Come on in to discuss anything related to video games! The club title is Nintendo-themed, but you can discuss anything you'd like, not just Nintendo.
Application's below, it's mostly a formality and you don't have to fill it out, but I'm planning on posting any apps I receive into our Member List so people can get an idea of the club's tastes and preferences.

I didn't even notice that, but you're totally right. If Mushroom Kingdom had more cities, I could see them looking like that.

I think it's just a bunch of Toad villages though.

Come to think of it, out of the "main" Super Mario games, only 64 took place in Peach's Castle. Sunshine, Galaxy 1-2, and Odyssey all took place elsewhere. Kinda neat.

What'd you make of the Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer? (directed at anyone, not just Sonic)

That's cool, Borderlands always seemed like the FPS for me if I played more of those types of games.

I guess I know where you stand on CoD vs Battlefield too, it's been 50/50 whenever I talk to people IRL about it.

I was confused for a second, but then I looked up the Gandhi thing in Civilization and...wow. Was that on purpose? I feel like that's stupidly ingenious, kinda.

Anyone been playing anything lately? I'm working through Paper Mario Color Splash right now and I think I'm gonna tackle Undertale after it. Been curious about that game ever since it came out and I've only heard bad things about some of the fandom rather than the game.

(although what fandom isn't toxic nowadays)

Not in the first game. As I recall, in the first Civilization, there was something you could do in-game to reduce everyone's aggression level by one. Gandhi, already having an aggression of zero, would react interestingly to this happening. Since his zero aggression would go down by one, it would loop around and instead he'd become a hyper-aggressive Indian leader. The devs thought it was hilarious, so Gandhi's been super-aggressive in every game since :)

You know, there's also a question of favorite tracks not covered by the app. Not saying ADD THEM baka (add them baka), but it's interesting to discuss.

Personally... No clue. I have 2 from Undertale, a few from Ace Attorney, Pokemon franchise has a decent amount... Lotsa stuff to pick.

This sounds neat, and I probably need to branch out from RP a bit anyway.

Now that's what I call a happy accident.

I never played Civilization since I'm not so great with those types of games where you're managing resources and overseeing units building/fighting on your behalf. The one game in that genre I seriously played was Warcraft 3, though that was some fun. Taught me about some lore behind WoW and it was the main game everyone at summer camp was playing/working with (I went to this nerdy computer camp in the summer, we messed with games and flash animation).

Welcome to MK!

I feel like I missed out on the Ace Attorney bandwagon. The characters seem fun and I've heard good things about each of the games. If I had to pick one to play to try out, what would you say?

My reasoning was I thought it'd get messy adding too many links in the OP, I vaguely recall that being a problem with Akatsuki at one point. But then again I don't think we'd be dealing with as many members as then, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For the record, this is one of my favorites. Great track to accompany one of the most memorable boss fights of my childhood.

Hey, you seem neat. Welcome!

Ayy Banjo Kazooie, another game I missed out on. But I know Yooka Laylee came out and was supposedly good, so I was thinking of trying that out.

Just pick up the first PHoenix Wright. Kinda needs to be played sequentially at first (PW, Justice for All, Trials and Tribulations), then you can play the 2 Investigations games OR continue with the next trilogy (Appolo Justice, Dual Destinies, Spirit of Justice).

no clue about the classic japanese spinoffs

Only one that breaks the mold, from what I've been told, is Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, which is an easy intro to both series. I need to play it, still...

Also, really don't blame you for not putting it in, but good discussion topic all the same.

I'd click, but watching a playthrough, so gonna wait until I hear it that way.

Hmm, I was always semi-curious about Layton too. If I find it used for a good price, I think I'll pick up that one to get my feet wet with both series.

Some tracks are dope. Xenoblade has had some awesome ones from what I heard, particularly X since my main man Sawano composed the whole thing.

Just listen to the first few and you'll get the idea.

EDIT: Forgot how much I liked these. My favorite is No.EX 01, starts at 10:33.

I'm gonna say this now, I don't play comp on Overwatch. I know it's basically the only thing people play on Overwatch, but I just can't get into it, so I focus mainly on arcade and occasionally quick play. I may play comp on day, for fun, but I doubt I'll stick to it.

Welcome to MK! Member list updated.

Funnily enough, both of your favorite types of games are ones I don't really play. If I ever do play Fire Emblem, I'll probably check out Awakening. From the gameplay I've seen, it seems like the most friendly gateway I can take into tackling that genre.

For puzzles, Black got me thinking about finding the AA/Layton game, but haven't played much otherwise.

Except for Tetris, I was kind of a wiz at it in high school. Despite me not being too into puzzles, I'd venture that Tetris is one of the greatest games ever made.

I'm gonna say this now, I don't play comp on Overwatch. I know it's basically the only thing people play on Overwatch, but I just can't get into it, so I focus mainly on arcade and occasionally quick play. I may play comp on day, for fun, but I doubt I'll stick to it.

I really am interested in Overwatch, but I don't think I'll ever get it. It seems like the real meat of the game is online play and I don't have a stable connection at my new place. That, and I never feel motivated to play online for some reason. I guess I prefer single player experiences or local multiplayer.

What about you guys, do you have a preference?

I honestly really don't like online play in the slightest. Closest thing to that I do is Pokemon Showdown which isn't a video game exactly.

I've found that single player or local multiplayer is something I enjoy a lot more. Unsure why but might be in part because I can be more relaxed about it.

Black covered the main series stuff, but if you're interested in the Layton series too, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright is a great place to get yourself used to both series. It... Takes after the Layton side more than the Wright side, in terms of plot, but the gameplay from both sides is pretty good and you won't get spoiled on major events from either series, the game is entirely stand alone from what I remember!

TBH, check out Sacred Stones instead of Awakening if you want user friendly.

Awakening is flashy as hell, but it's not the golden starting point people make it out to be, and it requires a bit of lore from other games to full enjoy. It can be played standalone, but it does better once you're a bit more established, if only a bit.

Sacred Stones is a total standalone with the best plot, cast, and the easiest gameplay. Even compared to Awakening. It also introduces branching promotions, which Awakening utilizes.

Sacred Stones is also only 20~ chapters long, with optional post game that's a bit more challenging if you think you have the hang of the game.

Again, cast is a s t o u n d i n g.

As for online... I get nervous in settings that aren't automated. I can do Showdown/YGOPro, but I tend to get really nervous on more manual versions, like Duelingbook/DN tend to be.
