit, but not to this extend. It may be a bit odd when it comes to Warrior, since that's already an Archetype, and Cyberse a little bit as well, since Cyber is an Archetype, though that's pretty niche anyway, so probably not a big deal. The Quick Effect, I think it's bad that they aren't trying to make it clear that Quick Effect means during either player's turn, I know that they are doing it to save space, but they probably should be more careful.

it kinda weird me out at first that it says GY now. at that time im thinking that GY is not that easy to be decoded as Graveyard abbreviation versus like LP which is easier since it also can be correlated with HP in gaming mind set. but its not that crazy of changes. and any text shortening is welcomed

 

losing a type wording for Monster-Type actually nice. which can help to distinguish the effect that work on card type vs the monster type. and i don't think it will affect much with the often mentioned naming problems like Cyberse is a non-machine Cyber monster since they already separate them with " " to begin with

 

yeah the ">" symbols is not that clear. it should be using synchro wording. beside it already has its own spacing so it matter even less

 

i have a (stupid) question though with the new quick effect wording: if the said quick effect is can only be activated opponent turn will it placed as a condition before or it will omit the (quick effect) keyword for "during your opponent turn:"

Yeah, I too appreciate the removal of "-Type" in card texts.

I have mixed feelings towards the other keywords and simplifications; on one hand, it gives more card text space, but on the other, I guess it makes more difficult for new players getting into the game to understand the card texts now that they have to know the keywords; understanding concepts like field, graveyard, quick effect, etc. was already tricky, now add to it that they are in keyword form in card texts. Then again, "graveyard" is practically a word players have to know and understand what it is, anyway.

It is a little awkward to be honest. 

 

Decode Talker:

2+ Effect Monsters
Gains 500 ATK for each monster it points to. When your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a card(s) you control (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 monster you control that this card Links to; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.
 
^That's what I would have personally gone for. Why would they not include the part where Decode Talker cannot Tribute the opponent's Linked monster?
Also, 2 > sounds like "2 more than", and if for some reason they decide to ever make a card that's "2<" it won't be something anybody will spot easily.
 
"Links" vs "Points" is debatable... but I think it'd make the mechanic's flavor easier to get, and I can just wonder how they'll officially word "mutual link".

The absence of "-Type" is alright, though even as it was it could sometimes become hard to identify. For example, my brother for a little bit thought Brave Eyes used a Pendulum that was a Dragon as the material, until I told him it was a "Pendulum Dragon" named monster. Or long ago a friend asked me about the card "Ancient Gear" vs the archetype "Ancient Gear" when addressing..... Though whatever, those confusions were already there anyways xD

Forgot to address GY.
Weird choice. People mostly just say "Grave" for simplicity already so that should have been fine.
Guess it's not a huge deal. It is addressed often enough that we'll have plenty of chances to get used to it.
 
While at it, I think "Once per turn" to something like "OPT" would have been much more urgent than getting rid of the Graveyard word, but what do I know?

the saving grace is that we don't have anything confirmed until the set really drops. As Org said, this isn't exactly final yet.
