Remember that Spell that was Semi-Limited 2 days ago in the OCG?

Metaverse
Trap Normal
(1) Take 1 Field Spell Card from your Deck, and either add it to your hand or activate it.

ah OCG replacement for their lost Terraforming....definitely slow but tad bit flexible on what you can do with the field spell (well more like on activation shenanigans of it)

Well...I didn't see this coming.

It's nice that it can either add a Palace to your hand or just activate it immediately, so you don't feel like you're rushed by the deadline.

Is there any field spells that would really appreciate being activated as Quick though?

Field Spells that search but you can only activate 1 per turn, such as: Oracle of Zefra or the ABC Field Spell. Alternatively; floodgate field spells such as Summon Breaker or Necrovalley. The benefit of this is that you don't require needing to run multiple copies of these field spells to make it work, and if they have a card like Twin Twisters, you can chain this to that, like a bait.

Hm, Tramids will like for sure. It does allow you to boost your monsters with the boost a lot of Field Spell Cards give, and as said, makes the OPT clauses on them not matter as much for searching and what not. This card is also pretty good MST bait and is easily Chainable for various purposes. Allowing to add to the hand can also be useful for an extra card to discard.

searcher field spells wouldnt be the optimal aplication for this card, if using it in respone to something the field activation effect itself will miss timing though

Secret Village of Spellcasters?

Zombie World?

Black Garden?

The meme plays are real.

But really, suddenly bringing in a field spell out of nowhere, especially floodgate ones, sounds like it could be amusing. Though this makes good bait, it also gives the field spell you already control more life since you can simply toss in another one if your opponent tries to destroy the field instead.

In other news, Demise of the Land has been pretty much officially outcrept thanks to this.

Oracle of Zefra has a mandatory search. It wouldn't miss timing.

Also, you're not really correct in saying it's not the optimal application. The floodgate usage is a decent use, though I would hardly say it's the most optimal, because it depends entirely on what you have or what you got that makes it optimal. The floodgate/disruption use is strong, though you have to be careful because there's only so many one-of's you can run in the maindeck to make that work. But, you can't ignore the ability to double down on OPT activations for additional searches. The game doesn't always end after your opening setup, and you shouldn't be so quick to discount what you can do with a card.

You don't get to add a monster with Oracle if you activate it with this card.

BRING BACK CHICKEN GAME

I remember doing something like that back on Duel Portal. (Before I put the Field Spell-activating effect on a Normal Trap that was more or less identical to Metaverse sans being generic.)

"When this card is activated" effects aren't triggered. They don't "miss timing".

Oracle of Zefra has a mandatory search. It wouldn't miss timing.

Both Oracle's and Hangar's effects that add a monster are mandatory to activate, but that's not why they don't "miss timing". That's something that commonly refers to things only triggered effects do.

Why? It activates the card, there shouldn't be a reason why it wouldn't.

When would the effect activate? The card is activated in the same Chain Link as Metaverse resolving.

You generally can't activate cards or effects while a Chain is resolving, so there's no reason to make assumptions about this interaction before looking to its rulings, which say Oracle doesn't apply its effect in this case.

I would have figured activating it would create a new Chain Link entirely.

I too would have assumed the effect would activate in a new chain. Is this a case of BKSS ruling or is it consistent with the rulings on "When this card is activated:" clauses?

Anyway, card may be slower than Terraforming, but it has funny applications. You could be pro and search Domain of Monarchs with it to play it as if it was an pseudo-Vanity Emptiness.

It doesn't activate in a new Chain because it never does that and wouldn't have a reason to do it now. When you activate Oracle/Hangar, its effect that adds a monster activates in the same Chain Link as it being activated. What doesn't happen is Oracle/Hangar resolving, then its "When this card is activated" effect activating in a new Chain, so that wouldn't suddenly happen now.

Generally, when you activate a Field Spell, you activate an effect that normally does nothing. A "When this card is activated" effect is that same kind of effect, except it does something.

Ah, that makes sense. If it activated in a new chain then it would be like activating the Field Spell again, and of course that's not a thing.

So, a bit off-topic but to clarify and for potential card-making purposes, I guess that if the effect had the clause seen on Macro Cosmos, "When this card resolves:", instead, then it would effectively apply when the Field Spell is activated by Demise of Land/Metaverse?

Macro just has old text and works similarly to Oracle/Hangar. Its "When this card resolves" effect is activated in the same Chain Link as itself being activated.

Hangar is a "When: You can" effect, while Oracle is a "When: Add". If Union Hangar was an "If: You can" it wouldn't miss timing in all circumstances, but a "When: You can" will miss timing if the field spell's activation isn't the last thing to occur in the chain's resolution. But yeah, Union Hangar's search is optional why Oracle of Zefra's search is mandatory. Mandatory effects don't miss timing, as you said.

As Azuriena has been saying, nothing to do with missing the timing. You simply can't apply an on-activation effect when you activate a Field Spell like that. Not even if it's mandatory.

If you activate “Ancient Forest” with the effect of “Demise of the Land” it will not change Defense Position monsters to face-up Attack Position.

When you activate Oracle/Hangar, you must activate its "When this card is activated" effect in the same Chain Link as it being activated regardless of whether or not the effect says "you can". That "you can" in Hangar refers to the choice you make when the effect resolves; it doesn't mean that the effect's optional to activate. A player who activates Hangar can't choose to not activate its "When this card is activated" effect in the same Chain Link as it being activated so that Ash Blossom's effect can't be Chained to Hangar; they must activate the effect, and only when it resolves do they choose whether or not to add a monster.

From how they're written, "When this card is activated" effects may look like triggered effects, but they aren't. When you activate Oracle/Hangar, its "When this card is activated" effect doesn't Chain to Oracle/Hangar as Chain Link 2, nor does it activate in a new Chain after Oracle/Hanger resolves like a triggered effect would. Instead, it activates in the same Chain Link as Oracle/Hangar being activated. If you have no Zefra monsters in your Deck, you can't activate Oracle. When you wish to negate Oracle/Hangar's monster-adding effect with Ash Blossom's effect, you Chain it to Oracle/Hangar itself (thereby also Chaining it to the effect).

I explained in an earlier post that "Generally, when you activate a Field Spell, you [must] activate an effect that normally does nothing. A 'When this card is activated' effect is that same kind of effect, except it does something."

There's no "if" equivalent to this kind of effect like there is for "when" triggered effects.

well, to get some of the gimmicky ones out the way: the magnet field spell would actually be pretty nice in combination with this card during the battle phase, since it would basically be a free spin. other than that, archfiends would appreciate the ability to suddenly pandemonium when raigeki'd or use the labyrinth for a sudden +500. then we have Kyoto waterfront, which if my assumption is correct, would start off with a counter if activated by this. and then there's malefics, which always appreciate having more field spell utilities, frogs, which love wetlands shennanigans, and paleozoics, which would give you an instant 2400 beater that's immune to monster effects if you choose wetlands. and the phantasm field spell (pacifis i thin it's called?), which is damn near mandatory for the deck to play properly, and also functions nicely with paleo. lastly, we have synchro field spell, which if i recall correctly, can spin cards if you synchro on your opponent's turn.

plenty more too, but that's all i got for now.

might have to explain that one for those of us who haven't played persona 5

It's the name of the main dungeon in p5, and is insanely plot relevant at later depths. the image is simply referencing p5, which would evoke the memory for those who've finished the game. as a side note, if you ever have the money, definitely give it a shot, great game, worthy successor to the series.
