Greetings. My name is Merciful Idiot. I used to be an avid roleplayer, and a rather active participant on this site as well. By now, I've dwindled away, consumed by all kinds of silly real life duties~

But god do I love character creation. Just, being able to flesh out different characters excites me. Defying conventions. Providing all sorts of quirks. Solidifying their backstories...

Most of you probably don't know me, but if you do, it'll probably be for being the owner of that overly massive thing called the Grand Crossover RP. As well as a way for me to conclude the loooonnnggg story of my own dimension-hopping Mary Sues, I originally devised it as a method for people to find joy in reusing their old characters, within a serious character-driven plot. It's always such a shame to have to part from a character you like, and to my incredible delight, many others felt the same way. That's pretty much the only reason the GCRP has lasted this long. I'll talk about it, and its characters, in more detail once it has finally concluded.

Now then.

If you passersby do not mind, I would like to use this thread as a compendium for my past characters, who brought joy to my own 'lil heart.

I'll be talking about my particular favourites, as well as ones that stand out in memory, once I get to them~

Having been roleplaying since 2009-2010 on this site, there's quite a few I could be covering, but I'll start slow and begin to cover them as I go along. ^^

Amaya Mikinami

araRIU2.jpg

Ludum de Morte, by Giga

September 2014

[spoiler=Application]

Name: Amaya Mikinami (handle name - real name unknown)

Age: 14

Gender: Female

[spoiler=Appearance:]

2qlboz6.jpg

Note: The surgical mask hides a wide scar that stretches from below her left ear all the way through her cheek.

Weight: 98 LBS

Height: 5'4"

Personality:

The first immediate impression of her is that Amaya is cold, calculating, and untrusting about anyone due to the chance that they might be an enemy. However, rather than cold, it's more like she's desperate and constantly frightened of things, having to constantly prepare herself for running away when there's even a slight chance of danger. In other words, a certain desperation to get back to her life prior to the manor, and extreme paranoia about everything around her.

However, once someone is able to get past that barrier, she'll more likely than not end up trusting them fully, under any circumstances. What she wants most in the world is comfort, and for all her paranoia, she's actually quite innocent, childlike in terms of knowledge and mindset. While this is mostly a good thing, it could also turn out to later become a flaw that could be exploited by anyone heartless enough to betray her trust.

She does not truly want to kill anyone, but is willing enough to try if it means that she'll survive a little longer. As for how it'll affect her afterwards, she's trying her best not to think about that.

[spoiler=History:]

The earliest thing she could remember was the moment when she realized that she was...all alone. Cut off from any sort of help or mercy, unguarded against the horrors and the cruelty of reality, left only to fend for herself. Perhaps she'd accidentally gotten separated from her parents while they were going out, perhaps they'd abandoned her out of spite and thrown her to the streets, or perhaps, perhaps it was her who ran away from them for whatever the reason. Of course, needless to say, she never really had the time to think about it - that time was spent occupied with her survival.

Each day was a death trap, and she did whatever she could to live on a little longer. Begging for money, pickpocketing, stealing from stores, and more often than not the only thing she had to eat for nourishment were small candies. Not only that, but there were strange, dangerous people out there who seemed to want to try and take her away, so she found herself running away from them each and every time. This was a danger that persisted even when she tried to sleep, so she had to pick the most remote locations and still be ready to jump up and escape at a moment's notice. While she would periodically encounter other homeless people with tents and actual stable shelters, the possibility of leaving herself vulnerable to unknown men while she slept was not one she let allow.

As a whole, the wo was nothing but utterly merciless to this little girl on the streets, living all on her own, but through some miracle, she was barely able to manage and scrape by. How many years did she spend in that perpetual existence, not even knowing her own name?

Eventually, however, that would end. It was snowing heavily, and she was extremely weak. Suffering from hypothermia, starving, and with not a single person to help her, there was little doubt that she was going to die. Frailly forcing herself to walk in the middle of the night, disorientated and without any particular destination in mind, the place that would ultimately act as her sanctuary was one she had never once considered before.

...A maid internet/gaming cafe, open 24/7.

Imagine the surprise of the workers there when she just randomly stumbled in through the revolving doors, at midnight, dying. What they thought, how they reacted in response to it, it can't even begin to be described. All that should be known was that they helped her recover and later learned of her circumstances, before allowing her to live there - though, as a requirement, she would have to work there too for as long as she stayed. Something she gladly accepted.

Thus, she was given the name Amaya Mikinami and spent the last few years living like this, learning things she never thought necessary and being able to actually hang out and do things without the constant fear of death. It got to the point that she was beginning to turn into a sort of public attraction what with her cold, mysterious, and yet oddly determined demeanor, along with how her identity was virtually unknown, with customers starting to come just to see the famous Amaya.

With the salary that she was slowly building up and the friends that she was making, it seemed for a time that Amaya may have had a chance to build a normal life.

But that is all in the past.

Now in an utterly unknown large manor, being told to kill a random stranger, it appears as though that she will have to forget all about these recent events and revert to her old skills of survival in order to make it through the coming storm.

Skills/Abilities: Amaya's most relevant skills come from her experience living homeless for many years, which involve important things such as planning escape routes to run away at a moment's notice, improvisation of shelters, hiding spots, and wepaons. eating whatever's edible, quietly moving about, and of course pickpocketing and stealing things without others noticing.

As a maid, she's also learned to cook as well as talk to others to an extent, though she still has a lot of trouble acting out the 'cute maid persona'.

Other: Despite seemingly having the advantage in terms of survival capabilities, it is very possible to get the upper hand and take her off-guard. Plus, the way she always singles herself out practically makes her a target that's bound to attract attention from others.

Homeless girl turned cute meido, basically~

I believe Giga approached me on Skype, convincing me to join his roleplay? It had a really cool concept that could be boiled down to 'would you kill to save yourself?', so I was completely on-board with it. Seven characters would be assigned a target to kill amongst each other, whilst not knowing the name of the other. It sounded so lovely, though a lack of engagement in the story proper made it dwindle out pretty quickly, ah.

I spent ages thinking up an application for Ludum de Morte. I originally aimed to just make a homeless girl, someone who'd know how to survive and wield a knife while be fairly interesting to write about. But while looking online, I came across images similar to the one I used above. There was quite a few of them - about a guy who's done a popular cosplay of Sakuya Izayoi with a mask - and the whole maid outfit pretty much inspired me to incorporate the maid cafe side of it. Somehow, that combination between homelessness and maid cafe genuinely resonated with me. Like, "oh my god, this is such a cute character! Don't you just wanna give her a hug?!".

Also, while I sometimes fail with names, I feel like the name 'Amaya Mikinami' really clicks well with her as a character. Amaya meaning 'night rain' and Mikinami being the name of a Japanese battleship. May sound a bit weird, but if I had to name a creation whose name I was most satisfied with, it would be Amaya Mikinami.

I didn't get much of an opportunity to show off her human side in the roleplay proper, as her survival instincts were firing at max. Although, even when she hasn't seen use outside of that RP, I've actually based an entire otome plot document around her just because. Would love to get around to that sometime in the future...

As a whole, I just find Amaya really lovely, having been fond of her to this day~

As someone playing a maid in a different RP I have an obligation to comment, if you don't mind it:

I totally understand wanting to make this character. Sakuya with a face mask looking all meek and defenseless is super cute. And then make her homeless and the moe is unreal.

That said personality is fairly standard. It's probably more than good enough when you actually play her but it's not too interesting to read. Her history is more interesting, it feels like there's two different settings mixed into her. One is her barely scraping by to live, in a society that's harsh and unfair. Then she stumbles into the maid cafe and the genre of her story up to that point changes. If this was still in the same city it feels a little inconsistent as-is but it's backstory so that's kind of fine? Although, it is the modern age(since it's an internet cafe) and it's just kinda weird they didn't turn her over to the police or something. This part I wouldn't mind having more text to elaborate on even though usually I prefer short bios. Either way, her finding peace in that cafe but then being pulled away from that daily life and having to kill to live again is an interesting development that incorporates the RP's setting into her story.

On a weebier note I don't really like her name. It sounds much too grandiose for a homeless mysterious internet cafe maid killer. Mikimiya I can believe one of the maids/workers there was really into anime and named her after another anime character that had Japanese warship names for last names but Amaya sounds weird. A quick google search shows some people have it as their last names(with different kanji, usually involving heaven rather than rain as the 'ama' part). Maya sounds more homely and likely as a name someone'd give to someone without one, for example. And if you wanted to keep night and rain as the kanji for her name (perhaps they named her after the weather when she arrived, after all), 'Yau' would be an actual word with those two, and 'Yosame' would be another possible reading although neither are used as names but I like the homely sound 'Yosame' gives. Maybe I'm giving too much attention to such a minor detail though.

Yeeessssssssssssssssss~~~

It isn't a surprise to hear about the personality aspect, as Amaya's one of my most down-to-earth characters, and I wanted to start this compendium off with a straightforward character~ Although, personality-wise, I prioritize fleshing out characters in the RP proper as opposed to trying to define everything about them in the application - characters tend to be fluid, changing too quickly when you're actually roleplaying as them, ya'know? With few exceptions, I try to keep personality to one paragraph, two at most - while I pour much of my effort into their backstory.

I personally wouldn't say the city part is inconsistent - maid cafe or not, all cities have dynamic, complicated populations - but I do see what you mean with the maid cafe aspect. In the otome document I detailed on her, I wrote a heck of a lot about the maid cafe, including its owner, the various workers and particularly events surrounding her entry. It's weird for sure, but eh, people do weird things. I certainly see where you're coming from of course, and fleshing out the decisions of the workers in the biography proper would certainly help to understand how things came to be. If nothing else, it'd make for a cool, heartwarming side story~

Nah, I wouldn't see the name as minor. It's a crucial aspect as to how you perceive that character, at least if you ask me. Of course, this isn't her original name, so justifying the grandioseness is easy - I do feel like she would adopt a name maximizing her cuteness/coolness factor as a maid, and how would a homeless, uneducated girl know any better? Pfft~

Yosame seems like an alright name, but lacks that feminine tinge to it? I do agree with you on the homeliness of 'Maya' though, and honestly would be fine with dropping the A. So... 'Maya Mikimiya' I could probably get around. Captures the spirit of the original name. And, gotta love 'em alliterations. So yeah, thanks for the feedback! :D

I kind of half agree with this approach myself actually, although for me, either the personality or the backstory is sufficient enough. I'm kind of not a fan of how YCM's RP rules kinda force you to properly write out both a biography and a personality section when a lot of times only one of them is sufficient enough to allow hosts to understand what kind of character they're dealing with, while still allowing enough room for flexibility and growth. I don't dislike this character's personality, I just sorta wish it wasn't written out that much in the first place since the biography more or less conveys enough imo.

As for the city part, they are complicated but only if they're given actual screentime to be developed. Here it's a tidbit paragraph in an RP character's backstory and judging by the RP's concept I'm not sure it was ever going to be relevant in-text. If I had the choice I would've combined personality/biography into a single section and spend barely a paragraph on that first half, and then write out even more of the bio than was what was already there. It sounds like I'm nitpicking and it is nitpicking, but I just don't like the structure I guess.

I'll also say that the gap between an innocent, perhaps childish-sounding, very non-feminine name like Yosame and her actual character actually makes it cuter but at this point it feels like I'm just pushing whatever I like onto homeless sakuya now.

Ahaha, that is rather true, Sasa. I personally feel like Personality and Biography should remain separate for the sake of simplicity, but I totally get where you're coming from. My talk about the city came mostly from the development document I wrote much afterwards; in the RP, at the time, it would've been a mere side note.

I won't lie that the application could've been much more structured. When I write an application, the biography acts as my top priority. From there, the personality becomes a section I simply need to fill in without making it seem half-assed, the extra detail there primarily to give it more flair. Besides, I treat the personality section much more flexibly IC-wise than I do the biography sections, so I don't think too much of it.

And not to worry. Whatever she's called, homeless Sakuya is the best <3

In any case~

Both of the following characters come from the same RP. I'm only just finding this out now, but apparently I started work on them on my 17th birthday (must've been uneventful), and finished them in the midst of a heavy fever...

While I'd hesitate to name either of these my favourites per se, they're nice examples of what my creations were normally like.

Sir Taylor Everest

"Ahh, it's hard to get what you want, isn't it~?"

「Emote」 by Giga
May 2015

[spoiler=Application: The Amazing Noble Knight of the False Sea]

Name: Sir Taylor Everest

Age: 17

Emotion: Longing

Place of Birth: Towcester, England (stowed away onto Roughs Tower, Sealand, for about a day)

[spoiler=Appearance:]
2uqof1i.jpg

Apart from the piercings, there's also a dragon tattoo on the back, and chain-shaped tattoos along the arms.

[spoiler=Biography:]

Once upon a time, there was a boy and a girl.

Their parents were neighbours, so the two of them used to play together all the time, sometimes even having to sneak out to do so. At first they were wary of the other, but they soon came to bond together. Most of the time, since they had a lot of free time on their hands, they would play pretend. The boy would be a knight who fought away monsters, and the girl would be a princess who needed to be protected. Once, the girl was tired of being a princess and wanted to be a knight, so the boy let her. It turned out to be pretty fun.

Of course, there was no way those peaceful, innocent times they spent would last forever, as the boy had to move far away due to his parents' job. Saddened by this, the girl made a childhood promise with him - that someday, they would meet again. At the time, it didn't occur to either of them that something might happen in the future. Really, they were but two silly kids unaware of the cruelties of the world, so who could blame them?

They stayed in contact for some years, their parents helping them write letters to each other. The girl always longed for the letters from him, but more importantly, for the time that she would see him again. Patiently, she counted away the days, even knowing that she would have to wait a good long while. She resolved to study hard so that she'd be worthy of him when the time came.

However, after some time, the letters stopped coming.

Once over three months had passed without a response, she had wanted to ask why, but then her parents told her to stop sending more letters, saying that she was too young to understand. The girl was both confused and saddened by this, and while she bore it at first, it soon became such that she had to know. Hence, she set out, wrote a letter and sent it on her own, without their knowledge. Every day afterwards, she would check the mailbox before her parents, waiting for a reply...and at last one came. And yet, it wasn't from the boy, but from his father.

The paper itself was in pretty bad condition, and in it, he had tried his best to explain what happened in simple terms - a drunk man had been driving in the middle of the night, and crashed into both his wife and child. The former, fatally injured to the point that she was currently in a hospital. The latter, killed instantly.

In other words, the reunion that she'd been waiting for would never happen, because he, the boy, had 'died'. For the ten-year-old Taylor, this was just too much for her to take.

Suddenly, she wasn't about to stand being around her friends, her grades began falling, and during the crucial time of puberty, well, her mind became quite a mess as she became uncertain about what she wanted to do or where she wanted her life to go. Both her direction and her determination, every dream she'd ever had of the future, all of it seemed so impossible now. She had always been waiting to meet that boy again, impress him, maybe even marry him, and move on from there, but like this...what would she possibly do now?

After being a total mess for quite a while, she decided that she was going to try out different things, and seek out the kind of things she wanted most. Wishing to be more special than anyone else, over the next several years she would dedicate her life to doing 'different' things, to accomplish things and make herself stand out more.

The kind of fashion she was wearing became more radical, and she would involve herself with groups of people she'd never even dared approach before, though somehow, her mind remained innocent throughout it all.

In one notable incident, at the age of 12 Taylor spent all her savings to buy a knighthood from Sealand to make herself seem more 'special', before proceeding to stow away all the way to Harwich, Essex, then taking a boat out to HM Fort Roughs, in an effort to reach the supposed micronation of Sealand, hilariously misunderstanding what exactly her knighthood meant. While she succeeded at first, in her moment of triumph she was promptly caught, kicked out and sent back home. Even so, she got to keep the knighthood, so it was all fine in the end.

Still, for her, the biggest leap was when the girl decided to become a boy. Maybe it was on an impulse, or maybe it was out of a subconscious desire to replace her childhood friend, maybe she simply enjoyed wearing male fashion, but for sure, she took extra lengths to make herself a boy. Hence, she cut her hair short, set out to master the art of crossdressing, and over a period of years developed a convincing enough persona to fool many.

...

Her antics were not without consequences, for she alienated practically all her old friends and put her parents under a lot of stress, and even for herself, the emptiness that she'd felt since her childhood friend had first lost was still there. It seemed that despite her attempts to move onwards, she was only destroying her own life, culminating when her parents started blaming each other for how she'd been raised, fighting for days without end before finally ending in a divorce.

Piece by piece, her life fell apart, everything she'd ever done backfiring on her, and she soon came to long for another life. If she could, she would turn time back to when she was still a kid and do things differently, or if not, then she would at least want to go someplace completely different, where no one knew her and she could start over from the beginning.

When Taylor discovered her Emoter abilities, fairly recently, she wasn't sure what to make of it. Common sense was telling her to hide it, that it would only make her life even worse.

But, after doing more research into her own powers, how people like her were called 'Emoters', and so on, she begun to realize that there may be a chance, however small, of actually being able to start over just like she wanted...

[spoiler=Personality:]

Taylor has a bit of a playful, somewhat flirtatious exterior, and a lot of the time she goes out of her way to make herself act like a playboy, making advances towards other girls whenever she feels like it. Of course, she's never actually serious about those kind of things, and things tend to end up a little awkward whenever they respond in kind. Whenever her real gender is outed, she tends to be a little annoyed about it. Overall, she has a rather casual, if boastful attitude, having a habit of making inappropriate jokes even in the face of danger, making up random things about herself on the spot, and just being a plain ol' whimsical shopaholic who can't resist trying to get things she takes an interest in.

Although, she also tends to be serious a lot. She dislikes being alone, and at various times, she'll find herself reminiscing about the past. In her mind, none of her efforts actually mean anything, and if she gets too attached to something, then it's destined to be lost. The only thing she can do is wait for it to come to her, whatever this 'it' is. While she keeps these feelings suppressed, under some circumstances, she can be triggered to go into a panicking, crazed fit. Such as when the life of someone she cares about is in danger, or when she's outright abandoned by others.

In truth, it could be said that all her efforts are merely attempts to fulfil the void that's been in her heart since she was a kid. The longing for a childhood friend whom had lost and would never come back again. And with it, she longs for all the other things that she'll never have.

[spoiler=Abilities:]

Lost ~ For Most Of This Life: A form of presence detection that works by singling out the sound of human heartbeats, making Taylor aware of their positions and overall shape, as well as notifying her of their heartbeat rhythm. However, the further away they are, the harder it is to detect and identify them, and varying factors like environment can also interfere.

Seize The Day ~ Regretting The Times I Lost: Creates long, strong metal chains around Taylor which can be controlled remotely and utilized in various ways. Most commonly, she will launch them towards her opponent, usually to wrap around and trap them. The chains themselves cannot see, but they home in on the heartbeat of their opponent. The more she desires to catch her opponent, the faster and denser the chains will be, but if her motivation is weak, then chances are they'd be soft enough for even a human to break through.

So Far Away ~ Will You Stay Away Forever?: Allows Taylor to move about at high speeds by forming chain-like bracelets around her wrists and ankles, then shooting herself forth. Can also be used on other people to move and throw them about.

Dear God ~ Because I'm Missing You Again: If Taylor is to concentrate extremely hard on her Longing, she can generate a number of metal golems to act out her will, representing what she longs for most - normally in the form of a person, but hypothetically could be something else. These golems are both highly dense and unusually quick, and depending on the intensity of her feelings, they might even be able to combine to create a much more massive mega-golem. Even so, it takes up all of her concentration and energy to maintain each of them, and it lasts around five to ten minutes depending on how many she makes and how much she pushes herself.

Gender: Female

Miscellaneous:
>Favourite Colour: Gold

>Main Theme Song: Want To Be Close ~Persona 3 Reincarnation~

>Battle Theme Song: Mass Destruction ~Persona 3~ (Lotus Juice Remix)

>To an extent, Taylor dislikes using her Emoter powers due to the fact that hers relies on the emotion of Longing, which in truth she would much rather suppress. Perhaps due to this suppression, relying on her Emoter powers might lead her to do unpredictable things.

>Is also trained in the arts of swordsmanship, carrying around a sheathed, medium-length blade around inside her backpack.

>Used up all her savings to get to Seattle, so she currently has nowhere to stay.

>Adjusts and lowers her voice most of the time to make her masculinity more apparent, but when she's panicked, she may accidentally slip back into her original, girlish voice.

Taylor's one of those characters who could've easily turned out a mess due to the lack of direction, as well as the constant changes. Made for another one of Giga's RPs with an interesting concept (this one X-Men-esque, with people who possessing emotion-based powers, seeking a safehouse), the original emotion I intended for him was taken. In fact, the sheer amount of taken emotions and variety of powers was making it more and more difficult to be original, to the point that one if not a few users had to drop out due to the inability to be original.

Since nationality was a factor, I spent much of the initial planning focusing on the idea of making a 'Citizen from Sealand' (BECAUSE SEALAND IS BEAUTIFUL). I'm not sure where most of Taylor's quirks came from to be honest. I was building up the backstory that would drive him to develop an obsession with Sealand, to the point of escaping his home, but somewhere along the lines, Sealand turned into a mere footnote when it no longer fitted into the narrative.

For those who took the application at face value, reading it from start to finish, his backstory ended up written as a plot twist.

Ultimately, Taylor turned out rather compact; a lovely drag king whose persona derives from inner torment~ I remember spending an awfully long time searching for an appropriate picture for Taylor, as it had to be someone who was both masculine and feminine, as well as fun. He strikes me as one of those hot girly guys you'll typically see on Tumblr or Instagram, so I ultimately looked for fanart of such users and came across the current picture, just about capturing my impression of the character.

There isn't much to say about either the name or the powers, since both came from off the top of my head, linking to the theme of 'Longing'. The most notable thing I like about Taylor is his backstory; a simple twist on the classic childhood friends cliche.  This is faaar from the first character I've made who plays with gender, and there'll be a few more to come who approach it differently, seriously one could say.

Taylor is one of those characters who would start off as the clown, being involved in humorous if not outright awkward situations with the others, but this could've quickly taken a dark turn as the RP progressed.

[spoiler=Biography:]

When he was a baby, mere months old, he'd been abandoned on the steps of a church at night.

It didn't need to be said why, whether it was due to financial reasons, whether his mother had been too young for it, whether the pregnancy itself was unprecedented, whether he was simply perceived as an ugly baby and that the nine months spent carrying him around had turned out to be a waste... The reason itself was irrelevant, and even if he were to find out, it wouldn't change anything. After all, the fact was that he had been abandoned by his parents, left either to rot and die, or to be found and raised in the hands of those unrelated to him by blood.

Then, when morning came, he was found by the various members of the church. At first they were panicking and weren't sure what to do with him, since they'd all become accustomed to their own daily, uninterrupted lives, but one of the members, a slightly odd but diligent young woman who worked there as a , saw an opportunity and volunteered to look after him. It must've been surprising to the others, since it was really out of character for her, but they ultimately came to allow it under the impression that she wanted to act out the will of God.

It must be made clear at this point that the mother who had chosen to adopt him had been suffering from a kind of mental disorder which magnified the attention to uncleanliness in each of her five senses, which naturally drove her to seek Jesus Christ, believing that this was a result of humanity falling into sin. Not once did she realize that she was the only one whose senses acted this way, and she became determined to cleanse away . Day after day, she sought to become more perfect than anyone else and cleanse away all the inadequacies, working hard in her own twisted manner. Thus, her motivation for adopting the baby was simple - to 'save it from the world'.

She raised him in a strict, clean environment, not even once letting him out of the house or play with anything, and whenever he made a mess, she would go absolutely hysterical. Food, sleep, cleaning, and education were the sole things that dictated his life, and she made sure to pass on her beliefs about the world to him as well. But of course, there was no way that an individual like that could last on her own for long. What with her sanity slipping and her health worsening, even after all her supposed attempts to remain as healthy as possible, she ultimately ended up suffering from a stroke.

The day after this had happened, the Kid was removed from his home at the age of five, and his twisted mistreatment soon came to be evident, the woman's mental illness being immediately brought to light post-mortem. At his age, he was a genius and diligent in ways that other kids his age never were, paying close attention to detail and making sure to keep his surroundings clean. It was quite apparent that his mentality was twisted, and the things that had been drilled into his head drove him to speak out to everyone near him, in efforts to save them just like he himself had been saved by his mother. The clearest sign of his twistedness was the act that he didn't even seem saddened by her death at the time, since, to him, it was her own fault for straying from the norm of how a parent should be.

Although he was a hardworker, his attitude frustrated those around him who had trouble taking care of him over the next few years, his social skills being too impaired for any kind of school, and his behaviour making him too dangerous to put near other children except in a controlled environment. He never ceased to make observations about unimportant things, and everyone around him appeared so disgusting and repulsive to him.

Even so, it was thought that he might be useful since not only was he a hard worker but he also possessed a great determination to achieve the things he wanted to. Shortly after it became evident that he wasn't ready for foster parents, he was instead raised in a controlled environment by a team of people who'd rotate and change with each other every few weeks.

Slowly but surely, the Kid's distorted mind seemed to fade away as he grew up, and his position gradually moved to a more passive one as he began to learn more and more about the world, realizing that since reality would never compensate to adjust for him, the only thing he was able to do was adjust to reality. Being raised in New York City, the city that never slept, must've affected him greatly. He also became more tolerant of other people, and on the outside, it would appear as though he was finally beginning to take steps to be a more normal person.

However, that wasn't actually the case.

The truth was that he'd merely become conscious of the futility of his insignificant efforts, compared to the immenseness of the world as well as the sinful attitudes of mankind. His own childish opinions, handed down by a delusional mother, were becoming disillusioned, yet at the same time they were far too ingrained to be let go of. Thus, his only choice was to find ways to compensate for reality's flaws. Therefore, he decided that since he couldn't save all the people who looked so hopeless in his eyes, he would push them away and live in his own little world. The place he lived, the people he met, and the places he needed to go for necessities, he calculated it all and set out to keep it as maintained as possible.

As if triggered by this, the Kid started to discover that he had a kind of...supernatural power of his own. An irregularity. It was here that his dreams of such a life faded away. At first he panicked and thought it was an imperfection, and indeed the perfect life that he had established for himself began to crumble. Suddenly, the stable future that he had envisioned for himself collapsed into dust, and the people who had once tolerated or even admired him for his age were now shunning him in fear, believing him to be a child of the devil or something. At the same time, he was moved to some facility, the people who looked after him switching to unfamiliar, specialized individuals who sought only to study them. In the mirror, he saw himself as a disgusting individual, and that only served to increase his powers even more.

But over time he learned that this may actually be useful, and came to accept himself. He'd always been disgusted with the world, and when he learned that humanity was beyond saving, he had nearly lost his purpose. And yet, as though refusing to give in to the cycle of disgust, he escaped from the facility in which he was decided to seek out the only hope of stability in the world.

The Church of Salvation, where those with similar powers awaited him. The people there were bound to be flawed and disgusting, even more so than the 'normals' that he had become accustomed to, but perhaps he could find something there of meaning.

And somewhere, deep inside his mind... a new, rather childish emotion began to rise. One that was neither disgust towards humanity nor aspiration to save it, but the petty desire to punish all those whom rejected him.

[spoiler=Personality:]

The Kid has an exceedingly clear image of what the world around him ought to be like. People with questionable interests, or preferences, or relations, are all to some extent unacceptable. Adultery, incest, and homosexuality most notably are as unforgivable as murder. In this modern world where everyone is intelligent enough to think for themselves and has the capability to learn whatever they wish, they should work their hardest to contribute to their nation and worship the One True Lord, whilst keeping themselves in standard shape as well.

'Every human must be, or at least try to be perfect' is his line of thought. 'Social standards set by humans themselves should be faithfully obeyed by humans without question'.

However, the very fact that there are an innumerable people stemming from the norm in some way or other disgusts him to no end. Apart from his own room, there is no one place in the entire world that he can be perfectly content with, so it's easy to imagine just how frustrated he is. To begin with, a mindset like this is ridiculously twisted for a mere ten-year-old boy. He has unusually high intelligence as well, able to rationalize and discuss matters with great detail, but he's so stubborn that even now, he's finding it difficult to reconcile his beliefs with that of reality, even after being repulsed by humanity in more ways than one.

And yet, despite all these beliefs, ever since he'd discovered his powers and society rejected him for it, he's begun to think about things that had never occurred to him before. An unknown feeling welling up within him, to oppose normality and determine the truth.

Along with this, he's started to hone a strange, rather unknown fascination with individuals that he considers so far gone that there's no point in expressing disgust towards them anymore. As in, feeling so much disgust for someone that it actually somehow transforms into curiosity towards these lost souls...

[spoiler=Abilities:]

÷ The Law of the Clear ÷: A passive ability in the form of a soft barrier that's constantly around his body, which he has no control over. Anything foreign that is not 'The Kid' which comes into contact with his body will be immediately repulsed or, if not possible, at least blocked out. If dust were to fall into his eyes, they will be repelled by an invisible force, and if poison were to be injected into his body, then it will be expelled back outwards the same way. While things with a decent amount of force like a punch can't be stopped, any sensation that results due to them (such as pain or pleasure) will be involuntarily blocked out from his mind.

- The Law of the White -: The Kid expands and strengthens his barrier, emitting a magnetic field from his body that repels all who attempt to approach. Within this field, he is also capable of generating pure-white geometric shapes called Erasers that can be controlled to move about. They can either be used for defensive purposes, to defend him against any oncoming attacks, or to ram into others, primarily those who disgust him to some extent.

+ The Law of the Black +: When the Kid's emotion of Disgust rises high enough, he becomes capable of dissolving his white Erasers into a black substance he likes to call Paint. It embodies the level of Disgust that he is feeling at the time, and anyone who sees or comes into contact with it may be revolted at its disgustingness, depending on how strong they are mentally. It is capable of materializing as either a liquid, which also happens to possess acidic properties, or releasing his magnetic field to disperse it through the air as a gas, the effectiveness of which depending on the size of the room.

x The Law of the Void x: The culmination of the Kid's emotion, and his ultimate move. Should his Disgust reach its pinnacle and he has given up entirely on any chance of salvation, he will iron his resolve to make one last attempt against the world. He does this by absorbing all the Paint into himself, eroding his consciousness and bodily functions and converting his body into a ticking time bomb. The process takes one minute all in all, at which point he'll explode and incinerate the whole area around him.

Miscellaneous:
>Favourite colour: Either 'transparent' or white, although black is acceptable, and metallic colours are tolerable.

>Carries around a Swiss army knife with him at all times, and is also very well capable of using his small size to his advantage should anyone come near to him.

>Has a strong Christian faith, but doesn't actually believe in the vast majority of the Bible, thinking that they're merely symbolic.

>Looks down on most other Emoters, not telling them his name purely because he thinks they're impure and disgusting.

>He's both highly intelligent and distorted to the point of sociopathy, but in the end he's still just a kid.

>Random trivia: While Disgust is indeed an emotion, its origins do not come from expression (like joy and sadness), but from reaction (like fear and surprise), and this one in particular in explicitly linked to the presence of death, whereas fear and surprise only suggest it. Potential hazards for humans can be found everywhere in nature, and it becomes necessary to avoid them. For example, rotting food, bodily fluids, animals (including parasites and insects) and signs of infection can all be hazardous to a human, hence why they bring about a reaction of disgust.

Ah yes, The Kid. It was obvious from the very start what appearance he would have, that being a kid version of Fate/stay night's dark priest Kotomine Kirei.

If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I enjoy creating arrogant douchebag antagonists. And that I enjoy creating superpowered, twisted children. The Kid is the natural culmination of both of my favourite character types.

A distorted childhood led to a simple, entertainingly dark personality. He's basically an angsty child with a warped ideology. A victim of the world with no concept of good and evil and OCD severely installed into him, only just beginning to develop complex emotions. His innocence lets him be an unusually powerful Emoter without the need for years of training, and I believed that withholding giving him a name would single him out as a 'yeah, you need to really watch out for this one'. It dehumanizes him, making him sound more akin to a walking tragedy as opposed to an actual young boy.

In the RP proper, his youth could've led to some rather interesting scenarios. Could he be taught proper morals? Couldn't he be easily manipulated? Is it right to kill a kid? And of course, who knows what puberty would do to that head of his, how would he react to crushes?

His moveset isn't particularly complex, but I spent a lot of time developing it since I needed to work a barrier-related ability into Disgust for the sake of the story. I like what I came up with - that he would start off with barriers protecting him from the repulsiveness of the outside world, then progress onto inflicting disgust, and finally resort to exploding himself in a rush of childlike frustration.

...

Again, neither Taylor nor the Kid are my favourite characters per se, and I didn't get much opportunity to utilize either much in the Emote RP. Even so, I like what I came up for them, and feel that I was able to convey the 'emotion theme' in both rather well.

  • 2 weeks later...

Fwiw, Amaya is a legit name. Means "rainy night" (雨夜).

Just to make sure this post doesn't become spam I might as well reply to this too. I am nowhere near qualified enough so I hesitate to actually voice anymore than what I already have but, everywhere I looked up 雨夜 the reading's either あまよ(Amayo) or つや(Tsuya). Whereas looking up just あまや to see what Kanji goes with it as a name I've pointed out above in an earlier post.

I would like either an actual example of someone named 雨夜 that's read as Amaya, or a name site that lists it, the latter of which is not exactly reliable but since I've also only looked up that name on google I can't beg for more validity than that.
